I moved to Chapel Hill 42 years ago and remember getting my first set of replacement tires for my 1981 Toyota Corolla at the Franklin Street location. I chose Chapel Hill Tire because it was the only place within walking distance from my dorm. Over the years, I consistently took my trusty Toyota there for service. When I eventually gave the car to a friend, it had 275,000 miles and still ran perfectly. My friend added another 100,000 miles before the old Corolla finally went to Toyota Heaven. In those 42 years, I've lost count of how many cars Chapel Hill Tire has serviced for me, my wife, and my four kids--roughly around 17 cars. We've never had an issue until about a year ago when there was a problem with an oil change. Fortunately, the warning lights worked, and I was able to address it myself. When I informed Chapel Hill Tire about the mistake on my next visit, they were thankful and assured me it was a fluke. However, the same mistake happened again on my next visit with the same car. I was shocked and unhappy. When I informed the garage and the manager, they were equally shocked and horrified. They identified the root cause, explained that it was a data error, and assured me that it had been permanently addressed. Chapel Hill Tire went above and beyond to rectify the situation and ensure it never happens again. Admitting and owning up to a mistake shows a lot of character, and Chapel Hill Tire has shown me just that. Despite the errors, their response has reinforced my trust in them. I look forward to bringing the next 17 vehicles to Chapel Hill Tire. read more

They failed to properly secure one of my wheels. I got halfway home and the front end of my car started making horrible noises. When I did get home, I found all lug nuts loose on the offending wheel, with one nut almost falling off. They also failed to return my wheel lock key to my car and claimed they did return it. A thorough search of my car turned up nothing. What seemingly made all of this worse was a lack of contrition on their part, after essentially imperiling a customer with shoddy work. After alerting them of the lost wheel lock key, I actually had to call them back to force a refund for it. Another minor issue included very poor reception on my Verizon phone service in their waiting room, such that I could do no phone-related work or view their inspection report for confirming car work to be done (they do have guest Wifi, which I noticed after the fact. no texting though). Monitor the work this place does very carefully. read more

Chapel Hill Tire gave an insanely high quote for something that multiple other locations had a price difference of over a grand. The car was not drivable and it felt like they were capitalizing on the fact that the car needed fixed as soon as possible. My engine was leaking oil and they were going to charge $2200 to replace the filter adapter and then another separate charge was an oil change for $90 which included the oil they said was already fully leaked out of the vehicle! After notifying them of the price difference they said they can price match anywhere which seemed to be an attempt to double down on their price being reasonable and when I came back with another quote they said it wasn't possible and they brought up reviews of the other location which felt unprofessional. This location only has 3.5 stars on Yelp which I feel is much more representative of the quality and pricing of services they provide. read more

I have brought in my car for an oil change to this location about three maybe four times. The first time I dropped my car up the guy at the front desk was eating pizza which I find highly unprofessional. They always say that they're going to call when your car is ready, but I never receive a phone call. This most recent experience I scheduled an appointment the day before at 10:30. I drop my car off the next day on time and around 130 comes around still didn't hear an update. I called them at which point they told me they still hadn't brought my car back to start the oil change and that they would call me when it was done. So at this point, it's been three hours since I dropped it off. I ended up doing something and got busy. They called once at four and once at 4:15. I did try to call back but by that point they were close. Had I answered the call at 415 I still would not have made it there in time before they closed. Considering I would've had to call an Uber and wait for that Uber and traffic was terrible at that time. So I was not able to pick my car up until the next day. Will not be returning. read more

Got an appointment for next day service of Prius . Was told needed to change battery , but there had not been an issue with it. It is only 3.5 years old. I declined. Then charged me $200 for 2 oil changes and could not print the invoice. Said they would email it to me and it has not yet arrived. I will not be going back there as felt they were trying to scam me for unnecessary repairs/ replacements. They used to be better when I took it to the branch near Harris Teeter on Willow drive, at the University Mall. But that was 4 years ago. read more

If they fixed bikes I wouldn't even bring a tricycle here. I went here for a fuel injection service and left with a coolant leak. I got the coolant leak repaired here and less than 24 hours my transmission went out with ZERO warning. If you go there you'll be right back within 2-3 weeks. I'm convinced they fix one thing and break another to keep you coming back because I've heard this same issue from others + other mechanics that have to clean up their problems thats been made in the past. read more

