This company is the worst!! So I don't even know where to start with this company. Don't believe what they advertise for one second. It's all bullshit. Apparently if you have a dirty chimney it's an extra $200 dollars. What chimney isn't dirty!! So because they had to break out the drill and power clean it which by the way took them 10min to do was an extra $200 dollars. That's after they tried to upsell me a new liner, chimney cap, and flashing for another $2,000 dollars. When I said I can't afford it he refused to do the cleaning until he spoke to his imaginary boss. Which was approved but for another $200 dollars! In total my 10 min cleaning was $300. My experience with Certified Chimney Service was unfortunate. I needed my chimney cleaned and couldn't decide who to call, so I tried them with a groupon. The first red flag should have been that the cleaning itself was only $35 cash. Things went downhill from there. I believed the technician when he told me my chimney needed extensive repair And a stainless liner for the inside of the chimney. I allowed myself to be pressured into agreeing to this and the tech couldn't get it done fast enough. I told him I would Not be available until after 1:00 the next day And Do Not Do Anything Unless I Am There. He said That's ok, we will get there early Just To Set Up. When I arrived, I was told they were done, even though they had to hook up something inside the fireplace inside the house. I needed to have the contract re-written BEFORE anything was done, because most of the things the tech told me he would do were not in the contract that I looked over the night before. I had assumed that he was writing Exactly what he was telling me. The tech accused me of "setting him up", got angry, ripped the stainless steel liner out and left in a huff AFTER doing extensive Damage to my chimney! I called in another company. I was told that the work I needed would have cost about $350, but to fix the damage caused by Certified Chimney, it would cost $1500-$1800. That tech advised me to call in other companies for other opinions and estimates And to call the company that did the damage, Certified Chimney, and tell them that They should pay to repair the damage they caused. I was also told that to have a stainless steel liner installed inside my chimney was a Fire Hazard! I had 2 more companies tell me the same thing. It ended up costing me $1600 to have my chimney repaired. Certified Chimney Service has complaints on file with the Department of Consumer Affairs (the agency that monitors trade licenses). Bottom Line: A reputable company will be upfront and truthful with whatever assessment they make. They will not treat your property carelessly, change the information they provided to you, or try to sell you something you don't need. Certified Chimney Service did all of the above. I have since filed a complaint against this company. Their reply was to deny everything in my complaint and Refuse to be ACCOUNTABLE for the damage they caused. They goodness they didn't leave that Fire Hazard stainless liner in the chimney. My house could have burned down by now! read more

Absolutely terrible!! I called and scheduled an appointment that was then rescheduled 3 times! When they finally kept the appointment, I was told they would arrive between 12-3. As I sat and waited all day, the office called me and told me the technician was delayed but would get to me. I continued to wait (for over 5 hours!) to only receive a call 3 minutes before 6 that he's not coming at all. I try to call the office to reschedule and they are closed for the weekend at 6! The worst part is I called and followed up and was told that he would be able to come to our home even in the dark and would get to us today. We really needed this cleaning and inspection since we just moved into this home and it's so cold and drafty which isn't good with a newborn baby. But since they gave us the run around we are stuck with a cold home for the weekend and even longer as I now have to find a new company to service our chimney. This company does NOT care about its customers and gives you the run around! Do NOT use this company!!! read more

Called for a chimney/fireplace inspect/cleaning. They scheduled appointment for 10 days later. Said they will call day prior. No call so I call them and confirm between 8am-11am. Guy shows within that time and immediately says roof is too high. He cant do this alone. What? Tells me they will call and reschedule. They call and reschedule for 7 days later. 11am-2pm. They call the night prior to confirm date/time. Next day 220pm no one shows. I call them and was told crew is in Sag Harbor and ran into a problem. That's over an hour away with no traffic. Tell them to cancel and the response was "ok". If they can't send the right people and then fail to keep an appointment or even call to tell me there's a problem, I'm glad I didn't use them. During a recent storm our chimney cap was torn off and landed, badly damaged, in our yard. By luck, we had a flyer including Certified Chimney that we'd set aside for needed work on the chimney (new liner, some brickwork, etc.). I called an made an appointment for a chimney cap replacement two days out. I was called the evening before to confirm the appointment and arrival time (8a - 10a). The team arrived at 8a sharp, promptly set to work, and completed a relining, brickwork, and new cap work in two hours including time to pick up cement and a new cap. I could not be more impressed with the professionalism and work quality of the team, and the overall interaction with the company. Everyone was super-pleasant, and the work could not have gone smoother. Very highly recommended based on my experience. read more

