You know a place is going to be good when you walk in and it smells delicious. I was greeted quickly and was given time to look at the menu. As it was my first time here I wanted to see my options. I winded up ordering the traditional beef pho, one with brisket and one with beef. I ordered both to go. Service was quick and my pho came in cartons of liquid and meat, one for noodles, and one baggie that had fresh basil, bean sprouts, jalapeños, hoisin, and sriracha sauce packets. Food was still hot when I got home about 15 minutes later. I assembled my meal and dug in. The broth is really good and tasted very authentic. Beef was tender and veggies were fresh and crunchy. I have been here twice when I was in Wilmington and the Pho is amazing. The restaurant is small but allows for an intimate dining experience, and the food came out super fast. The wait staff is also very attentive and it doesn't take long for you to get serviced. The prices were extremely reasonable and portion sizes were more than worth the price point. The pho broth had no flavor whatsoever, non of the food was authentic. The meat portion they give you are laughable, on top them hardly giving you any meat. The pieces you do get are dry and taste old. I had the combination pho. Absolutely disgusting. The chicken pho I order for my son wasn't any better, if anything is was worst. The broth was oddly white and thick. Chicken pieces were also dry and flavorless. Absolutely disappointing. I don't know how they have so many good reviews. Absolutely awful. I walked in and there was a long line (as usual) and nobody greeted me so a group of guys came in behind me and just sat down at a table after I had been waiting about 10 minutes. I asked if I was supposed to just sit and they said yes and then I did and they told me the table was reserved. I did get in a table at the back. The floor and bathrooms were absolutely filthy. 5 stars for the vegan pho! I ordered the medium bowl for lunch, and it was huge. The broth is beautifully clear, yet still somehow has that amazing depth of flavor. Lots of beautiful carrots and broccoli and tofu, and a heap of noodles below. Super fresh basil, lime, jalapeño, and bean sprouts on the side to add in. Soupy perfection. Same story- got a nasty cold, needed pho, called in my order - spring rolls, egg rolls, and a large pho. My order was ready in 10 minutes and was piping hot. I was able to walk right in, pay for my order, and run away back to my bed again with delicious food. The spring rolls were hot and crunchy and delicious, the peanut sauce for the egg rolls is soooo good, and the pho absolutely hit the spot! I haven't had pho in years and was excited a friend suggested this place. I'm surprised I've never been here since it's close to my work. The restaurant is small, low lit and super casual but it was packed on a Monday for lunch. We had a short wait for a table. But the moment one opened up it was cleaned and we were seated. Our waiter was friendly and we both got the rare beef pho. It came out fast and hot. It tasted like the pho I remembered and it was a lot for a small. I wish there was a bit more beef but I was full. I love, love, love Vietnamese foods. Friends of ours took us to Pho Basil and I can say it's one of my favorite places. It's not a fancy place but a hole-in-the-wall type atmosphere. Service is slow, as we arrived and grabbed one of the last two available tables. We didn't mind waiting since we could see they were busy. Once our order was taken, the food came out soon afterwards. The tables are small so we had to have our waiter remove some of the extra items to give us more room to eat. I love Pho but I decided to try another favorite, Lemongrass pork with vermicelli noodles and vegetables. DH got the lemongrass pork with rice, topped off with a fried egg. His came with a cup of pho broth as a side. We also ordered the spring rolls. These were the ones that are served cold, rather than deep fried. The shrimp were sliced thin, so I really didn't taste them. Our friends ordered two types of Pho, one with chicken, the other with beef. My dish was so flavorful and filling. The pork was cut into small pieces; DH's was not cut all the way, making it a little difficult to eat. I guess he could have asked for a knife. I tasted the pho soup and said to myself I should have ordered the Pho! But I was very happy with my dish. Everyone else was quite satisfied. Prices are very reasonable. We'll be back! read more

