I have had membership for several years and really enjoy using the weight room. Good variety of equipment. The price is cheaper for a family of seven. The location is great and I can either ride my bike or walk as an alternative to using my car. The bonus is that my kids can play sports at a lower rate than other clubs. read more

When my son first started attending the YMCA summer camp over a year ago, he was shy and struggled to make friends. He has been attending camps and after school for over a year and is outgoing and has friends. He has gained so much confidence and has made great connections. Ashley and her team have made such a huge impact on him, and he has made amazing memories and friendships. My daughter attended the Early Learning program and is one of the most prepared children in her kindergarten class. Her confidence and ability to focus and follow directions I believe are due to her time spent in the Y academy class at the YMCA. The Early Learning program offers classes for all preschool kids and it's a great way for them to get introduced to other children and make friends and learn about a school like setting prior to starting school. I love the engagement classes they offer for all ages. My kids love Susie and Gaby and the classes they did with them. The staff I have come into contact with have all been nice and welcoming. read more

DONT SEND YOUR KID TO THE EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM! I have witnessed multiple employees being physical with children and using such harsh tone. I've seen them holding down kids with their legs forcing the child to lay down for naptime, picking up and setting down small children in an extremely rough manner. I have reported these issues to managers, but I still am seeing these things happen by the same employees! I've had a countless number of times where my child has had their clothes ruined with bleach spots from the changing table. I have expressed my frustration way too many times and nothing has changed, and no compensation has been offered. I have even picked up my child with poop in their diaper and it seemed to have been there for a while. *I attached just a few of my child's ruined cloths* Not sure where they are getting their cold and hot lunches from, but I wouldn't feed that crap to my dog...it defiantly does not look edible and there never seems to be big enough portions for each child. Sucks especially since you are paying for their meals in their enrollment fee. The value of childcare just seems to be super low here and I am honestly not sure how they still have a license. if I could give 0 stars I would. I am baffled. My daughter started attending their summer camp on last Monday on 6/17. My daughter is 4 years old. This is her first summer camp she has ever been to. She has the most spunky, fun, bubbly personality and loves everyone. On 6/24 my daughters dad went to go pick her up for the first time, they have never seen his face nor knew who he was and he was not ID'd to pick up our daughter and they released her. Today 6/26 I went to go drop my daughter off and piece of paper had fallen on the ground when I went to sign her in, I bent down to pick it up to see what it was to set it back on the counter, and it had my daughters name on it. Lo and behold it was an incident report from 6 days ago, that I had never been told about nor even said anything about it to myself or her dad. When I confronted the teacher she said "It's been in the book". No it has not because we sign her in twice a day everyday and not once have I seen this big sheet of paper showing an incident report. I instantly signed my daughter out and she will not be going back to this facility. This is by far the WORST experience I have had. My 4 year old daughter is extremely sad and has been telling me people are being mean to her, and she didn't even want to go the last day in a half and I couldn't figure out why she was saying that. IT ALL MAKES SENSE. This facility does not call you when your kids are injured in their facility, nor even mention it upon pick up, and be careful sending your children here because they also do not ID people picking your child up. I have been bringing my baby to the Early Learning program at the Chandler/Gilbert YMCA since July. I am extremely satisfied with his level of care. The infant room teachers care about my child and send me pictures and updates each day. I can message them any time I need to know how he is doing or if I have questions. When I first became a member of the Y I was unaware of how many great programs they offer to benefit our community. My children LOVE the ninja gym and look forward to their class every week! I love utilizing the fitness center and walking with a friend while the kids do their ninja or basketball practice through their legacy league program. Very Family Friendly! My 4 year old loves the preschool and all the awesome family engagement classes make it easy to have her engaged with some extra curriculars without having to run around after work. This is a nice facility and the people working here are friendly and helpful.There are a variety of membership options (family, teen, individual) and they have a wide variety of team sports for the younger ones in your life. The workout room is impressive and I've never seen it packed, which means no waiting for the machine you need. There are also some classes, although most are not great in terms of times for those working or going to school. read more

Fairly nice YMCA location. I've been visiting from out of town and didn't know if I could use my Indy-based membership while out here. I called ahead, and the guy I spoke with [a Hoosier native himself!] was friendly. I was a little confused upon arrival where the entrance was since there is no explicit sign that points you towards the main doors. I'll have to bring my swimsuit next time since this location has a pool! The front-desk girls were nice, but seemed a little air-headed, uninterested in their job. I assumed [my error] the girls would walk me around the Y since I've experienced that before at other Y's, and I plan to visit the Valley quarterly per year. Not the case - I had to flat out ask one where the main workout area was after just being pointed in the general direction. Maybe I caught the two girls on their off-day? read more

