I'm afraid I'm a little behind in posting my review of Certa Pro Painters of Thousand Oaks, so my apologies here! I had my one story home's exterior painted by Certa Pro Painters in October of 2021. They did an amazing job and I'm so glad I hired them. Almost one year later and my home looks wonderful. I called and made an appointment for an estimate. Crystal showed up on time and she answered all of the questions that I had at the time about work to be done including what paint was to be used and what the process would be. I had my estimate/contract emailed to me the next day. In addition to the painting, the estimate also included refinishing the outside of my front door which was a solid oak door with glass panels that had some worn wood areas. This was to be lightly sanded/prepped, stained and sealed. The price was very fair for the job to be done. I had asked around for referrals amongst people who'd had painting done and Certa Pro got great reviews by the way. I hired them and signed the contract and got my job scheduled about 3-4 weeks out, which was just fine On start day, Efrain and his crew of two additional guys came to my home on time every day and they checked in with me about what the plan for the day was and they worked a full day too. The first day was prep day. They thoroughly pressure washed the house and then taped/covered with plastic all windows and doors. They also prepped the stucco and repaired some cracks, etc as well as very minor wood repairs. It was so neat and no mess left behind. The next day painting started while my front door was sanded and prepped and painting continued. I'll just say this, all that painting and seriously, my property was left neat and clean each day. The stucco, gutters and wood areas were thoroughly covered with paint. I had some new wood previously installed by a contractor that I didn't get primed but should have. it cost me extra for Certa Pro to do that, but that's on the contract that any new wood should be primed and ready to be painted or it would be additional cost. (my bad, but oh well.) They primed it and all was good. By the way, my door looked amazing after it was stained and sealed, like a new door. There was one area of concern that I had questions about and it was taken care of right away. Owner Leonard Martinez came out and looked at it and this area looked great after a little additional attention. A little communication goes a long way. He wanted to be sure I was happy with the finished job, and I am. So, a great company that cares about a quality job being done and also addressees any questions that come up. I'll add the team of painters were super friendly and professional. I would recommend this company to anyone and look forward to hiring them again. I'll also add one more thing, I had a huge area of wood rot at the front which needed replacement. I hired a contractor that they had referred to many of their customers and he did an amazing job there. A couple of painting companies told me they would use Bondo or similar filler and paint over this area, Certa Pro said that it looked rotted through and that painting over it was a no no and they were right. I had a small job and called Leonard, the owner of the franchise. He told me the job was a little too small for him to do, but he would check with some of his workers to see if they wanted some extra work. Leonard called me back quite promptly and gave me the name of one of his guys. Enrique came over and did a perfect job. He took his time in correctly prepping the facia board and put on the primer and paint. It looks like new! He also did the trim of the molding around the garage door exterior. The cleanup of the area was impeccable and I would use him again in a heartbeat. If I had a bigger job, I would have no hesitation in calling Leonard for his services. read more

I got 5-6 bids to paint our large two story home. Crystal from Certa Pro came out and spent more time than the other bidders combined. She took multiple pictures, made many notes and asked lots of questions about what we expected. She was able to provide a quote on he spot. Their bid was in the middle - not lowest, not highest. We went with them and am happy we did. David and Wilbur were a very good team. They went out of their way to try and patch some cracks, even going so far as to re-do some portions that didn't look quite right after the first attempt. We are very happy with the work and the follow up from Leonard & Crystal. Very professional and courteous. read more

This is the second time this review has been posted. My daughter had posted one on my behalf because we are elderly and not great with technology. Not wanting an honest review that made them look bad Leonard complained to Yelp that it wasn't a "first-hand" review and had it removed. Based on how terrible our experience was I wondered if all the 5-star reviews were fake - now we know how they prevent the negative ones...As this is now my account and I am the direct customer - Leonard will not be able to have this review removed. I am a firm believer that people should have all the info when making a decision about a business (especially something expensive like painting). Maybe your experience will be like the 5-star reviews here, and maybe it will be like ours. Leonard makes a good sales pitch and wrote in many contracted promises including to protect all the plants around home, to appropriately clean up before and after painting (remove as much debris as possible, dig a trench to paint the base of the house, to sweep and vacuuming paint chips), he said they would stucco patch and blend by feathering in patch to existing stucco. He said they do things right the first time, respect your property and home and provide you with a professional high quality paint job that will protect home for years to come. Instead six men showed up on the first day without Leonard or any guidance, in fact, they asked us to see the contract because they didn't actually know what they were there to do. With poor prep and no stucco repair as promised they rapidly started painting. New windows and brick were not covered before they started painting, I complained and only then did they cover them (partially). Painters were painting at ground level until we complained to Leonard and to crew and only then did they dig a trench the second day (after half the painting was done). My plants were covered in drips and roller spray. I went out many times to ask them to please move the tarp as they were painting. They just didn't do it. We called Leonard who claimed he would talk to them. There was no clean up, they just pushed the dirt down and debris with their foot - Leonard claimed he would talk to them (all by phone, he was never actually there to supervise). Instead of taking the time to properly prep we now have new vinyl windows painted on both sides when I was promised they would be totally covered and protected. When we complained Leonard claimed the painters were just trying to paint the caulking around window. There is no reason to paint the caulking and if taped off properly caulk would have been covered and would remain white...like the window. The only stucco repair done was where it had fallen off on north side. There is a 3 inch hole in the stucco by eaves, and it was not touched until I complained and then was partially filled with caulk just before they left on final day (without painting it). Leonard and I had agreed on an inspection and final payment the following Monday. Instead, he showed up unannounced the day after painters finished. During the inspection I pointed out several concerns (the painted windows, the unrepaired, unpainted stucco, the painted plants), and all he did was make excuses. He offered no remedy and claimed the hole couldn't be repaired with stucco patch. I requested that hole be stucco repaired and repainted. Leonard complained that a painter would have to come out for 2 days, first to repair and then to paint, and that this would disrupt their schedule. He then stated we should "just repair and repaint it yourselves." This company has extremely poor customer service. None of the contracted promises would have been kept if I had not continually monitored their work and complained. I've never had a contractor just tell me to do something myself when I had paid them to do it. Given the quality of their work I suspect the paint job will not last nearly as long as it should. I wish I had gone with a different company. I would strongly recommend you look elsewhere for a paint job - this company will not stand by their work or agreements. At this point, despite the money spent we will just make the final repairs and touch ups ourselves, we frankly don't want this company anywhere near our home anymore. read more

Leonard's attentive and polite crew were so receptive to our suggestions and constantly wanted feedback as to which areas to touch-up. The best review you can give a company is when you invite them back to do another job....especially when it's a pure service business like painting. Leonard and his guys did a wonderful job painting our exterior last year, so it was a no brainer to have them back to do the inside of our house this year. We did insist that Alex and Francisco come back to do our interiors as we have come to know them and trust them. We were NOT disappointed. They were courteous and professional every step of the way. Alex continually asked us questions to make sure there were no misunderstandings and when we asked to do a touch up here and there....it was always done with a smile and no questions asked. You might find a painter that is a little cheaper by a few $, but I have learned that is a foolish decision just to go by price. We were disappointed in the finished product of our interior painting. We were promised 2 coats everywhere per contract, and that did not happen. We had to explain to the painters and the owner of the dissatisfaction of the built in wall cabinets and kitchen cabinets. They did not want to prep or cover anything properly. The painters were not professional in covering items and taping them off. When they used the fan, they made a dusty mess. We are disappointed in the painting and the care of our items in the home, including our new counter top. One painter climbed on without covering with his boots, leaving scratches on that we can't get out! POOR service and no professionalism! Would not recommend them! read more
