I have never posted a review to date but truly felt the need to do so today in defense of a previous post. Certe is truly a rare establishment! The food is carefully purveyed and crafted with full attention to providing high quality ingredients at the best price point possible. Seasonal menus and standard favorites keep the clients coming back for more. Daily meals, special events and lifetime celebrations are all part of what they do, and they do it well. What separates them from other food establishments is the love and care that they put into their service, menu planning, food and basically everything that they do. Quality control and health standards are always at the forefront!!!! I have been fortunate to be eating Certe's delicious food for the last 27 years and I can't think of anywhere else that I would rather order from. As for the owner, there are no words to convey his dedication to his team, his clients and the success of his business. I would challenge any negative comments previously posted. I usually always search on Yelp when I'm hungry and don't know where to eat but I had a promo code for Seamless last night so was on there instead. Ordered a greek salad (and a bagel with cream cheese for the morning to hit their delivery minimum). Why I'm giving 4 stars-- they have the BEST salad dressings ever! They make sure to reinforce on the menu that the dressings are made on premises and you can totally tell. I chose the "Broken Lemon Vinaigrette" for my greek salad and it was incredible. There's nothing worse than ordering a greek salad and getting asked "balsamic or ranch?" -- bleh. But not here! Also must note their high quality ingredients. They didn't deliver me old soggy 'on their last day' greens-- their lettuce was BRIGHT green and crunchy. Feta was nice and creamy (not like what you usually get elsewhere like cheap pre-crumbled feta that's dried out). Everything tasted so high quality & these things matter to me a great deal. Also PROPS to Certe for calling me to tell me they were out of olives for my salad. They added extra vegetables to make up for the lack of an ingredient. Very good customer service! I feel like other restaurants would just leave the olives out, hide and not say anything. A little confused why Certe is just listed as Caterers on Yelp though. You can certainly order 1 meal for delivery just like I did! Because of this- I've never considered ordering from them before because I was never looking for a caterer so had no clue they even existed. I've read about cette since the early 2000's on a website called Midtown Lunch (which seems to sadly be dormant now). It was always ranked as one of the best spots in Midtown to grab a sandwich. Now, I'd been to their spin-off Pizza By Certe many times - and it was fantastic - so I figured Certe would be great as well. But somehow I never made it until now. Incidentally, due to COVID they closed Pizza By Certe and they now have all the Pizza items in this Certe. I got the cheesesteak. I mean, I'm a huge Philly cheesesteak fan but I knew this would be its own unique creation when j read they use a gooey cheese blend (3 cheese? 5? I forget but it was definitely more than one!). Do not pass by this hole in the wall! Ordering was kind of a nightmare because I have anxiety issues, but that's not on them. It was totally worth it, though, because it was literally the best pizza I've ever had in my life! It is kind of hard to actually eat in the restaurant because, as adorable as the place is, there is no space. The 10 inch was just perfect for two people. The New Yawker looks so simple, but the cheese and sauce are so delicious and flavorful. Everything tasted homemade. I've always come to Certé for their breakfast sandwiches, but this review is focused on their pizza to go. I was looking to switch up my lunch spots and saw good things about the pizza here and I was not disappointed. I ordered the 7" Italian Wedding Pizza for $6.75 and it was so worth it. It was nice and warm still by time I got back to my desk. The pizza had a nice thinner crust, hearty portions of the broken house ground meatballs, spinach, and cheese and red pepper flakes that gave a nice kick. The size was just right for a tasty but not food coma inducing work lunch. Looking forward to coming back again for lunch. Although they're usually pretty busy with catering and online orders, the workers here are all hard at work getting everyone's food prepared. We ordered from seamless and the food was very mediocre. Most of it was tasteless and bland ex. the acai bowl (which came in a tiny cup), asparagus and leek soup and egg sandwich. Worst of all, the 7 grain bread which I requested for the egg sandwich was completely burnt (see attached pics) but they chose to invert the slices thinking I wouldn't notice?! Besides the burnt bread I also expected more from this sandwich since it was one of the popular items listed on seamless. The "freshly" sliced turkey I requested was completely dry and flavorless. Small place and easy to miss, but we decided to check it out. The worker was super friendly and helpful, and he even recommended a place for us to pick up some beer nearby. The deal was any 2 slices for $6, so we each got a couple. I got a caramelized onion slice and a spinach slice, and made conversation with the worker while our food was being heated up. It was a new york style thin crust, but I really liked how the dough felt like real pizza crust and not like a cheap quality 99 cent crust. The flavor of the pizza was pretty typical for a NYC slice, but the quality of the crust made it a 4/5. I was particularly a fan of the caramelized onion slice. Seating was pretty limited, but we were some of the only customers there, so it wasn't an issue. Overall, I would recommend this place if you're in the area and craving a slice that's superior than your dollar slice, but don't go traveling to check this place out. read more

