Great selection of cheeses. Helpful is choosing the right cheese for the occasion, for a relative novice. Friendly and inviting.

This place is absurdly consistent. The portions are always generous, the quality is never caught lacking, and the dining room is spotless in that reassuring someone actually cares way. The staff (and it's always the same people that are there, which is cool in itself that there's no noticeable turnover in the staff) is friendly without being fake about it... efficient, pleasant, and clearly proud of what they're serving from fryers behind the soda fountains. Let's talk food, because wow. That's why you're reading this. The fried shrimp are so good that my wife (who does not like seafood) actively loves them. That alone should be printed on the menu. I've only known her to eat fried shrimp when the breading weighs more than the shrimp itself (which is not the case here). The tartar sauce is the best in North America. It's my crack. If I drank it through a straw (a bit too thick), that straw would be called a crack pipe. I literally smile writing about this tartar sauce. I will not be taking questions at this time. The "regular" fries are exactly what fries should be: crisp, fluffy, salty perfection. And the onion rings? Peak "fried seafood place" onion rings... golden, crunchy, and unapologetically doing their job, not tempura style, but old school Weathervane "fried seafood style" onion rings that you can sub in instead of fries on plates/boats for a small upcharge. Even the bathrooms are clean, which sounds like a throwaway detail until you realize how rare that is and how much it says about the place. We love it so much that we'll happily drive 40 minutes each way to eat there - in winter - because that's what you do when a place never lets you down. And despite the sign saying Al's Seafood, we tell everyone it's called "Big Al's Seafood" Not because that's the name, but because that's the energy this place has... It's not trendy. It's not trying to reinvent anything. It's just awesome, every single time and honestly, that's harder to pull off than any gimmick. Signing off... keep it up, Big Al.

You sit down and wait for your number to be called and the waiter brings your food over to you. The food was delicious. The service was good. The prices were very reasonable. We arrived today (5/24/2026) at 4:30 pm. No other customers were there. Upon entering, 4 teens seemed rather annoyed we walked in. We tried to be friendly, and mentioned we go there often for years. No response. Our order was wrong at first so took a minute to make sure it was right. Lobster roll was $30 now so we only got one. One very small cup of chowder, one small montauk and 2 sodas for $60. Staff was not friendly. That was not the reason for our final visit though. This is the third time in a row (twice from LAST YEAR that the lobster tasted so badly like chemicals that we were both spitting it out. No taste at all, just a chemical taste. To make this worse, one bite had a piece of shell I gave a pass to and spit it out, but the second bite had a large and hard piece of shell that dug into the gum on the side of my tooth. We are done. We know the owner, Sylvia, from our visits so this is unfortunate, but teens with attitudes making us uncomfortable, food that is flavorless with this many shells, and higher prices than we care to pay for these experiences has ended our trips to a place we used to love to go. Parking has been taken away unless you pay too. Just not worth all this hassle any longer.
