The customer service, the vibe, and the selection are all sooo good. I got into board games about a year ago, and discovering that you can play games for free in-store or rent from their huge selection for a small fee was a game changer. It really helped me and my partner figure out what kinds of games we liked before committing to a purchase. Every time I'm in, or whenever I have questions, the employees are so accommodating and kind. You can tell they genuinely know their stuff about every game they carry. They're also dog friendly, inclusive, creating a really welcoming community that i really appreciate!

As soon as I walked in, I was immediately greeted. They asked if I was looking for anything and was shown to the card sleeve section. I've been to multiple stores that specialize in cards. Why was this the ONLY place where I found a large assortment of card sleeves for players!! Lol I met Anna(?) or Ann, and customer service was amazing, gave all information I was asking for, and showed me the weekly schedule. I am more of a mega competitive player (but not a sore winner ;-)), so I wanted to know what their schedule looked like, what is their most supported game, etc. I believe this is a more chill, casual, friendlies kind of vibe (not a bad thing at all), and I'd be open to doing more drafts or pre-release kits or something. Hoping to bring in my coworkers and friends! I can tell that they care very much about making sure they can support their community and create an inclusive and healthy space. Masks are not a big deal for me, they're effective especially nowadays with allergies, new viruses, whatever lol Lots of different card games in stock and tabletop games for rent, a cute dog and a big space for players.. but what really made things great was speaking with Al about Witch Hat Atelier. I've been to a lot of comic book stores, and I'll see the "Favorite Picks", but that's about it. Al and I talked about it, we went through the art, explained the intro, and it really brought me in. Al's passion for stories really made me want to look at this series. I didn't buy it, but I can honestly say that I'd love to come back to the store to find out what the next big thing is Al will share with me. I can sense that these folks are passionate, accommodating, and personable. Hoping for further successes!

I picked up two blind boxes during my visit. While the selection was nice, I wouldn't recommend buying them here. They were priced at $20 each, but the same ones are available online at Amazon or Target for around $14. That's about a 43% markup, which feels steep for the exact same product. If you're just looking to window shop or kill some time, it's a nice place. But for actual purchases--especially for anything you can find online--you're better off checking prices first.

Despite the fact I hate waiting for TCGplayer and haven't had a great experience with them overall, I'd much rather go through them than support a business that seems to scalp and price gouge. The store has a fantastic selection of books and is very well organized, which makes browsing easy and enjoyable. I always love seeing staff picks in bookstores, and this place had plenty across a great variety of genres. They also offer a book buyback program for store credit, which is a fantastic option for readers who prefer to keep their shelves from overflowing. They also carry used books at discounted prices. I personally love used books because they have character, and the bindings are already nicely broken in, which makes them even easier to read. Leigh's Favorite Books also earns our unofficial award for the best non-book inventory of any bookstore in California. Most shops carry the usual boring gift-store items, but this place had a genuinely fun and unique selection. They had such a fun assortment of random items that we wanted to purchase just about everything they had lol. The service from Becky was exceptional. When I mentioned that I read across many genres and especially enjoy biographies, she personally recommended one and even wrote the title down on a sticky note for me. When we talked about our road trips visiting bookstores, she also suggested a trip to Vermont, where you can get a bookstore passport stamped along the way. She was incredibly friendly and great to talk with. We can't wait to come back and pick up more books.

The art of reading physical books and the wonderment of the theater of the mind conjuring up vivid imagery and a unique perspective is the lost art of use of the imagination with reading. The way you might interpret stories like "Dune", "Harry Potter" or any books turned into film/movie adaptations is way more vivid when you read the book than watch the movie. It's not bad when you're in the area, but if you're a tourist and want a more comprehensive Kino experience, I would say your best bet is the Japantown SF location. The store was clean, fully stocked, and the employees were friendly and helpful. Prices matched those at other Walmart locations. Parking was easy to find in the spacious, private parking lot, and the store is conveniently located just off the US 101 freeway.
