The food was delicious and full of flavor. Everything tasted fresh. The restaurant also had a warm, welcoming atmosphere, and the service was friendly and attentive. We had a great experience and would definitely come back!

I was craving for Thai food and decided to try this place. Interior was modern and has its own personal touch with its culture. We ordered pad see ew, grilled beef salad, crispy garlic pork belly, and thai tea. Everything was delicious. I would say the food here is on the sweeter side than savory. The server was super attentive since we were the only ones. I would come back to try new things on their menu whenever I am near by.

Got a chance to check it out at around 9 PM on a Saturday night and it was really nice that they closed at 10 and opened so late. It was completely empty when we got there and we were the only party to dine in the duration that we were there. We ordered the Curry Roti to share and I ordered the Basil with Beef for myself while my friends ordered the Pad See Ew and Thai Fried Rice. Curry Roti (4/5): I really liked their variety crispness but it was a bit too oily and I wish that it was thicker as well. Basil w/ Beef (4.3/5): Really great flavor and beef was very tender. Pad See Ew (4.5/5): Noodles were very soft but still chewy. Better than most Thai places I've had TBH. Overall, really enjoyed this place and want to encourage more to support this mom and pop dining spot!

I absolutely love Rose Garden in Uptown Oakland. I've only dined in once, but I order pickup, takeout, or delivery from them very often -- it's easily a once-a-week dinner spot for my partner and me. The staff is consistently so kind and welcoming, which makes the experience even better every time. Truly, there isn't a single bad item on the menu. They do an amazing job offering more unique Laotian dishes alongside classic Thai favorites. Some personal standouts are the kor moo yang (grilled pork jowl), grilled beef short rib, mok pa (steamed catfish), and the Lao-style papaya salad -- which is perfectly spicy and packed with flavor. Portions are generous and incredibly filling, and everything is so flavorful and delicious. Even when ordered for delivery, the food arrives fresh and holds up beautifully. Rose Garden is a total gem and I cannot recommend them enough.

I am delighted that this restaurant joined the neighborhood. The food is excellent! The place is comfortable and spacious. The service is warm and pays attention to you. I had the grilled beef short ribs served with spicy tomato-tamarind sauce and the eggplant plate with tofu. The sticky rice was very good with the beef. Yum! I am planning on coming regularly.

No frills Thai restaurant. I decided to eat at the restaurant for Monday night dinner. Seems like they get a lot of takeout orders. I got thai iced tea and the Guay Tiew Kua Gai. It was very tasty but the calamari was a little tougher than I'm used to. The cashier was friendly and food came out pretty fast so service was good. Decent Thai food for a good price.

A great close place to grab a yummy meal from. Lots of great Thai and Laos dishes to choose from. They have lots of pictures of the dishes on the wall to know what each dish is. Orders online and food was hot and ready for pickup. Got the Thai beef jerky which i never had before, very delicious and crunchy. Seating inside is limited, but has enough for small group.

Always saw this place on Yelp close by and decided to finally try it out! Partner and I snagged the last free table on a Monday evening. The place is decently sized but was surprisingly busy for a weekday dinner. We ordered the special Family Platter which included Lao papaya salad, sticky rice, grilled shrimp, grilled pork, beef, and egg. I also got a Thai tea, which was a little too milky for my liking. Good enough for two, my partner and I cleared the platter. Highlights were the grilled pork and two dipping sauces the platter came with. Beef became a little too tough after sitting out for awhile and I wish the platter came with a little more rice as a meal for too. Otherwise, great option to try many options! Solid neighborhood option!

That's probably the best compliment I can pay a restaurant. Don't sleep on the Laotian dishes they are the MVPs of this menu.

Don't sleep on the Laotian dishes they are the MVP of this restaurant. The crispy rice with pork skin ranks in the top ten of dishes I've eaten this year. Heck maybe top 3!

    28. Kao Poon Noodle Soup
    Luna K.

Really cute Thai place! I loved the decor and the vibe of the place. The server we had was very friendly and accommodating. I had the Kao Poon, which is a coconut milk based soup. I asked if it could be made vegetarian with tofu, and luckily, it could be! The roti was delicious and flaky but a bit oily for my liking. All in all though, the menu was huge and there was so much variety to choose from. I would love to try more of their dishes the next time I'm there!

