The restaurant was not busy for Canada Day long weekend. Pricing for lunch is only available Saturday, Sunday and holiday: Adult $35.99 Senior 65+ $28.80 Child 5-10 yrs old $25.20. Note there was 15% service charge added to the bill. The servers brought a whole tray full of meat, seafood and veggies. You can choose which ones you want. The best cut they had were the boneless beef tenderloin. The short ribs were pretty good as well. I found the marinade a bit too salty for my liking. Pineapple is a popular item to throw on the grill. It adds some sweetness to offset all the savory meats. You can also order salad, seaweed salad, miso soup, maki rolls. The Korean banchan consists of kimchi, fried tofu, beam sprouts and edamame. Overall we enjoyed our lunch and the service was attentive and prompt. The soft drinks are refillable. Decided to give this place a chance, but left sorely disappointed. Place is expensive at $40+ a person and the quality of food is not worth the price you are paying at all. They basically use the same marinade for everything and it's also way too salty that I found the meats to be pretty much inedible by round 2/3. Shrimp was pretty tasteless, salmon sushi was tasteless, and the sushi rolls had too much rice. The only thing they had going for them is the 20% off drinks on a Saturday. There's a reason why you can just walk in here and get a seat without reservations or any wait time on a weekend. Man, Chako has been around for a long time now! It used to be a staple place where everyone would go for all you can eat Korean BBQ. Over the past years, as many other competitors opened up - Chako has fallen behind. For the whooping price of $35 per person for dinner, you would expect the quality to be much better. The quality of meat and its appetizers is very sub-par. It's edible and will hit the spot but is not worth it when you are able to get a better experience for the same price elsewhere. The tofu used to be my favourite thing to get but over the years, I'm guessing they changed the recipe or purchased a different brand - but it is now stale and dry. The rice seemed like it was in the rice cooker for too long and was dry when it arrived to the table. Only the beef and short ribs have marinades on it and the only sauces available are soy sauce and sriracha - leaving the rest very bland and not worth ordering. The service was attentive and nice as a 10% service fee is always included in the bill. They were always on top of refilling our water and taking our orders which was nice but the food quality and atmosphere is what really brings tarnishes the place. I came here with a friend after not being here since before the pandemic and the prices have definitely gone up but the service remains great! There was no wait time here on the Thursday evening I went in, while the Gyubee in the same plaza already has a wait time of 1 hour. We were seated right away and within 5 minutes we already had our food ready to be grilled, which was amazing. The servers were super attentive and despite me being one to drink so much water that we usually end up getting the water pitcher brought to our table whenever I go out to eat, my water cup remained pretty much full for the entire meal. Empty plates were taken away really quickly too. The food was exactly how I remembered it pre-pandemic, however the sushi was kind of cold and a tiny bit stale. I don't really recommend getting the fish since it sticks to the grill and is hard to fry properly due to this. The ice cream is different now where they have packaged little Chapman's icecream cups but it was still fine. I came here last night for the first time for the AYCE dinner (usually I only come here for late night). This review is based on my collective experiences as a whole. You can expect the wait times at chako to be decently long at times, especially on a Saturday night. I waited for maybe 50 minutes this time around, and it kind of sucked because by the time we got in they were already doing last call for sushi. So a good tip here is to not come at an awkward in between time like 8:00... either come early for dinner or wait until 10 for late night so your time is maximized. The menu selection is a lot more extensive when you go for dinner, as you can choose from sushi and more meat and veggie kbbq options. Last night the beef was a little off, as it was too thickly sliced for my liking and was super dry... though I've never had problems in the past with their beef. Their kimchi is by far my favourite part about chako ever... I don't know how they prepare their kimchi but there's a bit of a sweet taste to it which is really good... I have yet to discover any other restaurant that makes kimchi as good as them, not even close! Service here was pretty good. Servers were always nearby to cater to needs and came with everything in good time. Our server said what each dish was as he put them down, which I could appreciate. There could be a bit more improvement in little attentive things though, like refilling on water. To sum it up, chako is a great place to come for AYCE kbbq. It's a given that you can't expect as good of quality in beef as a la carte places. For me personally, the variety you get for regular dinner is nice, but I'll likely stick to coming here for late night only, because it feels more worth it. Not my first time going, but's it's been a long time since I've been. The place has a very modern look to it. It has a romantic ambiance, but can also be good for friends. We went in for the late night cheap option. When you compare the full dinner menu to the late night menu, you still get a lot of great options. Highest points: Firstly, the cuts of meat were great. They were cut thicker than usual, but still cooked quickly. Second, the marinade used for the meat was delicious and made the food all that much better. It was a good blend of