So disappointing. I ordered delicious food a few times a week from this place when they were on the east side, so close to my apartment. Always so good. When they moved many of the recipes changed, nothing seemed as fresh or tasty. Finally I gave up on them as so many years of being a raving fan. Tonight after a long hiatus I was craving their chicken Milanese, my long time favorite so I decided to give them another chance. They are not on most delivery apps so I ordered through their website. I know they received the order because they called me to say they needed to make a substitution which I agreed to. Well they have now been closed for over an hour so I can't contact them but my food is not here and I also cannot track it through their website like a normal delivery app. I'm 100% done. I am blown away by this place. When given the task of hosting a holiday party for my medium sized start up on a minimal budget I found this place. I was somewhat skeptical because it was cheap, very cheap. Since it was one of the only options I had I decided to go for it. I ordered via seamless and could not have been more pleased. Not only was the food delicious but also beautifully presented. They provided plates, napkins and utensils. They also provided trays, stands and heating oil for our hot entrees. Complete Redemption. After writing up a disappointing customer experience the first time out to Certe (with Groupon in hand), I was promptly contacted by PJ, the manager. She was shocked at my account, apologized for any ill-treatment, advised me that they had made some recent personnel changes, and invited me back in to further discuss and address the situation. Despite being near closing when I arrived, PJ had no problem waiting for me to show up (hit some traffic/rush hour commuters). She was super nice, explained Certe's business and their utmost commitment to customer service (as evidenced by the prompt response to my review and everything that followed). I also met Carlos, the counter manager, who was also really nice and helpful. Together, we debated what I should get this time around - tough choices with so many great options (again, the issue last time was not the food - the Chubby Chinese Girl sandwich was actually really good!). This time I settled on the Torta, the Valrhona Brownie, and the Tiramisu: The Torta - Grass-Fed Sirloin * Queso Fresca * Avocado * Black Bean Puree' * Tomato * Jalapeño * soft Roll - SO GOOD. Just tons of flavor, and the sirloin was super tender and well-seasoned/marinated. Thank goodness I took Carlos' advice and stuck with the Portuguese roll, it held up perfectly to the hefty sandwich ingredients! Valrhona Brownie with nuts - Certe uses specialty imported chocolate for this treat, and man does it make a difference! Super dense-fudgey goodness! Wow. Just really delightful. Tiramisu - the tiramisu is made at Certe's nearby pizza shop (Pizza by Certe). It's light, moist, and has a really nice, strong coffee punch. Diet Raspberry Snapple - just tasty and satisfying as the day Wendy the Snapple Lady graced our TV screens. After an unfortunate first experience, PJ/Carlos/Certe has won my patronage back and then some. It's inspiring to see a business that cares when things don't go exactly right and takes prompt action to make it right. In my case, they did far more than just make it right. I love this place! their old location on 56th and Lexington isn't open anymore but now they're on 55th and 5th which isn't far away. Their pizza is super delicious. Their combinations of all their pizzas are creative and yummy. I personally love their shroom and Italian wedding ones. I always get their spaghetti and rice balls as appetizers and they're always good. Their pasta dishes are also great quality and fresh. If you're into the health stuff, don't get this. Seriously, very greasy. But if you're okay with a little oil and you're in the mood for buffalo chicken, do it! The sandwich was $8 and I also got a banana-walnut loaf, which was like eating a whole bag of sugar. The people that work here were so kind and of all the places I've had lunch, they have got to have the best packaging; the sandwich was placed in a plastic container and in a nice, small shopping bag--not like the other places where they shove your food in a paper bag and it falls out from the steam! I actually really liked the sandwich because it was cheesy and fresh but the chicken was a bit dry and there actually wasn't any lettuce as pictured on their site. They overput the pesto sauce, which doesn't really have a taste. I think it would've been a lot better if the sandwich was eaten cold because the steam made it almost inedible.
