Smoked Sausage, Cheese & Pickle Plate Mississippi Delta Homemade Hot Tamales (Half Dozen)

I wanted to like Champy's more than I did. The atmosphere is the first thing you notice. Dollar bills cover the walls and reading the notes on them is honestly fun. That part works. The problem is the cleanliness. Tables and floors felt neglected and the bathrooms were straight up filthy. That alone hurt the experience. Service was fine at best. The server showed up, took orders, and dropped food. No warmth. No real attention. It felt like she was counting down the minutes until her shift ended. Food was a mixed bag. The tamales ($8.00) came out hot and fresh, which is a good start. Flavor was missing. The sauce did all the work. Without it, they were bland to the point of tasting like bottled water. The mac and cheese was average. The noodles were cooked right. The cheese sauce had no personality. No seasoning. Nothing memorable. The chicken tenders ($14.00) were done right. Fresh. Crunchy on the outside. Juicy inside. For a fast casual spot, this was a win. The chicken and sausage gumbo ($12.00) was easily the best thing on the table. Great flavor. Proper spice. This is the dish they should be proud of. The issue is portion balance. Way too much broth and not enough chicken, sausage, or rice. It felt like an 80 percent liquid bowl. Flavor was there, value was not. Also odd detail, real fork for coleslaw, plastic spoon tossed into the gumbo bowl. Overall, Champy's has a fun vibe and one strong dish, but it gets dragged down by cleanliness issues, lackluster service, and bland sides. I left feeling underwhelmed.

When ever I come to Chattanooga. I gotta eat at Champy's. I had quite a long time to kill. So I stopped off here. I ordered 3 tamales. They were great as always, just enough spice, but not over powering. Then I ordered chicken tender, fries and a order of hush puppies. The food came at fresh, hot and yummy. They were also nice to me. I had several hours to kill before catching my shuttle back to Atlanta. I've always enjoyed the unique decor at champy's.

Best fried chicken tenders I've ever had hands down 10/10. Clean establishment Our hostess was amazing and friendly atmosphere.

I decided to stop through on the way back to Atlanta, it's in a great location right off of 75. The waitress was nice and the atmosphere was very casual. It looks very busy on the inside with lots of bills and other artifacts, almost a bit junky. The service was quick, the waitress was very friendly, and the chicken was awesome! It was well seasoned, well cooked, and crunchy. The sides, which consisted of slaw and baked beans, came as a meal but you can switch sides. Both the beans and slaw were pretty good too. I tried an Old Fashioned drink and it was surprisingly good as well. Overall, the prices were excellent and the food and service were very good. I would definitely go back... wish they had a spot in Georgia!

    2lbs of Crawfish Boil

My boyfriend and I were staying in a hotel nearby and thought Champy's looked like it might be a cool spot! Luckily, we were right! We started with 2lbs of crawfish. I had never had them before, but I'm a lover of seafood. Everything on this plate was unbelievably delicious. I will think about the crawfish once a week for the foreseeable future. The whole platter was seasoned to perfection. After the crawfish, we split a plate of chicken bites that came with two sides. We asked for a double side of their macaroni and cheese. The chicken bites were juicy, and the batter was a mixture made of magic. It was the perfect consistency. It wasn't too thick, or crunchy. It was just right! We ordered some buffalo sauce and ranch for dipping sauce, and both of the sauces tasted like they were made from scratch. We both loved the macaroni too! I wish I had more photos of the chicken and macaroni, but we dove in, and I forgot! Our server Taylor was very kind and great about checking in on us throughout the meal. We always had plenty of refills, napkins, and the opportunity to ask her for anything. She was fantastic! If we weren't completely full when we left, we would have probably tried the Key Lime pie that looked like heaven on earth. We just didn't have room this time. P.S. They have coke products! This is always my preference when I want pop, so that gave Champy's even more points from me!

Champy's chicken tenders are unarguably one of the best! This location was able to manage our larger party super well and the food came out in no time and tasted amazing. We also had the Mac and cheese which we highly recommend. Also get the champys sauce. YUM!

Great random find right off the highway. Was visiting a client and ran into this place by accident. Glad I did! Amazing fried chicken, great service. Will be back when I'm in Chattanooga again. Found it odd-but also cool that the entire staff is all good looking females. Reminds me a bit of Twin Peaks, without the raunchiness. Highly recommend the Tamales. Yum!

