husband's sandwich... gray man. Supposed to chew through this? Inedible

If I could do Zero stars I would. First, this is my second visit here. My daughter brought me here in May for lunch. We had Thai Food then and it was very good. Today I returned with my husband for lunch. Ordered two iced teas, two steak sandwiches ($29 ea), prepaid at counter, and it was $85 with tax and tip. We found a table and waited 30 min in a nearly empty restaurant. Let me say, I don't mind paying for great food and have come to lower my expectations post pandemic to mediocre to good being normal. This didn't even reach the mediocre threshold. We were served inedible steak sandwiches. The ribeye steak was not even cut up or ideally sliced. Had they tried slicing it they would have known it was nothing but a tough, grizzled, chunk of meat. I tried to eat it. My husband gave up sooner. I gave it about three bites each thinking it would get better and I was hungry (contributing to poor judgment in selecting the place). After chewing each bite endlessly, I was left with a piece of nasty grizzle and fat that had to be spat out into my napkin. After a few bites I had a pile of grizzle. Disgusting. We left. Under no circumstances would I recommend eating at this establishment. What a disappointment. As we were leaving I overheard the person working the counter tell a customer who wanted an egg sandwich to order, "No we can't do that, we order the egg in premade." OMG, go elsewhere.

Great food and drinks with super friendly staff. The interior is super cosy feeling with great ambiance. We had the pork soup dumplings, steak sandwich, and spaghettini with Italian sausage which were all super tasty. We also had a chai latte and a thai tea. The Thai tea wasn't as quite sweet as what I've had else where but it was still absolutely delicious! The friendly staff and the soup dumplings are definitely the highlights of this place. Definitely visit if you are in Windham :)

Nice modern coffee shop with a spacious interior and quality coffee and breakfast/lunch food options. I got the Steak Sandwich, which had ribeye steak, mushrooms, cheese, and chimichurri sauce on ciabatta bread with a side salad. The sandwich was really tasty, as the steak was very tender and cut into comfortably sized pieces. The cheese was nice and melted inside and the mushrooms were good as well. The ciabatta bread was a good level of softness and crispiness on the outside. $24.50 for this sandwich which includes ribeye steak is reasonable. The place itself is nice with wooden tables and chairs. The tall ceilings give the space a very open feel, and there is a decent amount of seating inside. You order up at the counter and they can bring you your food or call out your name when your drink/food is ready. The staff are moderately friendly and the service speed is pretty good. The place is located in the main area of town, so you will likely have to find street parking. Overall, I would highly recommend The Windham Local if you are looking for a casual yet nice breakfast/lunch spot or a morning coffee.

Couldn't eat the pad thai without risking a stroke from all the salt they put in the meal.

How this place received a 4.4 is beyond me. If I could give this place a negative 1 star I would. I seldom write a negative review but with my recent experience at this facility I will make an exception. Upon entering the establishment I wasn't sure if they were open since I was the only patron at the restaurant and I clearly see why. The waitress who served me looked like she was having a bad day and clearly showed it through the grimace on her face. She reluctantly took our order of pork soup dumplings, my wife had a shrimp pad thai and I had a stir fry veggies with steak. The soup dumplings clearly tasted as if it was bought from trader joes and heated up in a microwave, my steak stir fry was tasteless and my wife shrimp pad thai was extremely salty, it felt like they dump a bottle of table salt on the meal. The meal was vile and odious, when my wife complained about her meal being salty the waitress simply said, "deal with it, thats the way our chef makes it." Along with a slew of nasty comments she made. When I went to complain to the manager, she simply didn't care and was just as dismissive. For a meal that cost just as high as a 5star restaurant in nyc, you would at least expect good service. I can't see this business lasting through the winter. I advice you to please stay away at all cost. Eating a discarded McDonald's meal from a dumpster is more appetizing than the crap they serve here.

4.5 stars. Really nice, spacious coffee shop/café. Super fresh ingredients and a substantial food and drink menu. They even had beer/wine/brunch cocktails. The coffee was solid- they use beans from Oslo Coffee Roasters. We stayed in the area for two nights and ended up eating here for lunch as soon as we got in and then breakfast before heading home. I had the Catskill Cuban and my fiancé had the chicken portobello wrap. Food took some time to come out but was clearly freshly made to order. I don't normally go for Cuban sandwiches but tried this version because they use roasted chicken and ham instead of the traditional roasted pork and ham. The sandwich was lighter with the chicken but still had some of the salty, tangy flavors of a traditional Cuban which was perfect for me. Breakfast a couple days later did not disappoint either. I had the quiche with tomato, feta, and asparagus as well as a scone. My fiancé had the breakfast burrito which he said was filling but a little bland. This place is a no brainer whether you live in the area or are visiting. Prices were comparable to NYC coffee shop/café prices.

Great coffee spot , plus much more. Attentive staff , friendly service. Joseph's favorite.

Overcooked spaghetti and watery marinara -- don't bother ordering this, it's terrible. (Ate pasta with chopsticks as a goof.)

