Ingold did an amazing job when I brought a car in for servicing last week. The vehicle had unclear electrical issues, and after having AAA test the power/battery, I assumed it would need a new alternator and potentially a new starter. Ingold's team were able to locate and diagnose the issue as simply a bad battery, and provided both excellent work and at an outstanding value. While my former experience was very good with them, this week's was definitely not. I called early in the week to see if I could make an appointment to have my rotors/brakes looked at. The nice gentleman I spoke with said sure, but it's first come, first serve and best to drop it off for the day (he didn't mention timing). Since today (Friday) was my day off, after finishing another errands I went to drop it off around 10:15am, thinking it's fine if it takes awhile to get to. When I got there I was told they close at 1pm and are booked up (not great, but fine). But then the employee with the beard, even after I told him about the previous phone call and what I was told, instead of apologizing for the miscommunication on their part, felt the need to three times say something to the effect of 'You can't just bring a car in here at 10am.' I probably wouldn't have written a review, but then, out of the blue he asked me 'Do you even know what a rotor is?' I feel pretty confident he would not have asked this patronizing question if I was male. read more

I can't recommend this place enough! Being new to Durham, I was worried about who I can trust when I need to get my car fixed. Lo and behold I had a flat tire one week of moving into my new apartment so I called Ingold and they fixed it for me that day! I have since been back to get my oil changed and my boyfriend has been there to get his brake pads replaced. The guys working the front desk are awesome and full of spirit always. You will have to get in line at 7:15am for when they open at 7:30am if you want guaranteed service that day, but they have always had our cars done before closing! I came home from a holiday weekend to discover a dead litter of feral kittens in our basement and a near-flat tire on my car. Sigh. My hubby told me to run down the road to Merchant's Tires. But being the yelper I am, I checked here first. Woah. Avoid. Luckily, positive reviews pointed me in the direction of Ingold which is just downtown. I walked in and asked if they could take a look at my tire, dropped my keys, and sat in the offset waiting room. They do have wifi, a TV, and a coffee maker with some vending machines. Would've loved to see a water cooler in there. They had my car ready in about 45 minutes. Culprit: roofing nail. Got a plug put in for just $20. Bart Warren was amazing. My family and I were in Durham for my oldest son's travel baseball tournament at NCstate, Duke, and Elon. On the way to NC state, my wheel bearing actually broke and I was put in a tight predicament. At first I schedule an appointment with Firestone but then realized the bad experiences I've had with franchise repair shops. I found Ingold Tire from online based off the amazing reviews and plus it was locally owned. I arrived at the shop around 4 and was instantly greeted by Bart. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. I felt bad for coming so late but didn't have a choice. He was able to get me in and assured me they can fix my car before closing. Throughout the time in the waiting room he kept checking on us and kept us updated. It was like I've known him for years. My car was fixed in no time. I highly recommend this place for any type of service or maintenance to your vehicle. They really do treat you like family. Bart deserves a raise or promotion. 5 stars is not enough to represent how great the service at Ingold Tire and Auto has been. We live 2.5 hours away and are only in Durham because my daughter was admitted to Duke Hospital for a transplant and as luck would have it our car started misfiring during our stay. I spoke to Bill several times over the couple days they had our car and he was extremely nice and helpful. I also spoke to the tech that worked on our car, Patrick, who could not have been more helpful and personable. The two of them made sure I was up to date on their work the whole time. The staff as a whole really care about their customers, making a point to ask about our daughters recovery from surgery several times. My only regret is that because we live 2.5 hours away I cannot recommend them to everyone I know who needs auto care. As a visitor from out of town, I chose Ingold's based on their numerous positive reviews I read online and I could not have possibly been more satisfied with their services so if you're reading this and trying to make a decision for yourself I strongly urge you to give them your business. Can't recommend enough! After NTB did a hack job on my tire (trying to plug a hole from a screw... I had fixed it with fix a flat which made the procedure more complicated, and the repair only lasted 1 day), Ingold came to the rescue!! They spent a long time cleaning out my tire to