Venue space for baby shower gathering
    Janice Y.

I visited here for a baby shower recently this weekend. It's a central spot smack in the middle of GTA between highway 407 and 400 next to the Costco with a gas station. It's a perfect place for a large gathering especially if you have people coming west, east, south and maybe even out of town as there is plenty of parking. The place is spacious, modern and uncrowded so you can easily set up a spot for a balloon arch. The service is also really nice and friendly. I've been to the Colossus area many times before but never thought to stop by at this restaurant. I didn't even know they have an option for all you can eat until I visited recently. For All-You-Can-Eat weekend lunch it was about $30~ according to their site, which is really reasonable considering prices these days. It included sushi and sashimi and it was pretty fresh and some kitchen items too. Their cooked dishes for AYCE is kinda big so I didn't get to try as many things. However, from the few I've tried including nibbling their sample appetizers, tempura and other items it's pretty good. If you want to be adventurous, they even have escargot too! The escargot was buttery and not too salty. The Pad Thai is a more Canadian/Americanized version with a bit of tang from the ketchup but still tasty regardless. The staff was nice and friendly and we didn't really feel rushed out as it didn't seem too busy. We booked from 1-3:30pm/4pm. I think it's a great spot to host your special gathering and also allow your guests to choose whatever they want to eat. The only thing is they punch all your orders for you on the ipad and we don't get to punch it in ourselves. I feel like the physical menu they showed us for all you can eat is much more limited than what we can actually order. So definitely ask your server and see what else there is. For example there wasn't any dessert menu so you have to ask about all the desserts. They will offer ice cream by default but definitely recommend getting a fried banana and sesame ball with it.

Parking is ample. The restaurant has a wonderful ambiance and serves both all you can eat and a la carte. Today I went to try their a la carte menu at 11.99 a plate. Half the menu is crossed out but there is still a good variety of Thai and Japanese options. Bangkok pad Thai - tasted like ketchup. Good amounts of chicken and tofu, but extremely salty and sweet. Basil beef - I don't actually know what the difference is between black pepper beef and basil beef. There is good amounts of meat and the rice comes in a bowl, slightly wetter and softer than expected. Very salty as well. Overall, looking at the other people's tables, the Japanese buffet options looked alright. However the dishes I've had were mediocre at best.

A pretty good sushi restaurant! They have both all-you-can-eat and a-la-carte options. We chose a la carte because we wanted some items that were not available in the AYCE menu. All the food was wonderful and delicious, the decor was beautiful and the waiters were wonderful as well!

I like the place overall and the food. I would rate 7.5/10. The taste was good. We were 5 ppl and order lots of dishes to try. My personal fav was Unagi and Ebi. Couple of things that i would like to suggest; if we can have pictures of the dishes on the menu, that will be great help. Also while serving, if we were told what is being served we won't eat each other's food

    * Great atmosphere, nicely decorated. **** * Servers were very attentive, except 1 in blue stripe shirt, just total ignorance; And at the end we have to wait for 20 minutes before server come back to take desert orders. I think they under staffed ***1/2* * Food selection is reasonable; many Thai dishes, good job there. They should add more seafood and veggies in grill section, like pike- mackerel and grilled eggplant...And the should add red-bean ice-cream **** Overall ****

SPECIAL COVID-19 EDITION REVIEW: SAFETY PRACTICES, PROTOCOLS AND MORE. OPEN DURING COVID-19. (Stage 3 of the province of Ontario reopening) This place has always had a patio, so this isn't a patio that was built during COVID and for COVID. I give credit where credit is due and it seems like customer service has improved a little. We requested a table for four for a little more room. They said they wouldn't accommodate this request, as they can't on that day. However, there were quite a few empty tables from the time we arrived to the time we left. Customer service may have improved a little (this is also possibly because traffic may be down due to COVID, so with less people, they're able to concentrate better). However, towards the end of the meal (keep reading to find out what happened) and food quality with respect to sashimi and sushi rolls has declined a lot. AYCE sushi still available. Temperature check before seating, signs requiring masks are put up on the front door. I've always wondered why there is an accessibility button on the inside but not the outside. Would be nice to see one on the outside for folks who require it. -1 star, folks should be treated equally. I've noticed this before but always forgot to put it in my reviews. Menus are in between glass on the table. Salmon sashimi wasn't fresh at all, seaweed salad tasted about the same, too much dressing (as I've noted in previous reviews of this place). Oil fish sashimi was average. Beef was undercooked very bad, unable to eat it. Service was okay, when I was running out of water and needed a refill, someone did come by and refill it. All the fried stuff tasted the same, nothing new there. Edamame wasn't too bad, calamari was a little too chewy, rolls had extremely little to no salmon, overall the variety hasn't really changed but the quality definitely took a bit of a toll but during COVID. Other AYCE restaurants have much better quality for the time being. Was a regular pre-COVID and was given a VIP card. Gave my VIP card to the server, unfortunately she didn't know what it was. Took a while to get the bill (15 mins to half an hour, which is unacceptable) and they wanted to take my VIP card away (sort of like a coupon, I think) but I told them usually I show it and it's not a one time use kinda thing. Server looked visibly upset after asking management whether to take it or not and angrily put our VIP card on the table without saying anything before we left. Extremely disappointed considering we've spent quite a bit there over the past decade, not only has the quality of food declined significantly (see RECENT pictures) but we're told our loyalty isn't worth anything anymore to the restaurant. This upset us but our experience definitely didn't leave us wanting to come back anyways. Even with a generous tip, after the server was pissed off about the card, the server didn't say anything as we left. - Missed the ball in a quite a few places, there's still A HELL OF A LOT to improve on. - Food quality has SIGNIFICANTLY DECLINED. - Customer service has improved a little bit. Temp check is good Service was okay (until the end where it took a turn - customer service) Overall, 1.5/5 EDIT: Recently I've had a chance to finally try another sushi ayce during covid and finally have something to compare the sparkly experience to. I'd have to say that the very thin salmon sashimi and almost no salmon on the rolls.. the food quality has drastically declined (see pics) and I have to change my rating to a 1.5.

