While on the pricier side for standard auto repairs, he's well worth the extra money. Had a fuel pump give up on my 2001 Silverado pickup. Called a 9:00 a.m., dropped off at 10:30 a.m. and had a quote by 5:00 p.m. that day. The quote seemed fair enough so I authorized the work and picked up the truck at 4:00 p.m. the following day. Great service, I'd say!! The owner participated in my transaction (and the repair, I suspect) and was a pleasure to deal with. I wouldn't hesitate to go to Paynes for any level of mechanic work. read more

Payne's is hands-down the best mechanic shop that I have ever gone to! They are honest, trustworthy, timely, and cost effective. I have taken my car there 3 times now and each time I have a great experience. I can promise you when I say that I know absolutely nothing about cars. I can't even change a tire. Most of the time I would get taken advantage of for that, but not at Payne's. They are patient and will talk to you on the phone for as long as you need to make sure you understand everything that is wrong with your car. I was having minor issues with my transmission, took it to Payne's, and they called and basically said Hey your car is 10 years old and has 180k miles. It's not worth it to put in a new transmission. What other shop would do that?! Anyone else would replace the transmission and hand you a bill for $2,000. Can't recommend Payne's enough!!! read more

This place is the best. Ken gave me an honest take on my car's condition despite it leading to my not getting any work done on it, it just wasn't worth it. When I went to pick the car up it had gotten so bad that it wouldn't leave the lot and Ken was the one to offer me a ride home! Amazing, amazing service! We are new to the area, and the driver's side windshield wiper stopped working after the drive from Massachusetts. We brought in the car, they took a look-see, fixed it, and charged us nothing! We'll be bringing our Camrys back (yes, we have 2. 2006 and 1999). Went in on the recommendation of a friend and had a good experience. Our car needed a repair and we had a hard time finding a time to take it in. They were able to get the relevant part and fix it within the few hours I waited in the lobby. The service was great and everyone was friendly. We were in the market for a new car, scheduled an inspection at tuffy and got their to find the mechanic make a joke of the vehicle we were looking at (2009 dodge journey) and laugh at us I front of customers without looking at it. Left pissed off and embarrassed my girlfriends father recommend Paynes Service. We called they got us in and treated us with dignity, and explained why it wouldn't be a good investment. I had a loose wheel and had been traveling from Cleveland to Dayton. I didn't know what the problem was and had to pull over on the side of Hwy 71 because the vibration was getting stronger. I called and the owner was very kind and accommodating. They tightened the lug nuts on all four tires, problem solved. He explained how this could happen and how to prevent it, without any charge too me. I highly recommend going to them for service. read more

Selected this place based on other reviews, and based on the fact that they said they could get my car serviced today (same day). They did an oil change, put air in the tires, refilled window washing fluid, and checked everything over. My favorite thing was that on the receipt, along with listing what they did, they listed what services I would probably need in the future (i.e., in the next 25,000 miles), such as spark plugs, air filter change, etc., with estimates of about how much those things will cost so that I can budget for them. I did not ask for this but it was so helpful and nice! The people were super friendly too. I just moved here and I think I've found my go-to mechanic, on the first try no less. Woo-hoo! read more

You truly could not find a better place to have your car repaired. The service is excellent, the people are super friendly and knowledgeable, and the costs are reasonable. Everything about the transaction is pleasant and easy, and their estimates are always accurate. I trust them completely. I recently had work done that required that the console be taken apart. Apparently, a $20 bill had gotten stuck inside, and I found it waiting for me when I picked up the car. They have been in Clintonville for a long time, and their reputation is sterling. read more