The Chandler YMCA is a joke they are closed more than they are open, it's more of a day care center than an exercise facility. After Christmas the freaking place is closed for over a week, seriously after you stuff your face on Christmas you can't bounce back in a day or two to workout, let alone a freaking week actually 8 days before the place opens up again. Will take your 50 dollars a month but we are closed more than we're open. read more

The front desk staff is fantastic. Always a smile and remembers our name. The cardio area and free weights are plentiful, well organized and easy to use. The locker room needs updating. Showers are trickling. The pool and lifeguards are the problem. The pool is very old and small, the lifeguards are like dealing with the mean girls. Immature, won't smile at you or make eye contact unless they are rolling those eyes back in their head when you are asking questions. The pool is theirs, and you are in the way. My stepdaughter has passed her swim test many times each season, despite swimming 600-800 yards when we visit. When swim lessons or swim team is using the pool, you are made to feel like an intruder. Took the cake tonight when they shut down the pool because of wind. They couldn't see the drains. I could see the diamond markers on the bottom from 50 yards. The other YMCA had their pool open. These guards just didn't want to work in the cold wind. If you are here for the pool, which we are go to Ahwatukee. Lifeguards are much friendlier. Ahwatukee is open all winter and the guards brave the elements. It's a shame, because the overpriced membership goes to support great programs for the area's youth, but some common customer courtesy is needed at the pool. read more

I've been here for a while now and it's been a good experience until today. First, let me say that everyone is very, VERY, nice. Parking isn't bad and there is even some covered parking. It's not busy(unlike other places I've been to that are jam packed) from 8-10:30(the time I'm there) and everything is clean and nice. So everything was going nice. Today, I tried to sign my daughter up for this Friday's date night. You get to drop your kids off and they do activities. I already told my daughter about it and now I've got to figure out how to tell her it's not happening. The reason? They cut it off at 25 kids and it's full. Now if that's where the story ended I wouldn't have given it a second thought. It was what it is and I didn't sign up in time. My fault. . But, when I asked to sign up at the front counter I was told by the super nice guy there that it was full but just ask the lady who runs the child care center and see if she will make an exception. Now maybe I read him wrong but it seemed to me like it would not be a big deal. I think most of us have been in that situation before. Someone tells you something might happen and they say it like it's no big deal or they say it like it probably won't happen but ask anyway. Again, to me it came across as no big deal and again maybe I read him wrong. So I go back to the lady in charge and I mention Friday night. I never said they told me to ask about making an exception I just mentioned signing up. She told me no it was full and that was pretty much it. So what am I suppose to think? Maybe I'm wrong but I take that stuff personally. Because we all know darn well they could take one more kid. We all know if it was a personal friend or someone close they would have made the exception. It makes me think they play favorites. I'm just be honest with how I feel. How would you, as a customer feel? Maybe I'm wrong? And I know what some of you will say. I should have signed up sooner. I agree. But I was sick a lot of last week and I had a surgery this week. So it's not like I had a ton of time and it wasn't at the front of my mind. So overall the place has been nice but I'll probably be casually looking for a new place. I know how I am and this will eat at me every time I come here now and it'll tick me off. read more

Nice, clean, air conditioned building with outdoor pool. Perfect for AZ. My 14 yr old has played 3 seasons of YMCA competitive volleyball here (to stay active when jr high volleyball season ended) and it's been great. You can work directly with the sports director Mike Partel to get your player on the 'best fit' team that matches their skill level. Both Mike and the YMCA managing director Garrett Brolsma are super and go the extra mile to make the sports leagues top notch. We will be long term participants! read more

We have played sports all throughout the US with the YMCA so we have an idea of what to expect. Signed my son up for basketball and first red flag for the team practice was once a week which was on "Sunday" with games on Saturdays. (The YMCA only requires one practice) Most of our coaches we've played with have always had 2 more, but we decided to see what this was all about being new to this state and area we are not quite knowledgable with how "clubs" or other organizations work so naturally we join the "YMCA". We went to the first initial "meeting/practice" and there were about 2-3 teams worth "practicing". Turns out that this coach (who is coaching 3 Y teams) also does "club" basketball and his club kids play for the Y as well. He advertised his league stating that if we want more practices with him we have the "opportunity" to join his club team for his club dues, which in his organization charges monthly dues! Also when questioned by other parents of practices not being functional for most families schedules, he responded that he "offers" practices with his club league that is in joint with the Y league. From my understanding the "YMCA" is not connected to any other leagues however since this coach utilizes his place as a "volunteer" coach for recruiting new players, the Y seems to accept it due to his volunteer status. We did get "90%" of our refund and I did speak to "Tim" regarding this. Tim was amazingly nice and easy to speak with an honest conversation. Regarding this coach he has epic marketing skills to recruit more kiddos. I'm sure he recruited a good handful within that day. But as for us we opted out and joined the NYS for a basic team with weekly practices and Saturday games. The functionality for my family with other children in dance, and high school sports didn't fit for our schedules, and as for a "Sunday" practice, we are all about recharging for the week, we will opt out of this league. read more

