If you've ever wanted to visit a coffeehouse, cafe, music venue, and Thai restaurant all rolled into a beautiful old bank building in a ski town, The Windham Local is just the place. It wasn't too busy when we arrived in middle of the afternoon, and we were warmly greeted. You place your order at the counter and then seat yourself. Water and cups are out too. I went with the Pad Thai ($27 with chicken) and also got to try some of the fried chicken ($17), a special. Prices seemed a little high but the dishes were delicious, with portions being reasonable and the Pad Thai not being overwhelmingly sweet. The fried chicken was magically crunchy outside and moist inside, with an irresistible dipping sauce not too cilantro-y. The Windham Local has a parking lot off to the side, but there was ample street parking too. And a shop proprietor later told us that The Windham Local is her place to eat in town! read more

I absolutely loved stopping here for our last breakfast in town before starting the long journey back. Coffees were delicious and strong and the breakfast burrito was truly the best breakfast burrito I think I've ever had. The space is so cute. I read on their website while planning the weekend that they are open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and have live music on the weekends. It looks like they do it all. We stopped in early and had our choice of tables. The space is big, clean and perfectly calm. Great spot for a slow breakfast. After ordering at the counter, they brought everything over to our table. I got the oatmeal bowl. Delicious and simple. However, I couldn't help but steal many many bites of the breakfast burrito. If I could do Zero stars I would. First, this is my second visit here. My daughter brought me here in May for lunch. We had Thai Food then and it was very good. Today I returned with my husband for lunch. Ordered two iced teas, two steak sandwiches ($29 ea), prepaid at counter, and it was $85 with tax and tip. We found a table and waited 30 min in a nearly empty restaurant. Let me say, I don't mind paying for great food and have come to lower my expectations post pandemic to mediocre to good being normal. This didn't even reach the mediocre threshold. We were served inedible steak sandwiches. The ribeye steak was not even cut up or ideally sliced. Had they tried slicing it they would have known it was nothing but a tough, grizzled, chunk of meat. I tried to eat it. My husband gave up sooner. I gave it about three bites each thinking it would get better and I was hungry (contributing to poor judgment in selecting the place). After chewing each bite endlessly, I was left with a piece of nasty grizzle and fat that had to be spat out into my napkin. After a few bites I had a pile of grizzle. Disgusting. We left. Under no circumstances would I recommend eating at this establishment. What a disappointment. As we were leaving I overheard the person working the counter tell a customer who wanted an egg sandwich to order, "No we can't do that, we order the egg in premade." OMG, go elsewhere. read more

The Windham Local Public House is definitely a unique spot--part coffee bar, part Thai restaurant, with a laid-back atmosphere and friendly service. It's an unexpected combo, but it has a certain charm. I stopped in for coffee and pastries, both of which were pretty good. They also had live music while I was there, which added to the ambiance, though the performance could've been better. Without out a doubt the best dinner I had on my trip was at The Windham Local. It's a great use of an old bank building, keeping the distinctive structure and adding a kitchen with a chef who clearly knows what he is doing. We did not expect Thai food from the name but let me tell you the Pad Thai was out of this world. So full of flavor. I got to pair it with a local brew, one of a few they have on tap at any given time. Dinner was so satisfying that we immediately resolved to return for breakfast. Just as good and with high quality coffee to boot. This is a perfect date spot. I will absolutely eat here again if I find myself in the area once more. read more

Great food and drinks with super friendly staff. The interior is super cosy feeling with great ambiance. We had the pork soup dumplings, steak sandwich, and spaghettini with Italian sausage which were all super tasty. We also had a chai latte and a thai tea. The Thai tea wasn't as quite sweet as what I've had else where but it was still absolutely delicious! The friendly staff and the soup dumplings are definitely the highlights of this place. Nice modern coffee shop with a spacious interior and quality coffee and breakfast/lunch food options. I got the Steak Sandwich, which had ribeye steak, mushrooms, cheese, and chimichurri sauce on ciabatta bread with a side salad. The sandwich was really tasty, as the steak was very tender and cut into comfortably sized pieces. The cheese was nice and melted inside and the mushrooms were good as well. The ciabatta bread was a good level of softness and crispiness on the outside. $24.50 for this sandwich which includes ribeye steak is reasonable. The place itself is nice with wooden tables and chairs. The tall ceilings give the space a very open feel, and there is a decent amount of seating inside. You order up at the counter and they can bring you your food or call out your name when your drink/food is ready. The staff are moderately friendly and the service speed is pretty good. The place is located in the main area of town, so you will likely have to find street parking. Overall, I would highly recommend The Windham Local if you are looking for a casual yet nice breakfast/lunch spot or a morning coffee. read more

