My daughter suggested this place that I would be interested as having served in southeast states during the Vietnam war. I love the food over there and I had the advantage of tasting it homemade so when I go to restaurants here I have a little bit more of an educated pallet. The menu is offering quite a few things that I would've liked to have tried, but there will be more visits in the future. So I got my order. I looked at it. The presentation was very nice. Everyone at the table shared with they were eating and I really enjoyed my experience here. I recommend this place to all who appreciate food from this part of the world. I'd like to return here soon.

Previously a Chinese restaurant, now serves dishes with options in Laotian or Thai style. The food was delicious and portions hearty. Food came out quick too! On the main drag in Alameda.

I dined at Bhan Mae Vane with a group of 8 and had the opportunity to try out a large variety of dishes. Between our group, we got Sakoo, Nam Khao, Fried Clear Rice Roll Wraps, Sai Oua (Lao Sausages), Crispy Pork Belly, Pad Kee Mao, and a large side of Sticky Rice. Of the dishes, the Nam Khao was a standout favorite for me. I loved how crispy and crunchy the fried rice was in the dish. There were so many layers of flavors and textures from the fish sauce, the peanuts, and the fermented sour pork. If there's one dish you must order when you stop by here, it's this one. Another dish I really enjoyed was the Sai Oua; I get this dish whenever I see it at restaurants. Although I've had Lao sausages which were very heavy in lemongrass flavor, the ones here did not have the same flavor profile. Instead, the ones here leaned more towards the spicy side. The crispy pork belly was another standout dish for me. If you enjoy Filipino lechon or Cantonese siu yuk, this is another must-order dish. The pork is well seasoned and has the perfect ratio of lean to fatty parts. Overall, I had wonderfully delicious meal. I would certainly recommend coming as a large group so you're able to order a wide variety of dishes. If you're looking for something to really excite your taste buds, head over to Bhan Mae Vane.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]It is a spacious restaurant with a loud atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The tables are spaced closely together so it feels a little tight, but the high ceilings help.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Nam khao - the flavors are nice and doesn't feel too heavy. The fermented pork is light and the peanuts and rice make up a lot of the texture. the rice is crispy, but it is the type of crispy where it sticks together. - pork rinds were fluffy crispy - juicy wings - fresh flavorful sausage - crispy and juicy pork belly Service:3.8 Ambiance:3.5 Food:4.5 The food came out quickly, but the service was slow. They were slow to refill waters.

I've been on a tear lately. I've been finding really good eats. This is only my 2nd-3rd time eating Laotian food so I'm still getting used to it. I like how this place also serves Thai. Here's my take and my favorites: Food (5 stars) + Laos sausage is excellent. It has a hint of sweetness and lots of interesting spices that I cannot make out. Herby in a good way. + Nam Khao is a crispy coconut rice dish. It takes some getting used to as I was just meh the first time having it, but I'm loving it now. I likened this dish to a coconut fried rice with bits of meat. + Chicken curry is a typical Thai dish. I love how it stays piping hot even at the end of our meal. ~ Chicken wings are standard here. I can skip it next time. ~ Seen Lod is a dried beef dish that I thought was just mid. ~ Larb is a Thai salad with lots of meat. It has a hint of sour flavors likely from fish sauce and lime. It's OK for my buds, but not a favorite. Service/Ambiance (4+ stars) + We were a party of 6 and we were seated promptly on a Sunday evening + [[HIGHLIGHT]]Storefront is welcoming with its bright double doors with contrasting gray walls[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] + No problem parking in the back since the spa next door is already closed by dinner time

Mid and expensive. Meat in the Khao Soy was tough and kinda going bad? Tom Kha was overpriced -- what do you mean it's $20 without meat and $4 to add chicken? Took longer to get appetizer than the entrees Pork egg rolls were basically meatless

My favorite dish when I go back home is khao piak so I had to try it here. Broth was flavored well, but it did not have too much noodles with chicken slices. It was mainly all soup. Thai iced coffee tasted similar to Vietnamese iced coffee. The crispy pork belly was yums and I usually have it with sticky rice and Thai chili pepper. Loved that they had a Thai chili pepper mixed fish sauce option. Parking is street parking so a little difficult. No wifi and clean bathroom that looks like a stock room. Will be back to try saku sai moo :) Thanks!

Went for Mother's Day and was not disappointed! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is cute with good customer service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was delicious and portion sizes are quite large. We ordered pad se ew, pad thai, green curry, egg roles, rice ball salad, and the spicy fried chicken wings. Everything was flavorful and would order every item again.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]We came on a Saturday so it was super busy![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However, definitely worth the wait. The yellow curry is so good and I recommend getting it with the side of sticky rice! The fried chicken wings were so crispy! The papaya salad took a really long time but worth it. It was delicious!!!!!! My mom loves this restaurant too!