Very friendly staff. Easy sign up. For my 13 yr old daughter and I, pay $63. What does $63 get us? Free weights Cardio equipment Group exercise class Swimming pool Basketball court Great if your going to use it all but over priced if your not. Also they use the basketball court for youth basketball and volleyball practice so it's not avl all the time. The pool is rented out to Swim Neptune for their club practice but there are 3 lanes open for members. Unlike other gyms, there are no trainers in the workout room so if you need help with a machine or need some advice, there are no professionals to ask. The atmosphere is relaxed. Feels comfortable. Mostly families. You'll see kids exercising too. They don't goof off. They exercise, some put more effort in than others. I don't feel I get my monies worth so I put in my cancellation notice . They did not pressure me into staying and did not ask me a million questions. I simply filled out the form. read more

Not a fan. Just cancelled my membership. I signed up originally because of the youth programs and because it's within walking distance to my house. The facilities themselves and staff are not the problem. I actually had good instructors for the classes and the equipment was in great shape and it's clean. My problem is that it is way overpriced. Maybe in order to subsidize the low income members that go for free? I don't qualify for financial assistance so for $25 more, I could have a membership at Lifetime Fitness with every amenity under the sun for crying out loud. I think also because of their pricing structure, you get a lot of sketchy members going there. Also, the main reason I signed up was for the youth programs, none of which are offered at this location for my kids ages (3 and 5) I guess because it's one of the smaller ones? If you're single and low income or a student, it's a phenomenal deal. But families don't have access to many of the amenities and kids programs at this location and would be better off at one of the larger YMCA. Even at those you'll still pay out the wazoo if you don't qualify for financial assistance. Just not worth it for me and my family. read more

I love YMCAs and this one is no different. We come for the volleyball team, which I am happy with. Everyone gets to play, perfect for letting your kids test the waters without a big money or time commitment from a club. It seems that the kids 10-12 are a little more competitive in the volleyball teams which is good to see but 8 and under is all inclusive. The gym isn't big enough to share with basketball recreation for those that like to play. The workout equipment is in good condition, my favorite YMCA is the Tempe location because they have TVs on most of the treadmills. We also enjoy the basketball and sports programs, swim lessons and workout facility. It's safe and a friendly, fun atmosphere for the whole family to enjoy. Jamison was lost when he was 2, that had no idea how he got off premises and now Elvira was supposedly trying to skip school (@ 6 years old) was the reason they give for why they couldn't find her for hours. In both of these incidents the parents WERE NOT CALLED. What kind of security can parents have when you drop your child off at a childcare facility that can't even keep track of your child?!? Sex trafficking, kidnapping or car accidents are real dangers we face nowadays! I hope CPS whips this place into shape because the cost can't be beat....here you get what you pay for, smh. read more

I can't even begin to describe the horrific experience I just had trying to enroll my 5 year old in their summer camp. I spent 40 minutes registering, filling out paperwork, trying to get my questions answered and being thrown around and around and around. I waited in line 5 times, was never acknowledged until I begged someone at the desk to help me, couldn't get any of my questions about swim lessons during camp answered, "uh...just pick one." but you have one during camp, so which one is it, um...it's whatever one you want it to be. NO IT ISN'T!!!! don't pretend to know the answer if you are going to make up some bs. Paperwork says you pay a $25 deposit for each week which is already pretty steep. What the paperwork doesn't say is that you pay a $35 registration fee, a $15 shirt fee, $25 for each week AND 4 weeks upfront. um...what? so I'm ready to pay my deposits and everything and the girls says, okay your total is $770!! what?!!! My kid is a foster kid, I'm a single mom are you kidding me? $770 for the sign up fee? WTF? I asked the girl to show me where it says that on the paperwork, she said, oh it doesn't the camp director just decided that's what you will pay. she just decided? how the eff do people afford that? I said, seriously? she goes, I know, right? so... so what? you people are dumb. What kind of ignoramus do you have working the front desk? I asked when school started so I knew how long I wanted to keep her in camp, the girl said, "I'm not in school, so I don't know." you are running summer camp registration, you better know when school starts. Well since you couldn't answer a single one of my questions, why should I expect you to know that? I finally fork over the money to get away from her and ask where to go, she says "the gym." are you kidding me? it's the ymca, the entire place is a gym?!!!!!!!!!!!! I walk down 1/2 mile of hallway with 20 rooms, and I see no kids anywhere. I have to go back to the front again. wait in line. AGAIN. the guy hustles me up and said go back to the gym. I said, "look, we have never been here we don't know where we are going, can you please just help us?" He said, end of the hall. Thanks jerk. YMCA I'm calling you now to cancel this bs membership. The sports department here is a joke. My daughter plays volleyball and last season we had issues with our coach which was our first let down by the Y. The director made it right though. The tournament at the end of the season was so unorganized. Our coaches never got notified there was a tournament and then everything was very last minute so we ended up missing it because we already had plans. So we decided to play another season as we have an amazing coach now. However it's Friday and we were just notified today our game time is changed. Again not ok. We make plans on the weekends and I have more then one child in activities. So changing the game time the day before the game is not acceptable. The scheduling of the games for the Y is horrible. If you have nothing to do on the weekends then sign your child up here. Otherwise I recommend somewhere else. read more

