Our family has worked with three orthodontist practices, including braces at the other practices. We feel so incredibly fortunate to have found Dr. Chang about 18 months ago for our daughter's orthodontic care. Where do I start praising Dr. Chang? We came to his office in 2020 after what was nothing short of a disastrous experience at another well-known children's dental office in Long Beach. The orthodontist there wanted to extract FOUR of my daughter's permanent adult teeth due to severe overcrowding. We wanted a second opinion before making such an irreversible decision. A friend recommended Dr. Chang because her son also had a difficult ortho case and she was happy with his progress there. We had two long, in depth consultations with Dr. Chang before switching to his office. I asked him a million questions and posed a bunch of different scenarios. Each time, he was so knowledgeable and equally important to me, patient. He never made me feel like my questions were ridiculous or like we were wasting his time. Dr. Chang was thoughtful and honest in every response. He never made promises he knew he couldn't keep. He basically said, "Let's try treatment without extractions, because I'm confident we can achieve the desired results. If we can't, then extractions will be the last resort." He put me at ease immediately. We saw two other highly regarded orthodontists for second opinions: one was outright rude and condescending; the other was okay, but didn't have Dr. Chang's years of experience. Deeply disappointed with the lack of human decency from Dr Chang. He is very harsh with his delivery and interaction with my child. Difficult case which is why we went there, but he was frustrated and took it out on us even though he messed up with his phase 1 treatment which caused more delay. He wanted to charge more even though our treatment was not completed. He lied saying Invisalign would not be willing to continue treatment. My experience was excellent with Dr. Chang and his assistants/staff/front office were all extremely competent, organized, friendly, and welcoming which is rare and much appreciated when you're scared of a doctor visit! Dr. Chang prepared me for jaw surgery which took several YEARS, but my teeth and bite look absolutely amazing now. By far this is the BEST orthodontic office and we have been to many looking for the best. I'm so happy we found Dr. Chang and his fabulous staff! My son has a very difficult case. Dr. Chang took the time to answer all of our questions in detail and made us feel very comfortable. I'm extremely disappointed in this office. I may only be one of the Doctors, but it is bad. My autistic daughter had always told me that the doctor was mean to her but I always blew it off as her perception of it. I went with her to have an adjustment made to her retainer the last time though. Dr. Chung was very rude to her. After spending a minute on the part of her retainer that was bothering her she told my daughter that she couldn't do any more and called my daughter "overly sensitive". Then she walked away! The office knows that my daughter is autistic. When my daughter started to cry one of the nurses came over and offered to help. I had noticed her hovering in the area already. It looked like she knew the doctor was going to upset another child... She was very nice and understanding. She spent about 5 minutes with her and fixed the problem. I'm glad she was there. Dr. Chung is terrible. No bedside manner at all. Had I not seen it, I would not have believed it. I was soooo upset with her. The upside is that we found Dr. Boulton right up the street in Cypress and my daughter loves the office. Very nice people. read more

I was referred to Dr. Chang by another Orthodontist for a second opinion. First, the office staff is so friendly, and the office itself is beautiful. They took pictures and very extensive X-rays, and then Dr. Chang's assistant (Nadene) reviewed them with me while we discussed my concerns. After a very brief wait, Dr. Chang came in, asked the right questions, did a thorough exam, and gave me GREAT advice, including the recommendation that I not bother with braces. I was delighted with all the useful information I gained when we were done and blown away when they told me the entire visit was complimentary! No one does that anymore. Thoroughly impressed. He and his practice are extremely dishonest in writing and verbally. He wrote he had a title at a university that I learned, after I started, from the university that he had never held there. Instead, he had earlier simply done some volunteering there though should not have falsified that title. He also said he was an expert at a university. However, much later, I happened to consult with the head expert of that department in that university. He said he had never heard of him. He read his written diagnosis then said that was extremely aggressive-- much more aggressive than that he and his department would have given--and uncalled for. He also said the extremely invasive, risky surgery that De. Chang repeatedly referred me to and had most recently done so in an insistent tone was entirely unnecessary. He instead gave me a choice of two treatment choices, one of which was to stop doing or using anything supplied by Dr. Chang and let nature restore my health from his interference, and thank God. After I paid, he hardly ever showed up at appointments and lost x-rays, in addition to interfering with my health, aggressively recommending unnecessary surgeries, using aggressive appliances and putting and keeping me in pain entirely unnecessarily according to multiple expert opinions. He also was evasive and yelled at me. Earlier negative reviews by others have interestingly disappeared. read more

