Gyumanor is inside the super busy FMP plaza. It's always hard to find parking in this plaza, especially during meal times on weekdays and pretty much all day on weekends. We made a reservation for one of the private rooms on a weekday. It was surprisingly not busy at all. Our food arrived very quickly each time we ordered, and they came to check on us multiple times and to change out the grill. It is AYCE but there are some items that cost extra. The menu has a good amount of variety yet it is not overwhelming. Lots of different meats to choose from, plus sushi as well. The torched sushi was my favourite! Came here for a lunch with my girl friends changing our plans from hotpot to this. Found it from an IG influencer that was going kind of viral. Their lunch menu was around $28 and honestly there wasn't much selection at all so we decided to go with the dinner menu instead for around $36. They also have this $3 off using fantuan app and nfc tap or 5% off cash payment. Not gonna lie, the food wasn't so great, not much selection, the beef was not bad. Their marination was really just cumin (not a fan). They have garlic / miso, not bad. Lots of thin beef which is good. I find other locations are definitely better for beef. Chicken was okay too. The fish is only salmon, there's shrimp. Sushi was the worst, there was only salmon and just some California roll with salmon on top for example. I really expected more sushi selections. Appetizers are mostly self served, sauces and desserts. Lunch time was not at all busy. There were a total of maybe 5-6 tables and there are quite a lot of seats available, definitely NOT busy. We got approached for last call not even 1h in our seating. We were shocked and confused but then she said she made a mistake that because we decided on dinner menu, we get 1.5h. So she left then another staff overheard and told us 2h for dinner menu, no problem. Then after 30mins the same one initially came back and said last call. Not a fan. We tried this place as a girls date. It's a new AYCE Japanese BBQ place at First Markham Place. We went for a Saturday lunch and while the restaurant itself wasn't that busy, the parking was brutal. Ambiance: 3.75/5 - typical Japanese BBQ set up. They have a main dining room, 2 VIP rooms plus 1 room off to the side with several tables and seats. We were seated in this room. Service: 3.75/5 - I was able to secure a reservation very easily. I called the day before. I was seated quickly. I had to ask them for the menu. It is QR code scanning but they have to set it up for the table. I wanted to check out both menus - for lunch and dinner before making a decision on which menu to go with. It's easier to ask for service when they come to drop off food or clear the dishes. Otherwise, it's hard to catch their attention when you are seated in the room. Food: 3/5 - the food is ok but not a wide variety of dishes in both lunch and dinner menus. The main difference is that they don't offer shrimp in the lunch menu and less sushi choices. We ordered a bunch of their beef, pork and lamb. The only flavours that shines through is the cumin cubed lamb. The rest of the marinated beef don't seem to add much flavor (garlic, miso). Came here on a Friday night.. was a bit hard to find parking, but that's ok. It wasn't busy when we came and was fairly quiet inside, which was really nice. The food is not salty and they leave salt for you to salt it yourself to your liking! I really loved that because it didn't make me want to drink gallons of water! They have a 5% cash discount, so bring your cash... I know I'll definitely come back here because everything was really good! My rating sits somewhere between 3.5 or 4 out of 5 stars. I'd say like 3.8 or 3.9 stars. Visited this resto last night for my buddy's bday dinner. The resto occupies the spot that Firefly Cafe used to be in (next to Gol's Lanzhou Noodles). Decor is very pretty. Granite tops and walls. The washrooms are also very clean and well stocked. We had 16 ppl in our dining party and we were given a side dining room w/ multiple grills (3 tables w/ 1 grill that sat 4 and 1 table w/ 2 grills that sat 6). Our waitress was extremely attentive. She kept double checking the kitchen to make sure we got our orders and constantly changed out our grills (I forgot to ask for her name but she was young). Now on to the dining. First off, the grills have 3 heat settings. I found myself manually tinkering w/ the heat control when cooking a lot of the thinner or fattier slices because the flames would climb quite fast and high for those meats. Sometimes we'd have to turn off the heat completely just to prevent massive flare ups haha. My 2 fave cuts would have to be the premium short ribs (boneless) and the secret beef belly (which basically uses a special chef's marinade). The premium short ribs were marbled well. While the food was pretty solid overall, I would have to say it doesn't crack my top 3 places for jbbq. Overall slightly less selection, flavour and marbling of meat compared to Gyu Hito, Shinta or Gyubee (Gyu hito has ribeye steak and Gyubee has the most meat selection). I will say they give Matsuda good head to head but Matsuda's selling point is their giant scallops and tiger prawns imo which this place doesn't have (they have small shrimps and no scallops). They've only been open 