Giving this place two stars because the food is good, but they were severely understaffed. There were two waiters, and we ordered some appetizers. They got the order wrong on our wings so they gave us them complimentary and it wasn't a big deal at all. They never bussed out appetizers. My boyfriend and I both ordered the steak frites, medium rare. When his food arrived, it was medium and we told them we ordered medium rare. The waiter responded with "I only heard you say medium" and walked away. I was shocked as I saw customers coming up to ask for checks and reservations and being spoken to rudely. Also, there was NO A/C on a 90 degree day. We waited another twenty, nobody had come to bus anything, and we had to call to receive our check. I completely understand being understaffed but the attitude that came with what we requested/wanted was shocking. read more

As pretty much the only breakfast place in Roxbury, Cassie's have the market quite cornered here. Overall, the decor is adorable and the food is decent. Breakfast menu is pretty limited - we had the sausage skillet and the standard egg and meat breakfast here. Be warned, the skillet is smothered with cheese and potato - a bit too much for my personal taste. What confuses me the most is the choice to use a starchy (likely russet) potato in the breakfast dishes. This potato breaks down into grainy bits and while ideal in mash potatoes, presents a very gnarly mouthfeel when presented as home fries. Substituting for a waxy potato would make a world of difference. read more

This restaurant and its sister restaurant the Old Mill are understaffed and it shows with long waits and stressed out workers. The owners should be present at these restaurants to make sure things run smoothly and efficiently. The food was OK but the experience was horrible at both restaurants. Next time I would get food at the many delis and markets scattered around the Catskills and skip these places. read more

First, the food was very good -- you are not going to get a bad meal here! Sure, the fries could've been hotter -- maybe due to our large table order timing being a challenge, but there were no complaints on the quality or taste of our various meals. The area I would like to see the owners take some steps to improve is the service. Service is slow -- there was only one other table when we were seated, but the place was hopping for take-out orders and deliveries I believe. Service was also inattentive -- no refills were offered and no one checked back to see if the food was ok or if we needed anything. I did have to leave my seat to go ask for more napkins and a refill on a beverage. This can be easily improved -- Chappies does the important stuff right -- food is great --high quality and tasty! I will be looking for that improvement on my next trip through Roxbury! read more

We come up to Roxbury from NYC a few times a month and have stopped in Cassie's Cafe for breakfast a couple of times. It's a great place to relax, eat a homey meal, and enjoy a slower pace. Last time we went, I tried the "Glazed Eye Opener" which was a special. The poached eggs were damn near perfect! I was really impressed. And I always get the French toast as well...it reminds me of how my grandmother makes it. The coffee is pretty decent both iced and hot. The story behind this place is on the front of the menu. It's very charming. As a small business owner myself, I got very emotional when I read it. I love places like this and look for them in any town I go to. I'm glad we found Cassie's Cafe and look forward to being there again sometime very soon! read more

I made reservations for a party of 6. It was a sunday and it was busy for that time. Roxbury is a small town with limited choices. You should make reservations. We all enjoyed our food. 2 had the shrimps pizza 1 had the Soprano pizza, 2 salads with chicken and a vege sandwich. No complaints. Service was good. Alcohol choices were good. Came here for lunch and we were blown away by how amazing all the food tasted. It took a while for the food to come but it was so worth the wait! i really hate leaving a bad review seriously but this was really bad. i have worked as a server/bartender my entire life and truly never do this. i ordered a dirty martini which, some places aren't cocktail bars. totally cool. the server said she wasn't sure how to make it and would remake it if it was bad before i even tasted it. i never ever send things back but it was HEINOUS. it clearly wasn't shaken or stirred, it was warm and tasted like equal parts vodka and vermouth with no olive juice. she said she googled the recipe and it "seemed wrong"? my boyfriends budweiser was also warm. we were then left with no server to order food for probably 20 minutes. it was getting busy, which i totally understand as well, no big deal. we got another server who was very apologetic and really sweet. we ordered truffle fries with our food and got regular, no big deal. our original server came back and we told her we just hoped to not be charged extra for truffle fries but were happy with regular fries. she said "oh sorry that server is really new" and seemed annoyed. we were going to get dessert but no one checked in on us for so long we decided against it, like i said it was busy so no big deal. after we paid and almost immediately upon walking out we realized that we paid a lot more than it seemed like we owed. we went back less than 10 minutes later and were told we couldn't look at our receipt because the ticket printer was broken? even though we saw the server printing out other receipts??? (i also watched a properly made martini dropped off to another table while this was happening, so its not like this isn't a place where martinis are made) after waiting for a very long time, the owner checked in with my boyfriend and helped us resolve the issue. i looked at the receipt and my martini was rang in with titos (which i did not order) and on top of that 3 dollar upcharge another $2 upcharge that just said "martini". they also didn't take off the truffle fries upcharge which we had previously checked in to make sure we didn't receive. so just a good $10 added to our bill for straight up no reason and she wasn't even initially willing to let us look at our check so it seems like it was done on purpose. i'm giving an extra star for the owner being super helpful and the super nice "new" server and the food was GREAT. but jesus christ that was some of the worst service i've ever seen anyone give and i work at dive bars for context. the first time i have really ever considered not tipping 20% and unfortunately we still did on the off chance that they pool tips i didn't want the other server to lose money. will definitely never come back, which seems like what that lady wanted. read more