The only con is the bean sprouts. They were not fresh and visibly so. The server was receptive to this feedback. Our service was good in contrast to previous reviews that have mentioned poor service. However, there were only a total of 3 tables filled during our meal. The server did explain they were short staffed in the beginning of their opening. While the pho was ok, I asked for extra meat in bowl( I will pay for it, no problem) they don't put any in the bowl. Food delivery is always disjointed. I have been here a dozen times and vowed not again. The service is always terrible. The staff eating in front of guest, hands in hair not washing hands! Wiping your nose then delivering plates? Who does this??? The interior, windows and doors are always filthy, so disappointing. Go to pho Vanhly for a better experience and NO , they aren't more expensive. But you get service with a smile and a clean atmosphere to eat in. If you don't want to travel that far hit pho cafe. The owner never speaks either. Just a weird vibe....it was like this in the beginning when they opened. My first time here. After my errands I looked up the nearest Vietnamese restaurant. The place was small prob 15 or so seats. It was after 12 there and it was packed. More people keeps coming. I didn't wait long the guys was really nice even though how busy he was. I order a small brisket Pho soup and fried spring roll. The roll was okay it was overloaded of carrots so that's what I mostly tasted. The soup was good not great it had a lot of noddles and less broth. The brisket was well done so was kind tough. Overalls it was okay. You have to pay at the cashier in front. Just remember if you don't pay cash you will be charge 3% I think. Price is fare than most place around. read more

Although I have heard the food is good at this place, I have never eaten lunch or dinner here. I stopped in for a classic milk bubble tea and I was very disappointed in their version. I had walked inside and ordered this drink as takeout. I waited quite a while because it was lunchtime and they were busy. When they handed me my drink, I took it outside to my car. It was then that I noticed how white it was. I tasted it and it almost tasted like they had forgotten to put the tea in it. It just tasted like cold, watery condensed milk. So I called them immediately and placed another order for bubble tea. They said it would be ready in 10 minutes. In 10 minutes I went back inside the store and they had not even started making the new tea drink yet. I told the employee that my first cup tasted like they had forgotten to put tea in it. The employee started mixing a new drink but it looked like it was going to be exactly the same as the one I had gotten the first time; flavorless and very white in color. So I just left without the drink. I have had Boba milk tea in many places so I'm not sure what's going on at Pho Basil. Maybe they are not using a strong enough tea or they are not letting it steep long enough. Or maybe the water is not hot enough to steep the tea. Whatever it is, the resulting drink is not good. I would have given them only one star if I was judging on just the milk tea. But since other people have told me their food is good, I gave Pho Basil the benefit of the doubt and upped it to a three star rating. I am not sure yet whether I will be going back to try their food. read more

Went there for dinner with some friends last night and the staff was super friendly and accommodating. I got the small Rare Beef Pho and it was delicious. The portion size was perfect and really filling. I love to get their pho whenever I feel sick or just need something comforting too. If you aren't interested in any soup, they have plenty of other options like fried rice or their grilled meats. The fried rice is amazing and the Banh Mis are really good too. It's a very casual place too so you can just relax and enjoy your time. read more

Pho is a standout dish that truly is nourishment on a soul level. Once you've had a really good bowl of this stuff. You won't forget! Pho Basil does it well - my favorite is the beef meatball pho, and the more herbs and accents, the better. I've had thicker noodles elsewhere and prefer the thin vermicelli style they use here. I also tried the pork vermicelli and enjoyed this mixture of cold, fresh veggies for a nice crunch paired with the noodles and savory meat. I don't bring myself to write reviews frequently, but when I do; it takes a lot for me to do it. And not in the good way. My expectations weren't high initially, but I did not expect it to be way off. If you are looking for authentic Vietnamese cuisine, then look away elsewhere. Far away. This place reeks of cheap Vietnamese cuisine imitations, lacking in savory broth flavor. I ordered a combination pho and the rare beef has, for lack of better words, cheap cuts that are too large and dried when cooked. The vegetables with the pho are not even correct, and not to mention, we were only brought a small plate of vegetables for a group of 4. Now...for the broth, and I kid you not, tasted like it came from a can with added condiments to give it flavor. I bought my dad along, who always finishes his order (he got a medium seafood pho) and we left with it half full. Oh yes, the seafood consisted of laughable initimation crabs and 2 small sized shrimps. And I quote, my dad said this place isn't Vietnamese, it's terrible. Pho Dac Biet was pretty good. The broth wasn't too sweet and it had plenty of meat whereas other places in town don't give you enough. The bun bo hue was decent however the meat in it was too tough and chewy. The service wasn't great. They should've prepared better for a grand opening. Two workers in the entire restaurant and the person taking orders did not have any experience waiting tables. Felt terrible for the people that came in after we got our food as the wait time to even get drinks was exceptionally long. Will probably try again in another month or two once they get on track with some more staff. Not terrible for a first time if you have the time to wait on server and food. Update: Definitely one of my favorite spots to go to now. They got more help and the food tastes great. However, sometimes the herbs aren't so fresh in the spring rolls :( read more