Communication was seamless, they helped create a custom birthday cake with flavors I requested, and the entire ordering experience was smooth and stress-free. The food was outstanding. From the bread and cinnamon rolls to the focaccia and cake, everything was fresh, delicious, and a huge hit with our group. Every item felt thoughtfully made, and it was clear why so many people rave about their bakery. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the pickup experience. I had a prepaid order of over $250 scheduled for 8:00 a.m. pickup, right when the café opened. We arrived about 15 minutes early.. because it was raining and simply hoped to wait somewhere covered until pickup time. We weren't expecting the order early or asking anyone to rush. Given the size of the order, the custom cake, and the fact that I had brought someone with me to help carry everything, we just wanted to avoid standing outside in the rain. When I knocked on the door, I could see several staff members inside. One employee looked at us and gestured toward the clock, essentially pointing out that they weren't open yet. I completely understand that we arrived early, and I respect opening hours. What bothered me was how the situation was handled. A simple "We'll be open at 8" or "Sorry, we can't let anyone in until opening" would have been perfectly reasonable. Instead, the interaction felt unnecessarily cold. Even once we were inside, the employee helping us came across as dismissive and unwelcoming. It was especially disappointing because every interaction I'd had over email leading up to the event had been so thoughtful, friendly, and accommodating. The food was exceptional, and the planning process was excellent. I just wish the same level of hospitality had carried through to the pickup experience. Had that interaction been handled with a bit more warmth, this would have easily been a 5-star review. Ratings: * Food & ambiance: 10/10 * Communication email: 10/10 * Pickup Experience: 4/10

I have no problems paying my bills and they just seemed to make this a confrontational issue for no reason!!! 2: I made my reservation though Priceline.com using my American Express card. The hotel staff called my "work number" instead of my cell number to inform me that they were going to refuse to charge my American Express card after my reservation was confirmed on Priceline.com. Luckily I called the hotel to verify my reservation and the hotel staff then demanded another card from me with no apology stating they they "do not accept American Express". Their menu is extensive and impressive; they have some all-star dishes on their permanent menu as well as a rotating daily menu with a legendary lineup of seasonal items. I really appreciate that they have dishes that are hard to come by such as lentil loaf and lasagna, and these never disappoint. The lentil loaf is unique; it is a little brick of lentils (not your traditional sliceable mush of breadcrumbs and minced veggies). It's very well seasoned and the tomato sauce on top is not overly sweet. The mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy and (very) garlicky greens make it a great meal. The lasagna is one of my favorite dishes. It's pasta-free and just made from layers of sliced zucchini and other veggies sandwiched with their delicious crumbly housemade cashew cheese. The herby tomato sauce is super flavorful. The side salad and garlic bread that accompany it are great also; an ultra comforting meal. We enjoyed the macro meal, although honestly not as much as the other dishes. The pan-seared tofu was delicious, but the arame seaweed salad was super seaweedy and salty - a bit much for me. I'm also not sure why they didn't serve it in a bowl, which would have made the rice etc. easier to eat. It seemed to be missing something - perhaps avocado, or a hunk of sweet potato. A few items at the Garden Cafe are a little perplexing, compared to how perfect most of their food is. The tempeh is just ok. It's heavily marinated in a sweet and salty sauce and kind of strange. Also disappointing that it's just a big brand tempeh rather than one of the local tempeh brands available in the area. The housemade focaccia is also bizarre. The texture made me think it was gluten-free (but it's not). Is it whole wheat?? If that's the case, awesome, but they should mention that on the menu, so you aren't taken aback when you don't get pillowy airy bread and instead get something flat and gray that could be mistaken for a biscotti. We LOVE the Garden Cafe and wish more places like this existed serving organic classic meals. We wish they would open a location in New York City, but until then, we will be making the drive!

Now first off, don't get me wrong, buying in bulk or sacrificing the quality of some ingredients to large suppliers like this is definitely a reality when running a restaurant. Even moreso in this day and age when ingredient prices are exorbitant. That said, it needs to be reflected in the price point. Pastries are arranged beautifully under cloches in the display case, but I could spot the premade, ready-to-bake spinach feta bistro (https://www.chefswarehouse.com/products/QZ119984/) or ham and cheese croissant (https://www.chefswarehouse.com/products/99971/) from a mile away. The avocado spread on the preassembled breakfast sandwiches is definitely the pulp from the 3lb bag from Chef's Warehouse too. I know that taste! All of that said, they had a few items in the case that I'm sure weren't from one of these big vendors. Which was great to see. My (yes, unsolicited!) advice would be to pare down the menu. Offer just a bit less so you can focus on the quality. Try and tap into some local producers if you can! That's one of the best things about the Hudson Valley... how much all the purveyors and markets and cafes support each other. It's clear too how much they care about the community. They're dog friendly inside. No WiFi to encourage people to chat with one another. Fine. I really want to see this place continue to thrive, it's just a bit of a bummer that a significant part of the menu including things that really should be fresh, aren't.
