There are famous places in this area for Pate Chaud such as Gala but I find they have too much puffed pastry ratio over stuffing. The Pate Chaud at Champagne is much more balanced and were are some other things we noticed: -Very rich and deep pork flavor and smell. There is something in there preparation and mix that really brings out a rich taste that made this a great pate chaud. -They use a lot of butter in the puffed pastry. The bag immediately started getting oil stains. -Try to get these fresh if you can, they were SO good straight from the oven and when I had leftovers later they weren't as good as when they were fresh. Knead more filling... We've been going here for decades when we're at azn mall. It's been getting worse and worse. The breads by the window don't have any filling in it, especially the one with green onions and pork floss. You can literally count the amount of green onions on the bread and there's barely a sliver or pork floss; same with the bread roll with coconut shreds, etc. read more

The only Asian Bakery located inside the mall that I could find while weaving through the Tet preparation crowds. The shelves were quite bare when we walked through at around 12pm on a Sunday. With a push cart, full of trays of freshly baked pastries, we were able to snag their Bun with Egg Custard, and a Bun with Cheese and Ham. Both warm and slightly deflated looking. For $2.50 each. The custard bun was delicious, the ham and cheese was also a delight. For their deal of Buy 5 get 1 Free, we'll definitely add this as a recurring stop whenever we end up here again! read more

My first time visit to this long time bakery is located inside the Asia Garden mall. The aroma of freshly baked goods greets you. I picked up pork floss green onion bun, taro bun and a sliced cake roll to try and it's all good wish I bought more but will come back when I'm in the area. The cake roll slice is very soft and moist with minimal cream and not too sweet. The taro bun is also soft and the taro filling is not too sweet like from 85* Bakery. I've been coming here ever since I was a baby with my parents. I decided to come back with my boyfriend (who is not asian) to buy some pasteries. The front says card was accepted- perfect , as I had no cash. My boyfriend and I walk in and i grabbed what i needed and was already in line to pay, the people in front of me left and the old rude lady turned her back and didn't even notice us for awhile, mind you- it is just us in this bakery. Its hot, its dirty, whatever. I go to pay and she only accepts cash (seriously?) and I politely told her in viet, that I do not have cash, the second I said that she turns her back to me huffing and does some other stuff. Im standing there baffled, and so is my boyfriend. I shrug it off and tell her i'll put it back, as I put the pastery back and walk out she SCREAMS at me from across the bakery accusing my boyfriend and I of stealing! Cash only bakery located inside the asian garden mall. the pastry looks good but lacks flavor. The green tea or matcha bread has no green tea or matcha flavor, its green in color tho. I think it's probably the owner who's behind the counter but she was rude, as she saw me standing at the register to pay. She decided to grab a tong and started bagging the new baked bread and then move the trays around on the cooling rack. After more people came in she then decided to help me. I guess if you dnt speak the language they don't really care to acknowledge you as when the other people came in she was greeting them all. Every time I come to Little Saigon Asian Garden Mall. I always have to stop here. They have buy five get one free. They have so much selections for pastrie stuffed buns such as Taro bun, pork char sui, bbq pork bun etc. I always buy a lot and take it back home to San Diego. Friendly staff and they are always cooking up batches of food so it's always fragrant inside the store. It looks beaten down on the inside but that's when you know it's good food! Give them a try! Before I patronize businesses, especially restaurants, I almost always check Yelp just so I'm mildly prepared about what the business offers, vibe, prices, etc...This time though I just went to the Asian Garden Mall and this establishment was one of the first businesses when you enter from the back entrance. They have the credit card stickers that indicate they accept it so I went in. All the bread/pastries are pre-wrapped and there are hand made signs letting you know what the breads contain inside--and there are some interesting flavors like Ube, pandan, cheese bread--that kind of thing--some savory some sweet. It's self-serve and in a small space which depending on how many people walk into the store, can also feel cramped. So, like in a short maze, you pick and choose what you want and end up at the cash register where it's time to pay for everything. There's a lady that's rings up the order. I take out my credit card and she shakes her head at me. I'm like, "what?" She looks at my card and says, "no". Sigh. I wanted to argue that I saw the VISA sticker outside...but I just didn't have the energy. I got some breads that totaled $12, so I just fished out my cash (thankfully I had some since I don't usually carry too much), paid and took note. I won't be coming back...just because. So from personal experience: CASH ONLY! Ignore the stickers--apparently, and allegedly. :-P I did try the breads I got, and they were ok. Not anything too remarkable..but like I said, I just don't want to come back. There are other bakeries. But you know, this is a small business and they've been around for a long time. This is my favorite bakery ever. This place is childhood to me I would always go here when I was a baby and now I get to take my baby here. Thankful that they are still open all these years. Do not expect anything fancy it's a hole in the wall (or Asian garden strip mall) with just great baked goods. My favorite things are the cade bread and the raisin coconut bread. This is the only bakery I know that has the cade bread. A soft bread with custard in the middle that's just the perfect amount of sweet and they do not skimp on the custard there's a ton in the middle. The service is great and kind. I have never had to wait in line or wait at the check out always a quick in and out. I always pay with cash and recommend bringing cash there is a fee for card. A few of their breads on a special of buy 5 get 1 free so I always walk out with 12+ breads. read more

