My daughter has wrapped up her first year of preschool and I'm happy to report that everything I said a year ago held true about the administrators and then some. I don't think I could have asked for better teachers than Ms. Julie and Ms. Vichiny for the care and support they have shown not only my daughter, but all of the students in classroom 101 last year. Special thanks to Ms. Elly and Ms. Francesca for all they did to keep the momentum going throughout the summer too! As for the substantive education my daughter received, all I can say is that it was great watching her grow this past year thanks in large part to Challenger. The quality of education here is wonderful. Their well-rounded curriculum not only balances your child's core subjects with art, Spanish, play time (there's a lot of play time, especially during extended care :)), and of course, nap time, but it is done in a seemingly fun way--the Challenger way. My daughter loves singing their songs so much I ended up buying the Challenger Phonics Fun set that included songs that I digitized so I can play them in the car for her on our drives. It's a nice break from the Disney stuff, and includes video lessons to help her take what she was taught in her classroom back home with her. I'm happy to say we're back for kindergarten and after my daughter's first day (which I was nervous about), she alleviated my nerves when I picked her up and told me how much fun she had with Ms. Henderson and Ms. Wheatley. I was a bit intimidated by their academic standards for preschoolers - My thoughts initially were "they're expected to learn all that by when?!" Midway through the year, my thoughts were "He can read all that?!" Play is extremely important at this age, and Challenger makes learning really fun for the kids. My kid actually gets mad at me for picking him up early, a sentiment that several other parents have also shared. After understanding how well our son retains the information based on Challenger's teaching methods, I am a believer. The classrooms are spacious and bright, the program is organized and clear, the staff are professional and friendly. We haven't had to deal with screens in the classroom, which is a huge plus for us. We are so grateful for such wonderful teachers (shout out to Ms. Julie!!). The front office staff are knowledgeable and nice, Ms. Hailey is on TOP of everything, but also very understanding and informative. I am always impressed how they remember all the students' and siblings' names, how they know which students are whose, and how organized and patient the staff is. Adding this part on a little late, but I really appreciate how there aren't any surprise fees, mandatory fundraisers or donation drives, supplies fees, its-a-hot-day fee, etc. Some programs are vague or sudden about parental donations and involvement which make work/life/school schedules hard to plan and keep. Ultimately, parents just want kids to be safe and happy - and competent. Challenger has done that and more for our kids. Most parents that we've met here are on the same page in terms of values. I cannot express how much this school means to me. To be able to drop off your beloved child and know that they are left in the best hands is worth its weight in gold. If I could give this school six stars I would. From the front office with Ms Hailey, Kelley, Melissa and the teachers we have met like Ms Ashley, Ms Loralynn, Ms Francesca and Ms Elly, they have all been spectacular and exceeded expectations. We sent our son here and another campus for 3-4 year old preschool. Let me say this: if your child is an average, cookie cutter kid then they will likely do spectacularly. This school is NOT for gifted children. They take average kids and elevate them. That's what they do. My son has been reading (and I do mean reading, not mimicking or parroting) since 2.5. They made him relearn his ABCs, 123s, shapes, and colors two years in a row. Because all of their years of preschool are the exact same thing. Any child would act out having to relearn the same thing over and over especially when it was something they came into school already knowing. And tuition is definitely on the pricier side. So we wasted thousands of dollars to have our son sent home half the time and develop a fear/hatred/aversion to school before the age of 5. So yeah, if your kid is any sort of gifted send them elsewhere. They do not make any sort of exception or let them move forward. They are big on "no special treatment " which ends up being a whole lot like the no child left behind program which means your smart kid is stuck with the lowest common denominator. read more

We have 2 sons, 5 and 12, both of whom went to Challenger Desert Hills. Our experience has been nothing short of amazing. Prior to Challenger our boys attended Goddard, Coronado Prep, Hand In Hand, Creative Kids, Kiddie Academy and Shenker. At each location we we're informed our boys were too high energy, don't listen, disruptive and we were eventually asked to leave. My husband and I were at a loss as to what we did wrong. We couldn't figure out how our kids behaved well at home, but at preschool they were unbearable for the caretakers. Both our sons went to Challenger Desert Hills around 3.5 years old and we were immediately surprised at the results. Our kids didn't cry during drop off, they were annoyed when we picked them up early because they wanted to stay longer. The best of all was how they told us in detail about their day; this didn't happen at other places. We cannot thank Ms. Kelly, Ms. Haley, Ms. Julie, Ms. Anna and countless other at the school for how they positively impacted our lives. My son was a student here from 3 years old until first grade, basically up until the pandemic, where we encountered some financial difficulties which required us to change schools. The