Came here while in town for the holidays and very much enjoyed my meal. I had never been here before but had heard about how great the food was and I must say, I was not disappointed! My favorites were the coconut shrimp and the mango Mahi-mahi ceviche. The ceviche was SO delicious and fresh, I see why it's in their name! Big tender chunks of fish paired with the perfect bite of mango. The coconut shrimp was delightful. Flakey, crunchy and everything you want out of coconut shrimp. I also love that it was paired with a sweet/ spicy sauce. Yum. We had gotten the pineapple salsa which was just ok, but not spicy enough for my liking and it felt too much with the mango ceviche we also got. I'd get the ceviche over the salsa. For my meal I opted for the La Plancha with the seabass. I had never had corvina before and I loved how buttery smooth and light it was. It was cooked perfectly and it felt like a great healthy option with the coconut rice and daily veg. It was good! We ended with flan, which tbh was not my favorite. It wasn't the texture I am familiar with for flan, felt more cheesecake like to me. I would skip this. We also had margs, which were tart and light on the alcohol but still good and we got them on special. Our server was very attentive and sweet. Great service. I was in Wilmington on vacation and my Airbnb hostess invited me out to dinner. Luckily we had reservations because it was quite busy. We shared the mango guacamole and it was delicious with fresh baked chips. I had a blueberry lemonade mock-tail and it was super refreshing. Let me start off by saying, the loss of one star is due to location/ambience. My mom and I actually laughed when we pulled up because it's RIGHT on the side of a busy road in Wilmington. We requested to be seated outside, and our view was of the traffic speeding by - my anxious self was worried a car would accidentally veer off and plow through our table! NEVERTHELESS... The ceviche was sooooo good and fresh! We shared the guacamole flight and ceviche flight.. the chips were homemade, crisp and golden... and each ceviche and guacamole was 10/10!!! My personal favorites were the classic and the coconut milk ceviches! And the guacamole with the goat cheese! So so yum! I also had a margarita and it was perfect - not too sweet! Was out running errands, during a recent beach house writing retreat, in the volcanically hot super-humid NC summer air, and, just by chance discovered this incredibly cool, (literally AND figuratively) Panamanian restaurant/bar. Ducked inside and took a seat at the bar and was quickly and enthusiastically greeted, given a carafe and glass of water, drink and food menus and a much-needed access to an electrical outlet behind the bar. Now, when I said this place was cool, (in the figurative sense) you have to understand that I have a deep aversion to any place that TRIES to be cool. You know the kind of place I'm talking about. Well, clearly the owner/management AND the staff of Ceviche's feel the same, because their isn't an OUNCE of pretentiousness to be found in this place. What IS to be found is some of the best-- wait for it-- CEVICHE I've had inside the continental United States. Not that this staple dish of Latin America is the only thing to be had here. To the contrary, there's a great selection of other dishes... But, if you're looking for authentic, fresh, pallate-slappingly flavorful ceviche... Look no further. And, while there are several modern fusion versions of traditional ceviche on offer, it is the traditional staple, "Corvina", that I was hoping would impress... And, did it ever. A fantastic, but simple combination of Sea Bass, lime juice, onions, jalapenos, cilantro, (and, I'm sure dashes of secret recipe type stuff!), this simple pleasure was a flavor knockout. Paired with a couple of potent and delicious "Sea Love" margaritas, and what started out as a drive-by-discovery target of opportunity for what I hope, might, at best be a quick, decent, lunch, turned into an entire afternoon of great food, great drinks, and, I might add, epic service. As busy as they were, (the place was crowded, inside AND out-- on a Tuesday!) the entire staff found a way to check on me often, refill my drink-- fast-- AND make sure my laptop was charging! Everyone working there seemed to take a kind of familial pride in what the establishment was trying to do... which, in the end, was, according to legend, allow the Panamanian owner to serve his guests "the kind of food that made him happy, growing up..." This is our MOST favorite place to eat when we are in Wilmington and it remains so still yet! We ate here last weekend while we were in....made reservations (always recommended)....and feasted! Parking is still wonky and tight, which is really the only "negative"....but it obviously doesn't deter customers. We started with the ceviche samoler and yhe guacamole---YUM. So glad we finally had a chance to come here for dinner! It really lives up to all the hype. When you come in, the atmosphere is laid back but really impressively decorated. We had a reservation and were seated right away on a Thursday night. Our table was on their outdoor patio area with the fake plant/bush wall, and though a little worried it might be too warm, it was kept actually quite temperate. Our server came to get drink and food orders, and our group had decided beforehand that of course, we need to get some ceviche. We started with margaritas and the yucca frites, as well as the small mango-mahi and small mixto ceviches. What an amazing start to the meal. The ceviches were incredibly fresh and served with warm salty tortilla chips. Both were a different experience of flavors that paired extremely well together, and especially with a marg. The yucca fries were served hot along with a jalapeno aioli (in my opinion, somewhat mild). The frites came with 8 huge fries, so everyone was able to have two at our table. The small size ceviches were perfect to let everyone have a few bites of one but not ruin ourselves for dinner. I ordered La Plancha - mahi for my dinner, and I was pleasantly surprised by the large portions since I had read reviews that stated the portions were abysmal. Not here! The mahi-mahi was perfectly grilled and tasted fresh and was perfectly flaky. It was served on a bed of rice with salsa on top. On the side was the chef's daily vegetable (broccolini) along with a roasted corn & peppers mix and patacones, which are a kind of fried plantain. Also ordered was the Ropa Vieja, Jerk Shrimp Skewers (not pictured), and Blackened Tuna (not pictured). Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and since the portions were so large everyone got to try each dish! After waiting six years to finally try out this restaurant, I was able to visit this year for my birthday! I was literally like a little kid in a candy store. This is one off of my bucket list and let's say it did not disappoint from the service to the ambience everything was amazing, we started out with cocktails and I got the Panamanian painkiller since it was one of my favorite cocktails and it was amazing. We then had all of our items brought out at once and we chose the ceviche sampler the scallops and pork belly entrée and empanadas the ceviche was extremely fresh and absolutely divine, I wish the tostadas could've been a little more crispy or fry to order but they were still decent. The langoustine ceviche was actually my favorite. The scallop and pork belly entrée was absolutely amazing. The scallops were cooked perfectly and they were huge and the pork belly asparagus and mashed potatoes were all divine. My friends took me and my friend here when we were visiting them, and it was delicious! I have craved the Ropa Vieja ever since! It was tender and juicy. It was perfectly portioned, with great-tasting rice and beans and perfectly cooked plantains. I got one of the drinks too, and it was great. The servers were very nice, and the food came out quickly. We didn't have to wait long to get in either. It's kind of a bar atmosphere. It was a little bit noisy, but the food was amazing. And it outweighs the noise. We had heard about Ceviche's but this was our first experience. I made reservations and we dined on the back patio which was really nice. We started off with the guacamole sampler. The varieties were traditional, mango and goat cheese. All were fantastic. We also got the La Nina ceviche sampler which is 2 ounces of each of the classic offerings. They were all delicious!!! Our entrees were fantastic as well ( we ate too much, but with a menu like this it was difficult not to )!! I got the monk fish which was blackened and served over roasted broccolini and sweet potatoes. The fish was perfectly cooked and the accompanying vegetables were delicious. My husband got the paella and it was out of this world. Our friend got the chorizo and goat cheese empanadas for his entree and enjoyed them very much. Ceviche's came highly recommended from several friends. It was even better than they described. Be sure to request to sit "outside" when you book your reservation on Open Table. They have an awesome outdoor space in the back of the restaurant with a roof and cool air blown in. We weren't able to sit there tonight but will be sure to do that next time. We split the poke bowl and loved it. It was a great way to sample the guacamole and shares well. We also shared the blackened tuna plate which came with incredible brussel sprouts with bacon. Overall experience was okay. Parking was not great. I have a big truck and there is little parking and small spaces. It was also not clear where to park if you're not familiar with the area. Staff was friendly enough, but seemed bothered by serving us. The ambiance was cute. I loved the homey-ness of the place. We sat inside, but in the garden area. They could use more fans because it was very hot. The food was good, but not as spectacular as I had hoped it would be. The chips were decent, I could tell handmade, but I just didn't like them. If you are Hispanic and/or if you do not support racism, DO NOT GO HERE. I brought my family out for dinner here on 6/1. They were visiting from out of town. I had been wanting to try this place since I moved here to Wilmington a little over a year ago, but never got around to it. Well, this past weekend we walked in and we were so excited to try the food since we are Dominican and some of the menu items are our cuisine (for example, sancocho is ours, but this location puts a Panamanian twist to it). We got our appetizers with the "salsa"which was actually pico de gallo, and the elote dip which was quite literally just cold corn that tasted like it was straight from the can. Even though the appetizers were awful, we were still looking forward to the food. Our waiter looked at us with such disgust every time we asked for something. He wouldn't even respond to us when we'd ask for things. He'd go grab things and put them on our table and not say a word. He also rushed us to put our order in. Seems like he just did not want to deal with us. We decided to ask for our bill for our drinks and appetizers so that we could get dinner elsewhere. The only decent part of this experience was the manager who came over to apologize to us. She did not make us pay for the appetizers and drinks, which was nice. She tried to get us to stay, but we were far too uncomfortable. Our server was being kind to everyone else except for us. We were the only Hispanics there.
