It's hard to believe that this place is not 5 out of 5. Yelpers usually like a combination of unique and good food places. This is both. Voted best icecream in KY by USA Today. And the food it also very good. But it is unique by the extras. It's a dairy barn. Awesome playhouse. Movies projected on the side of the barn on Friday nights in the summer. So many x-factors that make this a place to visit if you are passing by just to say you have tried it. Super friendly people work there! We stopped for some ice cream and also got a couple kids meals. The attendant allowed us to sample quite a few. We ended up getting the Red velvet cake, brownie cow, and peanut butter swirl...all great flavor. The toasted coconut was really good but we got the 3 scoop sampler to split and my kids don't like coconut. My husband got a kids scoop of peppermint and it rocked too. We visited on a rainy day just for some ice cream. CUTE, very family-friendly place with a nice gift shop. The workers were very friendly and happily accommodated my 8 year-old's requests to taste six different flavors. I read raving reviews of their ice creams. I definitely wouldn't put it up there as some of the best that I've had, but it was still good. The environment was awesome and we were happy to visit a locally owned and operated business . We'd like to come back on a day with better weather so we could explore outside. We'd return for ice cream or dessert if we were in the area! read more

We stopped into Chaney's on our way home to Memphis from Louisville in July to get out of the car for a bit and have a treat. There were lots and lots of delicious looking home made ice creams and deserts to choose from (free tastes!). I can't remember the flavors we got but my wife, my son and I each got something different and they were all fantastic. The ice cream was velvety smooth and full of flavor. The prices were extremely reasonable as well (better than Baskin Robins' prices if I recall). They also have a normal menu outside of ice cream (burgers, sandwiches, soups, salads etc), but we didn't try anything but we saw other folks eating and it all looked good. The young ladies working the ice cream bar were very friendly as well. The bonus was that just out back there is a big playground with a gigantic slide, sandpit, picture cutout, and swings. Our son burned off the sugar high of the ice cream and fell asleep for most of the car ride home. We also used the restrooms which were extremely clean. read more

The ONLY treason I would ever go to Chaney's is for the ice cream. The food is totally "blah" !!! And the ice cream is radically over-priced. You can almost buy a half gallon at the super market for what a cone costs at Chaney's. Having said this, I will probably stop again sometime for more ice cream. read more

We stopped by at 8pm for ice cream and there were plenty of people playing on the amazing looking playground (made me wish that I was a child!!). The inside is a cute shop that has some fun souvenirs. We just got ice cream and they had 20+ flavors, all unique. Each scoop is large and reasonably priced, and all delicious! 3 scoops was too much for my partner and I to share. Only downside is Styrofoam cups. We chose Chaney's because we found it in a Great Eats book. It was a little out of the way, but we are always up for a little trip to try something new. When we walked in, we didn't know what to do... sit, wait for a hostess, go to the back? We found an employee and asked if we were supposed to sit or wait to be seated. They showed us the line where orders are taken, but we had to ask for menus, so I was a little agitated with the lack of structure right at the beginning. I got the Spicy Bird, which is a chicken patty that is supposed to be spicy, but it wasn't. It had a good flavor, but Wendy's spicy chicken breast tops it, in my opinion. The fries were very good, seasoned perfectly. My husband got a ham and cheese panini, it was good, but nothing special. The potato soup was excellent; I wish I had gotten a whole bowl! The ice cream was very good, I got a peanut butter/chocolate milkshake, and he got a brownie split. The restroom was clean. I probably wouldn't go here again. This place is amazing! Unfortunately we did not arrive in time to tour the milkers but we did get to eat and play. Their food is to die for. Everything we ordered was fresh and hot! The ice cream was one of a kind, which they make there. I have a 3 year old and also had my friends 12 year old with me and they both enjoyed the free play area. They make all of their ice cream on site and they have so many flavors that are all yummy. And the prices are better than all the chains. This is a family owned business and its nice to support local businesses. There is a playground out back for kids and on the weekends they do tours where you can see the cows and learn about how cows are milked and then get a scoop of ice cream.
