What a great find in Kailua! My friend and I wanted a chill place for a cup of coffee, but we ended up having a light dinner there this evening. We both had coffee; I had a cup of cappuccino. The cappuccino was done perfectly - nice espresso notes and just the right amount of milk and foam. This being Hawaii and mindful of baring our bodies on the beach, my friend and I opted for salads instead of the possibly more satisfying tartines, but we chose well in the end. I had their Chicken Waldorf Salad, a seemingly aristocratic name for a plebeian mix of greens, chicken breast, pecans, seedless grapes, raisins, apples, and a yogurt-based dressing. It was healthy, tasted great, and made for a satisfying dinner. The staff at ChadLou's was very friendly and chill, and the joint is a cute and unique Kailua gem, of which I wish there were more. And apparently, they have ube ice cream! Try this Philippine flavor of ice cream, and you'll be raving about it for days on end! Highly recommend ChadLou's for a light meal, a delectable dessert, or a good cup of coffee. Will be back! read more

Only go here on a day when you literally have all day. It's not uncommon to wait +30 minutes for a cup of coffee. I've enjoyed a drink and a breakfast sandwich here before but rarely go because of how long the wait is. I attempted to go this morning and they had one barista taking orders and making drinks. I never got my coffee because it had been 30 minutes and I had to rush to work. I felt horrible for the barista because she working as fast as she could while everyone in the building was frustrated. It was so uncomfortable standing in a silent coffee shop where you could literally cut the tension with a knife. Shout out to you, girlfriend. You're the real MVP. In a world that's been taken over by Starbucks and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, there is something so lovely about a neighborhood coffee shop like Chadlou's. I came here with friends to catch up on life happenings and ordered a cappuccino and their signature ice cream sandwich. Cappucino: Not your ordinary cup of joe and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed my drink. The barista made it with care and I was actually sad when I found the bottom of my cup. Ice Cream Sandwich: The plus is that I love that you choose your cookies and ice cream for a customizable experience. The minus is it didn't follow through in flavor and texture. I actually think I would have enjoyed the ice cream and cookies more if they were completely separate. I think an ice cream sandwich cookie needs to actually be more chewy, and these were on the harder side. A for effort though! Vibe: A mixture of hard at work students, men who were annoyed that we were hanging out and talking, and couples enjoying a lazy afternoon together. Mixed array of found furniture and a bathroom which unfortunately was being repaired at the time. How does one sit at a coffee shop all day with no el bano? Donde esta el bano por favor senor?! Although ChadLou's is in a less than desirable part of Kailua (this is what my girlfriend shared with me) I'd totally drive over the mountain for a cofficing date. Ordered a kula latte (lavender and vanilla) and the latte was amazing. Came out super fast as well. I also ordered a egg and cheese sandwich that I was not that impressed with. It was about $9.50 for a very small sandwich that did not taste that great (egg taste fake/rubbery). I believe their sandwiches are outsource though so it is not their fault. Although we had a hard time finding parking, we liked this coffeeshop that seemed like a haunt for local regulars (always a good sign). The coffee and bakery treat we bought were hot and very good, which was so needed because we were tourists during the unusual cold spell in Hawai'i in early 2019. COVID-19 update: *Keep in mind that they will be re-opening at their new location on the corner! Take out is available & I would recommend taking home coffee beans/grounds as well. A place that definitely knows their coffee. I used to come here often for their AMAZING Kula lattes. Recently, I've decided to go with the take home grounds. Recently I picked up a bag of coffee beans which was later turned to grounds. As someone who doesn't have a coffee bean grinder, it was very helpful when they offered to have it ground up for me. Also, once I told the man working that I was going to use it for cold brew, he knew it make it a little coarser. Also, once I made the cold brew at home I was pleasantly surprised by the depth in flavor. I always doubted that I could have the "Chad Lou" quality at home but this cold brew proved me otherwise. Such a great find! We were in Kailua for the week & always