Do you ever see a plate of food and just shriek with excitement??? That's how I felt at Melissa's. As a BG native who has moved away from home, this is the definition of comfort food. The catfish was really good especially with the tartar sauce. I found some pieces to be a little dry and maybe could use more salt for my taste, but with the sauce it was excellent and I loved the breading. The sides were delicious and they came out HOT! The hush puppies were exactly how they're supposed to taste. Be sure to check the specials menu, which they also post on their Facebook page each day. Everyone was very friendly. There's ample indoor seating and a play area for kids. Bathroom available and a large parking lot - but even so, it can be hard to find a spot since it's a popular place!! They take cash and card. Will definitely be back! Thank you!

Stopped in for a quick breakfast on a recent road trip--parking lot was packed on a Saturday morning but we found a spot and quickly realized why this is likely a local favorite--great food at amazing prices. I know comparing cities is pointless because it's all relative and every market is different, but seeing these prices for breakfast which are less than half of the price for a similar diner in the Nashville area made me feel like I was stepping back in time. I had the country fried steak, over-easy eggs, homefries, and orange juice. My wife had a bacon egg sandwich and OJ. Great food, quickly served, friendly service, and a ticket of around $20 for both of us pre-tip. Gravy was good, the biscuits were incredible--crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy in the middle, and one will most likely get you where you need to go if you have other items on your plate. Great breakfast all around and hope to stop back in for lunch someday.

Fast friendly service. Excellent food. Down home feel. Most courteous staff than anywhere around. Everything I have had from this restaurant has been awesome. When the restaurant is full the noise level increases but it is not unbearable. Just happy customers. The fried food is amazingly not greasy. Great tasting deserts too! The banana pudding is my favorite.

My girlfriend and I were headed from Indiana to Alabama to visit family and were looking for a place to stop and eat. It was the brunch hour and since we were in the South, I was craving country fried steak and biscuits. I looked on yelp and saw Melissa's so we changed our course and went in for lunch. The food was excellent! The wait time for our ticket was very short. 5-6 minutes tops. And the prices, you simply can't beat. Excellent and attentive service with lots of love. If we ever end up back in Bowling Green, we'll be sure to stop by again!

I had read the many great reviews and had been wanting to try it for a year. Each time I drive by there I think wow lot of cars there so probably very busy. From the outside it doesn't look very big which is why I would pass on by. But today I had time and decided to go in, great decision by me. While the parking lot looked full inside they had many open tables. We sat down and were immediately brought silverware and menus. I counted over 5 waitresses busy with their customers. We ordered sweet tea as our drink and it was very good. Looking over the menu I had a craving for their fried baloney sandwich and ordered side of hash browns and gravy and biscuits thinking I could eat it all. It was a lot to eat. Great portion size. The food tasted amazing and was brought out in 5 minutes. I see now why they are rated so high. I can't say enough about the service and the food. The prices are reasonable and compare to other restaurants, but for the food and service it is a great value. We will be back and bring some family and friends so they experience this hidden treasure.

If you turn onto St.Charles St., just keep driving. Ignore the industrial buildings until…read moreyou arrive at this small, innocuous-looking building that is this Cuban restaurant & bar. If I were to remove a star, it would be because of the exterior. But I'm not going to remove a star. Once again, I come to an ethnic restaurant that looks questionable on the outside. But as we all know, those are the restaurants that have the BEST food. So I entered the restaurant, bravely and was greeted immediately by a very friendly server, who offered me to sit in either the dining or the bar area. I chose the dining area because it had more light. The bar area was way too dark for my preference, but she explained that the state law required them to keep it dark (because it's a bar area). The bar area has seating along the bar itself, and at a few tables in the area. Plus, (and it's a big plus for me) there is a pool table and and music plays all the time. :-) So I tried the drink soursop (guanabana) which is a tropical fruit that tastes like a combination of strawberries and apples. I really enjoyed it! Try it on ice because it tastes better when it is cold, per the recommendation of my wonderful server. As an appetizer, she brought to me fried onion rings with an amazing creamy garlic sauce for dipping. I am ashamed to say that I inhaled those onion rings! I dipped each one dipped in the flavorful garlic sauce. For dinner I ordered the eight. The pork team sliced with caramelized onions on top it I could not believe how tender and flavorful the pork was. Just amazing scrumptious! It melted my mouth. Eating it along with the congri was just a delightful experience. The dish came with a side salad (chopped red cabbage over sliced tomatoes) that was nothing special , but it looked very pretty. Foolishly, I ordered a side on yucca. It comes with warm queso on the side. I tried the yucca dipped in the queso AND dipped in the creamy garlic sauce (that came with the appetizer onion rings). While I liked both flavors, I preferred the garlic sauce with the yucca (I'm just a sucker for garlic). As I said earlier, the flavors of the pork, caramelized onions and congri were the stars of this dish. The tasty food, efficient service and the friendly owner (who visited my table and talked to me while I waited for my food), almost makes me wish I lived here so that I could partake at my convenience. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. If you are ever close to here, you should try it also.