decision was incredibly difficult for us to make as this school is wonderful with caring teachers, such as Miss Kelly (your amazing headmaster) and Miss Hailey. We really love them. I'm so thankful I had chosen this school as they gave him a solid foundation for all subjects and now he's ahead of his peers at his new school! I was looking for a school for my son and researched many in our area. I mostly wanted concentration on academics and principles which this school by far surpassed any other. It is very clean and well put together, they are quite kind and care about your kids while teaching them the principles of life they so importantly need to know. In less than 2 months my son went from just knowing the alphabet to reading books. This is preschool by the way, I can't wait to see what is in his future. We feel so blessed to have been a part of the Challenger Desert Hills community these last 3 years (through 1st grade). If it wasn't for a work relocation out of state we would definitely be continuing there! The level of curriculum, care and creativity these kids experience is inspiring. This was the absolute worst experience in dealing with a "school" I ever had! The director/head master is extremely unprofessional. I reported, to the director/head master, witnessing a teacher being verbally abusive to one of the pre-k students, who, the teacher turned out to be a friend of hers. I would recommend attending the Challenger location on Isaac Newton rather than this location on Badura, where this schools director and teachers are more professional, courteous, and definitely cultivating a better learning environment. read more

My daughter is finishing up her first year in the preschool 3 year olds and I can so happy we sent her to Challenger. She just turned 4 and is able to read & write short books. And is starting basic addition & subtraction. She has learned so much and really enjoys going to school everyday. The staff is amazing and her teachers are so patient and really care about the kids. Some people say there is so much homework or work the kids need to do at home, but it's more on consistency. She reads her books to us 10-15 min a day and does her writing another 10-15 but we break it up and some days don't. But because of the way they engage the kids and make them love to learn, she wants to do these things at home. She asks to do her writing or if she can read to us. I recently came back to read the reviews written and notice my review has been altered. How did that happen? Hmmm. I wrote a long review about my experience my son and I had during his PreK class describing his miserable unfriendly teacher. Due to the shut down back in 2020 he no longer attended, which was a blessing in disguise. The staff here was so unpleasant to deal with. Nothing good to say about this campus at all. Looking back I should have withdrew him earlier but he was just getting used to going to school so I didn't want to give up. Word of advice to parents...look into other private schools because Challenger way is not for every child. They don't make learning fun. Kids need a balance in school. My son attended this school for about one month last year before the school was forced to close on March 16th due to COVID. It was a terrible experience for me as a mother and I would NEVER recommend this school to anyone. I won't go into details but I will say the best experience he had with staff there was the day he had a substitute teacher. Now over one year later they have sent a "small" balance (their description) to collections with added late fees equal to over 100% of the original balance. I prepaid his tuition and never received any notification until now that they were still charging me up until the day the school closed regardless of whether he attended or not. read more

The educational pace is fine for kids who can keep up. Their false promises-cleverly only conveyed verbally and not in writing- about smaller class sizes vs. public and competitive alternatives are what kill the company as a whole for me. My child flourished going here, she loved her teacher, always knew what to expect, she looked forward to learning and was so proud of her accomplishments and make connections. I saw that this school is highly rated, and I made contact with them regarding the possibility of a scholarship for a very deserving bright student . I explained that she is a 5 year old barred from public school due to a borderline birthday (a week too young). She was attending and thriving at public school out of state. She and her mother and younger sister and brother were living in a battered woman's shelter, then were relocated to the Las Vegas area. The 5 year old sits in an apartment all day. I was told that scholarships are "only given on an internal basis". When seeking clarification, I was told that they are only "for existing students" This disqualifies ANY deserving student of low income. I am sorely disappointed that a school of this high rating excludes any low income students. I pray this policy is reconsidered. Thanks for reading and considering this. read more