up early (thanks, jet lag) so I needed a good caffeine fix. I LOVED the "fancy" coffee options (since I can't drink big girl coffee & like to have flavors I've never heard of when I travel. I can get a vanilla latte anywhere...) So day 1, the Kula (lavender vanilla) coffee was phenomenal! I'm back for day 2, with an Iced creamy Kailua Latte, mango Maui iced black tea, and banana bread. We're both very happy with our choices. Anyway, I instantly fell for this place: the interior feels like hanging out in your eclectic hipster friend's apartment. Drinks in Ball jars, cable spool table, funky tile. I'd driven past many times and have been twice in the last two weeks. Free parking is available in the lot behind the coffee shop, which you enter to your right as you're facing the building. Full disclosure: I'm not a coffee drinker because when my brother and I were kids our mom ground coffee beans every morning around 5 a.m., waking us up, and we vowed never to drink it. We have both stuck with the vow. I drink tea. The ChadLou house ice tea is unsweetened (the way I like it) and refreshing. Served in a mason jar. The people working are nice and friendly. It's very mellow inside. There are lots of bread slice options, from banana to papaya. I enjoyed the hummus and feta sandwich for lunch. It came with a pickle and chips. They make the food then bring it out to you. There's free drinking water - you pour your own mason jar. The seating is eclectic - from a desk that looks like it might have been in an office in the 80s to bigger tables with bar stools, square tables for groups and a big round table that looks like a giant sewing spool. I've sat at one of the big tiles tables and also the 1980s desk. It's a smallish space, but cozy and comfortable. I've been able to get a lot of work done there. Strangely, I have been there many times and have never found it crowded? Maybe it's a location thing? You will find them situated on the backside of Kailua Road on Kihapai Street, not the, historically speaking, best known location in Kailua, but that is rapidly changing. Many small boutiques, both men's and women's have sprung up here, and with Moke's, Boston's, and Lemongrass Cafe in close proximity, dining options are plentiful as well. I did a little challenge on my last trip. As I had to be in the neighborhood on business anyway, I tried to make a lovely, young girls dream (not you KG, but M's) come true, by eating ice cream sandwiches...myself...what a guy won't do for a friend...:-). I had stopped off in Kalihi earlier and barged my way in to Scoops, and barge is a correct word, as they were closed, and demanded to be server (whined, begged, maybe even wept, just a little) so I could complete said mission. The owner of Scoops was more than accommodating, but that is a different review... This review is about the mouth watering cookie and cream ice cream sandwich that calls my name in a sirens song anytime I get close to Kailua. Two larger sized cookies with a ball of cookie and cream goodness placed inside, waiting for me to smash and devour. That is ChadLou's, but it is so much more, it is that tattered, slightly worn looking, cozy place that reminds me of going to a friends home, a friend whose parents were way more hip than my own, know what I mean? I just wanna whip out Saul Bellows and start contemplating life... :-) But it's not just that the ice cream sandwich is so tantalizing, or the atmosphere is so soothing, it's the fact that you are in the comfort zone...that has become Kailua...a park and walk town...a huge growing, living, organism, that develops something new, seemingly, everyday, but still retains that small Mayberry feel. It's a Waikiki, where you know everybody, and those you don't, you think you might. It's my town... ChadLou's has an extensive coffee, tea (both iced and hot), and sandwich menu to accompany their, usually, eight flavors of ice cream and four types of cookie delights...it is hands down worth a drive to the Windward side...check'em out... Chadlou's is one of the nicest local coffee shops I've been to in Oahu. It's located in the beach town of Kailua. Upon arriving here, I could already see locals sitting outside reading the morning newspaper, a few couples here on a date and some inside doing school work. I ordered an iced "Makapu'u Mocha" latte. I wanted this choice because it sounds home grown. It tasted like creamy chocolate, slightly strong, but the smoothness and quality was really good. It's served in a Mason Jar. For something quick and on the go I ordered the "Mac-Nut Brownie". It's sweet, rich with chocolate, nutty with that slightly gooey center. My son loved this. They're also known for their ice cream sandwiches made with homemade cookies and tea lattes. I'd like to tryout the Ube flavor ice cream with chocolate chip cookies and the coconut macadamia nut herbal tea latte, these are things I'd like to comeback for. Inside there's a lot of table space with tall chairs, but comfortable environment. There's street parking and I was fortunate to park right in the front of the shop. If you're in town and looking for a cup of joe before heading out to the beach, Chadlou's is worth a visit. read more

