This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. The food was overpriced and misleading. $16 for three extremely small tacos that literally fit in the palm of your hand is ridiculous. My meal came out on a plate that was dangerously hot -- to the point that I burned my hand just trying to pick up the quesadilla. There was no warning at all. That is a safety issue, not "normal." The worst part was the manager's attitude. He claimed to be the son of the owners of all Cinco de Mayo locations, which made the experience even more disappointing. Instead of apologizing or showing any concern, he was dismissive and kept insisting this was normal and happens everywhere. That is simply not true -- I've been to other locations and never experienced anything like this. Being treated this way, especially by someone who represents ownership, is completely unacceptable. Cinco seems to do well as it is generally busy at dinner. I can't do sugary margs, but their skinny marg is pretty decent. We get coupons from mailers here once a month which drives us in. Cinco de Mayo in Murfreesboro impressed me with their food and service tonight. Sat at the bar and the bartender Maria took my drink order and brought me some chips, salsa, and queso while I reviewed the menu. I was vacillating over a few things and I asked Maria for a recommendation. She told me she could eat the shrimp tacos every day...I was sold!!! When the tacos arrived the savory aroma was incredible, you could smell the spices and the flame grill. Per Maria's instructions I gave the taco a liberal splash of lime and proceeded to be impressed with the wonderful flavors...these are some of the best shrimp tacos I've ever enjoyed. The rice & beans were OK, the salsa mild with nice chunks of tomato and onions, and the chips were warm and crispy. My boyfriend and I decided to get a quick lunch. I was in the mood for Mexican and this place always seems to be packed. So it made sense to give it a try. Why did I make that mistake, lol?? The food was blah. My fried jalapeños were greasy. They also put too much lime seasoning on the jalapeños, which took away from the spice of the jalapeños. My carnitas were dry and lacked flavor. Let's just go ahead and start with THE DISAPPOINTING PART of the entire experience before the reader loses interest: Our group was seated behind the hostess' podium. I could see everything she was doing. One of their utensil bundles wrapped in a napkin fell on the floor. She picked it up and put it on a shelf under her podium and proceeded to grab another set from the basket. She then seated the customers who came in. After she seated the customers, she came back to her podium and I WATCHED HER PUT THAT WRAPPED BUNDLE OF EATING UTENSILS BACK INTO THE "CLEAN" UTENSIL BIN where she would be grabbing a set to seat the next customers who came in. Thankfully, she did not grab the one dropped on the floor when she seated the next group of diners who came in. Before any keyboard warriors chime in, I stood up, picked the exact one out of the bin, and took it out of service. Diner, beware! Food was ok. But did not expect too much, coming from California. Very enjoyable experience. We started at the bar with an excellent Margarita. Moved to a table for dinner and we were very pleasantly surprised. I only say surprised because the atmosphere doesn't really shout excellent food. It's a very family oriented atmosphere, with simple seating area. We immediately received chips and salsa. The chips were fine, the salsa was very good. Not bland at all with a decent spice. Dinner was very good. Everybody was very pleased with their entree. I requested hot sauce and the waitress asked if I would like the homemade sauce, which I gladly said yes. Wow! That was excellent. Very spicy with terrific flavor. Maybe hotter than some can stand, but if you like spicy hot sauce, ask for the homemade sauce. Truly a highlight. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I had never been to this restaurant until friends invited us last month. We've now gone twice and been satisfied both times. First, you have to start with the home made guacamole. It's fantastic! Love the lime juice and the chunks. My wife always gets pollo enquesado with grilled veggies. She loves it. I usually get some kind of salad or I make my own meal (because I won't eat the factory farmed meat). For instance, once I got the fried jalapenos and put them on top of cheese and fries. Delicious. Last time, I got the home made guacamole, some shredded lettuce and cheese and made a salad. Both trips, we got the margarita pitcher and I got iced tea. Everyone was happy with the drinks. We don't get desserts so I can't speak to that. The price with drinks has consistently been about $40 before tip, which is fine with me. Good service from Juana as well. read more