After considering a number of options we chose Challenger Desert Hills for our son. Being our first child, we did not know what to expect out of a preschool, but we knew we wanted to find a school that focused on both the education and behavioral development of our child. After only one semester in school, our three-year-old son is not only reading small words, but is also developing into a young man and a gentleman. From the headmaster, to the staff, and his homeroom teachers the school is run like a family. I truly feel like the teachers and staff treat him as if he was their own child. Greeted with a hug every morning and another when we pick him up. And when we pick him up in the evening he wants to come home and continue his learning experience with flashcards and other educational material that we've gotten from the school. And to top it off, the school has periodic programs for the parents to learn behavioral development techniques. We could not be happier with the results so far and can't wait for our next child to get there in a couple of years. My twin boys went to Challenger School. The only reason we moved them to Faith Lutheran is they grew up! I can't say enough for the quality of education there. I had an amazing experience at this school for my three year old. We left thinking we would find something better only because they don't offer languages and sports and no locations close to our home but we do miss it all the time. They are so organized and their curriculum is amazing. They offer just the right balance of fun with a high academic focus. This review is for the treatment of parents and has no relevance to the education of the kids BUT if the parents who are paying the bills are treated so disrespectfully, i dare to think how the kids are being treated. I find the staff somewhat disorganized and rude. For the price, they should be more organized and polite. My son is in the preK summer program and they act like we have been told things multiple times, when in fact, they have not relayed any of that information. A few examples, (1) email goes out prior to first day telling parents pick up card and stickers are required for drive through line. So On the first day of school, we go inside to pick them up and they abruptly say "mom, you have to go through the drive through line." When i say we have no stickers or visor card as indicated in your email for the line, she just says the same thing over again. Kids are already out of car seats and they are IN the building. And now I have to reload kids in carseats JUST to drop off and drive back to pack to go inside for orientation where more mis-information is shared. (2) Now, when i drop them off i get "in trouble" for not having visor card and stickers and instead of politely asking in a nice tone, teacher says "MOM, i NEEEED your sticker and where is your visor card?" Ummm, you have not given them out yet and i just TRIED to get them at reception and i got a FIRM and impolite tone for trying to follow your rules...on day one...when a little bit of chaos is to be expected and dictatorial tone is not appreciated. (3) So then we have to wait 30 min for parent orientation where several pieces of misinformation are shared so the meeting is pretty much a massive waste of time. And mind you, the receptionist finally said we would be getting the visor card and stickers in orientation ...which we didn't. So a bunch of parents are now waiting in line to ask for them one by one and the receptionist abruptly said "we will be sending them home with the kids today." Every time someone tells me something at this school it's in a tone that reeks of "you should have listened and you should KNoW this." However either no one has said this or has said something contrary. (4) There is sharing every Monday in class and in orientation the headmaster said to have the kids bring in a favorite toy or keepsake from home to share in the theme of the week. Well, since we don't know the theme until Monday at pick up how can we possibly send them in with something to share on Monday morning that is pertinent?! Also, the teacher comes out and says "no toys, mom!" Well, I'm just following what he headmaster said at orientation, like every thing I'm doing which is apparently WRONG but no has indictated what to do unless I'm being "corrected" in a school marm manner. (5) at day one pick up, the teacher says, "mom, you have to drive forward out of the car line BEFORE securing your child in the car seat. UMMM excuse me?! You are telling me to DRIVE my car woth my 4 year old bopping around in the back?!?!! Which is against the law and establishes an unhealthy and unsafe option in the mind of children that they don't actually HAVE to use a car seat. (6) Today I was told I was driving the wrong way in a one way zone. When I asked for the teacher to show me the sign she again said "they went over that in orientation". Ummm...no they didn't and your parking lot has exactly zero areas that are one way. If it's a safety issue, then buy some signs with the gazillion dollars you charge for tuition and make it official and clear. If it is a "preference" then state it as a preference. Don't tell me I'm driving the wrong way in a one way zone which is a lie. Yes the car line goes one way. I went INTO to car line the correct way but they didn't like that I came from the front entrance of the school today and drove to the BACK of the line to enter correctly. They wanted me to drive around the block on main roads to enter the school from the back when every part of the parking lot and pick up are two-way. My older son went to challenger in a different location and we did not have any of these issues and he did learn a lot. Absolutely will NOT recommend this Challenger campus to anyone. read more

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to express my utter dissatisfaction with the quality of care that my daughter Mia has received at your private school. On Friday November 18, 2016 the weather had changed drastically to a very chilly 50 degrees that morning and very windy. When the children took their morning recess all the teachers were wearing warm winter coats, while the students (young children) were in t-shirts playing outside. My daughter came home chilled to the bone and had a severe cough. And because of your teachers Ms. Veronica and Ms. Mary's blatant disregard for my child's well-being, Mia was sick for over a week and had to miss school which I am paying a substantial amount of money for a half day of school. The fact that I have to pay tuition to a school that does not have my child's best interest at heart angers me. My wife called the front office of the Desert Hills branch of Challenger school to get any form of an explanation and was basically dismissed by your staff. Stating it's up to the teachers to make sure the kids wear coats or not. I have pulled my daughter out of your program for the fact that if a simple thing like a coat in cold weather slips any type of common sense by your teachers is not someone I want my child educated by. read more