Sorry Chadlou's. What happened to you? Gone is the cute, warm, inviting ambiance that made me want to sit, relax and have coffee/food, and chit-chat with friends. Being busy is a good thing, but the interior now looks industrial dingy, dark and cramped. The tables in the middle are too low for any normal size human being to sit at without hunching over, to get at your food, and sitting on the red metal stools bring your knees level with the top of the table. (And I'm short....just imagine if you've got someone taller sitting there.) There aren't too many comfortable places to sit. We ordered a BLT and Turkey BLT to go. The bread was half way toasted or warmed up. It was neither crunchy toasty or soft so It tasted stale. Not a good thing for a sandwich. Turn off: Someone sitting with her feet resting on the wooden chest people use as a table. Hope they clean that thing off between customers. This place used to have a really good vibe to it and I'd really like to see it get back to that. It's really a struggle to give this place such low stars, but regrettably it's a 2.5 for me. read more

A quick tip: know where to stand if you want to order. Met a friend here for coffee Wednesday morning (my first time here) and had an interesting experience. The counter where you order from is like a corner. One side of the corner faces the front of the shop, and one side of the corner faces the seating area. There was a group of 3 people who were ordering/paying on the side that faces the seating area, I was standing behind them. As the 3 finished paying and left the counter, I was ready to order when another customer walked in and stood in front of the side facing the front of the shop. The girl behind the counter immediately turned to the new customer and started taking her order. Me: "Oh, do I need to stand on this side of the counter (which is about 18" away) to order?" Girl behind counter: "Yeah, sorry you order from here." Me: Oh ok, I just figured you order from this side since that's what the 3 people in front of me did...my bad. You guys should have a sign to tell people where to order from." :/ Needless to say it was a bit irritating but at least the girl behind the counter did tell me where to stand with a smile on her face. They don't have decaf so I ended up ordering some herbal tea. I did have a sip of my friend's coffee though and it was nothing special. They do have snacks and sandwiches but didn't try any of those, they look OK though. The best part about this place would be the atmosphere. It's a very low key, laid back vibe. My friend and I sat along the sidewalk and people watched which was pretty cool. This would be the main reason I'd come back. My friend lives really close to ChadLou's, so we went one morning for coffee. We had both eaten breakfast already, but she told me that the drinks here are divine. Though ChadLou's is within walking distance of my friend's place, we drove to make the commute time shorter. There's a small parking lot in the back ... there are limited spaces, but if you're fortunate, you'll be able to score one. We went pretty early on a Saturday morning, so there was ample parking available. Not only that, but we had our prime choice of seating. I absolutely loved the vibe and décor of this coffee shop. It's the perfect place for studying or getting work done. I love how the chairs look antique but cozy; I wouldn't mind camping out for a few hours here! DOWNSIDE: There is no bathroom. Or, I should say, there is a bathroom here but it doesn't work. When we asked where the closest restroom was, they directed us to Hardware Hawaii across the street! They really need to get their bathroom fixed ... it is a coffee shop, after all. Plus, that's a major deterrent if you want to stay here for a few hours. If I overlook the bathroom issue, this would be one of my favorite coffee shops on the island. Not only is the menu extensive, but there's a good selection of baked goods as well. I regretted eating breakfast on the morning my friend and I visited this coffee shop ... otherwise, I could have helped myself to one of the delicious brownies or treats available! I haven't tried any of the cookie ice cream sandwiches yet, but I'll save that for a