    3 chicken tenders and fries

I love stopping by a champys location when I'm in Chattanooga. The tenders have a little hint of heat, but hot overpowering. The batter is crisp but still holds the crispness over time. The staff is ultra friendly and gets out your food in a flash. A great choice when in Chattanooga!

Always great food and service. We love their outdoor patio space. We got their crawfish this time and it was delicious.

We stopped for a quick bite to eat here on our road trip to Livingston TN and it was the perfect spot. They have outdoor seating and allow dogs which was great for us since we had just picked up our puppy. They had a decent selection of drinks as well! We both ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and it was super crispy yet juicy on the inside and with pickles on it too was a great combo. It wasn't too spicy but had a slight kick to it. My boyfriend got the French fries which were good and crispy, and I got the potato salad which was the perfect amount of creaminess and crunch! It had some seasonings on top but it was not spicy. The waitress was super friendly and it was quick service. I'd definitely return here!

This neat beer bar reminds me of the crowler shops that you used to find around Atlanta, with around 30 taps containing about a thrid local beer, so you can sample several local breweries without visiting each one (they're mostly not too near each other so this is very convenient). The taproom "beertender" seemed to be fairly knowledgeable regarding the various offerings - there's also a convenient list highlighting the different beers with style notes. We sat at the bar and were able to bring in some food from the nearby restaurants (I grabbed some wings at the nearby Marthie Ann's which were excellent). To drink I tried Hoptown's own Orange Mango Wheat - a somewhat basic wheat beer with hings of sweet tangerine and mango - nothing special. I had a Maine Brewing "Lunch" with the wings which is always a winner - it's an exceptional New England IPA. Casual, colorful, the kind of spot where you expect someone to walk in wearing flip flops and carrying a fishing pole. Comfortable vibe. Easy place to settle in and see what the fryer can do. First up were the fried green tomatoes. They came out looking like they'd just won a beauty pageant. Crispy outside, tender inside, cooked exactly right. Texture nailed. But flavor-wise they felt like they forgot their gym bag at home. Needed salt. Needed a little personality. A rare moment where the fryer did its job but the seasoning clocked out early. Then the headliner arrived. The fried chicken at Champy's Famous Fried Chicken has a reputation to protect, and thankfully it shows up ready to work. Crisp, flavorful crust. Juicy inside. The kind of chicken that crunches just enough to make everyone at the table look over and get jealous. "If the deep fryer had a Hall of Fame, Champy's chicken is getting a first-ballot vote." And then came the move that sealed the deal. A dip into Champy sauce. Suddenly the flavor level jumped another notch. Salty, tangy, just enough punch to make the crust shine even more. The sleeper hit though? The cole slaw. Creamy, balanced, and actually refreshing next to all the fried goodness. It's the quiet kid in class who ends up acing the exam. Easy to overlook, but absolutely worth ordering. Now for the tiny curveball. I happened to land there on karaoke night. And let's just say... the speakers believed they were performing at an arena concert. Loud enough that conversation required leaning halfway across the table and reading lips. On the flip side, the crowd was clearly having a blast. A few genuinely good singers, a few that were more... enthusiastic than talented, and plenty of people cheering them on. Honestly, respect to anyone with the courage to grab a microphone in a room full of strangers. So no star deductions for that. The people who showed up to sing were having the time of their lives. Bottom line, Champy's Famous Fried Chicken is a fun place with seriously good fried chicken. Order the bird, grab the slaw, lean into the fried side of the menu, and enjoy the show if karaoke happens to be on the schedule. Just maybe bring your singing voice... or your earplugs.

Just a little bit of heat from the buffalo sauce. Highly recommend. Everything else was pretty good. The chicken was tender, and good crisp to the outside, and good seasoning. The catfish was pretty good too although they were pretty thin so didn't get quite as much of the crunch to tenderness contrast that I like in a catfish. Also, their tartar sauce is too sweet. I prefer more tang on the sauce. I think the sauces run sweet as I thought the champy sauce was a little too sweet over mustard-y. Good fries with great texture and seasoning. I also got the green bean sides which were a little soft but great, depth of flavor as it was clearly cooked with pork. The potato salad was good if not memorable. The kids loved the banana pudding. A little too much of the cream and not enough pudding but otherwise worth getting. All in all a strong chicken spot to visit while in Chattanooga.
