The service was quick and the staff were very kind. The food is soooo good! I loved their pad Thai and tom yum soup! The Thai tea was very flavorful as well. Will be coming back soon! The vibes are so chill. The only downside is that our whole table didn't have service but then again it was kind of a blessing to communicate and chat with one another.

Champa garden is just everytime. Great food, super affordable. Big portions you cannot leave hungry. Love that they give a vegan option for the Thai tea for the lactose intolerant people! My friends and I got in about 45 minutes from closing so we were honestly just expecting to get take out and leave but they were so kind to accommodate us and we dined in. Wonderful service, charmingly decorated. Delicious 10/10

This is one of my go-to spots for Lao/thai food in Oakland. They are usually really busy so if you can make a reservation, it's best to to ensure you get a table. Either that, or order to go. If you can't, just be prepared to wait a bit, but just know, it'll be worth the wait! The restaurant is a decent size, clean, but the parking is pretty tricky as it's in a residential area. Service is pretty good. Everyone is really friendly and attentive. Again they are usually busy, so be patient with them. The menu has plenty of things to choose from. I usually order the appetizer sampler for the table. This comes with nam kao (crispy rice salad), Lao sausages, their eggrolls, and noodles with a side of fresh lettuce and mint, cilantro to make wraps as well as a dipping sauce. Everything is good but this last time I went, the eggrolls weren't as flavorful as they usually are. May have just had an off day. Another thing I usually order is the kao piak (chicken noodle soup) which is also really good. Comforting for this type of weather too. Honestly, anything I've ordered is usually good. Love this place! Been a staple for years!

I've had the pleasure of finally dining inside! I went on Valentines for dinner around 7pm there were a maybe 4 people head of us and we waited maybe less than 30minutes at most. They had a lot of menu items and it was so hard to choose. However while waiting to get seated I was reading an article posted in front of the store outside in recognition of there nam kaow. I definitely had to order that! It was really good! But I felt it did need some sort of fish sauce. The pad thai was delicious of course had to get it again & the portions are actually a lot more bigger in person vs online ordering. The house special was delicious, pretty saucy I'm glad the server suggested a side of white rice to soak up the sauce. All in all this is a solid thai spot and would love to try more things on the menu.

Came with my group of friends right when they opened on Sunday and there were already a few parties ahead of us waiting! All the food was fresh, delicious, and made to order. Green curry was delicious and flavorful. The champa sampler was superb! A variety of different flavors and items on the tray itself. Portions were also big and great for sharing. Would recommend.

Food - SUPER tasty thai food. ordered panang curry and pad se ew. everything was so flavorful and they also have mild option which is perfect for someone like me who can't eat too much spicy Service - super friendly staff! we got seated at the bar because they were so busy but service was prompt. Ambiance - cute little spot, hole in the wall, super nice and cozy

Really long wait on a holiday night but worth it. Ordered the papaya salad Thai style. Good balance of citrus and vinegar. The chicken noodle soup Lao style was different than anything I've had. Quick thick and the noodles were thicker as well. Great flavor. My friend ordered the panang curry and that was the winner. Can't wait to come back and try more.

Every item we ordered tonight actually all came out, and almost every dish was on point. Although it was busy tonight, everything came out quick and service was excellent. We ordered the chicken noodle soup with added ground pork, papaya salad, chicken pad thai, chicken wings, mango sticky rice, and thai tea. We dont usually order the chicken wings as often as other dishes, but every time we do, it's always so crispy and perfectly seasoned! The mango sticky rice is just okay though. The mangoes served with actually a little brown inside.

Such a yummy dinner and a fun atmosphere. Jake found this restaurant and I just have to rave about it. The champa sampler had this crispy rice that worked so well with the sausage and I would 100% recommend and eat again. The chicken satay was cooked to perfection & had great flavor with the peanut sauce. We got the mango fried rice and curry were good staples as well- but I think I'd get pineapple next time. I tried the Thai iced tea with coconut milk for something new and have to highlight that service was phenomenal as well. Would recommend to anyone looking for a great dinner in both price and quality. We came at dinner time and waited less than 10 min for a seat and our food came quickly. Parking can be tricky because it's in a neighborhood, but not impossible!