The spicy fish was one of my favorites, and the tom kha was incredibly rich and flavorful. The pork was also super tender. Between the four of us, we shared a variety of dishes, including their Champa Wings, Nam Kaow, Lao Sausages, Yum Nom Tok, Champa's Fried Rice and Pad Thai. Of these dishes, my favorite was easily the Nam Kaow. This dish had so many layers of flavors and textures. I could honestly eat a whole plate of this myself and be satisfied. Every grain of crispy rice was fried to perfection and there was a wonderful sour and spicy tang throughout each bite. The other dish I really enjoyed was the Lao sausages. These sausages are packed with so many different herbs and spices. The lemongrass flavor was especially prominent. Like the Nam Kaow, this dish also went really well with the fresh mint and lettuce that's provided on the table. There's a good reason why this unassuming Thai and Lao neighborhood restaurant has a line out the door: the food is absolutely delicious. Definitely one of my favorite meals I've had in 2026 -- I can't wait to stop by again.

The decor gives a tropical vibe with lots of greenery and bistro lights. The food, which was amazing, came out quickly for the first 1/2 hour. Then as the place filled up, it took a while to get our dessert. So, if you're in a hurry, I suggest coming early. What we got: + Kids chicken wings - these are crispy wings and drums that have no sauce. The kids ate these up! + Angel wings - more chicken wings, but these are coated in chili sauce. + Curry puffs - these are fried pastry filled with curry potatoes. Kinda like a blend of samosa + empanada. + Phad ke Mao - flat noodles with veggies, chili sauce and basil. Optionally add protein. This was very delicious and one of my favorite dishes. + Broccoli stir-fry - you can optionally add protein. This was your typical broccoli beef (or other protein). + Yellow Curry (with chicken) - again protein is optional. This was really good. The curry was very flavorful with chunks of potatoes and sliced carrots. + Fried bananas and ice cream - the banana is deep fried with a light crispy coating. Was a nice way to end the meal. We enjoyed everything here, and best of all, the kids did too. A really nice family restaurant in a convenient location.

I really loved the interior design. Everything was clean and well put together. The restaurant had a smaller, cozy feeling but still felt spacious enough to sit down and enjoy a meal. My favorite parts were the cultural decorations and paintings throughout the restaurant. Little details like that made the experience feel more authentic. Even the cashier area was beautifully designed and added to the overall atmosphere. Customer Service - 5/5 The service was very good. The server was extremely welcoming and friendly -- I believe she might have been the owner. She greeted us with a beautiful smile and created a warm environment that made the whole dining experience even better. Small interactions like that make a restaurant feel more personal and memorable. Food - 5/5 Dish Ordered: Trei Chlaing Chein Kroeung (Pan Fried Catfish) 5/5 My first time trying Cambodian food, and honestly this was an amazing introduction to the cuisine. This was one of the best fish dishes I have ever had. The fish was cooked perfectly -- crispy golden skin on the outside while staying incredibly tender and flavorful on the inside. The sauce was what brought everything together. It was light with the perfect consistency, not too thick and not too heavy. You could taste the lemon coming through, adding the right amount of freshness and kick. There was a little spice, but not the kind that takes over the dish. It created a wonderful balance where every flavor complemented each other. The combination of the fish, sauce, citrus, and seasoning was simple but executed perfectly. Every bite made me want to keep eating. It was honestly delicious. Would I Order Again: 100% Yes. This is easily a dish I would come back for. No surprise this restaurant was previously Michelin recommended -- you can taste the quality and care behind the cooking. Additional Comment: I've always struggled with the idea that eating healthy means sacrificing flavor. A lot of healthier foods like salads can sometimes feel unsatisfying, but this dish reminded me that food can be both healthy and incredibly delicious when done right. I have passed by this restaurant ever since I was young, and it's amazing to see that it's still here after all these years. Seeing a restaurant with food this good not filled with customers honestly feels like a shame. Great food deserves to be discovered, shared, and supported. From the welcoming service, beautiful cultural atmosphere, and unforgettable food, this was an incredible first experience with Cambodian cuisine. I will definitely be back. This is the kind of restaurant you hope stays around for many more years.