I can not say enough amazing things about Challenger! Honestly, the curriculum is by far the best out there. They really do have kids reading in their first year of preschool...seriously amazing results! My only regret is not starting my son earlier. He started preschool at 4.5 years old so he was only able to do 1 year of the preschool program and was in the part time program. He's now in Kindergarten and it's unbelievable the level of math and reading that the class is testing. It's definitely a very advanced program but if you start with them early on, I think the kids pick it up so easily. Their way of teaching is great. At first, I struggled with the level of independence that they expect from their students starting as early as preschool and their uniform policy is pretty strict after preschool. But, I now, know that they really know what they are doing and the high expectations they set are achievable by their students. Simply put, they know what they are doing and I wish I had trusted them a bit more right out the gate instead of frustrating myself by trying to coddle my son too much. I plan on keeping my son in Challenger all the way through because it's been great so far! The only thing that I will do differently with my daughter is start her in their preschool program at 3 years old and probably do full time instead of part time. It's unbelievable how much they learn. Lastly, we started at the Silverado Campus for preschool and it was great but then the newest location (Desert Hills) opened up this year and my son transferred to the new campus just for Kindergarten because they were only going to have 1 Kindergarten class (being that it was new) and the teacher, Ms. Williams is AMAZING...seriously, she's beyond great! But, being that this was their first year, they will not offer 1st grade for Fall 2017 so we are transferring back to Silverado. We've loved our time at Challenger Desert Hills. Headmaster, Kelly Solaegui, truly cares about the students and their success and is always readily available to discuss any concerns. I can not say enough amazing things about the Kindergartener teacher there right now, Ms. Williams!!!!! Her students' results speak for her. Ms. Hailey at the front desk is one of a kind! She was previously my son's preschool teacher at Silverado and she got him to succeed in ways that I never even dreamed were possible. Although, I'll miss the Desert Hills Team, I know that Silverado will be wonderful too and I look forward to transitioning back to Challenger Silverado and calling that home for the next several years (hopefully). read more

I thank Mrs Kelly, Mrs Sunny, Mr Tavin, Mrs Adrianne and Mrs Halley everyday for the amazing work they do! Our son has changed 100% for the better since he's been at Challenger Desert Hills (2 years now). Prior to him coming to Challenger at 3 years old, we were informed by Shenker Academy that our son was no longer able to come back after 2 weeks due to his behavior. We had the similar experience at Coronado Prep Preschool, and the Kiddie Academy. I was without hope when I called Mrs Kelly and informed her about our son. She told me to come in and meet with her and that Challenger is different from all other places I've been. She was absolutely right! They didn't give up on us or our son. He learned to read with them at 4 and will be starting Kindergarten with them next year. He loves going to school and I cannot believe how far he's come. I'm also surprised when I see him interact with kids in the neighborhood that are older. Our little guy helps them with spelling and has a larger vocabulary than most of them. I tell as many parents as I can to enroll their kids in Challenger for preschool, instead of a daycare. Wow, where do I start off. Challenger is such an exceptional school. From the moment I first called to signing my son up for school here it was nothing but super welcoming. The staff at the school is absolutely amazing!! The way everyone treated me and my son was just so sweet and welcoming on every level! Mrs Kelly, you have done so many amazing things with this school! I had only wish I found out about challenger a long time ago :( my son would have started this school at 3 years of age if I would of even known of challenger. I would highly recommend any parent to check out this school for your children. My son first attended public school for the majority of her kinder year. We could not be happier with our choice to send our son to Challenger School. He is attending their preschool full-time and absolutely loves it! He is excited to go to school everyday. He can't wait to see his friends and teachers. Our son is already reading small words and is constantly asking "what does this spell" or pointing out words that he already knows. I truly believe that the environment Challenger School provides has him always wanting to learn and know more. He comes home singing new songs all the time and I find him making up his own songs too. First off I agree with the previous posts about this school and it might just be this location at desert hills because o had the same experience with the terribly unprofessional, and extremely rude and dismissive staff! If I could write a review given them -5 stars I would. I called the school yesterday and was informed