This is a great place if you want to be outside but still grab a drink and maybe food. It's a very simple, casual set up. The bar is just a storage container. It looks like there's another one or two for the food. They had plenty of heaters. You just had to ask and they would turn it on. There was a few well-behaved dogs. My friend said they usually come around to take drink orders, but we didn't see anyone on a Friday night. We ordered at the bar and sat where we could watch the padre game. The sound wasn't on, which was fine with us. Next to the bar, there's a counter to order food, then you take a number to your seat. Cocktails are fire. Food... not so much. We ordered the Applewood Bacon and The Classic plus Tater Tots. These burgers are definitely smashed. A lot of excess crunchy bits on the outside of the burger. Pieces that would normally be eaten. However, the patties were overly salty. Salty taste with every bite that it was overpowering, It was too much salt that the Applewood Bacon burger wasn't finished. About half was left. The Classic wasn't too bad because the lettuce and tomato helped tackle that. Tater tots are tater tots. A few of the em had cajun seasoning. I was excited for those except they were cold and a bit mushy. The majority of the tater tots were crunchy and hot. For drinks, we had the Jefe James and the Cucumber Jalapeño Margarita. Nice outdoor bar with a unique container-style setup and a great atmosphere. There's an upstairs area, a turf space with picnic tables downstairs, and plenty of seating at the bar. I'm a lover of burgers with an egg inside, but this one didn't mesh well with the rest of the burger. We also tried the mini corn dogs and breakfast tots. They both were pretty good! The tots were so loaded that they were a bit soggy and didn't have that crunch to them. My boyfriend got the spice girl breakfast sandwich and I think I would recommend that one over all others. I should have taken photos of the ambiance because it's a really cool 2-story outdoor place (bar by night). My only complaint is that they don't have a menu available. When asked if they have a menu, the employee said "go to crackheads.com." No QR code, even? I got the breakfast sandwich with the chives. It was perfection. This is a fun little bar in Carlsbad village. There's a great bar seating area downstairs, dog friendly, and open to the beautiful weather. All seating is outside, no inside seating. The rooftop deck seating area has a quirky, two horse trailer (I think it's an additional bar), and views of the local area. If it gets chilly, there are several propane heaters to keep you warm, although...it would be nice if they offered blankets (I've been to several bars that do this, and it's an awesome concept). Located in the open lot in downtown Carlsbad, Crackheads joins an outdoor bar and a coffee spot in a great location that walkers and beach goers can readily enjoy the sunshine and breezes while eating breakfast fare with their dogs or strollers in tow. I came with my wife on the tail end of a vacation night away from the kids. After seeing their entry here on Yelp, I knew exactly how to finish up our trip on the town. First, we split the Breakfast Burrito, which was basic in concept, but still very well made and pretty tasty. With plenty of sausage and cheese, it was nice and greasy, and the tater tots gave it some welcome chew. About the only thing I would recommend or like to see if we come back would be more of a selection in proteins or sauces that you can get on the inside. Not sure why, but I feel like sausage gravy should always be a breakfast option. Next up on the table were the Breakfast Tots. These were simple, well-fried, loaded with cheese, bacon, and sausage, and coated with both a well cooked egg and a nice, cream sauce (Crack Sauce, as the menu puts it). The pair of us fought over bites of this dish and I personally liked it so much that I ended up shredding some leftover Honey and Balsamic Pork and made some loaded tater tots of my own at home. This alone is worth coming back out to Carlsbad for in the future. And to top it all off, the woman behind the counter was knowledgable about the menu and great to talk to. If you had to search for a detraction, it would be the presence of so many flies buzzing around. But, that can easily be forgiven due to the location. All in all, it was a great breakfast and a nice end to our trip. Until we come back and I can sample those sandwiches to know different, this place is easily a strong four stars for me. read more
