Have eaten at Chago's 3-4 times now and have loved the quality and taste of the food every time! The most impressive was a plate we ordered and it was served on a big platter with a semi-carved out pineapple sitting in the center as a bowl for some kind of salsa. DELICIOUS. Tacos are great. Burritos are great. It's all great! The wait staff has always been quite pleasant and attentive (at times, there's been a moderate language barrier, however the service remained just as gracious and effectual). I've typically preferred to sit outside (nice day!) but dining inside seems just as nice. read more

Our waiter was nice, but food was terrible. Salsa was watery and tasted like Italian marinara, but not a good Italian marinara. We got birria and it tasted bland, hardly any cheese and wayyyy too much meat. No salt and pepper on the tables to even give you the option to add flavor to your food. This is our usual take out place when traveling through Smyrna. We have stopped here multiple times. The service is always very friendly but the food is pretty mediocre. On our most recent visit hubby ordered the chicken enchiladas. When we picked them up they were covered in mole sauce. He would have preferred a green sauce but they didn't provide us an option. I had the chicken quesadilla. They were fine. A large portion but pretty bland. I was glad they provided a cup of salsa to spice them up a bit. In the past we have ordered sides of guacamole. Was on the way home and decided to stop at a restaurant on the way. Chago's popped up on our list so we decided to try it out since the reviews seemed to be good. They have both inside and outside seating and we're not busy at at the time we went - Monday 3pm. We sat outside and started with the large queso and large guacamole. Absolutely no complaints. Honestly some of the best guacamole I've had in middle TN. We had the veggie burrito and a chicken dish (forgot the name) with chicken, broccoli and mushrooms. The food was not bad. *** VEGETARIANS BEWARE (And people with food allergies) *** This was my first and my last time visiting this place, as it has now physically made me sick. They falsely advertise food as vegetarian, and do not know the difference between vegetarian, or vegan. First off, the rice has chicken stock but is served as vegetarian. I was disgusted that I not only consumed it, but am now sick as a result. I wonder how many others have been fooled and have become sick as a result. If you have, please reach out to me. This is a serious problem folks. This place needs shut down. I've been vegetarian for 30 years and cross contamination or consumption makes me ill. Very ill. They should not be doing this to people. When I addressed it my server states " it doesn't say vegan". I had to explain to him the difference between vegetarian and vegan. I should not have to explain this to them. The dictionary is free for all to use and they should definitely be paying attention to what the advertise. People. I'm so disgusted. I asked for more salsa to eat with the few chips left in the basket. He brought more salsa but no chips. I didn't ask for both so that is my fault but normally they bring chips with salsa. Decent little spot here! The fam and I stopped in for a bite last week having no preconceived notions about what we were to expect, other than we all love Mexican food, and try to eat it whenever we can! The restaurant is nice, clean, and welcoming. The waitstaff is a bit aloof, and our waiter only periodically visited our table, each time we had to ask for him to come over, but when he did he was friendly enough. I did ask for some extra salsa a couple times, and never got it. So there's that, but they were busy and I realize this spot hasn't been here THAT long, so maybe he was just new and still getting the kinks worked out. The table chips are the same old unseasoned, bland chips you get at pretty much every Mexican restaurant in the South, but their salsa was a clear winner. Excellent flavor, not overly spicy, not bland, not overly chunky, but not watery/ketchupy either. Noticable herbs and spices mixed in with onion, cilantro, and actual pepper seeds. Very tasty. Cheese dip was also good. I ordered a burrito I wish I could remember the name of. I want to say that it was like "Arandas" or something like that. Either way, it was MASSIVE! There were 4 different kinds of meat in it (carnivores-dream), and it was very, very good. I think it was pork carnitas, steak, chicken, and chorizo. Each one was cooked and seasoned very well, covered in cheese dip, and all tasted delicious together. The rice and beans were your standard for a Mexican restaurant, but serviceable. One detraction is that their bar drinks and margs are QUITE pricey, with an average of $6 per. While I understand they do run occasional specials, that's just too much for a single drink. We did not get any drinks because of this, so can't say if they are good or not. Overall, we had a good meal, I left with a takeout box (which almost never happens) and it was very affordably priced! I guess let me break it up by category: Atmosphere: This place does well of staying true to the standard Mexican restaurant vibe with the wooden booths, but also gives it a great modern lift with neons, trendy tables and chairs in the center, and a sexy looking bar. Service: You can tell that this place is fairly new and the staff is still trying to stay calm, cool, and collected, but they're on the right track. It probably took a little