It's really hard to find good Chinese food around here but I have to say, Ming Yao is very good!I got General Tso's Chicken combination. The egg roll was great, the chicken was cooked perfectly and it came with actual fried rice not yellow rice like most places here. I also got boneless spare ribs, they were very unique. It was actually chunks instead of the tough, fatty pieces most places serve, it was excellent! This will be my go to place for sure! read more

We just tried this for take out today and I thought the food lacking flavor. The chicken fried rice was bland. The Mongolian beef had more onion and veggies than beef. The chicken with vegetables was just ok. I don't think we will order from here again only because we like a little more flavor. We gave it a try! read more

Sad they can't offer delivery anymore due to COVID/staffing, but, pick up today was seamless. I ordered at 4:56 pm and chose a 5:30 time slot and everything was ready ten minutes early. We tried the beef with broccoli for the first time and it was soo good, sauce was a perfect consistency and flavor was great. Our other faves are their home made egg rolls, wonton soup, chicken with garlic sauce, and roast pork lo mein. The food was Delicious probably the best chinese food I've had IN wilmington. The dumplings were the best dumplings in the area BY A LOT. The man at the counter was very friendly and seemed to be good with customer service. Egg Rolls were also very delicious, it was so good, I'm willing to drive 30 minutes just to eat here again. Solid fast food Chinese takeout. Ordered a few things for my family, we liked the pork wontons and crab rangoons and the hot and sour soup got good reviews as well. Beef and broccoli and Kung po chicken were good too but the sauces were too thin, didn't really stick to the food. The sesame beef was not bad but not my favorite, the sauce was a bit sweet and reminded me of the red sauce that comes with the crab rangoons, and the dish didn't have sesame flavor. Overall a pretty solid dinner but not awesome, good portion size for the price. I'll be back to try other things. read more

I decided to try this place because I heard good things about it. I went in to order and the owners were very nice and the place seemed clean but as soon as I began eating my Shrimp with Mixed vegetables I saw little bugs in the broccoli. First of all the people there are very nice and not rushed. There are a few seats, so I imagine there are a lot of take-outs going on here. The potstickers were very meaty and done right. The skins were good. We had variations on chicken including the honey chicken wings (great sauce), the Szechuan chicken (a little spicy but good), the sweet and sour chicken (standard), and sesame chicken (very good representation of this dish). The combination rice had a bit of a smoky flavor which was good. Again, the staff was wonderful. read more

Tried this place for the first time. Excellent food. Tasted very fresh. We ordered vegetable fried rice, vegetable mei fun and the seafood delight special. (As you can see, we don't eat much meat.) We requested low sodium and were pleased with the flavor. We also requested no "crab meat" in the seafood delight, as we do not like imitation crab meat. We were pleasantly surprised at the amount of shrimp and scallops in the dish. We added hot mustard to everything as we like it a bit spicy. We will definitely order again. This is our NEW go to chinese in Wilmington. Hige portions before Covid shut down but they have shrunk after. Understandable but surprising since the service is always great and i expecyed a warbing at least that portions changed to offset losses. I was coming from running Port City's Top Comic in Downtown Wilmington, North Carolina and headed back to stay with a friend in Carolina Beach. Usually the food options at this hour known to me were fast food or Waffle House. I found Ming Yao tucked away near the Lowe's and Walmart in Monkey Junction. They were friendly, fast and mid to low range on price. I got the Mongolian Beef with two egg roles and headed to CB to eat it. 20 minutes later it will still too hot to eat (WIN) and it was pretty good for Chinese. If you're looking for fine asian dining, this is not the place to go. If you're are in need of a craptastic hangover fixer then Ming Yao is the place for you! The egg rolls I had were grease-o-licious. The lo mein was of the standard machine made noodle variety, but still satisfying. I got addicted to fresh made noodles, so now all machine made noodles pale in comparison. The sweet and sour pork was a bit of a mystery. Tiny bits of pork covered with a massive amount of fried batter. Not delicious. I don't think I would ever go to Ming Yao willingly unless I was dreadfully hung over, but in that respect Ming Yao serves its purpose admirably. read more

Honestly, tired of the severe lack of customer service this place has. We've tried to overlook it for months because the food is good- just good. The girl answering the phone/behind the counter is always incredibly rude. Their business hours change with how they feel that day, we've called numerous times when they were supposed to be open for a few hours still only to be rudely told they aren't taking any more orders. Called at 6:30pm to see what time they would be open until and once again, we're told they would be stopping orders at 7:30 at the earliest. Called at 7pm on the dot, and were rudely told that they were no longer taking orders and wouldn't honor the fact that we had called thirty minutes earlier. Once again, girl on the phone was incredibly nasty and not helpful at all, even began nastily arguing with me when I simply tried to tell her that we had called earlier. Nope, didn't care, no explanation. Do not attempt to eat here, the absurdly rude girl at the front probably won't take your order anyways. I'll happily go to another place from here on out that's even further away for better customer service and food. read more