they had a spot open for the pre-k full day program and that I could come by for an orientation. I came to the school at 3pm and was "greeted" (if that's what you can actually call it) by the receptionist or front office lady, who starred me up and down as though I walked into the wrong place. I informed her, I had an appointment for a walk through. She brought another lady out, named Kelly Solaegui, who was disappointingly enough the headmaster of the school. She also before greeting me gave me a stare up and down (I had on a jacked and pants and flip flops because I had rushed over from the nail shop), kind of looking at me as though again I'm not good enough to be there. She walked me through the school and showed me the classrooms etc, which seemed nice. Then she asked what program I was interested in and I said the full day program, she then said they had no availability for that (but the front desk had informed me they did which is why I rushed over). She said there would be a waiting list and that she doesn't think anybody would be leaving or moving to open up a spot for my son. I explained to her that I thought that was strange because when front desk checked they said there was one full time spot open, and asked if that's something they wouldn't know. She said no they wouldn't know if there's spots open or not, but that she will check. After "checking" there was one spot available (as front desk told me), she said I have to pay the application and registration fee and fill out all the paperwork asap while there, which I did. Again any questions I had they wouldn't answer properly and would keep saying we have all the information here in this folder. They had me fill out a questionnaire asking my opinion about certain things to do with curriculum, school, teaching methods etc, in which I had circle the closest thing to what "I" would think is appropriate. One of the questions was if a child forgets his lunch what should the school do? The way she said it and the tone was so disrespectful and so demeaning, I explained to her that I didn't think anybody should force anything, but that if a kid wanted to share their lunch then I would see nothing wrong with that, because that's what I have taught my son, and actually he always offers up his lunch I pack him for his current school, even though they provide lunch. However, she made me also cross that out initial it and cross the "right answer". I found it absolutely ridiculous, that as an adult I have to take a test to enroll my 5 years old son, so are you prescreening and judging my son by his parent? Also why ask me about my opinion, when you're just going to force yours on me? I suggest to the school, that they should rather inform a parent during enrollment, about how the school is run, what is expected of the parent, and the student and the reason why. The best thing about this school is the staff! When my child walks in the door they know him immediately and take the time to make us feel at home. Miss Kelly, Miss Hailey and Miss Marie are always so professional, helpful and considerate. My son is in Miss Sarah and Miss Jen's class. Every day when we come in they greet us with a smile regardless of the activity around them. It is interesting to watch a class of little 3 year olds on the first week of school. No one seemed bothered, or stressed with some of the initial crying. The second best is the way they teach and how they teach. I almost didn't believe when we toured last year that my soon to be 3 year old would be reading. I wanted to believe on the tour that they only showed you the best. What I know now, is that EVERY child in my son's class is achieving and surpassing their peers. Last week we had a class birthday party and you could tell who was from Challenger School and had been taught manners. I have heard and seen nothing but amazing results from this school. We absolutely love this location for our son's school. Challenger has high expectations, but they offer support and feedback to get everyone on the same page - child, parents, teachers, admin. I've meant to write a review on here for a long time. We are just extremely happy with the progress our son has made, both academically and personally. Obviously, the academic part is huge, they move quickly, and it's been a lot of work for both our son and us to keep on track. He loves it there. But it's the personal standards they support that our so in line with our beliefs that make this a great fit - It isn't just the grades. As a parent, I hope to teach my son how to work hard, be proud of hard work, be empathetic, understand the consequences of his actions, and treat people well. It's hard to let them go to school and wonder if they are operating under the same ideas or learning things you would never want them to at school. For me, I don't have that concern at all sending our son here. They teach the kids the importance of being responsible for their words and actions, that learning and improving is the reward and not something material. They support everything I hope to show at home, in the classroom. Anytime I have walked in or called, I reach Miss Kelly or Miss Hailey personally, and they take the time to answer my questions, or schedule additional time to meet one on one if needed. Any time i have called a teacher, they return my call before 4pm the same day. We had Miss Ashley last year for pre-k and Ms Spencer and Mr. Ousinni this year for Kindergarten. These teachers have been so kind and supportive, and truly care about our son. They always meet you with a smile and never make you feel rushed. I really can't say enough about them, they are amazing. Our son can read, is truly learning the foundation of language, math addition and subtraction, grouping and multiplication, US history, geography, the scientific method, and more.