future visit. Once you order, you can help yourself to water from mason jars and pick your choice for seating. I absolutely adore the look and feel of ChadLou's and can't wait to return ... once their restroom is in working order, that is. Here's what my friend and I got: "Iced Mocha": My friend like sweet drinks with a hint of espresso, and since it was a hot day, I opted for this medium mocha over ice. My friend had gotten this before and highly recommended it. I loved the chocolate taste and was able to get this option with almond milk. As with all iced drinks, I had to be careful not to gulp it down too quickly ... but it was so delicious that it was hard to consume this slowly. It was a great choice during my first visit and I would gladly order it again. "Hazelnut Latte": My friend got her latte iced because it was a warm summer morning, and though the "Iced Mocha" I got is her go-to order, she wanted to try something different. So, she opted for one of the syrups you can add into your drink and chose hazelnut. She said she liked this drink because it reminded her of Nutella, but she still preferred the "Iced Mocha." "Mocha Chocolate Chip Ice Grindz": I asked what the "Ice Grindz" drinks were, and the girl at the counter told me these are similar to frappuccinos. I would gladly choose this drink one day! I'm sure it sports a super chocolaty flavor, since it's already mocha and includes chocolate chips. As long as I can order this with almond milk or soy, I'm good to go. "Creamy Kailua Mocha": I didn't get the chance to ask about this drink option on the menu, but I'm curious to see how it's different from the iced mocha that I got. I'll be sure to ask during my next visit; on paper, this option already sounds delicious. "Brownies": During my first visit, they featured brownies with and without macadamia nuts. If I were getting one, I would opt for the variety sans the mac nuts. They looked really chocolaty, moist and soft, so I can't wait to try one during my next visit. "Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches": ChadLou's is famous for their assortment of cookie ice cream sandwiches. I'm not sure what ice cream flavors are available, but I would choose M&M, chocolate chip or peanut butter cookies as the sandwich base if they are available. read more

Ok, it been a while since I've written a review. Now that I've settled in a bit here on the island, I think it's time. Chad Lous is a cool, comfortable, friendly coffee purveyor tucked away in the quieter part of Kailua. The Good: The coffee is delicious. From simple iced coffee to your espresso drinks. The staff are genuinely friendly and help make this place the coffee house I want to come to everyday. Prices are fair and their baked goods are fresh and also delicious. If you have the opportunity to try the papaya bread. Please do, because it's phenomenal! Seating inside is pretty spacious with various options. I prefer the tables along the street on the outside to just be able to soak up the incredibly sweet fresh Hawaiian air. (We do live in Hawaii) The Bad: Finding a gem of a coffee house/lounge like this is a little tougher since its tucked away on a quiet street away from the newer side of town. Then again, this may or may not be a bad thing depending on your perspective...lol. Parking on the street is limited and metered, but there is ample parking available in the back. The Ugly: Nothing ugly here. I love this place. It has officially taken over as my favorite coffee spot which used to be Lucky Llama in Carpenteria, CA. I can't believe that I've never written a review about Chadlou's Coffee. Probably because to me it was a hidden gem all the times I've been there. Now that Kailua has blown up, it's more of a hipster hangout and is in a strip with some cute clothing stores. There is parking and an entrance in the back, or you can park along the street. I've been there probably at least 10 times over the years. On this last trip, they've changed quite a bit and went through a remodel. It used to be a simple counter with some ice cream, now they have a real counter built out, but with less seating comprised of two large high family style tables and some chairs. I liked the set-up a lot better before, but who cares, when they still have my favorite coffee drink on the island, the honu ice blended, which I think has mac nut flavor in it or whatever. I don't know, but it is my favorite thing ever. So much so that I got one when we went into Kailua and on the way out. Two in one day!! Yum! It's $5 and worth every penny. I'm glad with all the changes they've gone through, that menu item is still there. K got an ice cream sandwich with mud pie. The only thing that was a little weird was that the seating area that faces the street smelled like urine. K and I both noticed it separately, so we ended up leaving. I know Hawaii can get musty, but this was definitely a urine smell, and that does not go well with my coffee! read more