2 months so I think with a couple adjustments/improvements (increase meat, seafood and dessert selection a lil more and use a bit more seasoning/marinade for some of the cuts) they could become a worthy jbbq stalwart in the markham area. They told us there'd be a 2 hour seating time but they let us dine past the alloted time to let us get our fill of food and they did not pressure us at all which was nice of them. Visited Gyumanor Japanese BBQ at the First Markham Place plaza on a Saturday evening with my mom and boyfriend. We got there around 6pm and were told the wait would be about an hour, which honestly already felt pretty reasonable compared to most AYCE spots. We just walked around the plaza while waiting and ended up getting a call around 6:30pm saying our table was ready, so the wait was shorter than expected. Our table ended up being inside one of the VIP rooms, but it was actually a shared table split between two groups. Each side had its own grill which was good, but the actual table space felt pretty limited once food started arriving. It was manageable, just a little cramped for 3 people. You ordered through a QR code which made things pretty easy. They also have two self serve stations with appetizers and desserts. One thing that surprised me was the amount of sushi they offer for an AYCE BBQ place. There were torched sushi, pressed sushi, and different maki rolls. No sashimi though, just something to keep in mind. The sushi was actually not bad for AYCE. For the meats, we tried a bit of everything. The prime short ribs and beef tongue were definitely the highlights for us. Those were the ones we kept ordering more of. The pork neck/jowl ended up being mostly fat for our liking. Overall the meat quality was decent, although some cuts could have used a bit more flavor and the portion sizes were not always consistent. The grill worked better than I expected. It didn't look like there was much of a flame going on, but it got pretty hot and cooked everything well. The ventilation was also surprisingly good. We went in fully expecting to leave smelling like BBQ, but our clothes barely smelled at all. Dessert was a bit hit or miss. Like other reviewers have mentioned, the creme brulee (called "pudding" on the menu) is probably not something I would get again. It reminded me of those vanilla pudding cups you can buy at the grocery store. They also had ice jelly, a self serve ice cream station, and some fried desserts. The sesame balls were fried to order and came out piping hot, which was nice. Service was just okay, but it was also a busy Saturday dinner rush. Since we were seated inside the VIP room it was a little harder to flag someone down unless they walked past. There was a call button on the wall, but because we were sharing the table with another group and sitting closer to the door, we didn't really want to keep reaching across and bothering them. They also offer a 5 percent discount if you pay cash. Overall, for close to $50 per person you do get a pretty wide spread of meats, sushi, plus the self serve appetizer and dessert bar. Would I come back? Probably, especially for the variety. I would just hope for a regular table next time and not a shared one. read more

Service is FAST and the food comes out shortly after ordering. Clean up, changing the grill, and water service was amazing. The meats are quality, sushi is good, and the appetizers are good. I tried this relatively new Japanese all-you-can-eat BBQ grill spot yesterday, and overall, it was just okay. For the price, I definitely think there are better options elsewhere as of now. About $55 including $8 discount on a Thursday (you can get $1-3 off per person through rock paper scissors). The seating was comfortable and spacious, and there were some nice amenities in the washroom though the toilet buttons weren't working. Table ventilation was okay, and the salmon sushi, longanisa, beef ribs, beef rib meat, beef tendon, and chicken cartilage stood out for me. I also enjoyed the costco french fries, deep fried capelin fish and takowasabi. That said, the experience had drawbacks. Ordering is done through a QR code, which the website was clunky at times, and we had about 4 rounds oforders that were missed entirely. The staff seemed inexperienced and had to often ask each other for answers. Food quality was inconsistent where some meat cuts were thin, others tough or overly fatty, leading to crazy fire that burned the food. The crème brûlée (labelled pudding) was disappointing, too soft with uneven torching. Drinks came with strange pearls that didn't taste good and clogged the straw, and even simple requests like hot water resulted in room temperature water. On top of that, the images from their QR menu felt misleading compared to what actually arrived. Also worth keeping in mind: their Google reviews are definitely skewed by discounts offered in exchange for ratings, (the table next to ours sent 5 stars before even eating) so the stars don't fully reflect reality. read more

