We usually order Big Thai through Doordash, but it is an excellent location for good fresh Thai food if Indochine is too crowded. I hate to make the comparison, I personally think Indochine has better Thai food but Big Thai has quicker service and there is almost always seating available. It's family friendly, it's also quite intimate so it would make a great date spot. The costs are very reasonable. And yes the Pho is delicious! read more

A friend and I ended up randomly stopping here for dinner one night. The restaurant is located in the Mayfaire area in what looks like an upscale strip mall. When you go in, the takeout counter is right in front of you. While I was waiting for my friend, at least 10 people came in to grab takeout orders, which made me feel really positive about the food. We were sat promptly and had the full attention of the staff because the restaurant wasn't very full at that hour. We both decided on the massaman curry, mine with beef, her's with tofu. The waiter assured us it wasn't spicy unless we wanted it spicy, but mine, at the lowest wimp level, was absolutely spicy which is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. It was delicious, but my nose was running within the first few bites. We both ordered Thai iced teas to try to cool down the burning in our mouths. The restaurant is very clean and nice, the staff is great, and the food is very tasty. I just will stick to things like pad thai next time to make sure that my version of wimp isn't overwhelmed. read more

I am stuffed from lunch! Big Thai has a nice lunch special menu with eight selections (in addition to their regular lunch menu). I selected the Chicken Noodle Bowl with steamed noodles, vegetables, and bean sprouts in a peanut curry sauce. Instead of the salad with ginger sauce, I opted for the tofu coconut soup. I also ordered the vegetable spring rolls for an appetizer (although after getting my entrée, I should have skipped the rolls). I was quite surprised to get four of them, rather than the usual two that other restaurants typically serve. Starting with the tofu coconut soup: Not overly thick in the sauce, but light and pleasant with the flavors of coconut, cilantro, and lemon. The spring rolls were crunchy and very hot on the inside. I do prefer a springroll with pork, but they were fine. I saved two to bring home. The noodle bowl came out. I was shocked at the size of the bowl and I wasn't expecting it to be a soup dish. It could feed four people! Well, the noodles and soup part. The chicken was plenty for one person. I loved the flavors of the peanut curry sauce and along with the thinly sliced ginger, but it was a little too sweet for me. The menu stated "vegetables" but there were none that I could find. This dish definitely needs vegetables, such as broccoli, red bell peppers, and carrots. It was mostly noodles, which I liked, and the chicken was tender. The bean sprouts were hard to locate. But overall, a very tasty and filling dish. I had plenty to bring home for leftovers. Service by the young waitress, Songsaeng, was first-class. I do recommend this place for anyone that likes Thai food. For me, I'll skip the sweet dishes and stick to savory. read more

Everything about this place is 5 stars. I've been going for years and I haven't had one dish I don't like. The Chicken Pad Thai is my favorite and I always have to end my visit with the coconut cake because it's the best I've ever had. The ambiance is serene and beautiful. The pad Thai was very tasty and not too oily or too dry. The portions are great and we're family style servings. So you can definitely share with multiple people. Hidden strip mall Thai restaurant with cute interior & decent bites. As an avid Thai lover, it's been quite the distressing endeavor to find a decent spot in the Carolinas that measures up to the Californian Thai that I'm used to. After a particularly disappointing trip to another quite "famous" Thai restaurant in Wilmington for the pad thai, I wasn't too sure Big Thai would be any better. However, I was pleasantly surprised that it was (in terms of the pad thai, at least). Both me and my mother ordered the lunch special with the tom kha soup and pad thai. In terms of the tom kha, I could honestly not call that tom kha based on what I'm used to (it was quite strangely vinegary). However, it wasn't bad even though it was a quite different taste than what I expected. In terms of the pad thai, I was quite happy with the flavor and the portion that was given to me -- I had leftovers for lunch the next day which surprisingly warmed up better than other pad thais have for me in the past. That being said, I absolutely hated the tofu I had on top of it. I asked our server it was fried, which we confirmed. However, it seemed as if they had fried a block of tofu before dicing it and then steaming it, as only a few sides of each cubed seemed fried and coated and the inside had the steamed texture. It was, therefore, inedible to me because I loathe steamed tofu in pad thai. In terms of service and ambiance, both were decent. Our waitress was nice and attentive, and the restaurant was very quaint and decorated very well. I could definitely see it as a cute date night spot. Overall, I will definitely come back for the pad thai when I am in the area, but I'll be steering clear of their tofu and tom kha. I would encourage anyone who has been dissatisfied with the other more popular Thai options in the area to check this place out! read more

What a disappointment. The ordering process by phone for takeout was good and the help pleasant. From there - all down hill... Pad Thai too sweet and lumpy. The chicken satay was very tough and the sauce runny with no peanut butter taste. Veggies with beef were runny and tasteless. Brown pork fried rice was plentiful and ok. Spring rolls had very little inside so tasted like an over done fortune cookie. Bottom line - very poor. They add an automatic 15% uplift on all To Go orders too which seemed wrong since we picked it up. We won't be back. read more

I came here for a work lunch. The place is really cute inside. Well decorated and the service was impeccable. They have a pretty good lunch menu under $10 and includes soup or salad. We had the tom kha soup which was delicious, tried the pad Thai and green papaya salad (my favorite). They also had a really cool Buddha beer my friend tried. The bottle was adorable. The wife and I decided to kick off the year of the Tiger with our favorite Thai food, Big Thai. I went to the restaurant to order and enjoy a glass of wine while I waited. The Hook and Ladder Chardonnay was light and crisp. Our order, the Thai Spicy Coconut Soup, Satay Chicken, and Basil Rolls. Very low carb meal and the soup is also low cal. Found a good movie to watch and sit on the floor in our apartment and ate on our coffee table, sans shoes of course. We so enjoy the Spicy Coconut Soup. Hidden Gem away from home Found this place next to the office I was working in and decided that I need some Thai food. Sure enough his place did not disappoint. I am not a fan of Asian food, however, my husband likes it and I had a coupon from restaurants.com. The restaurant is located in the middle of a busy little shopping center. On entering the restaurant we were promptly greeted and taken to our seats. The small restaurant is decorated very nicely and I can see this as being a nice place to go on a date. We started with the appetizer Chicken Satay which is chicken on a stick. The chicken is marinated in a very tasty spice blend. It comes with an amazing dressing to dip the chicken in and a small cucumber salad. My husband had the Spicy Lemongrass pot. The pot is a pretty big serving, but my husband said it was very tasty and finished it all. I had the chicken pad thai which was very good. For dessert we shared a slice of coconut cake. It is very moist and not very sweet. It was perfect. I also recommend the Thai iced coffee. I highly recommend Big Thai. It's definitely worth a try. read more

Had our food ready in 30 minutes with very generous portions. Each dinner is easily able to feed two people. The pineapple fried rice and pad Thai were delicious. The only thing a little confusing was we called in our order, when you pick it up there are a bunch orders lined up with tickets. You're supposed to find your order and then pay.
