Seared black pudding
Cam T.

Overrated in my opion, I was expecting more just because it's an Alain Ducasse restaurant. The restaurant looks and feel very modern but, to me, it's just a big space that could be a restaurant anywhere in the world. It doesn't have the cozy feeling when you think of a French restaurant. It has large windows and no blinds to block the sun that was shining right in our eyes. This should be an easy fix to improve guests' comfort. Plus, this was the only time that we experienced the infamous snooty Parisian service. Let me start off with the Moscow mule. It was served in a glass instead of a copper cup. That is a big no no in my books. It tasted like lemonade. Then the escargot appetizer. It tasted deep fried and they served it out of the shell, which made them even tougher. The sauce was overly herbaceous...just didn't pair well with the snails. As for my main. I ordered the seared black pudding, served with apples. I enjoyed the black pudding but the apple slices and baked apple did not do it for me. My wife had a pasta with ham, Comte cheese and truffle. I must admit this dish was quite delicious. It was just rich and decadent. If you were hungry, this will fill you right up. Unfortunately, we were both put off by the service and too full full to try one of their well known soufflés. Next time I'm in Paris again, I'm willing to come back and try a soufflé.

This was my first place we ate when we arrived in Paris and was recommended to us by our hotel concierge. I would describe as a very modern French Bistro. The ambiance was modern, colorful , trendy . The ever changing " metro " board was a really nice feature I've never seen in any restaurant before. We ordered the hanger steak which was cooked to perfection and the chicken for 2, which was very lemony but amazing. Service was okay, Lunch for 3 came to 103 Euros , and we did not order wine.

Chocolate soufflé

Came to Paris and had a list of places to try. Champeaux being one of the many. The place is quite big and roomie. We were quickly seated and then waited....for quite a bit. Our waitress finally came and we ordered an onion soup, ham/Comte/black truffle croquillette pasta, fries and to finish a chocolate soufflé. Accompanied with two glasses of wine. We had asked our waitress for the fries first then the rest. Instead the pasta and soup came out first. Then our wine, after we reminded her 10 minutes after lunch had arrived. Food: Great pasta! The black truffle was well balanced within the pasta. The onion soup was not THE best but it was very good. Fries a bit over cooked but still good. Holy moly the soufflé was amazing. It was so fluffy and accompanied with chocolate ice cream. I'll come back just for that! The service: not good at all. We had to find her to remind her about the wine. We had to find her when I asked to see the menu again...which I did not receive and had to get myself. We had to find her to order our chocolate soufflé. To sum it up: come here for the soufflé and pasta. If you like service to be a presence then perhaps choose another place.

We went looking for soufflé, but they're only served during lunch & dinner. They're open all afternoon, but with a small menu. Even though we did not get soufflé, we loved our meal here. Service was awesome. Chilled rose champagne, perfection! I tried a pasta dish with elbow macaroni, ham & Comte cheese that was absolutely amazing. My husband enjoyed the cheese platter, with generous portions. We shared pistachio gelato for dessert. Overall, great late lunch experience.

I enjoyed my dinner. Menu features "lighter" French fare and I enjoyed steamed "meagre" fiket (similar to Dorado fisb) served with pureed peas. Had a green salad on the side and the house bread was complimentary and a tasty nutty multigrain. Dining companion gave a thumbs up to his steak with peppercorn saunce. I had to get the souffle and chose the strawberry verbena. Its was oerfectly cooked but would have like more herbal verbena flavor. Our server waa friendly and helpful. She rexommended my wine - an dry mineral white that complimented my meal. Atmosphere was casual and modern and convenient central location.

This is my 2nd time here in two years as a visitor from the US. The restaurant is wonderfully creative and the food preparation is spot on - not to mention their craft cocktails. Can't wait to come back!

Wonderful experience. Great food and atmosphere. Very sweet young waiter who was very attentive and efficient. Highly recommend when you are in the Les Halles area of Paris

We really enjoyed our dinner. We waited to be seated in the lounge area by the entrance at the restaurant dinner opening. We never received a cocktail menu until after we had ordered a bottle of wine at the beginning of our meal. The concept is a contemporary brasserie in the newly renovated Forum des Halles La Canopée shopping/Metro area. The restaurant is large, spacious, casual, and clean. A very different vibe from his other restaurants. Lighter and more contemporary than Alain Ducasse's other concepts. Our food was very flavorful, fresh, and delicious. Excellent wine selection. Save room for the pièce de résistance and signature dish...the sweet and light pistachio salted butter caramel Soufflé. Devine!! Service was friendly. Make reservations on-line. www.restaurant-champeaux.com

The richness of the flavor and the texture which is not reminiscent of the traditional roasted duck or foie gras, but rather a much more like a luxurious and indulgent version. We enjoyed our dinner on the outside of the restaurant after about a 20-30 minute wait. The bone marrow had the best flavor I've experienced for the dish. However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. We even came back on our last night, but didn't realize the hours on Google maps was for the deli. The restaurant closes earlier, before 9:00 PM. This meal got us thinking about Paris in a positive light, and we hope to be able to come back to eat the amazing dishes again!