I get my cravings for pad thai once in a while, and decided to check out Champa Garden when I saw they had duck as a protein option! Definitely don't see that often. The pad thai starts at $12.50 if you go for the classic protein options like chicken or beef, which is very affordable for a sit down meal these days. The duck, however, is a $5 add on. Considering how much of an increase it is compared to chicken here, I had much higher expectations. It wasn't abundantly loaded with meat or anything, and a lot of the pieces were more fat than meat. I definitely don't think it was worth $5 for the upgrade. The noodles itself also seemed more on the soft and overcooked side, and a bit too saucy. Wasn't my ideal texture. I also tried the Angel Wings ($13) since it seemed to be one of their popular specialty items. I personally just didn't think stuffed fried chicken is my thing. The outer crisp was great though! I'll probably just stick to classic chicken wings in the future. Overall, if you live in the area, this is a pretty decent spot for a casual budget friendly meal if you stick to the basics.

Our party of 6 had no problem getting seating here. The waiting staff were very hospitable and our server successfully remembered our order of 9 items without writing it down. Khao Piak - 5 - the noodles were chewy and soft. Thick on the starchy side in a good way. Larp - 5 - Fresh appetizer. It pairs well when you wrap it in the provided lettuce with some sticky rice. Lao Papaya salad - 2 - It was strong on the fish and the papaya felt on the more soggy side. Overall not my cup of tea. Champa Sampler - 5 - the fried rolls were crunchy. As was the nam khao. I also enjoyed the sausage. Duck curry with eggplant - 4.5 - it has regular thai flavor to it and was solid. Chicken Satay - 4 - We enjoyed this as well, but nothing special to write home about. Basil Fried Rice - 5 - I liked it.

Champa Garden is one of those neighborhood gems you end up craving weekly. Tucked away in East Oakland, it's a cozy spot serving up seriously delicious Lao, Thai, and Cambodian dishes. My friend and I went on a Saturday afternoon and was luckly seated right away. As we started to order was when it started to get packed. We ordered the Champa Sampler to share for the both of us. Do not skip on this dish. It's the perfect intro to their Lao-Thai dishes. We also ordered the Lao's Noodle Soup and I would highly recommend it! The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the vibe is super casual which is great for both a quick lunch or a laid-back dinner with friends. They also do takeout really well if you're not in the mood to dine in. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the food hits every time. Highly recommend if you're looking to explore Southeast Asian cuisine or just want a consistently great meal.

I'm absolutely blown away. I was surprised about how good everything was. Might have been the best…read morefood I've had this year. My family ordered 1 appetizer, 4 entrees, and 2 drinks, all shared, and all 4 of us agreed that EVERY single item was phenomenal. That has absolutely NEVER happened before. At most restaurants, there's always at least one thing that someone doesn't like, and often multiple things that multiple people don't like. Not the case here. The appetizer was the spicy basil wings. Very good to start. But little did I know what was coming my way. The drinks were Thai tea and lychee limeade. The Thai tea was normal. As in good, I liked it. The lychee limeade was amazing, had to order another one. I would like to try the mango next time (there will definitely be a next time). Very sour, which I love. I hate lemonade that's not sour enough. Oh and that too, I usually hate limeade, don't really care for lemonade, and don't drink soda. I usually only drink water, juice, or tea (no coffee, alcohol rarely). So that's saying something. The Laos fried spring roll entree was really good. I always liked fried rolls but something about this tasted better. They were Laotian rolls, so maybe that was part of the difference from the ones you get from Pho restaurants. The duck over rice was amazing. I'm not usually one to pick duck, I don't mind it but I usually don't order it, but this was my mom's choice and it was really good. I like the sauce too. The Panang duck curry was so good. My mom doesn't even like curry and she liked it. And the Chiang Mai soup dish, I've never had anything like it. It was still hot after, I don't know, 20 minutes maybe? At the bottom especially. We all ate this together at the end, while the other dishes were in the order I listed them for myself (mostly, kinda switched around a bit eating family style), and generally the same for everyone else. I tasted a tiny bit of the soup in the beginning and thought it was nothing special, like when my spoon was clean it was the first thing I scooped. Only the soup though, none of the stuff inside. Honestly I didn't read what was in it, some crispy noodle or something. I was not sure if I would like it but my sister said she had it in Thailand and liked it so if I didn't like it she could eat it. That ended up not being a problem. Okay so anyway, we started on the soup at the end. To start, it was pretty good. Somehow, every bite we took tasted better and better, for at least like 5-10 bites maybe. At that point, I was thinking it's the best thing I've ever tasted. (But of course that's probably not actually true, and I'm just falling for the recency bias, kind of like how my favorite song changes all the time.) Never had anything like it. I've been missing out. But wow, I have to come back. And I highly recommend this place. Life changing experience honestly. Like if you asked me right now if I wanted to get Japanese or Korean (my other favorites) food or this, I would go here. I honestly wanted more of every single dish, especially the fried spring rolls, duck over rice, duck curry, and soup. Wait a second... that's all the entrees we ordered! Also the limeade. I need to get that again. But I also want to try other stuff next time so I'm torn. I literally need all 4 of these dishes again so I don't know what to do. I hope these dishes aren't seasonal or otherwise temporary. I noticed the menu had a month and year listed (I think it said April 2026 and it's May 3 2026 today) so I believe they update it frequently. If I lived closer I would come 20 times in a row and try every single thing, but unfortunately I live in San Ramon so it's not like I'm trying to go to Oakland every day. Soon though. My sister lives there, if I were her I would go here every day until I was sick of it, if that could ever be possible. I don't know if I could ever enjoy other food this much again. I was also completely sober so it wasn't like I had munchies or anything (felt I should specify being a young adult who grew up in California). Hmm, that gives me an idea for the future though. Even the pricing is fair (no dishes over $30), and the place is nice. Great service too. The only drawbacks are small tables for parties over 4 people, and it's REALLY loud in the restaurant, but well worth it. If you are sensitive to noise I'd recommend earplugs, earmuffs, earbuds, headphones, or something. The place is also relatively small. I'd recommend making a reservation if you plan to go on a Friday or Saturday night. It got busy, very busy. Well our reservation was at 6 and it wasn't crowded yet, a couple tables open, but by the time our food came out the place was absolutely packed and I think people without reservations had to wait to sit. I'm not sure though, I was too focused on the amazing food to care. Anyway, once again, highly recommend and I will be back.