Don't trust the website hours. Might not be a big deal to some but to my family, I have to plan my day. I have 2 small children and leaving the house is no longer just hoping in the car and going. I checked the hours of the pool to make sure it would work with my schedule & child care schedule. Planned accordingly, checked my children into childcare, to find out the pool closed an hour ago and the website was wrong. The young woman behind the counter checked the website and saw that I was correct, the website did indeed say 9am-11am. She informed me after the estimated 12 min drive, I would have 35 min to swim, if I went to the Tempe location. Ok, maybe 35 min to a person without 2 small children. By the time I checked my kids out of their child care, got my toddler & infant into the car, drove the 12-15 min it takes to get there, get the kids out of the car, checked in, checked my kids in and got to the pool, I'd have NO time to swim. Really irritating when even leaving the house is no easy task. A better solution would have been to let me swim since the error was on them. read more

Just joined and went to swim laps yesterday. Found the pool very dirty and had not been vacuumed recently with lots of debris on the floor. Also not sure if they are doing the chemicals. No sense of chlorine present. Won't come back until this is corrected. read more

The child care program at the YMCA is more than just a daycare, it's a second home for your children to learn and grow.. My children have gone to the Y for 3 years and continue to learn even now that they are in the after school program.. My daughter loved the summer camp they did something every day, dbacks game, bowling, skate land and the movie theater. It's also great To be in a place where you feel welcome & feel like family's I would recommend the YMCA to every family. read more

The Chandler/Gilbert Y was my first experience with the YMCAs and I love it. This place it clean and they have brand new equipment. The gym itself is tiny but you can still get a great workout. My favorite class at the Y is Body Pump. I don't think I would have ever checked out the Y but I am glad I did! read more

My daughter started the before and after school program here at this Chandler YMCA about 3 weeks ago and I must say she is very happy here. She is excited to see all of the caregivers, friends and still be able to do a variety of programs that's being offered at this location. I love that the staff is friendly and personable. They even take the time to help the children with homework and other tasks that's needed. Vicki and Brittany goes out of their way to make sure you are well informed. My family and I LOVE the Preschool at the Chandler YMCA! Our son has been in the program for two years, since he was 12 months old, and he has grown leaps and bounds because of this program. All teachers are extremely attentive and notify us of everything right away; whether it be an "ouch report" or an event coming up, they keep us informed! I love the family involvement aspect of this program. They offer back to school BBQ's, Curriculum Nights so we can learn what our children are doing and an art show and ice cream social, showing off the art our children created in their "art masterpiece" class! My son also does "Itty Bitty Sports" and swim lessons at the YMCA, and by filling out a simple permission slip, his teachers take him to and from these extra activities. I have nothing to worry about while my son is in their care and I can't wait to send my daughter here when she's old enough! read more

My wife and I are parents of special needs kids and have been going to this YMCA for awhile now. My oldest is 8yrs old and Autistic. For the 1st time he had a minor breakdown when entering the Y. It usually take a small bit of time to get him calm and back to normal. My wife explained to the staff that he is autistic. She was carrying a bag with their swim stuff while trying to get him to stand back up. Nobody there offered to help with the bag so she can focus on our child or ask if there was anything they can do to help. They did tell her that they have people coming in 10 minutes and they need to leave. Christian facility my ass... Cancelling this membership. p.s. they have been getting lazy on posting swim schedules so we could never figure out if there is "open swim" lanes available during classes/lap swim without having to call in first. My son has been taking swim lessons for about 3 months. He really likes it and has finally learned to swim. We did lessons through one of the chandler pools but they were not as good. The Y has smaller classes so each child gets more individualized attention. It have been exciting to watch him learn and the staff has been very patient with him and all of the kids in the lesson. read more

This Ymca is an amazing facility. The staff is friendly, helpful and you feel at home. The have a great area to bring your kids while you work out as well. There are always free events and opportunities to get more out of your membership than just the gym. I never thought I could love a gym this much. I train with both personal trainers as well and have seen huge improvements. read more