As a Chinese, I understood more than 50% of the conservations (Chinese). Which doesn't mean anything about the food. Just observation. Onion soup - 2 stars. First, the cheese failed to emit the baked, melted gruyere cheese, there is no aroma at all. I don't think they used gruyere cheese. May be mozzarella cheese. The worst part was the bread in the soup. It tasted stale which ruin the flavor of the soup. I had to finish without the bread. Escargot - Another disappointment. What made escargots special was the garlic butter and herb. Here, there were the herbs, no garlic, and French is famous with their butter but I taste oil but not buttery. Other places I actually get excited dipping the bread into the garlic butter but not here. Pan seared Foie gras - The quality of Foie Gras was definitely there. It's not as well seared as I hope but they managed to cook it through without overcooking it. The size of Foie Gras is kind of scary, it's like a small piece of rib eye steak. With just the onion soup and Foie Gras, I could barely swallow anything. Generous portion.

On the other hand, it made me realize that my mother was a terrible cook. Bistro des Augustins is a small, cozy venue offering both indoor seating and terrace seating near Pont Neuf. It serves a small number of curated dishes, including a wonderfully traditional Bistro Gratin in a homey ceramic dish served piping hot with a brown crispy cheesy top, herbs, spices and chicken. You can also get it with salmon. My brothers and I only saw my mother use our gas range to light her cigarettes, sanitize needles to remove our splinters, and make s'mores during the summer months when she couldn't muster the energy to take us 'outside camping.' I mean, all she had to do was borrow a cookbook, which I'm sure were readily available from maybe a neighbor or in any local bookstore or the public library. How hard is that? I was the only kid who brought a can of tuna and his own monogrammed can opener to school every day. Every day. And mom convinced me that the tuna holster she got me for my birthday was cool and hip. I was a naive mercury-filled fool, although I did become a very fast runner in junior high school because of the tuna holster. The interior décor of Bistro des Augustins is informal and vintage bistro style - wooden tables, traditional chalkboard menus, and soft lighting - creating a relaxed and comfy ambiance. My eyes have been opened to what's possible. Thank you Bistro des Augustins for expanding my culinary horizons. Five stars.

THE FOOD ------------------…read more= Fermier - Cheese gratin with chicken was good. Didn't blow me away, but was solid with the creaminess of the sliced potatoes and emmental cheese combined together with mixed vegetables. The cheese was very strong though, so anything else was unfortunately pretty much overpowered by it. Arrived with bread, but it DEFINITELY could use other carb options to sop it all up (e.g., rice???)! = Landais - Cheese gratin with duck. Same comment as the above, except the Landais had egg and goat cheese also mixed in with almost the same ingredients as the Fermier. THE SERVICE ----------------------- + The lone waitress, who also worked the role as greeter, cashier and bartender was friendly. + Food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. THE SURROUNDINGS ------------------------------------ = Small, tight restaurant. = Not many tables inside - 6 in total. + Located a few blocks away from the more touristy restaurants, towards the East, on a much quieter street. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = Nada.

We started with Oeufs mayonnaise, which is a hard boiled egg topped with mayo. This was quite a simple dish, but definitely got us prepped for the meal. They initially made a mistake on our order and sent us the veal fingers. After rectifying the mistake, they ended up comping it, so we got an additional appetizer to try. The fried fish went well with the tartar sauce. For the mains, we got the bavette frites with bearnaise sauce and steak tartare with frites. Both dishes were delicious and satisfying, the flavors were excellent and each bite had me wanting more. If you haven't tried tartare before, give it a try here because it was delish! For dessert, we shared the Paris-Brest, a choux pastry topped with mousseline, pralines and roasted hazelnuts. We enjoyed sharing it and it made for a sweet end to our dinner. Overall, this was a great meal to start our trip, everything we had was delicious and my expectations were met!

Vibey 30 somethings and those of us tourists that have begrudgingly figured it out. It is close quarters inside, but when in Rome. My bestie from middle school and I shared the escargot (bless you) pasta, which was delicious, and the duck, which was exceptional. We split a very fairly priced bottle of wine and ended the night with the scoop of mousse. If they could figure out how to do that intravenously, that'd be great. The mousse reminded me of a great guilty pleasure, which is eating straight out of the can of Duncan Hines chocolate frosting (ask me how I know, I do this often, going to rebrand it to me being European). The menu features French classics and there are vegetarian options. To be honest, maybe I'm not the best to right this review because French food isn't my favorite - regardless, my main complaint is just that the food lacked the extra flavor I was hoping for but it was still solid. The Ravioli Dauphine was perfectly cheesy, just needed some extra salt. The Chickpea Fries and Warm Goat Cheese were nice starters, and I liked the bread basket that was given freely - especially the inclusion of a walnut raisin bread. NOW, the star of the show and the reason you're probably here: the Chocolate Mousse. Yes it is worth the hype. Only complaint - we had some leftover and they refused to box it for us.
