We came in for Cinco de Mayo and it was super packed, which is awesome! I love seeing local restaurants packed on days like these. We waited about 30 minutes for a table, which wasn't too bad all things considered. Our table of three split two pitchers of margaritas, they were only okay. Just your standard pre-mix stuff, nothing special. We ordered some guacamole with our chips and it was pretty tasty, but felt like it was lacking avocado. For dinner, I ordered a few chicken and chorizo tacos. The chorizo was good, but the grilled chicken was so bland. I tasted the tortillas and onion more than the chicken. Extremely underwhelming. I'm giving it 5 stars. I was definitely not disappointed. I read some of the other reviews, but I love places like this. At this time of day, it's quiet, and attention is paid to the few tables in here. The service was quick, and the server was friendly enough. The food is cooked perfectly for me. The meat is tender, and the veggies still have a little crunch. The only fopa was asked for no rice(I don't eat rice), and I did mention it to the server. I did receive it on my plate, but it was quickly taken back and made correctly with a lot of apologies. (I'm going with force of habit ‍) I was going to go to another Mexican restaurant in town that I used to go to many years ago, but a friend said to try this place and I won't be disappointed. I went to this place on a beautiful Saturday afternoon; nice lunch crowd with people constantly coming and going; that is, everyone but the servers. They were slow to say the least and after we paid our check we literally sat there for an additional 45 minutes without anyone asking if we needed anything; we even tried to stop our server or anyone else to no avail. The food was tasty but not as plentiful as other Mexican restaurants I visit. Please note also, everything is extra, possibly napkins because you can not understand the charges. We were greeted immediately and promptly seated. Our waiter was efficient and made sure we were taken care of in a timely fashion which stood out because of how busy they were. We had a variety of tacos with a side of beans and rice and it was all fantastic! We will definitely try something different next time as they have many options to choose from. Me and my boyfriend go in this Mexican spot all the time we went in yesterday morning and had a server that was no so good , he never refilled our drinks and checked o us 1 time, we were done eating and we waited 15 minutes for our check , when we got it I left NO tip because the service was HORRIBLE , this morning I wake up to see the server put his self a 5$ tip... Good food, reasonable prices, descent service, fair portions. However there was no a/c running and tge whole place was extremely hot. I don't know if it's always like this but it was extremely uncomfortable eating in that heat. If going, call first and ask if the a/c is running. If not, I'm sure there are other air conditioned Mexican restaurants. read more

We came here for lunch right when businesses began opening back up from COVID-19. It was one of the only restaurants open for dine-in. We got chips, salsa, queso, margaritas, and meals. It was all delicious! Our server was excellent and we were politely greeted upon entry and exit by multiple staff members. We've been going to Margarita House for well over 10 years, and never had a problem. Things changed this past Saturday evening when all in my party came down with symptoms of FOOD POISONING after eating there. (Diarrhea plus vomiting but no fever). None of live in the same household. And the only common denominator is that we all ate at Margarita House at the same time. I debated between 2 and three stars. I guess 251 because I definitely don't think that the meal and services worth the price. I came here on a Saturday at noon, and the place was pretty scarce on customers. The hostess was friendly and I was seated quickly. Regardless, it took a relatively long time for a server top approach me, and I didn't get chips and salsa until I asked for them about five minutes after being seated and ordering and receiving my drink. The salsa was nice and spicy and fresh. The food was barely mediocre and the service was average. My server was slightly helpful, but also inattentive. I ordered a fried tamale and a quesadilla lunch special. The fried tamale was burnt, and the cheese sauce that covered it was already getting cool when it was placed in my table. The quesadilla was good and cheesy though. Just look at the pictures for more details. The best oart of the meal was the watermelon margarita. It was still delicious and I was well pleased. To end a meal, my check was delivered in a sticky dirty checkbook. There's a picture of that as well. I didn't even want to touch it, but in order to leave I had to. Thank goodness for pocket size hand sanitizer. I only learned about this place because I recently visited the one in Mount Juliet. The food and drink was exceptionally well at that location. We've lived in the area now for three years. Margarita House was recommended by our realtor. We have enjoyed much great food and drinks with friends and family. Unfortunately, this is the second occasion that we have experienced very unfriendly staff. What should have been an enjoyable dinner/drinks with friends turned into a unpleasant experience, thanks to Evonne, our waitress. We have noticed in our last few visits that not many of the staff ever smile. Fajitas were great! Chips, salsa, and guac were all good too. The skinny margarita had too much orange for my taste but was otherwise good.

We live in Colorado now but when we're in the area we always come back. Compared to the Mexican places at home the food has so much more flavor and the portions are huge and the price is ridiculously low for what you get. I think the bar is set so high in Tennessee for Mexican food that everyone is super critical. I know about other places like Camino Real but I also like this place. read more

Both locations LaVergne and Smyrna service sucks. They drop off your food and check on you 20 minutes later.. food is not that good. Only thing that is good is there salsa. So gave them to many chances. Done with them I'll stick to my OG Mexican spots.. El Rodeo has never failed good service and food is always on point at el rodeo. read more

Now I know there is still no interest in this place. My usual Mexican joint is Camino Real but I was very hopeful that this place would be a close second if not better. Boy was I disappointed. The service was slow. The food was gross and bland. The chips were stale and the salsa tasted like it came out of a jar. I ordered fajitas Texanas and there was no flavor. The flour tortillas were hard, tough, and dry. My husband got the shredded chicken chimichanga. Again, the tortilla was hard,tough, and dry. "Wasted away again in Margarita House - not me - couple of regulars at the bar..." But it was all good...they weren't obnoxious...less so than the man chewing with his mouth open directly in my line of sight... Early evening visit because we hadn't had Tex-Mex in awhile. We had been shopping ALL DAY LONG...well 2 or 3 hours. We have been here before and it was good. I don't know if it was because we hadn't eaten anything since that Egg McMuffin and oval formed potato patty at 9:00 am (don't judge) or if was because we hadn't had Mexican food in so long, but the fajitas were amazing. We used to frequent another restaurant for our fajita fix, but it was starting be come out as grilled onions and peppers and a few strips of meat. These had a perfect balance - heavy on the chicken. The pieces were also more plump and juicy, not stringy slivers - veggies cook perfect - just this side of crunchy - meat and veggies had the perfect amount of char as well. We always order cheese dip and love salsa (theirs is good and spicy, much to my liking!) - so we share a single order of fajitas every time. At the other restaurant I made reference to, I think when couples do that, they intentionally reduce the amount of food on the skillet - to encourage you to order 2 the next time or the double - either that or the waiter snacks on yours while he is waiting for your beans and rice to come out off the kitchen. Atmosphere here is OK - used to be a Burger King, so everything is retro-fitted with a couple of add-on patio dining areas, but the artwork is amazing - or not...your basic south-of-the-border theme - a little dark inside as the fast food windows have been closed up or painted over with bright colors. I would REALLY like to see an economical Mexican restaurant that is decorated a little less gaudy. I'm fine getting my taste of the culture from the food - not the faux stucco and endless paintings of cactus (cacti?). Starting to decline a little in service and aforementioned serving size, but it is still good. Most of the times we eat out we aren't in a huge hurry - well unless we are hangry (hungry/angry)... Their margaritas are good - they should consider some way to promote them better... read more