I'm absolutely blown away. I was surprised about how good everything was. Might have been the best…read morefood I've had this year. My family ordered 1 appetizer, 4 entrees, and 2 drinks, all shared, and all 4 of us agreed that EVERY single item was phenomenal. That has absolutely NEVER happened before. At most restaurants, there's always at least one thing that someone doesn't like, and often multiple things that multiple people don't like. Not the case here. The appetizer was the spicy basil wings. Very good to start. But little did I know what was coming my way. The drinks were Thai tea and lychee limeade. The Thai tea was normal. As in good, I liked it. The lychee limeade was amazing, had to order another one. I would like to try the mango next time (there will definitely be a next time). Very sour, which I love. I hate lemonade that's not sour enough. Oh and that too, I usually hate limeade, don't really care for lemonade, and don't drink soda. I usually only drink water, juice, or tea (no coffee, alcohol rarely). So that's saying something. The Laos fried spring roll entree was really good. I always liked fried rolls but something about this tasted better. They were Laotian rolls, so maybe that was part of the difference from the ones you get from Pho restaurants. The duck over rice was amazing. I'm not usually one to pick duck, I don't mind it but I usually don't order it, but this was my mom's choice and it was really good. I like the sauce too. The Panang duck curry was so good. My mom doesn't even like curry and she liked it. And the Chiang Mai soup dish, I've never had anything like it. It was still hot after, I don't know, 20 minutes maybe? At the bottom especially. We all ate this together at the end, while the other dishes were in the order I listed them for myself (mostly, kinda switched around a bit eating family style), and generally the same for everyone else. I tasted a tiny bit of the soup in the beginning and thought it was nothing special, like when my spoon was clean it was the first thing I scooped. Only the soup though, none of the stuff inside. Honestly I didn't read what was in it, some crispy noodle or something. I was not sure if I would like it but my sister said she had it in Thailand and liked it so if I didn't like it she could eat it. That ended up not being a problem. Okay so anyway, we started on the soup at the end. To start, it was pretty good. Somehow, every bite we took tasted better and better, for at least like 5-10 bites maybe. At that point, I was thinking it's the best thing I've ever tasted. (But of course that's probably not actually true, and I'm just falling for the recency bias, kind of like how my favorite song changes all the time.) Never had anything like it. I've been missing out. But wow, I have to come back. And I highly recommend this place. Life changing experience honestly. Like if you asked me right now if I wanted to get Japanese or Korean (my other favorites) food or this, I would go here. I honestly wanted more of every single dish, especially the fried spring rolls, duck over rice, duck curry, and soup. Wait a second... that's all the entrees we ordered! Also the limeade. I need to get that again. But I also want to try other stuff next time so I'm torn. I literally need all 4 of these dishes again so I don't know what to do. I hope these dishes aren't seasonal or otherwise temporary. I noticed the menu had a month and year listed (I think it said April 2026 and it's May 3 2026 today) so I believe they update it frequently. If I lived closer I would come 20 times in a row and try every single thing, but unfortunately I live in San Ramon so it's not like I'm trying to go to Oakland every day. Soon though. My sister lives there, if I were her I would go here every day until I was sick of it, if that could ever be possible. I don't know if I could ever enjoy other food this much again. I was also completely sober so it wasn't like I had munchies or anything (felt I should specify being a young adult who grew up in California). Hmm, that gives me an idea for the future though. Even the pricing is fair (no dishes over $30), and the place is nice. Great service too. The only drawbacks are small tables for parties over 4 people, and it's REALLY loud in the restaurant, but well worth it. If you are sensitive to noise I'd recommend earplugs, earmuffs, earbuds, headphones, or something. The place is also relatively small. I'd recommend making a reservation if you plan to go on a Friday or Saturday night. It got busy, very busy. Well our reservation was at 6 and it wasn't crowded yet, a couple tables open, but by the time our food came out the place was absolutely packed and I think people without reservations had to wait to sit. I'm not sure though, I was too focused on the amazing food to care. Anyway, once again, highly recommend and I will be back.

They did apologize for the long wait time which i appreciate for acknowledging that it did take hella long. The ambiance of the area was nice. It is a food truck and they have a nice area to sit and eat. It is four picnic tables but you have to claim them before others do. If you are with a group, and want to sit and eat, I suggest one person claim a table and the other person(s) orders the food. (What I came here for) The food was amazing which I mentioned to the owner. When I say it is hella good I'm not capping. We ordered Beef sticks with rice but The beef sticks are $3 a piece &The rice is an extra $3, 5 egg rolls but i forgot the prices of each one, and Garlic Shrimp and with garlic noodles. I also had to mention that I was not happy about the 1 hour and 20 minute wait which she apologized again. So Overall my experience was amazing minus the wait time. The food is a but my overall rating is a 4 due to the massive waiting time.

From the calamari, to the tea leaf salad, to the curry, to the sesame chicken & beef, this was a special meal. This is definitely a return spot for me and I was truly impressed with all of the options. There's plenty more for me to try. Don't miss this delicious spot.

Came here with my family for a recent graduation and the food did not disappoint. We started with…read morethe Platha & Dip, which came out hot and flaky with a rich curry dip that I could honestly have eaten on its own. The Burmese Samusas were crisp and golden, perfect with the sweet chili sauce on the side. But the standout for me was the Lotus Root Chips. They were light, crunchy, and came with a creamy dip that kept me reaching for more. Everything was fresh and full of flavor, and you can tell they put real care into each dish. The service was excellent too. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations without ever rushing us. It really added to the whole experience. A couple of small things to note. The space is a little cramped, so it can feel tight when it is busy. And the price is on the higher side, so just go in knowing that. Those are the only reasons I am holding back from five stars. Would I come back? Absolutely. Just maybe for a special occasion when I am ready to treat myself. Highly recommend if you want something a little different and packed with flavor.
