The "skinny chicken" part tasted good- grilled well and not dry... but the rest of the meal was rough. Added grilled shrimp- received 2 on a skewer and once I bit into them I knew they were rotten- I had to excuse myself to the restroom to spit them out (a bit embarrassing). Outdoor dining was available, but it was too hot for us. Even shortly after opening time at around 11AM. We were seated immediately. Served complimentary table bread with a dousing of olive oil and what I believe was Parmesan cheese in a small bowl. Service by Andrea L. and others was engaging and attentive on 5/24/2025. My girls & I celebrated the kickoff to our summer vacation with the following: 2 Lemonades = $6.98 1 Prickly Pear Margarita = $12.00 1 The Mushroom Swiss Burger = $16.00 1 8oz Wood Grilled Filet = $38.00 1 Blackened Catfish = $14.00 (Convenience Fee (3%) = $2.61) Both the filet and blackened catfish were juicy and tender. I would order either of those again. Of course, none of us left behind much leftovers. Note that the green beans that were served with both the filet & catfish were a bit spicy. Not for me, but my 10-year-old wasn't crazy about them. She would not have been anyway, though. Guess she better change that if she strives to be a top chef someday! The food is fresh. I was passing through on a long drive and couldn't go further unless I had some food. I did a quick search on Yelp and pulled into downtown San Angelo and walked into the Angry Cactus. It was pretty quiet - with maybe 3 tables occupied but decided to sit at the bar anyway. I had no intention of drinking but when I saw the oversized Cactus tap topper I had to ask and the bartender mentioned it was for their house beer. The beer was decent-definitely something to write about but the tap topper was definitely more memorable. I started with the bacon wrapped quail and for the price I was surprised at how small it was-it was tasty but hard to judge the flavor in the 3 bites it took me to finish. The bartender recommended the meatloaf and it was definitely hefty-the sauce on it was a little too sweet for me but was still enjoyable. Overall, it was a memorable stop with enough kitschy ambiance and art to make a good date place. read more

Our waitress here was so attentive and friendly. We went for lunch and the food was fantastic. I had the fried catfish and garlic mashed potatoes. The sauces were delicious and not overbearing. The other person in my party had a grilled chicken breast and a side salad. The chicken was done to perfection, tasty and tender and the dressing for the salad was delicious also. Madeleine ia a new server and she is fantastic! She is so gregarious and effusive that she made us forget the fact that the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter tap was dry. This is my favorite restaurant I've found in San Angelo. I've been here twice, and the food has been amazing both times. The food is classic, yet it has a modern twist. The flavors are bold and complimentary. I have had nothing I didn't like here, and there are so many things on the menu that I want to try. Most recently, antelope was a special. I was impressed with it. It was a great meat and prepared wonderfully. The first time I came, I had the lamb. When I am in San Angelo for work, I check out to see what the specials are. I don't come all the time because it is a special meal, but if something sounds amazing, like antelope, I'll drop for a meal. Their bread and olive oil, also very addictive. read more

Came in for the advertised brunch special banana pecan french toast. First, the serving size was as expected, the size of Texas. Additionally, service is fast and you're greeted with soft bread and an olive oil dip which is a nice touch and courtesy. The brunch special was no ordinary French toast. They butter was custom made from honey, the syrup was custom made with rum, the bread was perfect width for french toast and the bananas and pecan topping was rich. Added a side of bacon and coffee for good measure which was good. I do not really see much on the menu for breakfast. So if that's what you are seeking, check the menu first. read more

The only thing that can be frustrating is that the service sometimes isn't good, but it might be simply because i'm 17 and they think I won't tip. Went to eat here with my family this week. I've never had a meal here that I haven't liked, but I noticed something on the bill that I haven't paid attention to before. We were in a rush, so instead of calculating the tip as I usually do, I just hit the % I felt was appropriate and asked for the paper receipt. Once we got home, I went over the numbers. This is the first restaurant I've been to in a while that got the tip correct. Many places will calculate the tip after including the tax (which is wrong) and some will calculate after the "convenience fee" for using a credit card (which is also wrong). AC did not do this. They calculated the tips % from the actual meal. I know this is a weird thing to put in a review, but I wanted to let people know. And as I said before, food is always good here. read more

Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday and they were pretty busy. My server was excellent. I ordered the Angry Burger with the jalapeños on the side and substituted grilled onions for fried onions and added a fried egg. This massive burger had outstanding flavor it was perfectly cooked medium. 4.5/5, with a bun that actually held up. Glad I got the jalapeños on the side- they were a little bit spicy. I upgraded my fries to Crazy Cheese Fries (added sides of queso & pico) to complete the caloric binge. My Alaskan white Ale beer on tap washed everything down quite nicely (they had a pretty good selection of beers on tap). read more

I ordered a "Classy but Trashy" ($12) a tasty tequila beverage with pineapple juice and red wine. It arrived at 12:23. Service was a little slow. Could have been because it was a Monday. Before a holiday. ‍ I ordered the catfish tacos. Dad got the taco salad. Both on a Taco Monday special ($10 ea) margaritas were on sale for $5- I later got one of those as well. What? I can't celebrate Taco Tuesday on a Monday? Food arrived at 12:38 Everything was fresh, delicious and amazing. They don't offer complimentary chips and salsa- but toasted bread with dipping oil instead. Lunch for 2- $44 the ticket was dropped at 1:00- so the visit was one hour. The entrance with the giant green Angry Cactus is definitely a draw to folks wandering downtown! We couldn't resist!! There were several seats at the bar available so we grabbed a couple as that's our favorite place to sit! The service wasn't what we're used to when sitting at the bar, the bartender was pretty aloof and more interested in her co-workers. You win some you lose some! The cocktails were made well and the restaurant atmosphere seemed fun and casual, we'd definitely return, just not sit at the bar! The food was a bit hit or miss. The Skillet Nachos were excellent flavor wise with plenty of cheese and toppings, it's just that some of the chips were so stale and hard you couldn't bite into them! The Bacon Wrapped Shrimp were anything but jumbo, however they were good and I ate every last bite! Now, the Cajun Chicken Pasta, that's where it's at! That dish is absolutely delicious, spicey, cheesy and addicting!! Thank goodness it's such a huge portion too because we had plenty left over for another meal! I've been there twice. One good, one horrible. The rating today is the average of the two. This time I tried the fried catfish plate. The fish was undercooked, raw in places, and the batter was overseasoned with pepper to the point that it overwhelmed the dish. The person with me had meatloaf because it was pretty good the previous time we had been there, but it was nearly inedible this time because of the pepper. The service was perfunctory. This place is amazing! The service, ambiance and food is great. I'm so glad that my partner introduced me to Angry Cactus. The meatloaf is DELICIOUS, Mac and cheese actually cheesy and seasoned and the mashed potatoes were still good even though they were cold this visit. On a previous visit I had the Cajun chicken pasta which was seasoned and delicious. The portion sizes are great, drinks are good and the service is great.
