    Pineapple fried rice
    Robert C.

I like the service here at this restaurant. They were very polite and understanding. I had a Thai iced tea which was fine. For the main entree I had the Pad see ew. I didn't have a protein which would have cost extra. I was on a soft food diet due to a recent dental procedure. For the first time, I had the mango sticky rice. It was delicious. I'll have to order it again sometime. I also had some pineapple fried rice, which was also tasty. I like the fact that the prices were a little lower than other Thai restaurants I've been to. I'm always welcome to that. This restaurant is worth returning to. I would've never known that a restaurant would be in this location.

Kind of a quirky small restaurant with great service and really good food. Can't ask for much more. Plenty of street parking and a pretty expensive menu. Lunch special is great and only around $15. Very fresh food Thai iced tea was great. They don't overdo it on the spice level, which I also like.

Update from a previous 5 star review... another 5 star review! This is our go to spot for pick up. Already ready on time and great quality just as in dine in. Dine in is also great- new spot , well taken care of. Smooth and colorful ambiance. My update is about how they ran to our car after our pick up to ensure we got the right rice order and once they made up for it they also added some nice complimentary cookies. They are too kind! I hope they continue to thrive!

Cute Thai restaurant in East Oakland's Fruitvale District that has a small parking lot. I went to Jr high nearby and don't recall what was in this spot 40 years ago,... a laundromat? Mom and pop grocery store? Just no idea what was in this multi- room location. Well, it's been a small family Thai Restaurant since pre-pandemic per the nice Waitress. The place has metal bars on the windows, a sign of what you need to do in Oakland to protect your assets. Sad but necessary. We sat in the middle room on a very quiet weekday, no one else in the whole restaurant We heard take-out orders throughout our dinner but no other on-site diners. The Waitress says weekends are Waitlist days...glad to hear that and glad that they do enough take-out to survive. Ordered: - Roti with Yellow Curry Coconut dipping sauce, you have three sauces to choose from and we chose the traditional yellow. Sauce was good while the Roti was dense and flat and chewy. Not a fluffy crispy version that we're used to. I'd pass on this unless you like a dense Roti... it was more like an onion pancake without the onions. - Tom Kha Gai aka Coconut Curry Lemongrass Chicken Soup, the soup had lots of chicken and was spot on for taste while the bowl of soup was small. The portion serves four with no seconds. - Pad Thai with Chicken, a good version of Thailand's signature dish. - Pineapple Duck Curry, a very good version with crispy duck bathing in a rich red curry sauce, comes with a bowl of rice - Basil Eggplant with Pork which was spot on in flavor and portion size. Also comes with a scoop of rice. - Mango Sticky Rice, a pricy version of this universal Thai dessert. Not a standout at the current price. Overall, the restaurant is a great neighborhood restaurant, however I would not go and seek out if you're from out of the area. The entrees are fairly priced and taste spot on while the appetizer of Roti was lackluster and the soup was small. The one big turnoff was the staff cleaning up with a bleachy mop a half-hour before closing. We were about to finish our plates and just ordered the Mango Sticky Rice when they started cleaning. This was a big no-no for us as the smell was so disturbing to our meal and last dessert dish. Suggestion.... Don't walk thru with a mop with bleach while diners are still dining.

    Roti dip with yellow curry

I got takeout on Sunday afternoon. Roti dip with yellow curry: the roti itself, as you might expect, is pretty oily. The curry is very tasty and well-spiced. I would definitely want to have more of their curries in the future. Khao soi, tofu, default spice level: It was well-spiced but not spicy at all, I could handle it fine as someone who can only handle a mild level of spiciness. I liked the crispy noodles, and the tofu cubes are large and very firm. There's another fried pastry-like thing (I believe it was the bean curd), I'm not sure I liked that was much texture wise as it was hard to chew through. The sauce/soup was quite flavorful though. Overall I thought the food was quite good, will definitely make note of this and it's now among my favorite Thai restaurants in Oakland.

Stopped by Wawa Thai Food for a weekday lunch with friends and it was a good experience. The location seems fairly convenient and easy to locate after exiting I-580. Street parking was available and easy to find, but it could be less available on weekends. The restaurant is decorated nicely with bright colors and touches of vivid decorations. The menu seemed to have a lot of different options, and most items ranged from $15-25 depending on what meat/protein you choose. We opted to order from the lunch specials list, which offer a good amount of options and cost $14.99+. For the lunch specials, you get to choose a small plate (such as soup or egg rolls & etc) along with an entree and a side (rice/salad). We all thought the lunch specials were a good value and offered a number of options. I ordered the tom yum soup, thai fried rice with chicken and a salad on the side. The tom yum soup was quite tasty but a little too spicy, so I couldn't finish the whole portion. The thai fried rice was flavorful and I enjoyed it, although the chicken pieces were a bit bland. The side salad was good, with a mix of lettuce, cucumber, carrots and red onions and a tangy dressing. The only possible downside is the seating area was slightly cramped and stuffy. Luckily, we went at a less busy time, but I could see it being more uncomfortable during a busy timeframe. However, customer service was pretty good and attentive, despite it seeming like the restaurant was understaffed. In addition, I ordered the roti with yellow curry to-go along with another lunch special, and I believe both items were great. Overall, I enjoyed the food and ambiance at Wawa. It's definitely worth a visit if you're interested in getting Thai food.

This was my first time eating here, footnote. I'm not from this area. Had a group that went hiking and decided on Thai food after the hike. Went with the chicken yellow curry and Jazmyne rice. Overall, it was good and the service was very friendly. At the end, they brought out some snacks for dessert that were prepackaged.