The service is abysmal, the food is "okay" at best. My family and I had to wait over half an hour for our drinks and another 25 minutes for our food (which was brought out randomly). Restaurant seemed clean when we arrived and waitresse was prompt taking our order. While waiting on our order and after receiving extra napkins a worker begin to wrap the silverware in the napkins but decided to get her phone out and start either to browse or text. Instead of moving the napkins over out of the way she placed her personal phone on top of the stack of napkins while she messed around on the phone in the middle of the restaurant. I asked for a manager to point out this and instead of throwing those napkins away she just got up and moved to the bar to continue her break I guess. I too got up to leave but I still paid for my food and tipped my waitresse because it wasn't her fault that we didn't stay. This place has gone downhill since the previous manager left. I usually do takeout and the past 3 times my order had been wrong or items were missing. First time I asked for chicken in a burrito, I got carne asada. Second time I picked up my order and decided to check it before I left, they left out an enchilada I ordered. Third time I asked for 3 chicken tacos, got ground beef. I have also been in there to pick up an order and the new manager walked up to the hostess who had just gotten there for her shift and was accusing her of stealing money out of the register. As a purveyor of all things Mexican cuisine related, I have visited dozens of Mexican food establishments all over Tennessee. With all this experience comes a realization of when food is cooked and seasoned properly, care is taken in the quality of ingredients used, and the folks preparing meals seem to enjoy their craft. My wife and I absolutely LOVE the Cinco de Mayo locations closer to our home, as this brand has seemed to grow in the middle TN area with now 7 locations! We have been to 4 of them, and their food is consistent, their flavors are wonderful, and the quality of food is always paramount. (And yes, their margaritas are excellent!) We recently were in the Boro and decided to go a little out of our way to patron this, their newest location. We were pleasantly surprised by the consistency and quality of food found here, similar to the other locations we've visited. If I could pick only 1-2 things that I don't necessarily always care for: 1. At times - especially busy times - the service can be a bit slow and/or give you feeling that they don't particularly care as much about their level of service as they do the quality of their food. 2. Drink specials.... Oh my, here we go: I have a legitimate issue with the concept of drink specials on particular days altogether. My wife and I LOVE to go and get a pitcher of margs to split between us and enjoy the atmosphere. Sometimes we'd love to do this mid-week, but we absolutely refuse to pay $20 for a pitcher when you can get it for $9.99 on Saturdays. Sun-Tues, pitchers are $10.99. Still acceptable. However, on Wednesdays and Thursdays, the price skyrockets to $20. Individual, single margs are $5! No thank you. However, I will say that this is not a Cinco de Mayo only issue. This is the same with most ANY Mexican establishment you may visit. Friendly tip: become familiar with your closest/most favorite Mexican restaurant's weekly drink specials. Don't overpay if you don't have to! Ultimately: Cinco de Mayo (any location) is where to head if you want great food and good drinks! I'd recommend any location after having visited most of them several times. read more

We were quickly seated by a friendly host and it took minutes to take our drink order. Tuesday night is 9.99 margarita pitcher night and one pitcher, split by two people will do the job. I split the fish tacos with my daughter and they were probably the best fish tacos I've ever had which was very unexpected. I'm giving four stars because when friends came in and joined us, it took forever for them to take their order and we basically had to go and get a drink at the bar I'm not sure why this happened but it kind of soured the experience. We visited this restaurant yesterday. It's one of our favorite places to eat out at and or do take out from. As always it was delicious and the service was amazing. Noel was our server. He is such a nice guy and on point for service from beginning to end. He introduced himself to us and asked us our names. I highly recommend him and this restaurant. Usually the Cinco De Mayo restaurants are pretty good but this one was a disappointment. We arrived before the church crowd but had to wait unusually long for our veggie fajitas. It took so long that we nearly walked out. Then after we got our order we asked for more tortillas but ended up having to flag someone down to get them. Server blamed the kitchen for being backed up. Not sure what's up with that. It shouldn't take as long to get an order of veggies fajitas when you aren't getting any meat. It just seemed they were overwhelmed when the church crowd came in from across the street. Food was good and we might try it again but maybe at a better time. Disappointing. read more