Just loving the atmosphere here…read more As for the food, don't expect it to be a "traditional Izakaya" here, but that's not a bad thing. They do the "traditional" dishes with a twist / fusion. For example, the black cod is usually feel heavy with the miso based sauce, but they added some acidity to the sauce and they made the black cod taste rich and light (not to mention the black cod was perfectly cooked); traditionally the Brussels Sprouts would be finished by tossing balsamic vinegar over it. Sometimes that would still feel heavy. Instead, they tossed it with strawberry vinaigrette. So the acidity is very light and not too sweet. We finished our meal with the Yokai Signature Maki. Yes, they SHOULD be proud of this Maki enough to put their name on it. They hit it on the nail with the taste profile. I have a zero tolerance with spiciness, so they put the spicy mayo on the side, and I encouraged my wife to dip the Maki with it. She confirmed my suspicion that the spicy mayo took the maki to another level. We definitely will come to try other dishes. Edit: they comped us a slice of Matcha Cheesecake. While it is still not my cup of tea, but I was very impressed with how good it taste. My "dislike" is with cheesecakes because they feel heavy. Though it is still on the heavy side for me, but as soon as I spoon in a bit of the strawberry sauce, it just lightened up the whole thing. They have successfully amazed me with how well they play with taste.

We were also informed it would take about 20 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 40-45 minutes due to the lunchtime rush. Totally understandable though, and the manager was very apologetic and even gave us a $5 coupon for our next visit along with our box. When the food arrived, the presentation of the tasting box was absolutely WOW.. it was so beautifully done. We were honestly just too hungry at that point to admire it for long. Unfortunately, I noticed the first roll I picked still had cucumber in it, and when we flagged it, the staff immediately looked into it. It turned out there was a miscommunication about the substitution, and most of the rolls in the box had cucumber. The manager personally came over, apologized, explained everything, and immediately took care of it by offering to remake the box without cucumber and providing a full refund, which really went above and beyond. Despite the hiccup, the service and care from the team really stood out. Mistakes happen, especially during busy lunch hours, but the way the team responded made a big difference. I wasn't expecting the gold leaf OR edible flower garnish at all. It was a very cute touch on this very snowy day. The oshi sort of fell apart everytime I picked it up which was a shame because it was nicely charred and sweet from the mango. Bit of a personal peeve but I don't think sushi should fall apart when you pick it up with a chopstick. I think it should stay in tact. The moment you walk in, one detail that stood out to me was the Mahayana Buddhist altar blessing the owner and visitors with health and prosperity. As a Taiwanese person, that instantly felt relatable and oddly comforting--like being welcomed into someone's home. Although the restaurant is Vietnamese-owned, the Japanese food here is absolutely top-notch. I've visited three times so far, and the quality of their bento boxes has been impressively consistent every single time. My personal favorite is the chicken katsu bento. The chicken is incredibly fresh and flavorful. Unlike many places where chicken katsu can end up greasy or heavy, Ikigai's version is perfectly crispy and airy on the outside while staying juicy and tender inside. Paired with their tangy, addictive katsu sauce, every bite just makes you want the next one immediately. I'm also a big fan of their maki rolls and tempura. You can genuinely taste the care and quality in the food--even the side salad and miso soup feel thoughtfully prepared. Considering the quality, the prices are very reasonable, and the portions are generous. The bento box is around $20 if you pay cash, which feels like a great deal. The space itself is cozy, spotless, and welcoming, and the service has always been excellent. I genuinely love this place and will definitely keep coming back.

We also added a hamachi carpaccio just for more more protein for my SO because he thinks it might not be enough, but we were left super full. I love that the sushi wasn't loaded with rice and it was thinly included, we did mention that we usually don't like that much and the server said they can even adjust the rice content in the sushi.... We didn't confirm to adjust it but perhaps they went with it because rice is perfectly thin in the maki and less than usual for a nigiri, which is great because otherwise I don't know if we would have finished the meal. $5 to upgrade to brown rice for the sushi set that didn't have that much rice is still IMO a bit steep.
