I've been going to the Chang's Chinese Restaurant in Sugar Land for quite some time, and it's become my go-to spot whenever I'm craving Chinese food. I've tried the Galleria location as well, but this review is strictly for Sugar Land--and it definitely has its own vibe. What keeps me coming back are two key things that make this my overall favorite Chinese restaurant and earn them five stars every time: their General Tso's Chicken is made with white meat, and they serve chicken egg rolls. That combination is harder to find than you'd think, and they execute both perfectly. The food is consistently excellent. The chicken fried rice deserves special mention--when you order it, be prepared for a massive portion. It comes piled high on the plate in a huge, rounded mound, and it's very good. You absolutely get your money's worth here. As for the ambiance, it's much more no-frills than the Galleria location. The dining area is small, with seating lined up and an almost direct view into the kitchen. The staff usually consists of a cook and a female cashier who also acts as the server. She's efficient, focused, and pretty much all business--no small talk, but the service gets the job done. If you're looking for fancy, this isn't it. But if you want great portions, solid flavors, and a reliable neighborhood Chinese spot, Chang's in Sugar Land delivers every time. read more

This place is a joke. I order Uber, paid for my food and 2 hrs later this BS place took my money, cancelled my order. To top off these thieves will not give my money back until 5/10 business days. So not ate and had to find another place open. This place sucks and horrible business run. read more

The restaurant was empty so one would think they would be excited to see customers. We were told to seat ourselves; when the waitress made her way over, the exchanges were very direct. Fine, I'm here for the food. My order came wrong; when I made the waitress aware, she took the plate unapologetically. She returned with the correct plate (Beef Chop Suey); however, you could tell it was rushed and a lot of the beef was undercooked and pink. I tried to pick out fully cooked pieces but not only was it flavorless, seeing the undercooked meat was making me queasy. I didn't eat the meal. As an aside, what I tasted of their Lo Mein seemed ok but their egg rolls were over-fried making them tough to bite through. Upon receiving our check, we were not asked our thoughts on the meal. Zero starts.. Terrible first customer experience, was kicked out before closing by some rude ass person that came in that first of all wasn't working. Beef was dry, the so called puffs were not good. The lady that served us was nice but she expected a tip at the end after getting treated like dogs by I'm guessing her kid. We were leaving then called us back because "we didn't sign" we did 2v1 smh so we signed agin for his satisfaction but was still rude as heck very unprofessional. Work on your service and food. Finally a Chinese restaurant that tastes like an old school Chinese restaurant but not low quality!! The chicken fried rice is so delicious- love that it has bean sprouts and grilled onion. Solid restaurant, the ingredients were fresh and ample, the dishes were well cooked and the service fine. We ate in but they clearly do a lot of take out too. My only concern was that the dishes were all on the bland side -- very mild seasoning. If you are OK with that then you enjoy the meal. We ordered mapo tofu, pork with bamboo strips, beef with biter melon, salt and peppered ribs, chicken and dry tofu, green beans and ground pork with steam and friend rice. First of all, everything was heavily soy sauced and minimal beef, pork, not chicken taste. The fried rice was just steam rice mixed with soy sauce, it was soggy and not stirred fry dry. Food is decent, pricing is a bit high. Most of the time when you indicate (online order) or order over the phone of specific ingredients to add or to remove, it is just about ALWAYS missed. Ordered and paid for combination fried rice ( pork, chicken and shrimp). I used DoorDash. When it came it was a big styrofoam box of plain brown rice. See photo. I called restaurant and was told they'd call me back. That took 25 minutes. They told me they'd give me a refund or I could come get another one. I was too far away to deliver to. The receptionist are the owner whoever she is is very rude and has very poor customer service, we ordered our meals from DoorDash and when it came, the meal was wrong. We tried to call the restaurant to rectify the issue, and the lady on the phone kept hanging up in her face. So the second time she hung up in her face I went up there to try to talk to her, and she constantly walked away from me flaring her hands at me saying that she's too busy. Honesty this place doesn't understand the meaning of seasoning. I ordered the beef pepper steak and the beef had little to no sauce with no taste to it at all. The rice is horrible! They gave me 1 container of rice for 3 Combos. The rice is gummy with no flavor! The lady that take your order is rude. I will never go back!! NASTY! Absolutely disgusting. Wish I could give zero stars. Wanted to try this place out because it had decent reviews but I couldn't be anymore dissatisfied. The plastic from the cheap to go containers was all melted by the time I got home and while eating, I noticed that the plastic was PEELING OFF INTO MY SAUCE. I WAS EATING PLASTIC. To top it off, the chicken was so so so dry and chewy and there was way too much flour to chicken ratio. I was basically eating flour in sauce... I cannot believe I spent $80 on this place only for all of us to throw away our food. I mean, who wants to eat styrofoam??? Never again. While in the area, I stopped by for a quick lunch. The waitress greeted us and was very attentive with our needs - water, when it was time to order, refills etc. She immediately brought us complementary peanuts to snack on while we looked through the menu. There were many dishes to choose from, but the descriptions were vague. We ordered the family style tofu, sweet and sour fish, and beef with orange peel. It was unexpected for all the dishes to be fried and lathered with very thick sauce and oil. I was only able to eat two pieces per dish. Overall, the service was great. One of my new favorite places! They have 2 menus - the more American one and the authentic Chinese one. We usually end up ordering from both. What to order: General Tso's chicken - 4 stars- as many others mention- it's good here! Nice big round chunks of chicken and lots of sauce! Very good flavor. :) also a nice lunch special at around $7. Chang's tofu- 5 stars- it's just good. Silky good. Can't explain it but we get it all the time. Love the black beans in it too! Beef with black bean sauce -4 stars- another delicious $7 lunch special. Lots of tender beef, bell peppers and mushrooms. I eat every single black bean- love the flavor of this dish! I need to learn to make it myself. It's almost too much to eat, especially when you add in the giant egg roll too. Fried fish with salt & pepper- 5 stars -lightly fried, good fish, and yummy! Totally worth the price. It does taste better if you eat it at the restaurant vs taking it to go. Loses some of the crispiness. :/ Pork with mustard greens/green beans/dry tofu - 3 stars- personally not a fan. It also has bamboo in it, which I really don't like. It tasted healthy and the green beans are more like edamame beans and not your string beans. Overall, not what I was expecting. Chicken with chilis - 3 stars - it was a little too spicy for me, so I might see if they can make it mild. I did like the shiitake mushrooms and chicken part, but definitely need to avoid the peppers and their seeds. Eggplant (spicy garlic) - 4 stars- yummy! I really like eggplant and this compares with a lot of other Chinese restaurants that make good eggplant with pork. I do like that their pork is more strips and not just ground pork too!