ensure that all of the fix a flat was gone, then patched up the leak which has held up for over a month since. They respected that my tires were brand new and were willing to go the extra mile so that I did not have to replace them -- whereas NTB or other chains would have happily sold me new tires! The people were SO friendly and not condescending, much nicer than I've experienced at other shops. The pricing was more than fair considering the work that they did. They even offer a shuttle if you have to leave your car there. Overall, I can't recommend this shop enough. Even if I have to replace my tire due to the damage, I would absolutely come back here. I was in from out of town at Duke regional and my car started acting up. I had driven about 700 miles overnight and I know I looked absolutely terrible and was probably incoherent in my pajamas. The people here was so incredibly nice and got my car in even though they looked pretty busy. They did an oil change and a diagnostic on my car which was so incredibly appreciated. I had changed, came back later, and they were still so kind in explaining everything to me. They also didn't completely gouge me which is great. I walked out of the end of my work day to a flat tire. Immediately I started searching for nearby tire shops, and there was Ingold half a mile away. Bill answered the phone prior to them closing and STILL provided fast, informative, and friendly service. He told me that I could leave my car there overnight, place my keys and info in the drop box, and the tire would be in the next morning and that everything would be taken care of. Although I opted to not leave my car overnight, the next morning I called as soon as they opened, and Rod and Bill assured me that they already ordered the tire and even would be able to change the oil in my car. I must say, the phone conversations made me extremely comfortable with placing my vehicle in their care. When I arrived to Ingold, everyone... I MEAN EVERYONE was so helpful and warming. I LOVE the experience I had at Ingold, as well as everyone's bright personalities. They provided me with shuttle service to my office, and once done (LESS THAN 2 HOURS) I was provided with helpful recommendations, and offered the shuttle to pick me up again. There's a very good reason these guys have 5 stars. They run an honest business and are reasonably priced. All the guys there are so friendly. Smiles everywhere!! I will admit, I know nothing about cars and I believe they DO NOT try to take advantage of that. They've earned my trust and have a customer for life. Here's my story:: A few months ago I had went to another repair shop to get my breaks looked at. They said it wasn't my breaks but something else that would cost almost $900 to fix. I decided to get a 2nd and 3rd opinion. Both said it was just my breaks. Ingold was my 3rd opinion and they happened to be $100 less than the other repair shop. Fast forward to today.... I'm now hearing a funny noise from my car. I bring my car to Ingold to get it looked at. I'm talking to the man at the counter and he initially thinks it could be a belt or maybe my alternator. After about 30 mins he comes back and tells me there is nothing wrong with my car. The noise I'm hearing has something to do with the AC compressor (I think that's what he said) and it's completely normal. I'm still in shock that I left a mechanic and there was nothing to fix. How often does that happen? These guys will not make any unnecessary repairs!!! I kept asking him if he was sure trying to make them take my money lol. read more

These guys are your "been here for 70 years and earned every positive review and return customer" type of establishment. There's a reason Ingold is the trusted repair and mechanic shop for half of Durham. Sure, they charge more than the discount tire store, but I've never had any issues with Ingold. Had them replace 2 broken side mirrors, lots of oil changes and tire rotations, they did some investigation for my wife's sputtering engine, and probably other vital fixes that I can't recall at the moment. The 4 stars instead of 5 is becuase they do tend to be on the more expensive side (for the things I've taken to them) for engine and autobody repair items. But they're just about the most trustworthy bunch around, so that's why I always point the tow truck to Ingold! Thanks guys, and keep up the good work. read more