When I first inquired at Chapel Hill Tire on Fordham Blvd regarding their ability to resolve for us a long-standing vehicle issue, Bobby responded by saying that he had a high degree of confidence in CHT's Certified Mechanics, and his faith in the abilities of his mechanics proved to be well founded as within the span of a single year, the mechanics at Chapel Hill Tire resolved for us two long standing issues with our vehicles that the respective dealerships had been unable to correct! First, CHT restored the A/C on our 2007 Honda Civic to perfect working order by tracing the source of the A/C problem that we had been living with for over two years to an intermittently malfunctioning relay-switch! Likewise, CHT resolved another long-standing problem regarding multiple intermittent false-warning lights displaying on our 2014 Subaru Forester's dash that the Subaru Dealer's shop had declared to be "just something you'll have to live with"! CHT immediately determined the source of the malfunction to be a faulty taillight and quickly resolved that problem as well! Needless to say, Chapel Hill Tire is now our first choice for auto maintenance and repair! read more

I have been to several locations of CH Tire, and the one on Fordham Blvd is my favorite. The folks there are so friendly, helpful and accommodating. One thing I really like is that for shorter service needs, they will schedule the work to be done while you wait. (At the Honda dealer I used to go to, I hated having to take a whole day without a car and fuss with the shuttle for small service needs). The Fordham Blvd location has great customer service from both the front office and the technicians. I was leaving town on a long drive this week when my tire light came on - I could not figure out why so I drove over to CH Tire and they kindly checked and adjusted my tire pressure for free. read more

This place is a total scam. Charged $770 for services they didn't do. Broke down 1 hour after getting my car back. And my engine light was on. This was not on when I brought it in. They did attempt to rectify the problem to no avail. 1 week later, I'm broke down again. The change oil light came on and said I had 0% oil life. But I paid for an oil change on 11/20/2023. Searching for the right set of tires and then making an appointment online via their website was very easy. In addition to the new tires, I also requested a state inspection and headlight restoration. I dealt with Jamie, who was professional and knowledgeable. The work done was great, too -- my fourteen year-old Acura loves its new set of Michelins and the headlights on the car now look like new. My wife and I both got alignments here in the past year. Mine was in sep of 23. Service preformed was good. Alignment sheets appeared correct. My wife said they are super nice and helpful when dropping of the vehicles. They were quick and accurate. Amber most recently went above to help me. When my truck was aligned their service platform was down and didn't send me the alignment results. I called to request them and Jamie answered the phone (I think that's his name) he was snarky to me, but transferred me to Amber as she was the one who I originally set the appointment with. She was kind, helpful and she sent me the results like I wanted. I'd go back and ask for Amber if I ever needed anything else. read more

I went to Chapel Hill Tire for an alignment, an oil change, and a rotate and balance. Customer service was good, but the problem is what they told me was "wrong" with my car. They said they couldn't do an alignment because the tie rod ends were "frozen" and quoted me more than $1000 to fix that issue. They also said my tires were "worn" and would need to be replaced soon. My tires are all-season Continental tires (definitely not just the cheapest tire) and they've only been on the car for 9 months! I also just took my car to my normal repair shop (not in the Triangle area) and they were able to align my car with no issues- the tie rod ends were not frozen after all! It's frustrating to go somewhere that you think you can trust to be honest and then have them try and scam you for things that aren't wrong with your car. I understand they are in the business of making money but I just don't find it acceptable. read more

I've been going to these guys since they were Auto Pro-To-Call and I have to say I think they do amazing work. I'll share a story about them vs. the fucking Crown Honda Dealership service dept: I have a CRV that was having a sunroof leak problem. I took it to Crown, they charged me a diagnostic fee, and said, "sorry, we can't find anything!" I called Kurt here at Chapel Hill Tire and I told him I was having the problem and before I could get it out he says - over the phone! - "does the problem happen more when you're parked uphill or downhill?" Yes! Turns out there's some kind of draining tube on the sunroof that gets clogged easily. It was a simple fix. Crown fucking Honda didn't even know that. Additionally I've spent literally thousands over the years fixing the 5 cars we've owned since living in NC, and even though my wife curses them every time we have to pay them, they do great, honest work. I've been using these guys for over a year and am continually pleased with their level of honesty, professionalism, and timeliness. Brian and Chris (CS guys) are very friendly, can talk cars, and always remember me on my return visits (probably mostly because I'm not shy in helping myself to the candy dishes they set out!). It's wise to call for an appointment, though they usually accept walk-ins. The waiting room is pretty comfy with a TV, assortment of reading material, water cooler, and little cubicles set up if you want to bring your laptop in and get some work done while you wait. They also offer a transport service to take you to & fro, should you need to drop your car off. Sign up for the mailing list - they send coupons and reminders about overdue maintenance. Had a leaky tire on my rental car. I went there 4 days ago to get it checked. Due to a open house, there were very busy. A very nice young lady filled the tire with air and checked for any nails. She could not see anything wrong so I left. I returned due to a very slow leak. They repaired it very quickly. The staff were very friendly and courteous to me. My a/c was leaking at the high side port and at my condenser. APTC graciously informed me of this for $180 right before they told me it would cost $1,000 to fix. Right after that I went and bought a new port valve ($4), some leak stopper ($15), and a new condenser ($150) and just installed it myself. And now I have awesome cool air. I'm sure APTC does solid, dependable work. They are courteous. But you have to realize having a garage that pays 4-5 guys to wear slacks at the front desk and have wifi in the waiting room - those costs get passed on to you. If those things are important to you then knock yourself out. But if cost or just getting the job done is important, go somewhere else. read more