Never have I ever dealt with a more inept company. I cannot comment on the quality of their work because it is apparently impossible to actually get them to come and do the work. I originally had an appointment for October 9th, they arrive an hour late and then tell me they do not have the right ladder to do the job. Frustrating but we reschedule for Monday the 14th. On Monday they cancel an hour after my time window, as they were "held up" on another job. They reschedule again for Thursday and then subsequently cancel. I am again rescheduled for the 23rd, they again call to cancel, citing they were "held up" again after I sat home waiting for 3 hours. At this point I should have walked away but Jeanette assures me they can do the job Saturday morning I will be the first appointment. They call to confirm Friday and again tell me my window is between 8-10. I again move all the furniture in my living room to make sure they can easily get to my fireplace..... 10am passes, 11am passes...12pm not even a phone call. Stood up again. I call Jeanette and get her voicemail. Finally at 3pm she calls back (see picture of transcript) and tell me she doesn't even know where her driver is! At this point as a potential new customer I am DONE. I finally speak to Jeanette and she tells me I was moved to a later appointment because of an "emergency" someone was without heat on a beautiful 64 degree day? So instead of doing my job first and then going to the heat emergency, I again get stood up. Now Jeanette tells me her tech is 45 minutes away do I want him to come at 4:45p!!!! She then tells me that her driver "Sean" tried calling me and my voicemail was full, however she had no problem calling and leaving me a voicemail??? I'm pretty sure "Sean" never called. But by all means lie to your customers. I had to decline the 4:45pm time as I had a family event and I was no longer home. Jeanette then tells me her tech will come Sunday and "Sean" will call me after we hang up. It's been exactly 16 hours and no word from Sean. I can see that this company does not care at all about its customers and that Jeanette the owner is incapable of doing the right thing for people and she and her company need some serious training in how to schedule appointments and customer service. Best of luck if you choose to use them. I was nothing but accommodating and understand in rescheduling multiple times however this is insane. My first phone call Monday morning will be to the Better Business Bureau for false advertisement of services. read more

DO NOT hire this company. First they had to reschedule the appointment after a no show (without any call nor update). Then they finally came, didn't cover at all the fireplace while performing a cleaning that ended up with a malfunctioning vacuum spreading all the dust into the room. After some discussions, they sent a team of professional cleaners and it requires 2 days to clear the rooms affected. After that, despite the fact that they had broken our old damper as they were supposed to install a new one, they never came back to fix or finish the work and treated us like s... when we insisted! Ugh, I'm so angry-- I scheduled this company to come inspect my chimney over a week ago. I had to have a family member wait for them at my house. I had the window of 12-3pm. At 2:30, I got a call that no one was coming because the technician ran late. They told me I could reschedule, but I was not wasting more time with them. Don't waste your time. This company is certainly the worst I have ever delt with. READ THE BELOW STORY AND RUN FAR AWAY - they are unprofessional, rude, and liars too. We contacted them back in 2018 when we bought our house. Rob came with one of his colleage, obviously they were not very "clean" , but they lied to us on everything. They gave us an estimation of $4'000 to put the chimney liner and connect the wall to the stove. They took 2 cheques that day. One for $3'000 and one for $1'000 and Rob wrote on the contract that since we have spent over $3'000, we will have free cleaning services for life. This is the reason why we chose to say yes to their estimate and services. A piece was missing, an 8 inch cap that he said he will order and will come back to fix. He never showed up after 3 or 4 calls. 2 years later, I needed to clean my chimney and call the company back since they offered us free cleaning in writing on our contract. After 4 attempts, they finally came this afternoon. While the 2 gentlemens finished the vacuuming of our stove, the one responsible showed me an invoice for $149 for the cleaning of the stove. I immediately showed him the contract signed by Rob with his writing saying: "Annually cleans for free". He said "that's the reason why Rob is no longer working with us". I refused to pay and received a call from Jeanette. Not only she said she told me on the phone that the service would cost $149 and obviously she never told me this otherwise I would have say something about the contract, but she also said that I could have written "Annually cleans for free" myself. She lied to me and then insulted me by saying I could have written this myself. I HAVE NEVER EVER SEEN SUCH A RIDICULOUS COMPANY - also, they tell you a timeframe, but it will NEVER BE RESPECTED. Phenomenal. Called them because my plumber said we needed to get the chimney certified before he turned our furnace on (gas had been off because of department of buildings classification issue while renovating). He said it quite casually, because he had found a dead bird ....but it was WAY MORE COMPLICATED THAN THAT.....as I was soon to discover. Called Certified Chimney, they had some one in the city the next day and would squeeze us in. They were a little late but called to tell me they were behind schedule (most technicians run late between traffic and unexpected drama on their calls, so no surprise, everybody needs to stop judging workmen on this droll issue) Tall skinny guy arrives at the door, Al, looks like a chimney sweep from central casting, listens to my explanation and sends his helper down to the boiler room and he zooms off to the roof. Cleaning the chimney, no problem .....BUT THERE IS A MUCH LARGER ISSUE. Chimney liner is old, aluminum ( should be stainless steel) and worse news yet, does not reach completely to my roof, but terminates about 50percent up on the top floor. VERY BAD NEWS. Basically carbon monoxide could be coming through my old brick chimney because it's unlined and eventually seeping into my bedroom (which is the room on the top floor). Obviously, all my alarm bells go off. I am sure this guy must be exaggerating the problem to quote me a huge chunk of change. He writes up the quote, its for a full days work, it will be a gargantuan job and it's going to cost $7500 ! I am sure I am being taken for a fool. I thank him, say goodbye and promptly phone two more companies to survey the chimney and quote. Two companies take over a week to individually get over here and quote. Both totally agree with Certified Chimney's assessment of the terrible state of the chimney - but say it will take ALMOST A WEEK OR MORE to fix and cost almost double the quote. Oh, and they want to punch like 5 holes in my outside chimney wall. Um no. Back to Certified Chimney, have the Architect phone them to run through the plan. He speaks with the skinny guy, is very impressed with his technical knowledge and approves them to work. I convince husband to cough up small fortune of money on day 700 of renovation, when really this should of happened on day 100 when we put the second boiler in and the idiot plumber should of checked we had adequate drafting capacity ...but obviously didn't. Guys arrive on designated day ( again a bit late but with phone call and text from office to keep me informed) Everything is re- explained to me. Protocols for working in the house are established (what should be covered, doors that need to be kept closed etc) Guys go to it. Work all day relentlessly. Have to chop out old tile and concrete in 50 foot chimney, working in boiler room that is tiny and cramped. Everyone is courteous and polite. Al and his crew are very emotionally supportive and considerate of all my drama because I am a nervous wreck that this messy job is being done in a newly renovated house. Job takes ALL DAY AND INTO THE NIGHT. They do eventually have to make a very small hole on chimney breast of outside wall. They measure and calculate 4 times so as to get the hole in the right place and not destroy too many bricks because I am less than happy about this development. They make tiniest hole possible and haul out chunks of debris painstakingly. They pull new shiny 50 foot liner down, brick up hole (brickwork not great, but hey it was very late and pretty dark at this point). Test drafting. Clean up. It's almost 9pm, they have been here ALL DAY. Boiler room is a bit wrecked with dust and will need a deep clean, but hey, this is why this job should of been done during construction....GC will have to deal with this because his plumber dropped the ball. Relatively speaking, worksite is left as good as can be expected considering what just transpired. They were the nicest politest, most hard working, fantastic bunch of guys who put there all onto it. I was beyond impressed. Most importantly, they got the job done in one day, not one week like everyone else said, and cost almost a third less than the price of the next quote. Added to which, when I mentioned I needed a chimney affidavit to them on their way out the door, I got a phone call 10 minutes later from their boss, who took my email and sent me the affidavit the very next morning. What was a very expensive and frustrating unexpected development was made much more reasonable by their excellent service, I am very happy to have made their acquaintance and highly recommend them. read more

