Parking is easy & the salon is always beautiful & super clean and pretty. I have been seeing Mindy here for years & don't entrust my color to anyone else. I have very dark thick hair so if the bleach & prep before coloring isn't done properly it's a disaster. Mindy is only here about 2x a week. She's great w the cut & color & gives lots of tips for maintenance as well -so I hardly even pay or come for touch ups. The pricing is comparable to what friends have paid at other salons & my color lasts way longer than theirs. Outrageously expensive. Both Mary and Azita charge way over the market. Mary charges $80 for haircut for a super simple haircut with no layers and sends you away with wet hair. If you want your hair blow dried, it is extra $25. Likewise, Azita's prices has been increasing over time with no justification, and at every visit she would sneak in extra $20-25 to the bill. It is very frustrating to see how greedy they are. These ladies, both at retirement age, are looking for making money quick without having to work for more than 3 days a week. read more

I've been living in California for a year now and haven't been able to find a hair dresser who I felt met both criteria until I tried Tanya's today for a hair cut. Mary, the salon owner, is a genuine person and careful hair dresser. She's been cutting hair for well over 30 years and clearly knows what she is doing. The cut cost me $30 (my hair was pretty long and is very thick, as every hair dresser tells me), but I truly appreciate the thorough questions Mary asked me and it's clear she takes pride in her work. The building itself is not fancy and the products aren't overly fancy either but at the end of the day, what is important to me is that I get a good hair cut and have an enjoyable experience-- Mary fulfilled both of these and more. I took my 3 years old daughter to have her first haircut with Mary last week. Mary was amazing! she treated my daughter like a princess. My daughter was so relaxed and happy and Mary cut her hair fast and exactly as I wanted. Then I had my haircut and Mary did a great job.She knows me already so she knows exactly what I like and want. I don't have a lot of time to spend on my hair. I like to just blow it dry, flip a curl or two and go. To do that quickly takes a GREAT haircut, and Azita is the only person in this valley I have found who can do it right. I've been everywhere- pricey salons from Los Gatos to Palo Alto and everywhere in between. I don't know why others have such a hard time, maybe I have tricky hair? There are no more than two clients at a time, safely distanced. Mary is smug and insincere. She rushed the haircut hectically and snatched ( yes greedily "snatched") more money than she initially communicated as $50. It was a shock after she rushed me off. What appeared to be exaggerated "friendliness" initially, was no more than phoney nonsense as and distasteful. Again- very uncomfortably and feigned kindness. Not a quality experience. Felt humiliated by the things she didn't realize consciously she was saying. I'm Latina, so was she but I felt really humiliated and taken advantage of. I tried to persuade her to not finish styling as she was rushing and mumbling. I felt that she wants to do everything very fast because she is running out of time. I did not feel comfortable there. I think Mary charged me too much for just a haircut. Very expensive place. After the initial chop, she did a wash and towel dry. We chatted a bit and a short while later, my haircut was exactly what I wanted! I wear my hair cut short. I have never been successful at finding someone who can give a good short hair cut. I always used to pay for a haircut and then spend my time and energy fixing it. Finding Mary at Tanya's Hair Design changed all that for the better! Mary gives a great haircut! It is always even and neat looking when she finishes, and it is always a perfect haircut! I never have to touch it at all! I found Mary when I worked down on Castro Street. I live in Redwood City, but still always drive down to have Mary cut my hair; I wouldn't even try anyone else! Just got my first haircut from Mary, and I'll definitely be going back. I've been trying out different hair salons in the South Bay since I moved here 4 years ago. I always go in wanting the same thing- an easy to manage cut that looks good. They always respond the same way- layers. And I'm fine with layers. But I want them to look good. Mary is a great stylist and this is a wonderful, inexpensive place to get a haircut. She cut, styled and blow-dried my hair in about 40 minutes. It was one of the least expensive haircuts I've had, but just as good. One thing to note is that getting a blowdry doubles the cost of the haircut (haircut is $20, blow-dry is another $20). Mary likes to blow-dry your hair the first time she cuts it to make sure it comes out perfectly. But going forward you can choose just a haircut and skip the blowdry. The salon is nothing fancy but Mary is a very sweet person. She doesn't use fancy products. What Mary does is create a style that you can maintain yourself. Walking in, I was extremely nervous because I have yet to find a hair stylist that took their time to get to know me and what hair style would suit me. Maria did just that. I walked away with a hair cut I'm extremely happy with and the urge to move here just so I can come to her for my hair cuts all the time. I have long, thick hair and it's oddly wavy and never stays in one place - which is why I'm particular about my hair cuts since a bad one will not allow me to wear my hair down.