Today is good day; today, I became a customer at Ingold Tire. I spoke with three or four employees and the owner in the past 24 hours after realizing I had a more-difficult-than-average tire conundrum. They had a perfect opportunity to oversell me on a set of four Yokohama tires at $220 apiece. I was amenable if depressed about my wallet. After ordering the tires, Joe (I believe it was) did something I didn't expect. He went above and beyond to research a more affordable option. He called me back not only to offer me the same exact size tire with negligibly differing tread for my AWD Subaru. He backed up his advice with cogent logic and his explanations did not contain drop of condescension. The ultimate test with every mechanic is when I report my willfully independent car repair endeavors to my dad, who is a retired police officer, lifelong car and motorcycle nut, and OCD SoCal Hot Rodder. Sometimes he shakes his head at me. But when I repeated what the guys at Ingold said to me, my dad was impressed. He said "those are some good people". I concur. Beyond the phone calls, walking into the shop this morning was a feel-good experience. Photos of the employees line the walls . It's unpretentious to the point of being cozy. I was standing in line behind the a Superior Court judge, who is clearly a long-time customer. If a *judge's* capacity for judgment in making everyday decisions about where to get his tires repaired isn't enough to impress you, I don't know what is! When I got to the counter, Mr. Ingold's demeanor gave me the uncanny feeling that I was talking to one of my dad's childhood friends. So if I had to pick just one value that comes through at Ingold, it would be "family": First, you can see in even the smallest interactions how the staff and owner treat each other with the same ease and respect of a healthy family. I would bet money they are all well-taken care of. Second, I felt like they treated me-- a complete stranger and first time customer with some demanding requests-- as family. They were backed up today but managed to come in 2 hours under their estimate even with alignment, which means I can get to my dog's appointment at NCSU without being in a rush. I'm already in love with my new tires. My ride feels a little softer, and my car is easier and more fun to drive. Speaking of dogs: I can't leave out that dog people--and senior dog lovers-- are the best and most trustworthy kind of people (sorry, cat people; it's true). Mr. Ingold, a former student-athlete and Duke alum, invited me to bring my dog next time I come in for a FREE balance and rotation (which, btw, I get for the life of my nicely-warrantied tires). We thought we would only need an oil change, but we needed a new motor mount too as it turns out. But their prices are SO affordable and you can tell that they really love what they do here too. I've had Ingold do alignments on my VW Golf and my wife's Ford Ranger. Our car and truck are not new vehicles that track true down the road thanks to these guys. My wife has had other mechanical work done including an issue with her rear drum brakes that turned out to be an inexpensive spring replacement. I had forgotten about this gem until I was ripped off by another tire/service center in Durham (avoid Colonial Tire at the 55/54 intersection!! They are under new management & will rip you off)! I needed 4 new tires and Ingold is no nonsense. They tell you the price and they don't tack on additional fees like mounting, lifetime balance & rotation, etc. The price I was quoted was the price I paid! I also needed an alignment, which was reasonably priced (around $74) and a state inspection. I came out of there paying exactly what I had anticipated and they didn't come back to me and tell me I needed additional costly repairs (like Colonial Tire did). They are friendly & efficient. I brought it in around 9am and they had it ready for me to pick up by 11am! They seemed genuinely appreciative of my business and were so pleasant! Nail in my tire? Crap. I don't know of any decent auto shops in this area as I always go back to my hometown to get my auto needs met at Ed's Tire where I have been going for about 7 years... The idea of going to another auto shop that may take advantage of me because I'm a young woman (who appears to not know anything about cars) is scary, but I found the reviews of Ingold Tire to be good and close enough to my internship that I took a chance... and I'm glad I did! The manager (I think?) was very nice and friendly. I got there before they even opened since I wasn't sure if they'd be busy or not and he was nice enough to let me in while he was setting up the store. It took about 30 mins to plug my tire up and it was only $20, yay! I am happy that I wasn't pressured to do other work (although he told me I needed new tires and even gave me a quote to compare with my usual auto shop). I do wish they filled my tire back up to the appropriate psi level instead of keeping it at the level it was when I came in (air can still leak even with a nail blocking the hole). All in all though, I'd definitely come back here if I don't have the time to drive back to my usual auto shop. read more

We always go to Ingold for the big stuff because they're old-school in the best sense - honest, reasonably priced, friendly, professional. Even though our car is more than a decade old, they take excellent care of it. As someone who is fairly car illiterate, I appreciate how they communicate their recommendation, how the service or part will improve the car's performance, the cost, and potential alternatives. They are never condescending or pushy. A word of caution - word has gotten out about their excellent service and they are usually *slammed*. Call ahead if possible! read more