I recently had water damage leaking from my chimney cap and pan. I made the call to Certified Chimney. The next day they came out to Orient Point to take a look. They cleaned the pipes, measured for a new cap and told me it would be custom made and ready for install in three days. True to their word, three days later Dillon and his partner installed a well designed, heavy duty galvanized product that will stand the brutal wind and rain Orient has to offer. Horrible experience from beginning to end. Left materials (and lunch garbage) in front of my house for a month, didnt come back when they said, fired the guy who said that. Messy stucco work, came back to rectify, didnt rectify, said it looked fine (because smoothing it out would look like two different colors - how is this my fault?), would put flashing to make it look better, made it look much worse. Fixed a leak that happened after the work, claimed the 20 minute job would normally cost $1200 (I'm not that dumb dude, just didn't feel like arguing with you). Said i had a larger balance, i produced the paperwork, and then the $300 he was going to deduct for my trouble became only $100, because of the free and expensive tarring that he claimed would cost $1200. Not in the mood to argue, but I shouldn't have to after the ridiculously simple, $2800 2 day job became a month's aggravation and something that i have to redo at my own expense. If he (the owner mind you) wasn't so stubborn and greedy when he showed up I never would have written this review. If he wasn't going to redo the shoddy job, I should have received a bigger discount, and the one thing I did not - AN APOLOGY. read more

My oil company advised me to get a liner for a very old chimney as it was in danger of becoming blocked and could lead to a carbon monoxide situation. Stained stair carpeting ( needs to be replaced ) left soot all over floor by boiler , soot was all over washer and dryer ( no one taught them to clean up ? ) and best for last - left shit floating in downstairs toilet. For the past two years the service guy that came home told me my chimney was a wreck, we needed a new one etc. etc. He set me in a panic and recommended someone who I called the first year and they were awful. Tried to scare me into getting repairs done and were quite rude when I said I wanted more estimates from other companies. This year, I decided to take matters into my own hands and I looked on Angie's list and found Certified Chimney. From start to finish this company was informative and comforting (yes comforting, home repair sometimes is nerve wrecking.) Charles and his son Dylan showed up to my home, greeted me with a smile, hand shake and a business card. Charles inspected my liner and told me that my chimney was perfect !!! Can we talk about an honest guy???!!! He could have lied to me, took my money and STILL got a good review. But he was honest. Told me we didn't need any work at all. I would recommend them to anyone who needed help with their chimneys. Chimney companies have a bad rap and it's nice to find a diamond in the rough.