Recently brought my car in for state inspection. They checked it out and I needed new tires. I didn't have time that day, so I scheduled another appointment for the following week. After putting the tires on, they told me there were some joints that were worn preventing the car from ideal alignment. The explanations I received were thorough and in layman's terms. I felt that I fully understood the issues and what was needed to repair them and why it would be necessary. They didn't pressure me for getting it done ASAP when it wasn't 100% urgent. For both visits I waited for the car in their very clean office/waiting room. They have 2 desk spaces with little cubicles and they have free, good performing Wi-Fi. I was able to do all my work while I waited for the car, including taking phone calls. If you don't have to work, they have a widescreen TV. A major plus that adds to flexibility. The estimates they provided were also easy to understand. They called a few days after each visit to make sure all the service was satisfactory. read more

I have used Auto Pro To Call several times for oil changes when I was too lazy to do them myself, and I have to say, these guys do them quickly and proficiently. One of the best things about them is they do not try to push a ton of other services on you that you'll often find when you go elsewhere for something as simple as an oil change (often times other service stations will say you need a transmission flush/coolant flush/etc when you really don't). If they see something very bad they will let you know, as any good mechanic should, but they do not upsell. I have since moved on to a closer service station, but I was happy with the service I got while I went to this one. read more

I've been taking all of my cars here since the business started (up to 4 cars now). All of the staff are friendly and professional, work hard to take care of me, and go above and beyond to meet my needs. Example: I've had someone personally drive me where I needed to be, just because the rental place was giving them a hard time. A few things that set them apart from other service places: 1) they don't talk down to women, 2) they don't try to upsell, and 3) they are very good at telling me what needs to be done now vs. stuff that can wait. I completely trust my place with this car. I have a BMW which for some reason leads people to believe that I have millions of dollars. The BMW was donated to me by a generous family member so I do not have money to throw around. They are very helpful explaining anything you want to know about your car and the repair. They don't have that "trust me I know what I am doing and you don't need to understand" attitude. I have worked a lot with Bobby who is very nice and have experienced working with many others. I have not had a bad experience here. They even caught something that had been missed by Performance BMW on a deer collision that they worked out with my insurance company. I didn't have to pay a dime. I don't usually ever need the waiting room because I just drop my car off and leave it all day. They do pretty much everything you will ever need other than extensive body repair. The waiting room has snacks and free wireless internet, perfect for those who don't have time to waste during their busy work day. The mailing list is definitely worth it (like the other review said). They send you so many coupons! read more

Just take the time to 'shop around" and get estimates and prices, that's all. Compared to other local independent auto repair shops, their prices seem to be on the high side. They're NOT a bad place at all. The cost of doing business in Chapel Hill is HIGH for them. Taxes and regulatory and environmental costs are the highest in the Triangle. What's MOST IMPORTANT is establishing a RELATIONSHIP with a service advisor and a shop THAT YOU CAN TRUST. read more

My wife had a good relationship with Auto Pro to Call and recommend I try them when I was looking to change shops. I've been there twice so far and have been very satisfied with the work and the transparency in their recommendations. For example I was surprised that they recommended my tires needed replacing. They put the car on the rack and let me walk around myself to see exactly what they saw & boy were they right! For we the important part of this was being able to speak directly with the people making the recommendations, and being shown the issue without any difficulty. I usually call and get the work set up and drop my car (Acura TL) off after hours drop box. I have been a customer off-and-on for many years and keep coming back. I recently bought a new pair of Continentals for my Subaru Outback. Curt was informative and quite helpful. I never felt any pressure to buy something I did not need. A few months later, I heard an alarming scraping sound and was able to bring the vehicle right in. Apparently, a small stone had become wedged behind the brake's vacuum plate. Less than an hour later I was on my way with no charge. I'll be back! read more