Just a PSA - Unfortunately, I discovered what I wouldn't order again: shrimp spring rolls. The rice paper was broken. And the shrimp was half cooked (still transparent). I like that the rolls were made with avocado, but with taxes it came out to be $14. I don't think the hassle was worth it.

What a diamond to find in the city! This restaurant has authentic, quality Thai food and wonderful service. I even asked for a special order (pad Thai made with WIDE noodles, shrimp chicken and tofu) and it exceeded me expectations.

Unassuming Soba Ichi is such a delicious place for a casual meal…read more I have been to soba Ichi twice at this point. This most recent visit I was able to try the duck breast soba. The duck was juicy and tender and I love the broth they make. The flavor is deep yet the meal is light. Each spoonful of broth is like a savory umami bomb. I love it! This is the type of place where you order at the counter and wait for your meal. I appreciate that they ask if you'd like to sit inside and if so, they will make sure there is a table open for you. My only critique of this place is I tend to still be hungry after finishing a bowl. I wish the portions were a little larger.

Upscale noodle place for soba and assorted Japanese bites. The level of craft here is remarkable…read more The dishes are made from simple ingredients with elegant preparations. We ordered the tofu, cold and hot noodles, tempura, and the weekly special, mochi. The cold noodles were a showcase for the soba noodles themselves -- nutty and earthy in flavor, and toothsome without being gummy. But the broth for the hot noodles was a welcome blend of flavors: sweet, salty, sour, umami at the same time. All while remaining relatively light. It would be easy to sip it all down on its own. (Our nine year old nearly did! We saw other kids there and I suspect they may have done the same.) The tofu came in thick blocks with three separate dressings -- onion, pickled cucumber, and bonito. Each one transformed the creamy bean curd into a different dish. Because the preparations are so simple, the best strategy may be to order a variety of appetizers which cover a range of flavors and textures. Then, hunker down with a couple shared plates of noodles for the entree. This is a place to take it slow and to appreciate the care behind each bite.

The wontons have just the right amount of heat, the noodles are thicccc and chewy, and every dish somehow manages to disappear before we can even think about leftovers. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything you order. One of my favorite parts is watching them make the noodles by hand. Half the restaurant is dedicated to the noodle-making station, while the other half is for seating. It's not a huge dining room, but they do offer the Yelp Waitlist, so you can check the live wait before heading over. The restaurant maybe had 8-10 tables, but had the space to add 3 or 4 more tables. But it was clean, and that's more important to me. I ordered the A1 House Special. It came out in minutes. The crisp pork was exactly that - thinly cut and very crispy. The rest of the topping were fairly typical, as were the noodles and the soup. It was what I wanted - something similar and not too heavy. Service was a lackluster. Friendly enough, but once my food was delivered, I never saw the server again for at least 20 minutes. While I ate, a customer came in, waited 5 minutes and left because no one was there to seat him or take his order. After I finished my meal, I waited to see if the server would come out to give me the bill, but it didn't happen. I had to go to the front counter and get her attention to get the bill. She was busy in the kitchen eating her lunch, I suppose. Overall, a decent visit. I was happy with my meal. I wasn't in a hurry, so I didn't mind the disappearance of the server. This is already on my top five list in a single visit. Went for the basics: beef pho, and salad roll with tofu. I was initially put off by the short menu and few options to add toppings (I didn't see any tendon or tripe for example), and worried it would be too bland or too sweet--but it was not. The broth was deeply flavorful and more savory. Meats were generous and meatballs were exceptional, maybe the best I've had. The basil and sprouts were garden fresh, and unusually, the rice noodles were exceptional, not at all soft or pressed together. I could genuinely taste the love here. It extended to the salad rolls which were generously portioned and used lightly fried tofu which I prefer. One additional note about the broth. It's a richer style than I normally like so I couldn't drink it to the last drop, but I can't fault its great flavor. The service was above average, with a spirited vibe.