FOOD We were pretty excited so ordered quite a few items to try -- we definitely had leftovers. Everything was DELISH. * Pandan Green Tea -- delicious! * SAI QUA (Lao sausage) -- made fresh. Meaty and herbaceous. It was grilled and charred. Yum! * THU LITH'S FAMOUS SAIKOO --My friend was waiting to try this, which was the main reason we chose Lao Garden. It was excellent. Under "Wraps," these are steamed tapioca balls filled with pork. The tapioca balls were fresh, soft, and chewy, while the pork filling was well-seasoned and balanced. It was served with lettuce, mint, and parsley. * MOK PA -- Steamed catfish with lemongrass, dill, onions, and wrapped in banana leaves. A favorite of mine! Light and aromatic. It was served with steamed veggie medley and jeow mak len (tomato dipping sauce with various spices). * EGGPLANT PRAWNS -- Seasoned and tasty. Eggplant and prawns cooked to perfection. Since it was lunch, there was a special for this entree. * FRIED CHICKEN WINGS w/ PAPAYA SALAD -- This was also a lunch special served with sticky rice. We were chatting with the owner, and she was kind enough to change it to Lao style, which is more pungent with the umami from fermented fish sauce. The wings were crispy, and the papaya salad was well-balanced and tasty. Discovering Lao Garden was a fantastic experience, and we truly enjoyed their delicious dishes. I can't wait to return and share this hidden gem with friends and family so they can enjoy it too.

Off day?

The staff is consistently so kind and welcoming, which makes the experience even better every time. Truly, there isn't a single bad item on the menu. They do an amazing job offering more unique Laotian dishes alongside classic Thai favorites. Some personal standouts are the kor moo yang (grilled pork jowl), grilled beef short rib, mok pa (steamed catfish), and the Lao-style papaya salad -- which is perfectly spicy and packed with flavor. Portions are generous and incredibly filling, and everything is so flavorful and delicious. Even when ordered for delivery, the food arrives fresh and holds up beautifully. Rose Garden is a total gem and I cannot recommend them enough.

