The food may be good, but the staff is ridiculous. Have someone who speaks English run the register. We paid for our food tonight, and they entered $1003.22 instead of $103.22! When we told them they entered it wrong, the cashier charged us again for the correct amount but didn't void the previous amount! Then the owner comes and says "yes he did!" Once I saw the reviews & high rating I felt a need to leave a review. I've eaten the food from here several times because it's close & no better options. It's mediocre at best. I have had a very hard time finding decent Chinese food in Madison, but this isn't it. I lived in & grew up in NY & was in LA for 20 years+. Haven't been here as much as I used to when it was nearby my home. Last week however it was time for a late lunch or early dinner. Yum. Fast and priced perfectly prepared. First off, I love egg drop soup but this one had an extremely funky taste. It was almost as if an ash tray was dropped into the pot, it was some sort of smokey-stale flavor. I was immediately put off by it and so was my little sister who also enjoys egg drop soup. I ordered through door dash and they forgot one item, it was quickly resolved and I was refunded through door dash. This is the very best Chinese food in Madison! I always ask for extra veggies to substitute for the rice and the woman who usually works the counter is always super friendly and very accommodating! Wow, this place is so hit or miss. I'm honestly just not sure what I'll be getting for delivery each time I order (the same thing). They must have a different person cooking the stuff every single time because nothing ever comes to me the same as the last. I have had some great General Tso's here, and I have had some horrible way too spicy un eatable Tso's here. It's just so confusing. I enjoy the lunch special the best. Most lunch specials are around $4.99 and come with fried rice (or white/just ask) and a egg roll. Great! It's enough food for a second meal for most. Who can beat that? Pretty much anything and everything is offered under this lunch special as well. What a deal! Great egg rolls, Very good Rangoon! Awesome soups! Solid option. I live on the east side and delivery is limited. Chang Jiang is not the greatest place out there, but it is decent. They have online ordering or over the phone. They deliver in blizzards and on Sundays. They also regularly send out coupons. They have a huge menu! Their appetizers are lacking, there are only about 8 options which include the usual crab rangoon, egg rolls and soup. I generally order their orange chicken or their General Tsao's chicken. All of their meals come with fried rice (unless otherwise noted) or you can substitute. I love my food VERY spicy and they always amp it up when I request that. They make it exactly how I like it. Overall flavors are decent. They sauce can sometimes be overpowering to the point where you can not tell the different between veggies and meat in your container. The portions are inconsistent. They had switched containers for awhile and portions got smaller. Then all of a sudden we are back to big containers! It is not a big deal, I still got a ton of food. I'm not from this area, but while I was in Madison I decided that I had to have some Chinese food. OMG! The food is awesome from Chang Jiang! The beef fried rice is delicious and the doughnuts are heavenly! Delivery was super fast and the food arrived blazing hot. As for take-out Americanized Chinese food goes, Chang Jiang is pretty good. The food alone gives them 3 stars. What gives them that extra star is the service. I have a severe fish and shellfish allergy. Every time I order from Chang Jiang, and let them know, they take care of my food. They make sure that it does not have any cross contamination or oyster or fish sauce in any of my food, even if it normally does. They make it safe to eat take out chinese. read more

I wanted to like it. I ordered Sesame chicken, General Tso's chicken, and Singapore Mei Fun. The sesame chicken was dry and overcooked. Mei fun was not well-seasoned and the meats were overcooked. My son liked the General Tso's. The egg rolls were ok and the service at the window was pretty good for a young kid. I gave them 2 stars for the crazy huge portions and the young kid at the window. The delivery driver got frustrated with me and used profanities because I'm on the third floor with my infant. He had to park in the no parking zone with his hazard lights on to deliver the food. I'd like to add that this is an accepted practice for all other cab and delivery drivers in the area. We have even had other Chian Jiang delivery drivers do the same with no complaint. We have an elevator so he didn't have to walk up, but still, he told us not to order with them anymore and called me, I think, "a sh*t" or something akin to it. Typical Americanized Chinese takeout food. Portion size is excellent so if you happen to like the preparation, it's a good value for you. For me every sauce was too thick and goopy with very little distinctive flavor. Scallops in garlic sauce did not taste like garlic at all, but the scallops were big and generous. The Kung Pao chicken tasted like it was out of a can. A chicken lo mein dish with thin noodles was adequate but also flavorless. Shrimp egg foo young? See above. This is strictly a takeout place with one little bench to sit at and eat food in if you choose. Don't do it. It's difficult to find good Chinese food anywhere in Madison, though your best bet is downtown around the square at some of the hot pot places. This place offers cookie cutter Chinese food made for Americans with little experience of good Chinese food. My suggestion is go buy a frozen PFChang dinner, add your own veggies or meat if you want, and you'll save money on a better meal. How anyone gave this five stars is mind boggling. read more

This place has your standard chinese food; their stuff is nothing special. I have ordered it twice, and after the second time, I will probably not get it again. The egg rolls and rangoons were way too greasy. While I understand that chinese food is typically a little on the greasy side, you shouldn't be able to sop grease from an eggroll with a paper towel. I was hungry for Chinese food and this place was on the way home so I decided to give it a try again. I was pleasantly surprised. The crab rangoon had plenty of filling and was delicious. The food is always good when we order. Tonight I ordered moo sho pork. When we got our Oder there was no pancakes, plus I ordered extra which I was charged for. I called and told the lady what happened. She said owner would call me. So he called. I ran through all of the inventory that was in the bag. He was basically saying I'm a liar cuz you could hear the lady in the background say I know I put it in the bag. The owner said he would have to look at the video. And hung up. Well they were wrong. We've ordered delivery from Chang Jiang several times and it is some of the best Chinese take out we've had. Delivery is fast -20 minutes or so, but we live close- and everything is hot and fresh. We generally order sesame chicken and try another different dish each time The chow mei fun was quite a bit different from the usual buffet noodles, and the pork egg rolls were full of flavor, not the usual cabbage and nothing else one so often encounters. An hour later after when my family had finished eating and I sit waiting and starving for this $40.00 meal my family and I had ordered my chicken fried rice had finally arrived! And the driver had the nerve to question why it had been touched! Duh! I did empty some of the rice on my plate and took a few bites and realized there was NO chicken! Then he told me not to worry about it! You'd think after spending $40.00 on fast food the restaurant would have been a bit more customer service oriented.