Since I moved to Hawaii, I've been looking for a coffee shop that I LOVE. In St. Louis I was fortunately to find a plethora of coffee shops that had the artsy, yummy drinks, mellow music and amazing decor. As soon as I walked in ChadLou's I wanted to jump and do I heel kick. LOVE the decor. The boxes they have on the wall are rustic and does wonders for the shop. The customers drinking their iced coffees out of mason jars. LOVE IT. Where I grew up in the south, everything tastes better in a Mason Jar. Love the menu. It's local and way different than what I'm used to, but I loved it. I wanted to order an UBE ice cream sandwich, but they were out of cookies. Bummer. I did order the UBE (purple sweet potato) ice cream. I was nervous to try it. I hate most sweet potatoes, but these purple ones are growing on me. (Maybe I'm going back to my childhood where my mother put food coloring on everything to make me eat it..... hmm.....) This ice cream was the creamiest vanilla flavor that I've ever had. Melt in your mouth amazingness. My husband sent me in to grab us both a coffee. He didn't have time to tell me what he wanted so I ordered 2 things I wanted. If he doesn't like it, I still win. =) I ordered a iced lavender vanilla latte. It was so good. I love the floral in lavender and it's so good for your body. Definitely score! If they could make a hibiscus latte that would be even better! The other coffee I had was Honu Latte. I ordered it hot. It's caramel with macadamia nut. Yum! It's great to learn there is a place in Kailua that serves fresh coffee from the espresso machine besides Starbucks and CBT. Located right across Hardware Hawaii and parking will be along the street. It's not a very spacious coffee house but they do serve up a good cup of coffee! My favorite at any coffee place (Non-Chain) has always been the Cortado. What is a cortado you ask? Well it is a beverage that consists of espresso mixed with an equal amount of steamed milk which reduces the acidity and really smoothes out the taste and flavor of the espresso. It's quite a small cup but each sip is very powerful. My favorite! Well I had ordered the cortado and it was made exactly to my liking. The only thing I didn't like about this place was that their condiments were all placed in mason jars and they didn't have individual packets of raw sugar. I usually use 3/4 of a packet and it's the perfect amount of sweetness for me, so scooping from the mason jar, I really didn't know exactly how much sugar to put into my cup. Also from a sanitation stance, I really don't know how clean it is as well since it's communal. That's just my own bias. But great place to get a cup of coffee or espresso drink along with some house-made baked goods (which I cannot critique about) as well as ice cream sandwiches! read more

ChadLou's is perhaps the original ice cream sandwich place on the island? I swear I stopped by here and had their popular ice cream sandwich wayyyy before any other places came out with it. They have an assortment of cookies and ice cream you can choose from. I had 2 chocolate chip cookies packed with ube ice cream in between. Yum! They use Dave's Ice Cream and the cookies are freshly made. The ice cream sandwiches are much, much bigger than they appear! I was completely stuffed halfway through. They are also a lot messier than people think, too. Once that ice cream starts melting, it gets all over the place. Be sure to ask for extra napkins! These tasty cold treats are really indulgent and for only $2.50, who could resist? For their coffees, they specialize in lattes. There is a huge list of different flavors they offer for their drinks; I suffered from severe decision paralysis. Eventually, I ordered the chai tea latte and it was really sweet and creamy! Definitely recommended for folks who like their coffee drinks sweet! If you're a frappuccino or Glazer's fan, you gotta make a stop by ChadLou's when you're in the area. I really like the atmosphere here. The cashier and barista are incredibly friendly and helpful. The customer service is excellent! The staff is really good about making you feel comfortable and they didn't seem to mind when I took 10 minutes trying to order coffee. Found ChadLou's after a nice day out at Lanikai Beach. Was recommended to try the iced Honu Latte. It was the perfect pick me up after hours in the sun. Drove 30 minutes out of the way to come back to ChadLou's the next day for another iced Honu Latte after kayaking to the Kaneohe Sandbar. Once again, great latte and just what I needed. Yelpers, you led me astray.  