Some type of chicken is usually my go to at a restaurant, but we had just drove a couple of hours, were pretty hungry, and there weren't many other options near by. We both ordered the BLT with a cup of soup. The sandwich was really good, the French onion soup really good, but the broccoli and cheddar was a bit tart tasting. This was not a good dining experience. We arrived there fairly early during their dinner hours and multiple items from the menu we're not available. We both opted for the fusilli "pesto", which amounted to soggy vegetables swimming in butter poured over pasta with no basil or anything remotely resembling flavor. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this adorable place when we were searching for another restaurant for dinner but couldn't find it. I'm so happy we couldn't! The restaurant has a hipster look to it with the light colored wood, hanging lights, and cool plants in the window. The dim lights and table candles gave it a cozy, romantic vibe. They served us the most delicious sourdough bread I've ever had - one side was crunchy the other side doughy. We ordered the Wesley Cheese dish to start, which they forgot to bring as an appetizer and realized once our food came out. It has blueberries in it so we just ate it as a desert! So no biggie, but a woman who looked like the manager came out and apologize and continuously checked on us. She was very nice, as was our server. My boyfriend got the almond crusted Alaskan trout with hollandaise sauce and potatoes, and I got the skirt steak with chimichurri sauce. I substituted fries for grilled zucchini and squash. We were amazed by how delicious everything was! They don't serve alcohol as they don't have their liquor license yet. I'm sorry to say but can only give one star, would give zero if that option was available as they were closed on a Saturday night at 9:25p. This is a small town diner by day with a 2p closure (but what if you are delayed or get hungry after 2p? Travel to another town 6-10 miles away), restaurant by night which is good use of an established space that is already there but lacks the insight of the local people and is geared more for tourists that come up on weekends. It appears to me that you would want to appeal to the locals as they are there everyday of the week; you're bread and butter but with these prices you're locals won't be able to enjoy themselves if they are in a fixed budget. And forget about a local family of four being able to enjoy the locale as they'll be driving somewhere else where their dollar will go farther. The reason I'm giving this two stars rather than one, is because of the charming decor and nice servers. What a disappointment! It's very upsetting to spend $16 on a pasta dish, and be presented with what I received. Box pasta, pesto with no basil at all that I could detect (much less fresh-the bare minimum of a pesto), zero seasoning, and butter. Not olive oil, butter. It was like a kids buttered pasta dish with some squash added. We really wanted the veggie burger, but they were out. I had no idea there were so many vegetarians around! We were very disappointed by our experience at Cassie's Cafe. The woman who works behind the bar was rude and unwelcoming. Our friends entered shortly after we ordered and they were told that the food would take 40 minutes... even though there were several open tables. The same woman seemed frazzled and annoyed when they walked in the restaurant. They ended up leaving and going to another restaurant that welcomed them. Wasted almost 2 hours of my life waiting for food that was never going to come. By far one of the best burgers, the aioli is a perfect addition. The pizza's are also incredible, and they have nightly specials so don't forget to ask. We ate here in November 2020 while staying up the street at The Roxbury and loved it. The smoked trout was to die for! We were up in the area again so took a $35 Uber to dine there once again. What a huge disappointment. They were out of the trout. I asked for a Pinot Grigio..out. Could I have a French martini...no chambord or pineapple juice. Woman next to us asked for a cider...out. We ended up getting wings which were thin and not hot. Also got a signature pizza which was not hot and very sparse on the cheese. We are often in Roxbury because we have a place nearby. This is our go to place for breakfast. The food is fantastic. I love their soups (which they will serve at breakfast), their breakfast sandwiches are great. Because the food is so good, it can be a bit of a wait, but absolutely worth it. Outstanding.... the amazing lady at the front desk of the Roxbury hotel, called and asked if they would stay open for me, as I checked in at 755 pm... they said yes so I headed up... just had a burger and fries but DAMN!!! Cooked perfectly, plating was superb, and the fries were unseasoned, just how I like them... great portion too!!! Had a couple IPA's and headed out. Great staff, amazing craft beer selection (mostly local) and food was top notch... will visit again for sure!!!! read more
