recently visited Reservation at CHOUX GRAS BRASSERIE CULINAIRE in The Fairmont hotel in Mount Tremblant hoping to enjoy a delightful meal. Unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant. I ordered the duck entree, but to my dismay, it was served to me cold. When I brought it to the server's attention, they took it back to the kitchen and reheated it in the microwave. The dish was returned to me, but the reheating process had ruined the texture and taste of the duck. It was dry, chewy, and lacked the flavors that I was expecting. It was clear that the kitchen had simply cut corners by using a microwave instead of cooking the dish properly. I was disappointed not only by the quality of the food, but also by the lack of attention and care from the restaurant's staff. They did not seem to take my complaint seriously as the waiter seemed to be smirking or giving Me a pan am smile like I was wrong or a difficult customer. Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant based on my experience. Serving cold food and microwaving it to compensate is simply unacceptable. I hope that the restaurant takes steps to improve its food quality and service in the future. I did appreciate the complimentary next dish and no charge for the duck. read more

Horrible service, one waiter for the whole restaurant on a Sunday night, be aware you have to pour your own wine! what a joke! the waiter even told us: " sorry usually I'm alone on Sundays and I usually have 2-3 tables ". Spent 500$ ordered a a bottle of wine and had to serve my wife and I. Same thing for two other tables beside us. Not to mention the bottle of wine we ordered at the liquor store is 16.00$ cad they sold it to us at 86.00$ cad which is seriously unreasonable a little bit of service with it may of compensated for the 300% + price exargeration! unfortunately that wasn't even possible! Aswell as our meal we had a seafood tower that was prepared 4hrs before being served to us! This is very alarming! I came here to celebrate my parents' 20th anniversary. Wasn't too impressed. Pretty average food, especially considering the price. It is only expensive because it is located in Fairmont hotel. The view is alright and service is average as well. I ordered the bream fillet with mushrooms, mashed potatoes and meat juice; cabbage soup with bacon crumble and hazelnuts; tarte tatin with green apple sorbet. Do not order the cabbage soup, it tastes oddly sour. The tarte tatin was pretty good though. My experience wasn't terrible but there are plenty of restaurants in Tremblant with better food and views for a lower price. read more

The menu is focused and limited. We tried 2 of the appetizers. The Perfect Egg, a single sour vide egg served over a modest mix of warm veg seems like an interesting choice. But the centerpiece egg fell short. It was overdone. But, after that the direction of the meal changed for the better. The foie gras was traditional and nicely accompanied. The duck was done perfectly. The side of mushrooms was diverse and tasty. The drink menu is worth a look. We have eaten here twice during this trip and the service was on point each time. The room has varied choices of seating. By the window overlooks the top of the village. I preferred it to the cozy booths. But each has it's charm. read more

Shocked by the low reviews here - it wasn't cheap but I didn't walk in expecting it to be. Other than that, our experience was flawless. We started out with a salad and the incredible bread. Sad to choose between the two, but we were pleased with the blue cheese/bacon option. The wine list had plenty of options to please us, so we were pleased. We went with the large format lamb for our main course. Our friendly waiter warned us away from some of the other options, as we were a group of two and he suggested they'd be far too much food for us. The winter gratin was unreal. read more

If I had to review this restaurant exclusively by Mont Tremblant standards, it would easily get a 4 or 5 star rating on any given night. That said, I live in Montreal and will base my rating on the same criteria I always apply. This is based on 2 separate dinners eaten over a 4 day period. They are going for a french brasserie vibe here. I'm entirely certain that this is not an example of a brasserie. I would call this decent hotel food with some standouts on the menu. This could never be qualified as destination dining. You would never go out of your way to come here. If they tried opening this in Montreal, it might stay open for a year. It is not bad per se, but Choux Gras does not compare with Lemeac, L'express, or even L'Entrecote St Jean. Their website claims they are offering a Montreal brasserie experience. You go here because most restaurants in the Tremblant village excel in pronounced mediocrity and you get tired of nachos and burgers. For 6 dollars, you can order a mini loaf of olive or rosemary bread. While it tasted good, it was small and overpriced. A french brasserie should serve complimentary fresh crusty baguette before you even have the menu in your hands. On the appetizer side, we sampled a french brasserie classic (read in sarcasm here) buffalo mozzarella which for 24$, could have included a larger portion with more toasted bread. This is predictable hotel fare; overpriced and generic. It will certainly do the trick if you are hungry and dining with good company. I tried the Foie gras au torchon which was standard but again served with 2 microscopic toasted bread fingers. On the second night, I tried the onion soup which supposedly was made with Oka cheese. You would have to search far and wide to find a french onion soup with less melted cheese anywhere in North America. In terms of the broth, it can be described as more of a thick onion pudding rather than a soup which implies a liquid. This dish is a fail all around. I've had french onion soup. This was not it. On the first night the cream and saffron mussels were delicious. Prepared with tiny bits of spicy chorizo, this was an excellent dish. The accompanying fries were boring salty breaded hotel fries. French fries are an art when done properly. I invite the Fairmont to try the fries at Lemeac in Montreal and then work backwards from that. Alternatively, change the description in your website comparing this restaurant to Montreal bistros and brasseries. The duck magret I had on the second night was tasty, but should have included a side instead of a simple corn and peach garnish. I would also prefer a whole piece of duck rather than weird sliced strips of duck. People at my table shared the rack of lamb sharing plate which they said was delicious. On both nights, appetizers came out of the kitchen quickly, while main courses took at least 45 additional minutes. The prices are high and I suppose in line with what Fairmont hotel restaurants charge. If you order carefully, you can still get a nice standard hotel meal to complement your Mont Tremblant stay. In the end it served its purpose. read more