Located on the corner of 19th and San Pablo so easy to find. Friendly and welcoming staff with some delicious dishes: :: Nam Khao - Lao/Thai lettuce wrap of crunchy rice, fermented pork and tossed with lime, fish sauce, peanuts and fresh herbs. Not as crispy, more tangy with plenty of sliced onions 3.75/5 :: Seen savanh - popular Lao sweet and savory beef jerky - flavors good but thought it was a bit overcooked. Someone used the word "incinerated" that it had a crumbly texture with no chew or crispness - wouldn't order again as so many other items to try! :: Pork Belly - can't go wrong with some crispy pork served with a delicious tangy, garlicky, spicy dipping sauce 4/5 :: Sweet Fish with fried Basil - lightly battered cod, fried and tossed in a wonderful Thai sweet and sour sauce! 5/5 An extensive menu, delicious food, friendly, hospitable service will have us returning. The food is made to order but they're hella fast. Great customer service! Very helpful. I loved the shrimp and garlic noodles but my fav was definitely the Lao sausage. Everything was delicious!! The biggest challenge was the wait. We arrived early and were among the first people in line, yet still ended up waiting about three hours for our food. Throughout the wait, customers were understandably frustrated, and several people voiced concerns. My dad was even offered a complimentary 7-Up after repeatedly being told the food would be "ready in ten more minutes." Parking was another downside. We ended up spending around $10 just to park, which added to the overall inconvenience of an already lengthy wait. That said, every staff member we interacted with was friendly, kind, and professional. Despite the chaos, they maintained a positive attitude, which was appreciated. The restaurant's posted hours indicate they are open from 12 PM to 8 PM on operating days, but by around 2:30 PM they were already telling customers they were closed due to the backlog of orders. Now for the food: it was absolutely worth the wait. Everything was hot, fresh, and clearly made to order rather than sitting under a heat lamp. The beef sticks were incredibly tender and tasted like they had been marinated overnight. The lemongrass flavor came through beautifully without being overpowering, and every sauce we tried was flavorful and well-balanced. The noodles were just slightly softer than I prefer, but not enough to take away from the meal. Overall, the quality of the food is outstanding, and it's clear a lot of care goes into preparing each order. My hope is that they can find ways to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality because the food truly deserves the praise it receives. Unfortunately, the extreme wait time will likely prevent me from frequenting the restaurant as often as I would like, despite how much I enjoyed the food. I would still recommend trying it, but be prepared for a significant wait and plan accordingly.

We found a spot on a side street a block away. This Thai/Laos eatery was dimly lit with a cozy atmosphere. When we arrived, only a few tables were occupied, so we were seated quickly. They have a variety on the menu: starters, salads, noodle soups, pan fried noodles, stir-fries, seafood, vegetarian, curries, fried rice, specials, sides, & desserts. *** O U R P I C K S *** CHAMPA WINGS ~ sweet & spicy, dry pepper fried chicken wings. The wings were quite small, but we got 10 flats. Tasty, but not too spicy. Comparable to the wings you'd get from San Tung or Korean fried chicken wings. 4/5 CHAMPA SAMPLER ~ Lao sausages, fried rice ball salad, & fried spring rolls. Tasty generous platter! It comes with vermicelli noodles and lots of fresh lettuce and herbs so you can make lettuce wraps. Spring rolls were crispy and delicious. I think this was the highlight of our meal. 5/5 LARP LAO STYLE (Duck) SALAD ~ prepared with mint, onions, fish paste, cilantro & Thai eggplants. Alone, the duck is pretty salty. But eating it with the provided lettuce and herbs balanced the flavors and cut the saltiness. Unique and bold flavors. 4/5 PAD THAI ~ thin rice noodles, tamarind, eggs, bean sprouts, and chicken. Flavor was on point, but the noodles were a bit wet and overcooked. 3.5/5 GINGER FISH ~ battered catfish, minced pork, ginger, onions, bell peppers, and mushroom. This tasted more like a Chinese dish. The fish were filet pieces deep fried with a batter covered in a brown sauce. This dish tasted ok, but nothing special. 3.5/5 A few dishes stood out like the Champa sampler and Larp Lao style duck salad. We enjoyed our meal and we'll definitely make our way back when the craving hits!

The Tom Kha soup was the highlight of the meal. It was rich, creamy, and full of flavor, with a nice balance of coconut, citrus, and herbs. It was so good that George is still finishing the leftovers today. Between the two of us, we got about four servings out of it, which felt like a great value. Unfortunately, the Pad See Ew was a letdown. The dish was greasy, lacked depth of flavor, and had very little beef. I ended up contacting customer support to request a partial refund because the portion of protein was so disappointing. For a dish like Pad See Ew, you expect tender slices of beef, chewy rice noodles, and a balanced savory and slightly sweet soy flavor with a bit of char from the wok, but this version fell short. Overall, the soup was excellent and worth ordering again, but the noodle dish did not meet expectations. I have heard good things about this place and hope this was just an off day.