longer than you'd want for someone to come greet us at the door, but in their defense, they were really busy. Our waiter initially forgot our cheese dip we requested, but after that reminder, he switched gears and was ON IT. "Would you like another beer? How about some more tortillas with that sir? Do you need a to-go box for the rest? Are you all ready for the check, or would you like some more drinks or dessert?" This guy started anticipating my every need before I knew I even needed it. Well done. The food: Oh, the food... I ordered the Fajitas Pineapple and my wife ordered the Chicken Quesadilla, both of which came with rice and beans. I get a little worried when I see "gimmicky" type stuff, like I saw another tables' guacamole made table-side, one man's dish was served in a very fancy stone bowl, and my fajitas were served in a pineapple half. This makes me worry that the restaurant relies on these gimmicks because the food isn't quite up to par... This is NOT the case at Chagos, so enjoy the flare! My fajitas were absolutely delicious, making me, moan after each bite. You can tell that whoever designed this menu, REALLY knew what they were doing with flavor profiles. Everything was balanced perfectly. The rice and beans which are usually just "meh" fillers were also packed with flavor and tasted fresh. I can not vouch for the food more. It is SO GOOD. Drinks: I had Corona which tasted like Corona, so that's a plus. My wife ordered margaritas, and they were absolutely perfect. Just when the flavor was about to reach the level of too sweet and sour, a hint of salt cut through. Delicious! Price: My wife and I each got a meal that filled us (and some!) and 2 drinks each. I love this restaurant! It has such a nice feel inside and their food is always on point. I got their Pollo con queso, which is chicken with cheese sauce and mexican rice on the side. Second time here, def not the last. Several really unique offerings, beyond your standard Mexican restaurant. I had the Steak House which combines a very generous serving of flank steak (nicely seasoned!), a huge flattened grilled chicken breast, and five shrimp. Accompanied of course by rice and Mexican salad, sour cream, guac, pico de gallo, etc. The Mrs. had a dish with two ginormous chicken breasts over a bed of veggies--broccoli, grilled onions, red and green pepper, and grilled pineapple slices on top. We both had leftovers to bring home. Topped it off again with one of their signature desserts, Changos (or Xangos). Once again very good service! I agree that during this Covid Pandemic that Restaurants are not fully staffed, maybe not at their top form and this was a Carry Out. That is why there are 3 stars for average and not 2 for below. After reading the reviews, I was a little excited to try their food. I ordered the Enchiladas Supreme because it had several different enchiladas. I'm told a number and 20min, I arrive and give them my number. The waiter looks at the take aways that are ready and doesn't see "89". I go ahead and pay for it and he says just a moment. 5min later a waitress asks me again for the number, I tell her and she goes over to one of the Takeaway bags and hands it to me. Now my motel is 6min away. Let's say 10min and I'm taking the top off of the container and everything is cold. Just below room temp cool. Disappointment is rising. I try to heat it up in the room microwave and a little successful. The Ranchero sauce on the dish was different, a little sweet, borderline spaghetti sauce sweet. The cheese, beef and bean enchiladas seemed ordinary but the chicken was flavorful and the sauce worked well with it. I am willing to bet that if I was able to dine in (which they have), the dish would have been fresh from the kitchen and probably taken on a different level. But I think the Ranchero sauce and the table salsa would have been the same. The chips that came with table salsa and side of cheese dip were a half day from being too stale to serve. Again, this restaurant deserves another visit and to eat in so everything fresher. But.. my dish was what it was... Average. On a positive note, they had live music which was nice to see, great atmosphere, clean environment and good prices. Even tho I gave it 3 stars, it is worth a try. read more

Went here with my mom and boyfriend, we were seated right away and our drink order was taken as we were seated before we really got a chance to look at the drink menu. We rushed into drinks and started looking at the menu, then another server came up to take our drink order about 5 minutes later. It turns out it was shift change and the server coming on was not informed about our drink order, and that order was NOT put in. We ordered our drinks again, then asked for a few minutes to look at the menu. I had the fajitas Chago's, my boyfriend had a pork quesadilla, and my mom ordered a chicken taco salad. My fajitas were great, but I also asked for an alteration to the vegetables so I don't know if that had something to do with it. The chicken salad poured out of the tortilla bowl like soup with an inch thick layer of sour cream, the chicken was boiled and unseasoned, the salad was bland and flavorless, even with an entire small bowl of the salsa dumped into it, she sent it back and didn't want anything else.The quesadilla was the same way, the pork was unseasoned and the tortilla greasy and kinda soggy. While my food was really delicious, everyone else left feeling kind of sick. The server who helped us was awesome, even with his coworker leaving him in a bad position, he handled it well and we got great service. Far be it from me to criticize fellow Yelpers (and former fellow Elites - of which I was for several years) but sometimes corrections are needed. SO... here goes. If you like Mexican food, there are plenty of options, most are not bad but some are very good. Chago's in Smyrna is doing everything right. As the owner is related to the previous iteration Mexican restaurant that was located here for years, its surprising how different it is. Food is tastier, drinks are much better, and décor while simple, is warm and inviting....and lastly the service is on fleek....as the new urban crowd like to say. On to the review...