I normally don't give bad reviews, but I was disappointed in this restaurant especially since their reviews seems to be good. The ambiance is nice and cute, the server was very nice, but the food was not what I expected. I got the shrimp rolls which were good. But the Khao Soi was not good. Picture is deceiving. I usually like Thai curry, but I did not like this one. I barely ate any of it. I told the server I didn't like it and she asked if I wanted a box to go. I was hoping she would have offered me to order something else instead but no. To me that's not good customer service. I almost ordered something else anyway, but was scared I wasn't going to like that either. Didn't want to waste even more money.

Their lunch special is such a steal!!! You get one small plate + one entree + salad or rice, all for under $20 which is honestly hard to beat! It's only available M-F from 12-3pm so it's perfect for a work lunch. The restaurant is really cute super clean and nicely designed and the service was amazing everyone was so friendly and attentive. Parking can be a little tough since it's mostly street parking but it's worth it for the value food and overall vibe.

I've passed by this place and have been curious-so cute and pink! So when my sis asked for Thai food, we ordered their takeout. Winner! So good. Fresh ingredients, well-flavored, and generous portions. Our order: roti, tom yum soup, pad see ew, drunken noodle, and red curry. Everything was delicious. And even better the next day as leftovers! We've found our Thai spot. Will definitely try to dine in next time!

I came here alone on an early Saturday dinner, and I was amazed by the interior decoration! I had to move tables, but was offered a complementary drink in exchange for a drink, which was a young coconut! It was amazing and refreshing. The spring rolls weren't the most impressive, but it's definitely crispy. The beef combo noodle soup - a good amount of beef and green veggies, noodles were on the modest end, but the broth flavor was very flavorful and rich. It is a very small restaurant that's very pink and clean. If I ever come by this area, I'd definitely come back.

We all split all the specialty cocktails and I got the Khao Pad Kang Kiew (rice with eggplant and chicken topped with a fried egg). Dishes are $20-23 ish each. We were seated at the 6 person table in the back of the restaurant near the bathroom. My favorite drinks were their take on a hard thai iced tea, the lavender mojito, a take on an espresso martini. There was also this spicy drink that had thai chilis in it that is VERY spicy lol. Pros: - the rice dish was DELICIOUS and also huge haha. Came with cucumbers to cut the peppery flavor if needed. - All the cocktails were pretty different and it was fun to try all of them. They were all beautiful to look at and tasty (lots of coconut and Thai inspiration). - Service was pretty good - Has "typical" thai dishes like pad thai and pad see ew, and also more rare ones that are hard to find - Close to many bars and other establishments, so perfect if you want to eat here as a first, second, or third location of your outing haha Cons: - The air flow in the back wasn't amazing so I did feel like it got stuffy/hot - Parking can be tough in this area so I recommend BARTing Another reason to love Oakland!

We had to re-place our orders because they were never sent to the kitchen and lost, we had to flag down servers otherwise we were sitting there confused for 20+ minutes as they hustled and bustled around us, it was just bizarre. And it was a bit embarrassing as I'd lauded this place to my guest and we proceeded to get snubbed by every server during dinner time. Alas, the pad kemao was still delicious but I don't know if I'd suffer that kind of service again for a meal. And no, nothing was comped or discounted. Ambiance-wise, the restaurant is cute and near a busy area of downtown Oakland so it's easy to get to by BART or by car. I might give them another chance if I'm ever in the area already, but I won't be going out of my way to visit again.

If you want a receipt have it printed before you leave. My friend had a spicy eggplant dish and I had a tofu dish with rice and no fish sauce. Wish I could be more descriptive but can't say without an itemized receipt.. doesn't matter though, was all amazing flavors for both my friend (who travels and has worldly palette, and my self with a broad pallet only within the US) Flavors were amazing and service was on par. I did have an issue at first with the first server saying Pad Thai could be done with tofu and no fish sauce so I was excited, but then the next server said it was already mixed and not able to accommodate, but did find me an alternative I found flavorful with veggies, though missed having the peanuts in my dish. I had Pad See You instead without meat or fish sauce. Service overall was wonderful, attentive and didn't have to wait for anything. They did close and allowed us to stay on the patio visiting long after. Would be happy to return again.. I didn't ask about validating my parking and then they closed, so that was a bummer but my bad.. do check when you arrive and see if they can validate to help with a hefty parking cost $20 for us but hung out longer than most..

We were a party of ten and I was able to make rezzies via phone for a Friday evening at 6:30pm no problem about a week beforehand. The kiddos ordered à la carte, and five of us adults had the following: - BMV ultimate papaya platter with Lao sausage, angel wings and crispy pork. Crispy pork was legit, papaya salad definitely had that extra funk. The angel wings were crispy and meaty and my friends loved the Lao sausage. One even said "it's like tom yum soup in a sausage". It was very lemongrass forward which is not my thing, but that's my problem. I feel we could have ordered à la carte and that would have been a better deal than $75 for the platter. Some of it was fluff like the cabbage, rice and pork rinds. - Khao soy soup: Fiancé thought it would be creamy and coconut-y like the Thai version but it wasn't. I did enjoy the flat noodles but they were all stuck together. - Pia pla ka pow (fish with basil): Good one. The fish was moist and flavorful. The veggies were al dente and delicious too. - Sakoo: Unique! I enjoyed the chewy mochi exterior and the savory ground pork filling. It needed a sauce. I just used the chili sauce that was on the party platter. - Laab Gai: This fell flat for me. I'm not a huge fan of organs though. - Nam khao fried rice: One of our favorites! The crispy pieces really made this dish. Would definitely order this again. - Mango sticky rice: Served warm. Very sweet mango! - Purple rice with egg custard: Also served warm. This was ok. - Side of rice: HUGE serving! Unfortunately it was clumpy and hard, which means old. Street parking only. Get the nam khao and mango sticky rice!
