I'm not sure whether they were having an off day as some reviews here are glowing while others aren't, but I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. My friends and I showed up for our reservation and nobody came to to the host stand for about 15 minutes. Mind you, the staff was standing at the bar not helping customers. When we were finally seated for our reservation before noon, we were told the mimosa tower was unavailable because the "chef that cuts the fruit is unavailable". This was odd a, because it was before the typical brunch rush and b, the fruit didn't look specially cut so we were confused. Our food all came out cold and each of us was missing at least one component of our meal. My friend and I ordered two mimosas which took 20 minutes to come out. I don't ever complain about food service or my dining experiences because at the end of the day, we're dealing with other humans who have stuff going on, so you're bound to experience poor service from time to time. Fabulous food in a ski in ski out Colorado themed new Chicago eatery. We had several very unique appetizers of tuna and duck confit. Then salads and sandwiches that were full of flavor and as hearty as you would want after a day on the slopes. The upstairs bar follows the trail to a peak complete with Shot Skis and an icicle chandelier plus a real chairlift chair. Wearing furry boots is completely appropriate at Chalet. read more

I had to order something else and ended up ordering the skillet with a different type of meat since I can't eat bison meat. We ordered the Acai bowl, Nutella and strawberry pancakes as well as the $55 mimosa tower (price at time of dine 6/22) which was all great in my opinion. I really really want to like this place. I've been coming for drinks and dinner since it opened. It was a welcome addition to the food scene in the area and the ambiance and service were and still are excellent. But. The food has been worse everytime I've visited since it opened. - The burger is just ok and has some odd accompaniments (arugula on a burger smh) - I've ordered the calamari five or more times and it is ALWAYS overcooked. I've probably had calamari at most of the places in River North and this is among the worst. Unless you like tough, rubbery calamari? I don't know, do you I guess. - the shrimp skewers are great but they literally give you three. - Chicken skewers and beef skewers are decent - weak mac n Cheese (definitely not "culture-friendly" mac and cheese) - that's not how you make poutine. The single greatest thing on the menu was the short ribs. Absolutely phenomenal and hands down the best I've had without making them at home. They took them off the menu. Just, f-- why? No, I won't be just as happy with the veal chop. Great for drinks. Excellent management team. Never been for brunch. read more

VERY UNDERWHELMING AND OVERHYPED. I went for brunch with my friend this past Sunday. The champagne tower was not worth it. The fruit was dry and warm. The display was clearly broken and glued together badly it's not worth $55. FOOD: Got the lemon pepper wings. They were super salty and not appetizing. It took forever to come out along with the champagne tower. VIBES: We also sat next to a super loud/obnoxious table. The host was with them the entire time and all they did was scream nonstop. Worst dining experience I've had in a long time. If I could leave no stars I would but you have to post a star to post the review. Walked in during a rain storm a couple months ago. There was NO ONE ELSE IN THE ENTIRE PLACE! A nice (at the time) young man (server / manager?) came over and welcomed us and offered drinks. We ordered and they arrived quickly. We chatted and decided what to order. 1 cheeseburger, 1 fried chicken sandwich and Caesar salad. Pretty simple order. After a lengthy wait, the cheeseburger arrived. Looked and tasted good! Shortly after that the Caesar salad arrived. Assumed that the fried chicken sandwich would follow quickly after. 5 minutes went by and no chicken sammy. I waved to the server and he came over and looked at me as if he wasn't sure why I would wave him over. I asked if my chicken sammy was coming soon. He said it would be just a couple more minutes. Didn't apologize for the delay. At this point my date was half way thru her burger. Another 5 minutes go by and no chicken sammy! I waved to him again and he came over and I said "I'd really like to eat my dinner with my companion". To which he replied in a snotty way.... "the food comes out when it's ready!" A group of friends and I came here for brunch and were so disappointed in the staff and service that we literally had to ask them to cancel our order so we could leave. The place was pretty empty for a Saturday at 1230(prime brunch time) and we were seated right away. Our server took our drink order right away. About 20 minutes later she came to take our food orders, and when we asked about our drinks she said they'd be right up. Well, 20 minutes later we still didn't have them! The craziest thing is that we were sitting at a booth RIGHT NEXT to the bar, so we could see the bartender NOT making our drinks. It was extremely frustrating, especially because after we asked the first time, there was no communication between the server and the bartender to prioritize getting us our order. A standout place! The food was SO YUM and the drinks were amazing too. If there is anything on the menu you need to look forward to is the duck fat fried poutine. The first time I came was to watch the super bowl, my friend and I sat in the booths behind the bar and had a lovely experience. This might be the best espresso martini ever had! The crowd in this place is definitely River North I was a little suspect! Haha I kid. But seriously, the guy behind the bar makes great drinks! This place has 2 bars upstairs/downstairs. We were up and they remove the bar stools at a certain point. Maybe 10 pm? I don't remember. Didn't stick around for the club but cool spot. Decor themed in a ski house cabin type vibe. The chandeliers are like icicles which is pretty cool. Noticed some people doing shots off of an actual ski. Yup. Best part is the security guy asked me to get up when they were removing the bar stools. I joked and said I'm old I need this thing, he goes I'm older than you bro! Oh really... found out he was in his 30's . I got him by like 10 years! This made my friend laugh as I must still look young? Good day for me! 2020 took away a lot from our world and included among that was Farmhouse, the best pretty good neighborhood restaurant in the western part of River North. Chalet came and people were pretty excited - we don't need much more than some good drinks and good food close to home. And - to be honest - the food and drinks aren't terrible. This said, we went there at 6 pm on a Saturday for dinner and already, some private event had bass pounding upstairs to the point where it was louder than the music downstairs (which was tasteful enough) and far louder than human conversation. I've never had a "we must leave here now" feeling outside of a show but for sure, I had one there. From what I heard from the staff, the investors who funded the restaurant were there when we ate and they darn should have known that the party upstairs - which they appeared to go to - made their restaurant truly horrible for everyone else. How you run a space at dinner and how you run it at 2 am really, truly can be different. That's how restaurants/bars in major cities have been run for oh, a century or so. We had our kids with us and they liked the food. But as we left, they made us promise to never go back because they too were traumatized by the bass. We aren't some precious family - we are city people who like fun. And we hope someday soon a new place comes into the Chalet space and keeps the food but runs it in a way considerate of the folks who pay to eat there and probably the staff there as well - it had to be painful being there for them, too. It's a shame what they did to a nice restaurant space where throwing the ball over the plate would make folks reasonably successful. But they won't be and we won't be back until someone else takes over the space. read more
