Ice Cream Sandwich: Simple, yet so original. I only know of one other place that makes fresh ice cream cookie sandwiches. For $2.50, you get a scoop of Dave's ice cream sandwiched between two freshly baked cookies. Strawberry Lavender Italian Soda Bubble Tea: Or the "Uptown". Awfully expensive for the amount you get, but it was original and the taste was perfect. Service: They weren't very friendly, but maybe because I had the nerve to talk in their coffee shop? After a long day at the beach, sometimes you find yourself in desperate need of some caffeine. That's where ChadLou's comes in. This hodgepodge coffee lounge has quickly become my last stop before making the drive back into town. At first glance, it's easy to write this place off. The interior looks a little rundown and I've noticed some proportion issues with some of the seating options, but after a few visits the place really starts to grow on you with its rustic charm. Just be sure to steer clear of the lower table tops paired with the taller red stools. I've seen people sit there and their knees just end up hitting the table. There's room for larger groups in here, as my friends and I (a group of about six) always find ourselves sitting around their largest round table. There are also couches you can sit on in one of the corners. My only complaint? It gets a little hot, as there's no AC here. What keeps me coming back? Their delicious drinks and *dirt cheap* prices. My favorite so far has been the Kula Ice Grindz. Kula is their vanilla/lavender flavor, and it's really delicious blended. A medium will run you about $5 -- that seems to be the perfect size for me. If you're dining in, they'll bring it to your table in an adorable mason jar, perfect for Instagramming. I'm also a big cookie ice cream sandwich fan, and you can get them here at an AMAZING price. Choose from their homemade cookies (you can get a different one for each end), your flavor of Dave's Ice Cream, and voila! Press and enjoy. You can even stop by for a pot of freshly steeped tea. Believe me, the presentation is beautiful! Two clear cups and a tea pot, lovingly placed on a wooden board and brought to your table. And get this -- you can even get a refill! All for about $4. It's just great. There's also free WiFi available. I'm definitely a fan of this mom and pop business and will be coming back for my coffee or sweets fix whenever I'm in Kailua for sure! Been here twice so far and really like this place. The customer service is great and the atmosphere is amazing. The coffee is consistently delicious. Best of all is free parking out back! I deducted half a star for super weak wifi. It took several minutes just to load my email. This was also the case during my first visit so now I just plan to come here when my workload doesn't require internet. Another half star because I'm not a fan of their waffle. It was really dry and dense to me. Definitely plan on coming back and giving other menu items a try! read more

I came here every morning I was in Kailua (only 3 days but still). I had a pourover of a coffee from Big Island that was very good. The regular drip and cold brew were also great. All of the food I ordered was good too. Coconut macnut waffle was awesome and surprisingly filling, the half papaya for $2 is great, and the yogurt granola bowl I had was a bit on the sweet side for my tastes but still delicious and quite filling. I've been here off and on through the years and overall it's decent coffee. When it's busy expect to wait but today really disappointed me. Only 2 of us in line. After waiting over a few minutes the 3 (yes three) workers behind the counter chatting with the customer in front of me another customer walks in and happens to be friends with one of the workers. Immediately she takes this person's order for coffee and starts making it. Meanwhile I'm still standing there thinking okay...did she just do that? Finally I place my order for coffee as well and before the person behind me even pays the barista hands him his coffee. Wow, just wow. Went on a coffee tasting hosted by Matt, the owner. It was a wonderful experience. He is extremely knowledgable and passionate about his craft. We got to taste 6 different coffees that had been grown in different regions. One was aged in rum barrels. One was from Yemen. One was aged anaerobically. Some can be pricey, as most coffee shop treats are, but they're worth it. My husband bought one of their signature iced drinks made with ice cream, and it was insanely delicious. I wanted to slurp up 50 of them. No joke. I got a hot honu latte, and I love all the different milk choices they have - almond, etc! So nice! This bubble-gum looking purple was soooo delicious as an ice cream! You can select your own cookie type and ice cream flavor and they make you a custom ice cream sandwich. Brilliant! Their coffee and chai are also excellent, as is the ham & cheese croissant. This is a great place for meeting with friends or doing some work remotely. The first time I went here, I didn't know what to get. They have an extensive list of drinks and even desserts (ice cream, baked goods, etc.). It was late afternoon and I asked the barista if she could make me an affogato, she recommended I spice it up and add a pump of their chai syrup. Let me just say this was just simply BRILLIANT. I have gone back several times to order this ONLY and every time I have visitors I take them here for a little dessert/pick me up. My boyfriend and I are always looking for local coffee shops to go to in order to avoid drinking coffee from large franchises like Starbucks. While in Kailua, we came across this coffee shop on yelp and were both Eager to try it. Parking: There are parking spots close by, but be sure to have change handy because most of the spots have parking meters and thankfully my boyfriend had quarters to feed it. Seating: there is very limited seating in this coffee shop, there are a lot of people who are using computers and College students. I was able to find seating but it was tucked away in the back near the back door so people were constantly walking past my boyfriend and I. Coffee: The coffee was okay, there was nothing particularly special for me personally. I am an avid drinker of coffee and am also lactose intolerant, so they did have a lot of milk alternatives compared to most small coffee shops but the flavors were bland and seemed to have only one note. You also get a very small amount of coffee for the price you pay, my drink (manoa mocha $5.25 plus tax) was only about 12 ounces at the absolute most. I am someone who enjoys voting for local businesses with my dollars, but considering how small the drink was, I would have at least expected less ice that took up a good amount of room in the cup. Food: my boyfriend and I shared a chocolate chip banana bread and I must say that it was very delicious, he also got a Brie and tomato Sammie and he seemed to really enjoy it. As far as food goes, I have no complaints and definitely want to go back in order to try some of their other options. Overall, I think that if you're looking for a place to support local businesses and don't mind paying the extra few dollars for normal coffee, this is definitely the place. As far as avid coffee drinkers go, this may not become your favorite spot. read more

Both were absolutely delicious with the right amount of sweetener and everything you could possibly want in your drink. Call me a dork but I've always imagined myself in a coffee shop just like Central Perk on Friends. Antique furniture that does not match... a big mug of coffee in hand... live music or even some sort of poetry slam in the background. Chadlou's is pretty much the closest thing that I can experience to that... at least that I know of! It is a quaint little coffee shop that serves great coffee in giant mugs with coffee art. They also have amazing frittatas... although I like to think that mine are better. The only bummer is that I only come here when I visit friends in Kailua. It's too much of a trip to make JUST for coffee. I'm still on a hunt for that perfect coffee shop where I can kick back and relax with a great read. Gem in Kailua, excellent cortado! A little pricey, as most hipster places are. Ordered a banana Nutella waffle (specifically no walnuts) and the order took so long, I ended up getting a second cup while waiting. I took it to go and was surprised to find nuts when I got home.