We came here as a group of 20 for my father's anniversary on Saturday, November 13th, 2021. Our experience was very disappointing as the service was very sub par. We felt rushed and pressured to leave quickly. They served the subsequent appetizers and main dishes very quickly, not letting us time to enjoy the food and the atmosphere. They also rushed to clear the table which made us feel even less welcomed. For the hefty price we paid, we expect much better service... We found it very odd that this would happen at an hotel such as the Fairmount. read more

Wonderful place and nice restaurant. We came as a couple of 8 for a business dinner. It is unfortunate that when ordering a filet mignon emphasizing on "medium rare" it was served well done. Nevertheless, this can happen. at the end it is only about the way the restaurant treats such a situation. And I think the restaurant handled it very poorly. The negative rating expresses my disappointment. I didn't want the filet half price well done (well, everything else served was full price anyways). In fact, I really don't like "well done" in general. I'd expected to pay full price and get a new plate "medium rare". That's just not the right way to handle it in such a restaurant. No. Just NO. My fiance and I went for a quick getaway to Tremblant, and decided to try Choux Gras for her birthday. $400 later, a better choice would have been a take-out pizza and a hooker. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation, and were seated in a small table beside other diners, despite the fact the restaurant was almost empty. We had already studied the menu online, and placed our order. The Gazpacho came quickly, and while it wasn't mind-blowing, it was a decent example of a fresh and floral Gazpacho. Sadly, things went downhill from there. We ordered the Seafood Tower, as well as the Orzo Risotto. The tower was simply a cold pile of shellfish that featured half an over-cooked lobster (stringy is a generous description), a couple of over-cooked shrimp (definitely frozen then defrosted), a smattering of crabs legs (with no tools to dig the meat out) and a few very depressed oysters amidst a weird concoction of cooked (but cold) mussels and clams. It was edible for the most part, though we certainly didn't eat it with much gusto or enthusiasm. The Risotto was essentially green rice pudding that quickly congealed into a veritable solid mass. The kitchen over-cooked the rice and under-seasoned the dish to such an extent that I'm sure Gordon Ramsey's ears were burning. I also had to reorder the bread plate, which was supposed to go along with our Gazpacho appetizer. TIP: don't bother with the bread. The service thoughout was pleasant and professional, but I get similar service in a Dunn's or Chinese buffet...I expect more from a "gourmet" dining experience. We proceeded to order dessert, and the adventure continued: the creme brulee was actually scrambled eggs with a burnt caramel topping...they over-cooked it. The tiramisu is served in a glass globe perched atop a 1/2 pound of white sugar. Even the waitress looked sheepish when we asked her "why?". A high-point was when I spilled my cafe au lait accidently onto my lap, and the waitress came over and boisterously proclaimed "Monsieur, t'as tu trop but!" (Sir, you drank too much!) - I had to then ask her to get me something to clean myself with...she brought 3 cloth napkins back. They also left the floor the way it was, so I got to sit for another 15 minutes in sticky coffee. I was also NOT offered a replacement coffee, just given my $300+ bill. Listen...I eat in a lot of great places across North America, and a lot of crummy places as well. Guess what? I rarely write about any of them. This place sort of floats in the middle of these 2 extremes, but the food quality certainly does not represent the inflated prices that are being charged. The kitchen is lazy, the head chef is even lazier to let this stuff leave his kitchen. There are a LOT of great restos in that area, so they need to up their game or they'll continue to have half-full dining rooms on a Friday night. We certainly won't be back...life is much too short.