sweet and savoury. Definitely think that the pork was the best part. Third, the wait staff was kind and welcoming. Even though it was a late night, they were still walking around with smiles and helpful. Know how much u can eat before ordering** The only concern i have are the stoves, they get over heated too quickly. Me and my friend have switched more than 8 stoves throughout the meal. The stove gets black and chakcoy easily, which aren't the best thing for health. Every time they switch a stove, a huge black smoke goes along with them. My god-brother loves AYCE, but he had a more expensive one in mind whereas my beau and I both have not been here since March 2018. For all you can eat Korean Grill it was one of my favourites! They have a large selection with veggies and SUSHI which was much appreciated. The service was efficient and welcoming. Food 4/5 - The food was delicious! The meats were fresh and tasty, nothing had a strange smell to it. I really enjoyed the lamb you do not see that very often. I enjoyed the grilled veggies and pineapple! The sushi was average, but still, most Korean Grill places do not offer sushi so it is a plus. The place is a little bit pricey. The food presentation was great however there is only limited options for meat selections. Only one chicken and pork option I think and the rest is beef. The salmon was sticking to the grill when it should be in the same container as the corn and should come with butter for taste. The california roll and spicy salmon roll I ordered is not so great either its because the rice that was used was probably overcooked making the texture too soft. The miso soup is fine, it was tasty and hot. The overall food taste for me is 2 out of 5. I wish the beef were cut into thinner portions to cook faster and that it has more taste. I am so mad that I really was about to give this restaurant a one star review, but one star reviews are dedicated to the absolute lowest of the low and while this was definitely one of the worst experiences I have ever had, the food was average and I can't have one part of the overall experience dictate the entire experience. The waiter and waitress were also very friendly to my little brother. They were also able to attend to our orders very quickly. Summary: poor ventilation and very bad food quality. After dining at Chako a few times and being disappointed each time, I've finally realized that it's not a good restaurant and I will not ever be returning. First, the ventilation is really bad in here. The whole place is really smokey and you will come out smelling like smoke and bbq. Most importantly, some of the food is REALLY bad. Like the sushi - don't get it. It's inedible. The rice is disgusting. I know they're not a sushi restaurant but it should at least be edible. Overall the meats are low quality and are not well seasoned. Even worse, the grills are poor quality. Heat distribution is bad, the grill type is prone to burning. They supposedly oil the grill and what you see is a weird substance bubbling on the grill's surface. It's just all very questionable. If you must come here I will at least share what little good there is: the sides, short ribs, mussels, salmon, and shrimp. We also enjoyed the mushrooms and pineapples. It has your standard beef, fish and chicken cuts of meat, along with other items such as fish, shrimp and other seafood choices. The beef ribs tend to be a standout of the items we ordered. There is more selection on dinner and weekend dinner menus with the price adjusted accordingly. Its not really high quality cuts of meat but at this price point its reasonable for what you pay. The good thing is that the marinated meats are lightly seasoned and not too salty like many AYCE joints. They also have some simple sushi rolls with quality that is similar to what you find in the supermarket aisles in case you want something different. The matcha and mango ice cream were really bad though and partially melted already when you get them. Service was really good as the servers are constantly walking around and quite pleasant which is always a bonus. They charge 10% service charge but the servers emphasize you can tip more if you want. Went to this location with my girlfriend and another friend I before this, I hadn't heard the greatest things about this location. However, it's still KBBQ, at the end of the day. We got there the person at the front desk seemed really annoyed at something I really didn't understand it. She eventually sat us, but she really didn't seem like she wanted to do any work - and this was only at 5:00pm too. Our servers were eventually Michael and Nicole and both were decent. Customer service was the reason I was told to be careful about going here and while it wasn't super, it wasn't a reason to avoid it. The only really annoying part was when we were clearly done and neither of them checked on us for a solid 15 minutes after. Meats were as good as other Chako locations with no complaints. Grills were watered down / replaced at a nice pace and most everything we ordered came at a reasonable time. I forget what the price was, but I'm pretty sure it was the same as other Chako places - but they really gotta ditch their service fee to force people into a "tip". It's not a tip if it's not optional and when it's not optional, they really could just roll it into their dinner fee. But we were near the end of our enjoyable dinner, so we were in high spirits. If he'd served us from the beginning, our experience would've been different. You basically order meats, seafood and vegetables to grill on the sunken gas grill set in your table. There's also lots of side dishes and sushi to choose from too. The best meats for me were the chicken(dark meat) and the ox tongue. But there wasn't anything wrong with the other meats, the only meat we didn't order was pork. The sushi rolls were fine.