I visited ChadLou's for one reason, and one reason only - the ice cream sandwiches. I had read review after review that deemed these amazing and for only $2.50. Well, let me tell you - my ice cream sandwich was nothing special and PUNY, and I guess they've raised their prices because it was a whopping $4.50. I get it - inflation. But nearly 2x what the price was just a year ago for something I finished in less than a handful of bites? I should have asked how much it cost first before ordering (didn't see the prices for the sandwiches or any of their pastries anywhere). I did also buy a slice of papaya bread ($2.95) and I do have to say that I enjoyed that - super super moist, and I'd take one of those over their overpriced tiny ice cream sandwiches any day. However, it wasn't memorable enough for me to want to return.  ChadLou, I'm passing you up the next time I'm in Kailua, and saving my precious calories (and money!) for something that's actually worth it. read more

Just wanted to say they've recently redone the area to make more room for the barista's.. it doesn't look quite as nice as it used to but for some reason I liked it better. They have soooo many options to offer. Got an UBE bubble shake for my son, and the honu ice grind for myself. We also got 2 of their bananas on toast and peanut butter sprinkled with honey. It was delicious ♥ Came here with my family and we all enjoyed ourselves very much. They have a couple kids toys out to share and keep keiki busy while you enjoy your drinks and "lounge." Located on a hidden street in Kailua, Chad Lou's is bursting with character, warmth, originality and attention to detail. I felt like I stepped back in time when I ordered an ice cream sandwich and it was hand made for me on the spot with two chocolate chip cookies and a scoop of Dave's ice cream (which I chose Kona coffee) and served on a plate ($2.50). Also, to quench my thirst, ice water served in....a MASON JAR! The seating area is comprised of an eclectic collection of "homey" couches, chairs, pillows and tables. Details like this make Chad Lou's stand out from any other coffee shop I've been to here on Oahu. As for the food, they serve ice cream, desserts, teas, coffees and sandwiches, though all I had today was an ice cream sandwich that I would go back for in a heartbeat. Since I haven't tried what they are essentially known for, coffee, I can't give it a full 5 stars, though Chad Lou's will definitely be getting another visit from me! read more

A cute little cafe spot that serves coffee, sandwiches, ICE CREAM, and desserts. Was recommended to come here by our friend Mark. His cousin owns this place so we made it a point to check it out! Great service - they were really friendly and willing to let us sample all the flavors! I give this place 4.5/5 stars. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place, but I do have one (inescapable) complaint. FOOD/BEVERAGES: The coffee here is great and so is their presentation. Okay, I have to admit that I am a huge fan of drinks in mason jars. I love mason jars. Yes, I know it's trendy, but I am a HUGE sucker for this trend. Regardless, I totally appreciate the fact that THEY PUT THEIR COFFEE IN MASON JARS! Their water station also has a bunch of little mason jars for your water. So cute and also nice to have (you can keep hydrated!). The large sized drinks are enormous, and I can sip on them for hours! *edit (7/26/14): I finally tried the food, and I am happy to announce that I love the food too! I especially enjoy the ice cream here and the cookies. I also learned from a worker there that they actually make the baked goods that day and add their own personal touches to the recipes. How sweet and personal, two things that I don't from commercial chain coffee shops! FAVE MENU ITEM(S): (large) iced coffee with half a pump of lavender, ube ice cream, bacon maple bar, and peanut butter cookie. AMBIANCE: This place is adorable! There are round lights hung all around! There are also a couple bookshelves full of books if you didn't already come prepared with something to read. There are couches to get comfy on and tables (tall and short) to study on. One table is round, the other tables are rectangles, and there is even a table that seats two at most, which is best for those who need to study alone! There is also some seating outside for those who prefer fresh Kailua air! Something for everyone! My one (tiny) complaint, though, is that some of the chairs are a little uncomfortable to sit in; if you sit in them, they sink a little too much. This can make studying kind of uncomfortable if all the good chairs are taken. There is also a limited number of outlets, so make sure to charge your things before you leave your house OR nab a seat by the wall! SERVICE: Service is great! The cashiers are friendly, and they bring your drinks to you! This is such a sweet personal touch. Thanks for always being so welcoming, guys and gals! OVERALL: I love this place. Despite the fact that some chairs are a little too squishy, this place is one of my go-to study places. You get so much coffee, and the flavor pumps they offer are so interesting (lavender, hello!)