The family and I had gone to try this place for the first time. The service was amazingly great. We were a large party, yet still was quick. It was totally surprising. It was fast. Our waitress put in our orders, and the food started coming out quickly. The reason for the 4 stars is because the Menudo was not served hot like it should be but instead was just warm. That day, in addition, they didn't have pata/nervio. It did come with hand made corn tortillas. The Molcajete Mar y Tierra was really good, hot in temperature, and spicy. Monday morning, super dead like 3 customers dining. To start it off we ordered a torta and after like 20 mins waiter come to let us know they ran out of bread?? Ordered 2 burritos instead. So after seeing this location on TikTok me and my gf decided to come try it out , I called ahead of time to see the wait time there was no wait time at all which was a plus every other spot had a 45 minute and being that my gf is pregnant that's out of the question at times lol , so upon arriving we got seated instantly and as soon as we got seated we got attended to as well right away we started off with the queso fundido con chorizo that was a 10/10 oh btw the chips and salsa here is also a 10/10 ! We went on and ordered the chilaquiles verdes with steak and eggs and man again another 20/10! The taco dorado con carne also 20/10!! My girlfriend rated the quesabirria taco 6/10 though and the consome was also like a 5/10 but nonetheless everything else was a 20/10 the ladies here working are very nice and attentive the service provided today was a 20/10 ! Food is mediocre. I was hoping for the authentic Mexican food experience but it wasn't as expected. I ordered the Chapala fajitas, skimpy on the meat portion and the shrimp were so small, I didn't realize I had eaten them. I counted 3 small shrimp. Service needs improvement. The environment is loud, music can be toned down a bit. TVs on the walls are irrelevant. The wall that is missing a tv gave a tacky look to the restaurant. We came here a couple days ago and ordered the chorizo burrito with hash browns and my kid liked it. I ordered 4 tacos 2 asada, 1 pastor and 1 carnitas. The asada was dry. Carnitas...dry than the asada. The pastor was actually really good. Now the size...2 inches! Literally the smallest tacos I've ever had. For $2.50 and $3 on Doordash it's a complete rip off! This place blew up on social media, not sure why after going here this morning. First of all it's dirty, the floors are so gross, trash everywhere. The little containers in the tables where they put all the salsa/salt/pepper were FILTHY i would not use any of that on my food. Ordered a pina colada, it was nasty and watered down, didn't even taste like a pina colada. If you can't make those drinks, why even have them on the menu? I took one sip and sent it back. Thankfully they took it off my bill, i didn't ask for them to do that because at the end of the day i did order it so i appreciate that. The food took literally 50 minutes to come to the table and we only ordered one thing to share which was the breakfast molcajete. The food was very subpar i wouldn't say it was great and i wouldn't say it was bad. but 50 minutes for some beans and raw onion in salsa, 1 piece of thin steak 1 piece of chorizo is crazy to me. I think i was just so hungry at that point that i just inhaled whatever they brought out. Male server there was not attentive at all. It was funny after we complained about the food taking too long he began bringing small things one at a time to the table. Plates and silverware, then the salsa. but the whole 45 minutes before he pretty much ignored us until we flagged him down and asked about the food. Chapala has a great selection of authentic Mexican food . I would always go for lunch or dinner until I recently just found out they are starting a new brunch menu . The food was delicious and the service was top tier . Mimosas are new over there and have a great price and taste they're so good you can't go wrong especially for a nice brunch date. Overall I might be slightly generous with 4/5 stars however their servers were so friendly which gives Chapala's life. I would not be against going back if I was invited by someone else. I ordered a margarita and it was sooooo watery and had no flavor tasted like pure alcohol, so gross I didn't drink it. Not coming back. And it also smelled inside, like wet dog or wet floor. And the restrooms are disgusting, they need to clean them. If I could give 0 stars I would, the only positive is that we ordered a lot of food and it was cheap. I am DONE with this place and DONE with these people! First we went to the Express location. It was horrible! I'm no stranger to birria. I ordered the Birria Combo. I got boiled plain shredded pork in a pile on a plate next to the most flavorless beans and rice I ever ate. In fact the beans straight up tasted like tap water. I asked if it was correct and I was told yes, that's their birria combo. We are never returning their ever again. In fact the cafe next door had at least 20 people waiting outside for a table while the Express location was empty. Basically our own fault for not paying attention to red flags. Then weeks later I came across their Facebook page loaded with pictures of their food. One of them was the Birria Combo. A plate with no rice and beans (unless it came on the side) and the entire plate was filled with meat and red sauce galore. But it wasn't advertising the Express location it was their Fontana location so we decided to try it again. Much better that time. I got nachos, the wife and kids got quesadillas. Ok great. So we decided to go back as this location seemed better. btw, the two locations are one in the same. I asked the Fontana one about our Express experience and they just shrugged their shoulders at us and couldn't care less. Our third trip was our last trip. These people have no clue what birria is. They are an absolute disgrace to their culture. Instead of the combo I just went for birria tacos. I got two different things. The first taco was a fat taco. Literally! ZERO MEAT!!! The entire taco was fat. The second one was plain boiled meat in a corn tortilla that was barely fried so it was a soggy mess. Not a spec of red anywhere on the tortilla. It wasn't fried in anything but oil and no consume at all!!!! Which makes sense, because it's not actual birria so there wouldn't be any consume to serve with it. Zero spices. Literally nothing but boiled shredded beef. Also, aren't they typically pork? If you want go full ethnic, goat, but I'm not expecting that. Nothing about those taco's were birria, AT ALL!!! The tea was spoiled. It turned rotten. I assume it was left over from the previous day and never refrigerated as it melted the ice very quick and there's no way it was fresh unless they aren't cleaning the container they make tea in and it's all mold on the bottom. I attached a picture of how not busy it was when we were there (mid week, Thursday at 12:30 03/16/2023 - in case the owners want to figure out what is going on) and yet it still took 20 minutes to get our check and get it paid. That is absurd! What really ticked me off was the person serving us acting like she didn't understand English. I was confused about their tortas. A regular torta was $9.99. Ok. Their torta ahogada is $8.99. Isn't that just basically a torta wet style, i.e. more? I was asking why the regular one was a dollar more. She just looked at me like I was speaking dog or something. She couldn't answer me, couldn't understand my question so I just said nevermind. She understood that real quick, turned around and walked off. Then to top off the entire lunch experience, while my wife and I were in deep conversation someone came buy to take our plates. When I reached for a chip I noticed they were gone. Who in their right mind take away chips and salsa from a table where people are still sitting there? I just can't with these people. We ordered our food to go and salsa was missing. My tacos duraditos had one without any beans. My father in laws mariscos came without any juice. And my husbands burrito was mostly rice only about 2 tablespoons of meat at most. Horrible kitchen staff. Its obvious that the staff needs a lot of improvement. No care was taken with our order and when we called over the phone, the waitress didnt even know what the menu stated that they had.