If you've ever been to Asia and walked into a mom n pop bakery with hand made goodies, then visit here and you'll be transported the streets of Vietnam! The smell of pastries and bread will guide your nose to the special treats that change daily. Look out for the pandan bread that is colored light green. She makes 1 a handful a day and it reminds me of Asia forsure. Parking is plentiful especially in the rear of the Asian garden mall. Every time I come to the Asian Garden mall, I can't resist stopping by here. I have been coming here as a child. Everything is very reasonably priced here, most pastries ranging from $2.45. If you buy any 5 pastries you get 1 free. My total came out to 11.50 for 6 pastries! I got cheese hot dog (always a must), jalapeño ham and cheese bun, custard bun, pork bun and mini garlic hot dog buns. While it's definitely not 85 degrees bakery, it's not bad either. The selection is smaller, but what they lack in selection, they have plenty of to offer with regards to filling. My favorite choices here: BBQ Pork Baked Bun - Champagne does not skimp on the fillings - there's plenty of sweet-BBQ flavored meat stuffed in the soft and buttery bun. Chicken Curry Bun - you can taste the rich curry taste, the meat is dark meat, rather than white meat - so while it's definitely flavorful, it's also a bit more fattening. Pudding Bread - This sorta reminds me of the egg custards you can get from Dim Sum restaurants, only it's more flat, and more wider. It's a flaky crust with a big egg pudding center. Prices are good - range from $1.75 to $2.00 per pastry - they have a ongoing promo - Buy 5, get 1 Free - the lady was nice enough to remind me to pick up my free one last time I was here, so that's a plus. I used to come here as a child so I have fond memories but this last trip was really eye opening. First of all, it was HOT in there! Miserably so. Like..is this even safe food handling? They have plastic tarping up between the cash register and the narrow aisle. Why? Not sure as it only went from the counter to about chin level. The woman working was super rude. I tried to hand her my tray and she gestured to the side of the counter where she wanted me to place it...I was the lift the tarp to place the tray. Then I tried to order a milk tea (you know, the ones that are advertised with hand written signs about 12 times around the shop) and she said "NO I DONT HAVE THAT" ok fine. I'll just pay for this coconut bread and pandan pastry. While I was paying, my 3 year old daughter picked up an egg tart and asked me for it. The woman behind the counter FREAKED OUT that my three year old was holding the pastry. I took it out of her hand and put it back on the tray and the lady legit picked it up and smushed it! Like what? These pastries are wrapped and sitting out! Anyway, I'm probably never coming back. Been coming here since I was a little girl which means this bakery is around for at least 20 years and was pleasantly surprised to see its still around. I still remembered the French horns filled with cream with it flaky, crisp shell. Came here late as we were going to the night market so many items were already sold. I was surprised at the low price of the pastry. I bought the pandan roll for $5.80; awesome deal for the size. It was very fluffy and tasty. Will come back another time buy/try other pastries. I have't had a good chasu bao for a long time so I tried this place while shopping the mall. I got the baked curry chicken and steamed barbecued pork baos (buns) here. I thought they were a bit on the small side for the prices. IMHO, the fillings were minimal and the barbecue pork left an aftertaste in my mouth for quite a while. Poor selection of the Asian-style breads we are used to seeing in other Asian bakeries. They do sell buns and 'man tous' as well. On top of the baked goods, they also sell snacky stuff and cakes by the slice. The smell lured me in, but nothing grabbed my attention enough to wanna eat it. read more

Greasy & Yeasty I agree with Ching C. on this one, why are there so many haters? Champagne Bakery is an awesome little place to purchase some tasty breads, buns, and other Vietnamese baked goods. The price range is average for these types of goodies @ about $1.25 to $2.00 for single items. The selection isn't the biggest but I can find a lot of my favorites here. I've been to plenty of bakeries like this one and I must say Champagne is generous in the portion department and don't lack on any of the key ingredients. For example, my taro bun had a nice thick ball of that light purple stuff. While other places don't nearly come close to being as plentiful. In my opinion, the quality and taste is good though there's always room for improvement. If your accustomed to another bakery, just be warned and your discretion is advised. :) Everything I've had here was good but of course they are at their best when fresh &/or straight out the oven. Even so, I would buy what I wanted and pop them into the toaster oven @ home for a yummy, fresh-tasting treat. read more

Hidden gem - this bakery is extremely affordable and has really fresh pastries all day. It's a small bakery, but their quality is very good. By comparison, 85 degrees is a lot more expensive and less filling. I would definitely come support this family business again. I was looking at all the goodies, there was the requisite egg custard mini pie/tart which is always a crowd pleaser... an individual chicken pot pie whose crust looked so flaky... I skipped all those and went with something that I don't usually see in other bakeries, you know, to give me something to back to. But I didn't like them. I saw a lady packaging this soft roll filled with the same custard filling you put in a cream puff. It was large and came right out of the kitchen. It was just below "OK." I felt I wasted my caloric budget on it. Then there was this taro ball. If you're Filipino, the closest thing I could compare it to is "hopia" or "moon pie" for the Chinese. I'm surprised that the reviews of this establishment aren't better. They had a great selection of pastries and buns and the prices were reasonable. I came here specifically for steamed bbq pork buns, but also picked up steamed pork/egg buns (more on that later), baked bbq pork buns, taro buns, and Palmiers AKA "Butterfly" cookies. I had to ask for the steamed buns since they were on a rack behind the counter. Me, "Do you have BBQ pork buns...like dumplings." Didn't know proper name was "steamed." She grabbed me a package and said do you want BBQ or combo? Since Variety is the spice of life, I opted for combo thinking it would be BBQ and something else. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Unfortunately, the pack of 6 steamed buns were all egg/pork "combo" and NO BBQ. Thankfully, they were yummy so i am not totally heartbroken. The coconut, raisin didn't have the flavor I thought i was going to have, but it was yummy and the bread was amazingly soft!!! The taro bun was good! Told my boyfriend it tasted nasty so he wouldn't try any. It didn't work, he ate some. :( The egg custard was our favorite because of the great flavor, smooth texture, and the bread just bounces right back after you bite into it all while keeping it's softness.
