Lately though, the experience has shifted in ways that leave me concerned. The staff increasingly comes across as resentful and combative toward patrons. While the pricing remains competitive, the food quality shows clear signs of decline. Most disappointing was discovering they now charge extra for credit and debit card use while pushing customers toward cash only. With more cash flowing through the restaurant, it raises fair questions about how much is properly reported for Tennessee taxes. A quiet audit might bring clarity. Friends wanted Mexican food and we met here for lunch, Camino Real use to be one of our favorite restaurants when it was located in Antioch area. The service was excellent. We were seated immediately. The inside is nice and spacious with booths and tables. You can dine inside or outside on the spacious patio. However, I was disappointed at the food quality. The salsa had an unpleasant flavor. It had a weird tart or sour taste. Needless to say nobody asked for more. The cheese dip was watery, runny and lacked the usual consistency. The fajitas were okay or edible. The chimichangas meat was odd looking and not good. The bill for the lunch specials with sodas and tips was about $20 each. Overall, we were not impressed. We stopped by after a trip to Lowe's across the street since it was such a beautiful early spring day. We chose to sit on the outdoor patio, which was a great option. This Mexican restaurant offers plenty of parking and daily Happy Hour specials. We asked our server if they had a spicier salsa, and they brought out a verde version--it had a nice kick! I ended up mixing it with the regular salsa, which was a great combo. I ordered the Mexican-style tacos and got a mix of meats--chorizo and two steak tacos. The flavors were spot on! I only ended up eating one taco because I was too busy munching on all the chips. If you're visiting on the weekend with a larger party, I recommend arriving early, but there's plenty of seating both inside and outside. Pay attention to your bill. At the end of our meal, the waitress brought us the ticket, I reviewed it and handed her my card and the ticket back. When she brought the receipt for me to sign, it was 10 dollars more than the original ticket. At first I thought maybe I missed about a surcharge for paying by card, but if that was the case why so much. Overall the waitress was not very attentive, we had to ask several times for water. Just ok...We've eaten here a couple times. Tried it again a couple nights ago. Food came out Luke-warm at best. They forgot about my husbands Burrito....waited, waited while my Taco got cold. Camino Real is really my go to Mexican restaurant in the Boro. I love the consistency between the different locations throughout Tennessee. I know I can always get a great meal no matter what I order. My friend had to tell her we ready to order. I ordered grilled jalapeños and tacos. My friend ordered a lunch combo, My grilled jalapeños were brought out 15 mins before my food. When the food arrived my friends food was hot while mine was was cold as if it had been sitting (please note it was barely 3 customers in the restaurant, so it wasn't busy). When I brought it to their attention they just took it off the table and walked away. The few items we kept weren't that good either. $46 for one lunch combo and 2 drinks. Smh!! I am trying different dishes instead of my regular orders and have been pleasantly surprised so far. Today I tried the Molcajete special mixed beef and chicken and it was my first taste of cactus leaf. I should have asked for the pineapple with it also. First off the dish is large enough to share, second it was an amazing combination of flavors. Our server was great. She helped me choose the sauces and peppers to go into my meal. She also made sure our drinks where always full. When I arrived the cashier had her hand in her mouth with her mask down and she was clearly sick. Very good food. Almost did not stop here because of the reviews, but noticed that the negative reviews seemed to mostly be about the service. My group did not have any issues with the service. Our drinks stayed full, food came out hot, and food was correct. The food was good, I got what I usually get when at a Mexican restaurant, fajita burrito. I would say it was the most amazing, but it was very good and there was ALOT of it. The atmosphere is casual. The servers were dressed in button up shirts and ties, they looked very nice. We were hungry and this was the closest restaurant near by so we decided to come here. The server was prompt, but the food is so bad. We ordered 2 quesadilla, 1 order of trio tacos. First off, the salsa that came with free nachos was runny (I think it was over processed by a food grinder) and it had no flavor at all. Then, all the meats are over seasoned. The tacos doesn't look "authentic". The steak was burned and dried. Tacos didn't have the raddish and chopped salsa like I usually had at other Mexican places. The meat was too salty that my friend and I only took 1 bite of the steak Q and 1 bite of the steak taco and couldn't eat anymore. We called the server over and told him about it. He asked if we want them to make a new one but we think it'd probably be the same. We asked for the bill, expecting there'd be only charges for drinks since we couldn't eat the food, but they charged us every thing. We asked for manager but she came out and said my friend was still eating the Q, but in fact she was only talking to the server, complaining about the food and we totally stoped eating when he came out. I told the manager that, so she finally agreed to take the shrimp Q and tacos off. Service and food was great. I sampled a couple of different margaritas while I was there. The blue margarita was my favorite! The green iguana margarita was amazing too, but a little too sweet for my normal taste. Maybe a little less midori in it would have made it perfect! I highly recommend trying them both out! It's difficult to find good Mexican food in the Nashville area, so I've been here a number of times, even driving out of my way to get here... while the food is good and the chips and salsa are delicious, the service is abhorrent. It seems that every time i come here it gets worse than the previous time. I'm a very easy going person and treat the waitstaff well and smile and try to be pleasant since I can imagine how some customers can be. However, in spite of that, the waitstaff doesn't smile and treats you almost as if you're an imposition to them, in fact i feel like they are rushing you the entire time and don't even want you there. Maybe it's just me, i don't know... In addition to their demeanor, they are very inattentive. I've say almost an entire meal with and empty glass in front of me and at times gone so long without seeing my waiter/waitress that i wonder if they decided to quit their job during my visit! At any rate, this will probably be my last time here, so I'm gonna have to find a New Mexican joint around the area when I'm here from now on... and ya a shame because the food is so good. read more

Lackluster Service and Flavorless Food This location of the Camino Real Mexican Restaurant chain has now been open for about three months. The Parking Lot continues to be quite full most days. We visited for a family birthday dinner around 6:30 PM on a Sunday evening. We were looking forward to above average food, based upon their restaurants in other locations, that we have visited for years. We were sorely disappointed. The chips tasted of nothing but old grease. You could even taste it thru the salsa and guacamole. We had no silverware so asked to at least have napkins while eating chips and dips. Eventually got drinks, but no silverware or napkins. They were fairly busy, but no food for over 50 minutes. No server ever checked back during that time to refill drinks or get more chips to go with rhe dip and guacamole. So dip that you paid for, could not be eaten, because rhere were no chips. All the tables in the back were having service issues. Finally a manager came and started doing refills at the table next to us and taking orders etc. Once our food and silverware finally came, we requested drink refills. The server started picking up all the glasses at the same time and carried them away. But did not make fresh drinks, so struggled with which glass came from each person...who had a lemon floating in the glass, who had two, who had none in their tea etc. The food itself was all very bland. The combo fajitas was a large portion. The fajitas steak actually had bones in it, something we have never seen. The chimmichanga was so over fried it shattered into inedible hard shards when cut with a fork, an again had that taste of old grease. The shrimp tacos were perhaps the saddest example I have ever seen or tasted. Just 4 shrimp on a cold veey dried out somewhat rubbery flour tortilla...nothing else...that was a shrimp taco. The rice and beans on everyone's plate was cold. The only thing hot on the entire table were the bony fajitas. No one ever checked back after the food was dropped off. Large skillet of fahitas cant be eaten with just three tortillas between two people, but we never saw a server to get more. I eventually went to the server station to get to-go boxes to box up fahitas that were now cold. We sat there another 15 minutes with food boxed up waiting for someone to bring the checks. During which time, we watched multiple people sitting with empty glades while still eating, and another who went to find a manager to get their check, since they had been sitting staring at empty plates for almost 20 min...everyone in the section could hear how angry he was.