(possibly peppered with a veiled response). If you like Mexican and are in the area, no need to go somewhere else...service is fast and the food is as good as any Mexican joint, exception being it has flavor....yes...no bland water logged non-seasoned boiled chicken here, as most other places offer. The drinks come so fast....even on busy nights the bartender and whatever helper they have push drinks out very quickly. Of course you are always chomping on delicious chips and salsa while waiting, of note, chips and salsa hit our table before we are even able to settle into the table....top notch...speaking of top notch...the guacamole...oh my. Table side handmade guac is available but its really the same as the app guac on the menu....just made a little earlier. I've had the tacos, nachos, and the pork tacos, molcajete, tamales, enchiladas, burritos, fajitas, you name it.... and have been very impressed by both flavor and volume of food for the price. The margaritas are phenomenal (yes, even the house lime margarita....awesome flavor) The sangria is delicious and if you like tequila, they have several high ends to try out of you wish...along with many house made cocktails.... Many people are surprised by how many Latin American and indeed persons of Mexican heritage like to eat at Mexican restaurants. Cultural norms have always shown that especially Mexican families, are often rather large and love to have children around them during meals. Those used to the Seattle/Tacoma or college scene will be very surprised and perturbed by the number of families who wish to include all their family members for meals, it can be a shock...especially on Sundays where families are regularly all together. I have never been left waiting to leave....servers ask if you would like anything else, offer boxes for takeout, offer dessert choices, and promptly deliver your check, which you can either pay at the table or up front by the door. As for the restaurant, please give it a visit and try it out...as other reviewers have noted, Sundays are apparently busy and loud ...try another day. But please try to leave your mind open to the great food, drinks (if you partake) and the warm atmosphere of this great new addition to Smyrna. I for one am happy they are here and hopefully stay for a long while. They even welcome planned parenthood child hating snowflakes....so....all are welcome. read more

Go somewhere else if you like Mexican food. Chris and I came here on a whim on a Sunday, which may not have been the best day of the week to go to a sit down restaurant. The place was crowded with babies screaming, kids running around, and big tables full of huge families not making their kids behave. The fact that the service was slow and the food wasn't good didn't help the atmosphere. It took way too long to get our drinks. We finally got our food orders in. I got chicken nachos and Chris got tacos Al pastor. Neither of us was impressed with our food. The chicken in my nachos was incredibly bland as was the cheese sauce. There were supposedly peppers in my nachos but I neither saw nor tasted them. Just the chips, cheese, and chicken. It then took way too long to get the check. It was busy but not insanely busy. Chris commented that since they were busy you'd think the servers would try to turn their tables over. We ended up just feeling like hostages with babies screaming around us. If Chris and I hadn't already decided never to have children we would've decided not to right then and there. We probably would've given the restaurant a second chance on a less busy time and day, but the food wasn't good enough to make us consider this. Edit: I guess someone decided to call me a "Planned Parenthood child hating snowflake" after this review as part of theirs. (I never mentioned Planned Parenthood in my review?) The first time we visited this restaurant was when my dad came to visit. We enjoyed their margaritas along with the great food. The only complaint that time is that we asked for a high chair for my son and they forgot, then when our waiter finally came and I reminded him, he had given them all out. It was fine, though, I just corralled my kid the best I could with me on the booth seat. Now this place has become a favorite of mine and my son's. I've tried numerous things on the menu and have been pleased with everything I ordered. Their chicken quesadillas, enchiladas, tacos, are all fantastic. My son gets the cheese quesadilla with rice children's meal and loves it. He also adores their chips and salsa and immediately starts dipping as soon as they sit it down on the table. I'm not sure of many not even two year olds who lick salsa off the chips and then eat them, but he loves it! He also enjoys their music and dancing and clapping to it.