I had braces 20 years ago. As I got older, I got a crown and my wisdom teeth grew in, which led to my teeth shifting. I heard positive things about Chang Orthodontics from a family member and a co-worker who's son was a patient. I visited Dr. Chang in early 2010 because I was dissatisfied with my smile. The office blew me away. It is beautiful, has wi-fi, and free coffee. There's a place to brush & floss your teeth before your appt. Staff was helpful and answered all of my questions. Trisha took impressions of my teeth and was cracking jokes to keep me from gagging on the impression goop. Dr. Chang made sure I had a thorough exam of my mouth and sent me downstairs to the x-ray tech for a complete scan. He said that adults run the risk of losing bone during shifting suggested I visit a dentist and a periodontist to be sure my teeth and gums could handle the strain of the wires. Once I was cleared, I got my braces in July 2010. I was given a lanyard with a reward card. If I had clean teeth and arrived on time I got points. I was able to use the points for gift cards. (Everyone knows I'm a sucker for rewards!) Usually, Nadine or Eddie would remove my wires and check my brackets. They were really nice and always made me feel comfortable. Dr. Chang would check on my progress using photos they took of me periodically. Make sure you look good at every appt. I never knew when they were going to take update photos and ended up with a few makeup-less pics. Lol! My braces lasted a bit longer than expected. (Word to the wise: wear your rubberbands to avoid longer treatment!) Dr. Chang is a perfectionist, so he made sure they were just right. I had them removed in November 2012. Now I just stick to wearing my retainers. My nighttime retainer is awesome. I asked for tie-dye Hello Kitty with glitter thinking I would stump them, but Diane, who designs the retainers, did an awesome job! I have a permanent wire retainer on the back of my bottom teeth. I have a clear plastic retainer for the top teeth to wear during the day. I also have a clear plastic retainer for the bottom teeth to wear at night. Dr. Chang carefully filed my chipped front teeth to make them look even straighter. The only downside is the parking. There is only one driveway, which makes for awkward moments. I usually backed into the parking spaces to make it easier to drive out. Now, I have several other family members, plus a friend that are receiving treatment here because of my new smile. This office may charge a little more than some other orthodontic offices, but is well worth the price. Remember, you get what you pay for! Dr. Chang is a professional and knows that the smile he creates is a billboard for his handiwork. I am really happy with my smile! read more

I've used Chang Orthodontics's twice and both times have been great. Back in 2009 my dad found Dr. Chang and started my braces treatment. I had braces for three and half years and my teeth were absolutely perfect... of course my 17 year old self didn't wear my retainers and my teeth completely shifted. So fast forward to last year I decided to go back to Dr. Chang to start my Invisalign journey. He had originally quoted me 18 months for my treatment time but I wore my trays religiously and finished up in 11 months. DO NOT USE CHANGE ORTHODONTICS! Once you're done paying they do not honor their contracts! I could not be more disappointed in this office. This office provided my braces. I was under contract with this office and was to receive continued services, after my braces were removed, for my permanent retainer. Not only did his office refuse to honor the 3 complimentary repairs to my "fixed appliance" they wanted to charge me $125 fee to "re-open my file"! The office manager was extraordinarily rude and condescending to me when I asked to have my contract reviewed before they denied my request for the repair to my retainer. She quickly told me "No, we don't do anything for free & I don't need to look at your contract". At that point I asked to speak to the orthodontist directly to let him know how his staff was treating his patients. Upon meeting with the orthodontist (who owns this practice & proudly displays his name on the wall) & producing a physical copy of my contract he told me "I don't care, I don't have time for this". This office only wants your money! STAY AWAY! Update: The response to my post by the office is factually inaccurate. My retainer hadn't lasted "until now" this office repaired my retainer in 2007 free of charge, without a fee to reopen my file, under the same contract! That was before they were only out for your money! Additionally, I sought out another local orthodontist who was able to repair my retainer the next day for a total of $75. read more

I love this place. Braces are a scary, terrifying, and annoying thing to have but this place made having braces a not so bad experience. I was recommended here by my general dentist. The whole facility is designed like a giant aquarium. There's a place where you can brush/floss your teeth before the Doc sees you. They even have a mini entertainment center. Everything is colorful. I got to pick my retainer design and chose palm trees on a beach, which I still have until this day. When I had my braces and forgot to make an appt, they would call my home phone and leave messages until we contacted them back. Talk about being proactive. Sometimes they would even have these contests where you guess how many candies are in this giant jar and whoever gets the closest guess within the week/month wins the jar. I paid too many visits here in high school. The staff is great too. On a scale of Squidward to Spongebob in terms of customer service happiness, they're at Spongebob's level. They're just always so happy to be straightening your teeth. The technicians and the doctors also really care about straightening your teeth, making it seem like your teeth are a work of art. I am a few of my many friends who had braces that still wear my retainers because I want to keep their quality of work longer lasting. I miss having braces and having regular visits here. read more