How this place received a 4.4 is beyond me. If I could give this place a negative 1 star I would. I seldom write a negative review but with my recent experience at this facility I will make an exception. Upon entering the establishment I wasn't sure if they were open since I was the only patron at the restaurant and I clearly see why. The waitress who served me looked like she was having a bad day and clearly showed it through the grimace on her face. She reluctantly took our order of pork soup dumplings, my wife had a shrimp pad thai and I had a stir fry veggies with steak. The soup dumplings clearly tasted as if it was bought from trader joes and heated up in a microwave, my steak stir fry was tasteless and my wife shrimp pad thai was extremely salty, it felt like they dump a bottle of table salt on the meal. The meal was vile and odious, when my wife complained about her meal being salty the waitress simply said, "deal with it, thats the way our chef makes it." Along with a slew of nasty comments she made. When I went to complain to the manager, she simply didn't care and was just as dismissive. For a meal that cost just as high as a 5star restaurant in nyc, you would at least expect good service. I can't see this business lasting through the winter. I advice you to please stay away at all cost. Eating a discarded McDonald's meal from a dumpster is more appetizing than the crap they serve here. read more

4.5 stars. Really nice, spacious coffee shop/café. Super fresh ingredients and a substantial food and drink menu. They even had beer/wine/brunch cocktails. The coffee was solid- they use beans from Oslo Coffee Roasters. We stayed in the area for two nights and ended up eating here for lunch as soon as we got in and then breakfast before heading home. I had the Catskill Cuban and my fiancé had the chicken portobello wrap. Food took some time to come out but was clearly freshly made to order. I don't normally go for Cuban sandwiches but tried this version because they use roasted chicken and ham instead of the traditional roasted pork and ham. The sandwich was lighter with the chicken but still had some of the salty, tangy flavors of a traditional Cuban which was perfect for me. Breakfast a couple days later did not disappoint either. I had the quiche with tomato, feta, and asparagus as well as a scone. My fiancé had the breakfast burrito which he said was filling but a little bland. This place is a no brainer whether you live in the area or are visiting. Prices were comparable to NYC coffee shop/café prices. read more

I made a mistake: I came to the Windham Local for dinner. Please learn from my mistake and don't go here for dinner, until they get their act together. (Note: While my dinner was unforgivably awful, the breakfast sandwiches and lunch options look good in photos from other reviewers.) For dinner, my daughter wanted to try the spaghetti (pictured), while I ordered the shumai (not pictured), and we shared family style. Both dishes were incompetently executed. The spaghetti consisted of overcooked noodles and watery marinara that tasted like it came from a jar. Also, as you may be able to see in the picture accompanying this review, the bowl of pasta was about 1/2 to 1/3 full with sauce. Instead, they should have cooked the noodles al dente, then thrown the noodles and much less marinara than I got into a pan with a small amount of pasta water. From there, they should have cooked the mixture down until it was no longer watery. Cooking the pasta-sauce mixture down like this, with a small amount of pasta water, binds the sauce to the noodles to avoid the dreaded "pasta soup" consistency that, unfortunately, I experienced here. As for the shumai, it was unrecognizable. It was more like soy shrimp risotto stuffed into shumai dumpling shells. But shumai is NOT supposed to be made with rice. It's primarily ground pork, shrimp, and mushrooms with onion and spices. As best as I can tell, they subbed out the ground pork and replaced it with rice without any indication on the menu. While I suppose that could be cool in principle, the execution was flawed. Among other things, the rice was overcooked and mushy. So, apparently, this place has no concept of how to cook dry goods -- like pasta or rice -- to their proper doneness. So why rate the Windham Local two stars instead of one? Friendly folks serving up food they didn't prepare earned this place the extra star. Otherwise, it's a one-star dining experience -- at least for dinner. read more

Unfortunately not happy with this place at all. The service is something weird they take your order at the counter so it's really not a sit down restaurant it's more like a deli. It took over an hour to get our food and we saw people who came in after us getting food. They cooked our meal when they cook the meal of the eight people that came in I'm guessing because we all ordered the same thing. The back of the counter on the left is very messy with books, office material shirts in a box. I guess they don't have a real office to work out of. The bread on my sandwich was it hard as a rock. By the time I got my sandwich my drink was warm and almost gone. The manager was talking to the cook as the cook is putting ruffled in a container out of a bag with his raw hands after looking at his cell phone and we all know so phones are filthy. what can I say went there with several friends for lunch I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and a coffee. The bagel was rockhard and ice cold when it came to the table and toasted to the darkest brown you can get without burning it the cream cheese was ice cold in a little pot next to it so that it couldn't be spread on the ice cold bagel. This community-oriented cafe in Windham mountain is not to be missed when in the area. We came here for a brunch on Sunday, the ambiance is casual and one can help themselves to a table and order from the counter. The menu is on the board at the back of the counter, your order will be delivered at your table once ready. After ordering, we sat next to a window overlooking the Church and the ski slopes of the resort. We chose cheese and ham quiche, served with salad and 3 pulled pork tacos together with glasses of Cabernet Sauvignon. The dishes were freshly made delicious and served in timely fashion. I can see the reason why the neighborhood love to hang out it, it's cozy and relaxing with a good value meal and great customer service. read more

Wowow. The bacon egg and cheese bagel sandwich is probably the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. The bagel is toasted with butter and the egg is nice and fluffy.
