We finally ate in this restaurant since our previous experiences had been take-out during Covid. Actually I forget how long after they opened in 2020 did they open the sit down restaurant. We decided it was time to go in person especially given it is only about a mile down the road from us. We called for a reservation on a Saturday evening which looks like it was needed since it is a very small space. Even with the reservation we opted to eat at the bar since the two top they offered us was shoved in a bleak corner. The bartender was friendly and helpful and sitting at the bar gave us the option of watching a few football games on TV. After ordering some beers we ordered the Fat Uncle Tony pizza, though there were many other tempting choices. The large pizza was very tasty though the bacon was hard to find. The prices were similar to our usual Glass Nickel. We will definitely be back since there are some other pizzas we want to sample. read more

It has been awhile since I'd been here, and now they've fully opened the dine-in option at this location as well (like awhile ago, but like I said, it had been awhile). I did technically order takeout again this time, but while I waited for my pizza, I was able to look around and see the large bar with plenty of table seating options. Love the feel of this place, and would love to come back for a dine-in option and sample the beverage offerings! What drew me back in to Salvatore's was their community fundraising night they did for the injured police officer and his K9. I wish there was a little bit more of advanced notice, but I love when local businesses really take an active part in their community and try to give back. And giving back at $10/pizza sold is way more than a lot of businesses do so A+ for that! Obviously, since I was coming here for the fundraiser, I ordered " the Kimberley" even though Italian sausage isn't usually my jam. Still, the pizza was SO GOOD. We vegetarians often don't get a lot of inventive menu choices but the squash soup, plus cauliflower steak were divine. Large sections of charred cauliflower and potato wedges were on a bed of this ginger squash served with fennel. Totally unexpected flavors, absolutely delicious. They seem to be doing to fish what they already did to pizza. Taking something anyone can do (often poorly) and making it better then perfect. Their wild caught cod is in a perfect batter blend. Fried and with a crispy airlike crust that leaves you begging for more. Their remoulade sauce outclasses any tartar you can imagine. The slaw is homemade and amazing. What we received was a pizza with tons of red sauce, barely any mozarella, pepperoni, prosciutto, and basil. It tasted awful! Salvatore's is always delicious, and this location is no exception. But, like the Sun Prairie location, they absolutely cannot keep time. Their pizza is always 15 to 20+ minutes after their (already lengthy) estimate. (Sal's lukewarm just isn't as good as hot, so waiting half an hour before you leave to pick up pizza isn't a great option.) I totally get that hiring is hard these days -- but then please, please just don't overpromise. Add some time to your estimates! Or figure out how many pizzas you can make. But don't let me order 45 minutes in advance only to not have them ready. (I did get a text telling me they were running late, but the message arrived ... after my pizza was supposed to be ready.) Then when I arrive 10 minutes later, tell me it'll be *another* 10 minutes and still not be ready for then either. In case you're counting, that's an hour and 10 minutes after I placed my order. Well this is a yummy spot but I tried to do a pick up order tonight and couldn't because they are full with orders for pickup. I changed to delivery and couldn't do that either because of to many orders. I am giving this a four star rating because their pizzas are very good. However going through their website and ordering what you want to get to the checkout and be stopped is disappointing. The website should just Indicate immediately that there are no online orders or delivery available so you are not adding to your cart only to be stopped. We ended up ordering from somewhere else. The Fat Uncle Tony 10" pie was excellent. But I'm here to gush over the butterscotch budino. I'm a fan of most puddings, but this, this, is better than 10" of anything. Full mouth-feel texture, and salty to bring out all the flavor. The dollop of cream on the top, over the top. And I haven't even yet mentioned the biscotti that comes on the side. Parking: There's a large amount of parking in the strip malls parking lot. Granted sometimes people drive like crazy through it. Seating: We went around 4:00, when we walked in, there wasn't a sign giving much for prompts for inside or outside seating. The lady said she could seat us where we wanted, as she could tell that's probably what we wanted. They have a VERY small inside seating, and a good amount of outside seating. The seats are a tad lightweight. But they have a lot of them. And small tables. We ran