Food took a little time to come out but I expect that in-between busy times. We were the only ones eating for most of the time we were there. The appetizers were really good, we had croquettes and empanadas that were great. The meals were really good, the only problem we had was my wifes Ropa Vieja was dry. The owner stopped by asked how everything was and gave us a discount because I was wearing a USAF Veteran hat. I didn't ask for it or expect it but really appreciated that extra touch. 100% would recommend this restaurant!!!!…read more we arrived right at 5pm when they open back up for the day. firstly the atmosphere and customer service is top tier. everyone is super attentive and welcoming. we started off with mixed drinks, with a very wide selection, each drink we tried was perfectly mixed and balanced. we definitely would recommend the french martini and vette city. as for appetizers, we tried the fried pickles and jalapeños. the batter was light but crunchy and flavorful and the house made ranch paired perfectly with them. main courses i would 1000% recommend the chicken rosa. such a delicious dish with a creamy mash potatoes side and perfectly seasoned and sautéed fresh vegetable side. the lemon caper sauce paired with the chicken was stunning. chicken was cooked perfectly and still very juicy. the basil pasta dish was al dente with a rich, herby, and creamy sauce. the crème brûlée was the most delicious dessert to end the meal with a perfectly crunchy sugar top not too charred and the crème part was flavored very nicely with a good vanilla taste. 5/5 WOULD RECOMMEND

I woke up this morning and said to myself, "self, you need to have a good gyro today for lunch."…read more After polling my family and Yelp results, I found Sam's and I'm really glad that I did! No one was there on a Saturday around lunch time. We ordered from a pleasant fellow at the counter who quickly put our beef/lamb gyro sandwiches together. Everything was super fresh. Our order of fries were fried to order. Two gyro sandwiches, one order of fries, and one beverage came out to $22 even. They'll take your card but a nearby sign says that they prefer cash. I didn't see anything about those dumb credit card fees, so hopefully that doesn't exist. The place seemed quite clean. No concerns there. There are several tables for dine-in. There is no outdoor seating. When we arrived, the pleasant fellow was jamming out to what I would describe as trendy Miami Beach hotel lobby music - a little bit dance club, a little bit ambient beats. He turned it down, but maybe should have turned it off. If it was left at the original volume, I'd have docked a star just for the hit to the already limited ambiance. The food was STELLAR. I commented to my favorite dining companion that we could come back for a gyro anytime. He agreed. The pita bread was toasted perfectly, the veggie components of the sandwiches were fresh and bright, the meat was pre-cut from the rotisserie but was perfect and plentiful. You'll have to eat some of the sandwich insides before you can fold it taco style and finish it, so grab a fork and dig in. The fries were those chunky style ones that were fried to crisp perfection and dusted with a seasoned salt of some sort. I did not check to see if the Heinz ketchup at the table is actually Heinz or if they are refilling the bottles (iykyk). The sandwich is plenty for lunch - you don't need fries or a side to get a filling meal. The location is easy enough to get in and out of for a quick escape if you order takeout. I did notice an advertisement for delivery, but it wasn't Uber Eats, Grubhub, or DoorDash. I'll be back! I do love a gyro but I plan to try the salads and platters. I hope you stop in and give it a try! Enjoy!
