My glovebox was making an extremely loud revving noise every time I turned on the Heat/AC, and being that it's wintertime I knew I had to get this fixed ASAP. I immediately called Andy and explained the situation and he told me it was no big deal, the issue was a simple fix and even explained to me over the phone how to repair it myself! Sure enough, a quick trip to Auto Zone and three simple screw removals later, I had installed a new blower motor and my car was sounding brand new! For as long as I live in Columbus I will bring my vehicles here. Andy is an amazingly honest and fair individual. My car was making some noises that I thought were peculiar. I took it into Chapin's and Andy popped the hood, looked it over, asked questions, took it for a drive and explained to me that my 1995 Honda Civic is just a kinda loud car. He walked me through some things that could be done but weren't crazy important and life threatening. He could have easily told me that these particular items NEEDED to be fixed and weasel me out of money. But I honestly think Andy doesn't have a weasel bone in his body. I was there for 30 minutes, got my car looked at, driven, and tires filled with air and he didn't charge me anything. Chapin's is the place to take your car!! His hours are early to mid afternoon. 6 am to 3 I believe. There isn't any place to sit and wait for your car, so have a ride if you can. Great guy! Great service! read more

Phenomenal service at unbelievable prices! My Honda needed a new timing belt and water pump. In a $1k estimate at Tuffy on Smoky Row Road, they recommended a new thermostat as well. Three days later we stumbled across Andy and he fixed the timing belt for LESS THAN HALF what Tuffy estimated. (It didn't need a new thermostat, btw, which they wanted $75 for.) Plus I get the bonus of shopping local and speaking directly to the owner/mechanic. I agree with other reviewers: very honest guy who you can't help but like. Needed brake pads and rotors on both the front and rear of my car, and couldn't have imagined service better than what I received at Chapin's. After a quote of over $1,000 from the local Midas, I was referred to Andy by a friend whose experiences reflected all of the other 5-star reviews on Yelp. After a few previous trips to Midas out of convenience for brake work (which included once leaving the lot with a wheel of lug nuts that weren't even close to being hand tight), I was dreading the thought taking the car in again. I called Chapin's on a Saturday, and Andy gave me a spot-on quote over the phone that was half the price of what Midas had quoted. Three days later I dropped my car off before work, and Andy called a few hours later to let me know what the car needed. He had the work done by the time I left work and had the car waiting on the lot. I would feel comfortable recommending Chapin's to a close friend or a complete stranger. I'm confidant knowing that Andy was honest with what the car needed, and didn't charge any more than he needed to. He's earned my business for life. read more

Shout out to Andy Chapin at Chapin's Auto Service. Took my van in for an oil change and tire rotation, asked him to check the front brakes and shocks, they'd been making noise. I also wanted him to double check a situation I'd been having with my rear brakes that another shop had done. He called me, oil change & tire rotation done, front brakes don't need done yet, said the rear situation was fine and explained why. Nice guy. Not patronizing. Could have easily sold me at the least front brakes and shocks that I don't need right now. Instead, did the oil change and tires at a good price and gave me an honest assessment of another shop's work. Very honest and great experience. read more

Very good to do business with. Easy to drop off my car before work (they open at 6). Work was cheaper than any of the other four quotes i got. They didn't try to up sell me on anything or cause that fear factor most shops do. He let me buy my own bearing at parts place, saving me $25 or more, too. A friend of mine recommended Chapin's, had been going there for years and years- swore by him. I was excited to see all these great reviews and thrilled that I might have actually found a mechanic that wouldn't gouge me or rip me off. When I got there Tom told me that they work primarily on foreign cars but that he'd try to diagnose my engine issue regardless. He then drove me to a nearby restaraunt for my friend to pick me up, called me within a couple of hours to let me know he didn't have the right equipment to diagnose the problem, had even called around to see if any of the guys he trusted could take my car, left me some recommendations, and then didn't ask for a penny.