into this issue near the end of the meal, but a few bees showed up. We were sitting near a potted plant, not sure if that played into the bees. Bathrooms: We didn't see any bathrooms, unless there in a back room. But it was a bit of an issue, not the end all be all. Granted I did get the cheese pizza... Food: We got some garlic bread, which was OK. Forgot to get a picture. But it was extremely hard, could tasted the oil when you got a tad further into the piece of garlic bread. I'd rate the garlic bread a 3/10. It did have GREAT marinara with it. Which it needed. Fiancé got a 10in Fat Uncle Tony, we'd rate this at 9/10. It was pretty classic. A good meat and cheese pizza, but the quality is beyond what you get at a majority of places. I decided I wanted a 10in Walter White. Honestly this was a tad bit of a let down. The description was enticing. Ricotta, sausage, pepper and lemon. All together it was a good pizza, it's what I love about Sal's. They do exciting things. The let down came with inconsistencies in the pizza slice to slice. Either you had one pure cheese, or heavy lemon, or heavy peppered cheese. Final rating: 4/5, mainly just for the seating issue and the fact I couldn't find a consistent flavor with the pizza I chose. Absolutely scrumptious! The variety of mushrooms was impressive and sauteed in brown butter made it a vegetarian delight. I Very excited a Salvatore's opened very close to home. They deliver to McFarland which is huge plus for us. They probably have the best pizza in Madison area, I'm not a crust eater but will eat their crust. Very friendly and helpful service. We FB messaged them a question about a delivery to the boat launch and it wasn't a problem. Super fast and it will be delivered when they say. We've done BYO, the woodsman, white pizza, vegan and phone-in and all were delicious. Probably the best pizza I've ever had was Johnny's Slices with goat cheese, pepperoni, spicy pickled veg and hot honey; it was insanely good. They do change their pizzas so it's always nice to try something new. Yes, it's a little pricey but worth it IMO. Hoping they expand their menu a bit but know they are just getting started. Meanwhile, the appetizer, and entree for your dinner partner has YET to arrive. Their pizza is not all that. The crust is crunchy outside and doughy in the middle. Not how a pizza crust should be. If you decide to go to this place, expect to order food that will never arrive, that you have already paid for - because the whole setup is wierd and not very restaurant-like, and thus, not very welcoming. To me, 5 stars is not like getting 100% on a test because you got all the questions right, that would be a 4. 5 stars is when you get an experience beyond what you should reasonably expect. Food here is a solid 4.5. Definitely deserves the top spot for best pizza in the city (which is subjective and depends on what style of pizza you prefer). Only having outdoor seating or carryout should only count for 3 at best. Especially since it's right along the parking lot and you could end up 2 feet from a car that's idling for 15 mins, while also playing crap music. Note to owners: what's taking so long with indoor seating? How do we get up to 5 stars? One superstar server carrying the brand on her shoulders. Let me start by saying how incredibly generous and caring this business is. They quickly arranged a fundraiser with many different ways that the general public could contribute/participate to benefit a local competitor who's bldg was heavily damaged by accident. For this alone they deserve all the stars in the world! So we ordered a couple pizzas as part of the fundraiser. The order online process was super easy. Checkin via the website when I arrived and they brought my pizzas out to my car. (I don't live within the delivery area) Pizzas smelled amazing! But tasted just ok. I have never had their pizzas prior to this fundraiser so i'm unsure if the pizzas were made exactly as they always are or if there were some corners cut to help offset the cost of materials as more than half the pizza price was being donated. Also thinking due to the volume of pizzas expected that perhaps they were fired early and refired just as we arrived. At any rate, we ordered the Lambeaughini. It has an epic ton of pepperoni. My son described it as a pepperoni postit note pad. Pepperonis stacked six layers deep!!! I had to try the Fig and Bacon which was good but too sweet to be a full dinner. Would be better served as an appetizer cut in smaller sections. And then there was the Fat Uncle Tony! Perfect pizza! Perfect balance of sausage, pepperoni, and bacon. I docked them one star because I prefer more sauce on my pizza. Ok an honest review. The pizza taste and quality couldn't be better. But the delivery truly sucks. Cold pizza not so much. Tonight I ordered at about 4:55 pm with an estimate of 6:15 delivery. Delivery was at 6:35 and despite a 20% tip, the driver had me come down to the main entrance of my apartment building to hand off the pizza. And she was not apologetic at all.