My first time here for their AYCE lunch for soft opening. I like the decor inside the restaurant, bright and trendy. We started ordering and didn't expect much, but turns out all the food are fresh and lightly marinated unlike the other Japanese bbq all you can eat place, which I LOVE! Here are the list I think it's a MUST order: - popcorn chicken (lightly battered) - original beef belly - beef tongue (I like it thin slice) - pork belly - kimchi - clam with wine (fresh and light) - crispy skin (you don't find it in many places) ! This All You Can Eat Japanese BBQ restaurant just had it's grand opening recently between Aug 29 and I visited on Aug 30th. The decora were modern, pretty and a dark luxury theme. They even have VIP rooms for small gather parties with privacy. Free complimentary tea (jasmine tea) which is a nice touch to the overall dining experience. They offer appetizers, deep fried snacks, beef, pork, chicken, lamb, seafood, main dish (carbs) and dessert. They also have drinks for additional charge. Lots of variety to choose from their menu. My top picks are the Hokkaido smoked beef, New Orleans chicken wings, cold noodle, sweet sausage, deep fried fish fillet in honey mustard and deep fried mushroom. Overall meat quality is so so in my opinion. 3.5 out of 5 would be my honest review. I've visited other AYCE Japanese BBQ restos and their meat quality is definetely better but can't complain for the price. I strongly recommend parking by WinCo Supermarket and walking over. It's just a quick 2 minute walk and it beats trying to find parking and trying to leave later. Party of 2 on a Thursday night. Easy to make reservations and glad we did. Someone reserved half the store for a party and they had a microphone so it was really crowded and loud. The staff had to apologize to us as we were leaving. Service overall was good but ambiance/experience was poor because of that party. Food itself was alright. The meats are a bit tasteless and dry though I enjoyed their soup and apps. They also give you a melona bar for dessert. Overall, 6/10... Would rather go to Gyubee. Came here with coworkers after we went to play across the street at trapped. On a Sunday afternoon around 4:30 it wasn't busy. The food was ok but I think the marinade could be better. Our stove was always giving us trouble and trying to get the server's attention was not easy. The bathroom however had heated seats which was nice on a winters day. Very mediocre. We visited as a table of four on a Thursday around 6 PM and there was no wait. I was worried that it would be busy since they had a grand opening special, so I tried to call in for a reservation earlier in the day. No one answered the phone and I was sent to voicemail every time. The restaurant itself feels very new and I really like the dark green vibes with the tables. The table itself was kind of small. They had sauces at the end of the table, a fire extinguisher and the grill itself. Once you factor in all of these items and four plates, there is little room left to places the dishes. If you enjoy ordering a large order of cooked and raw foods, it'll be difficult to separate the dishes and the space will feel cramped. The food itself was ok. They had some good choices between the beef short ribs, beef slices, pork belly, chicken cartilage, chicken wings, clams, salmon, shrimp, among other dishes. However, the options felt very generic and it didn't feel like there was anything that was offered to put them apart from other jbbq restaurants. I was particularly disappointed in the pineapple as they gave us a raw piece and it was sour and not juicy at all. The service was alright and they have some things to brush up on since they are a new establishment. The server asked us to remove all the meats from our grills (all of which were raw and not ready to be consumed) and place it on a plate that had previously held raw beef, so that they could replace the grill. It would have made more sense to wait for our food to be cooked and give us advanced notice to stop adding new items to the grill rather than changing it in the middle of food still being cooked. They also missed a couple rounds of orders, but that is not surprising since this tends to happen at ayce restaurants. This place only has so many good reviews because they had a promotion during their grand opening to receive a $1 drink if they post on Google, Yelp, or mention them on Instagram. Three boys at the table beside us gave them a 5 star review before they had even ordered their food. The drink itself is not worth the $5.99/$6.99 that they are charging. The aesthetics are incredibly satisfying with the dried fruit and flowers but the taste was empty. I got the calamansi juice for posting on Instagram and it felt like watered down juice with edible pearls at the bottom of the drink which only impeded the consumption since they were clogging the paper straw. Overall, if you want jbbq then you can visit this restaurant but there are other places that charge a similar price and may offer a better experience. There's also a lot of food options around FMP so it wouldn't be my top choice in the plaza. read more

Came here for lunch ayce at 11:30am. The food came out quickly, the quality is not bad considering it is $30 ayce with a variety of meat. My favourite was the Hokkaido beef. They need to turn up the heat in the restaurant. Our entire table were so cold and there were people wearing their winter jackets bbqing. My feet were cold the entire time, I don't think they can rely on ambient heat from the stove. The ladies washroom both stalls did not have locks at all so you need to hold the door.