! Unhappy. Second time I've come here and the kitchen is closed. They are open for two more hours and the kitchen is closed :( Not the end of the world but I love the food and drove from Kaneohe to eat. Sad day. read more

Makapuu latte... You've changed my life (heart eyes) This latte was amazing! So much flavor and extremely strong! Just how I like my coffee! I have yet to try their ice cream sandwiches and food, also their other signature lattes! I will def be back for more! Only down side, they have the yellow sign on their door "conditional pass" which I saw after getting my coffee. Could be something minor! (I hope) hopefully they get a green pass soon! I can't wait to come back for more goodies! My husband ordered the Americano! He really enjoyed it. Just was a bit too hot when it came out and burnt his tongue. Service was excellent! So freaking cute and homey! My mom and I went on a Kailua town field trip and this was one of our stops. This cuuute and cozy coffee shop is a little hidden, which I think is a good thing that it isn't located on the busier, touristy side of town. We got street parking right in front but there is a lot in the back of the building. Very charming from the moment you walk in with the decor, furniture down to the chalkboard menu. I was bent on getting a bubble tea drink but when I asked the girl what is popular she said mostly the fruity flavors go well with the tea. She recommended anything with coconut. I asked about their ice grind drinks and the guy told me they are espressos blended with ice and a scoop of ice cream. He had me at ice cream. I opted for the Mocha Chocolate Chip Ice Grind and my mom just got a scoop of Dave's Chocolate Chip Mochi Ice Cream. We got it to go so I wasn't able to drink out of the cool mason jar which apparently makes it soo much better. Ah next time when I have time to sit and enjoy the loungy furniture and read some books. I literally want to stay there all day and just hang out. The workers were nice and made my drink quickly. The drink tasted great! The coffee flavor was just right, not too bold and not too bland either. The ice cream didn't mask the coffee flavor either nor did it add too much sweetness. Oh and I wanted to just take my mom's ice cream from her and it all. How have I not eaten that flavor at Dave's before?? Can somebody please open up a place like this in Aiea or Pearl City? read more

Love this coffee shop! It's so adorable and hipster at the same time. It's like the Anthropologie version of coffee. The staff are friendly, the store is very well-kept and cute, and I like the fact that they support local vendors and sell some of their artsy items in the store. My husband ordered one of their mochas and loved it. We sat on one of their leather lounge chairs and hung out for a while. There was a steady flow of patrons coming in, so I'm glad to see that this place is always busy. Great place to study and to hang out at. Support local coffee shops, folks! read more

A few friends mentioned this place before and I finally spotted it while driving around Kailua. So I thought why not let's check it out. Try the tea lattes!! Or actually try everything on the menu. Its all good! What I love most of all is that their tea and coffee is different than all the other places I've tried. It seems they blend it themselves because there are hand packed jars of loose leaf tea all on display thorough the store. Besides coffee there's some great looking pastries on display or some sandwiches you could buy. And then there's the coveted Chadlou's ice cream sandwich! Man is it good. Two freshly baked cookies sandwiching dave's ice cream. $2.50 you say? That's all?! Sign me up! Like all good ice cream sandwiches this one gets a bit messy but that's the fun part. With every good coffee shop you must have ambiance. Creative dark wooden interior. Check! Art on the walls and chill music in the background. Check! Comfy mismatched furniture. Perfect! And their staff also help you to feel really welcome here. Though usually there is only one person at the register at any time so when she gets swamped the wait time can be up to 10 minutes.
