    We enjoyed the environment, service and food quality. The desert was really good too. We were party of Four enjoyed shrimp taco, asada taco, fish dish, the deserts (cheesecake, flan, chocolate cake) and coffee.

    Service was fine. Ambiance was nice. Quite expensive for the flavors. Guess you're really paying for the environment and service. Seems catered towards foreigners. Complimentary breads were good. Salsa that came with it was flavorful though not spicy at all. 4/5. Chapulines reminded me of Chinese fermented food. It tasted pretty good as part of a taco. 100g was definitely plenty for 4 people. 3.5/5. Sea bass al pastor had a lovely presentation and was cooked very well. Unfortunately was a little bland for me, wished there was some heat to it -- like the salsas. 3.5/5. Located on the second floor of a big hotel building.

    When you get to Chapulin, you feel like you are dining in a treehouse. That is, if your treehouse was the brainchild of a billionaire. Accompanied by warm wood tones and greenery, the restaurant exudes comfort and as our last meal our on CDMX trip, it was a good way to close the book. We started off with coffee and tea and a fresh plate of fruit. All good so far there. The fresh corn muffin was incredible to the point where you want to smash all corn muffins in a grocery store for even just existing. Like how dare they just exist when Chaoulin's corn muffin exists on the same planet? I ordered the purple potato pancake as my stomach was a little upset and I figured something bready and carby and potato-y would help pacify it. While the taste was good, it was a bit on the dry side, and there was so much powdered sugar on top. It would have been nice if the plantains had been caramelized. That would have been a real kicker. The service was great, the bathroom so clean and pretty (although... hard to find the door handles on any of it?) If you're staying at the Intercontinental, it's definitely an easy option to make to come here. We weren't but our trek still feels worth it.

    This was the last restaurant we visited during our CDMX trip. We were there after an exhausting museum of anthropology tour and a gastro lunch at Fonda Fina. So we were tired but not exactly hungry. The environment was quite beautiful. High ceilings with a wrap around glass panels that were open when we arrived but were later on closed as the sun set. So this could be a romantic place for special occasion dinner, if you are looking for one. We didn't go for the wine to make sure that we would make the early morning flight. For the meal, I just asked the server for recommendations. We were told by our Le Méridien concierge that this is a great place for taco. We tried three different kinds but after a few weeks, I could not recall what were they. I remembered that the tacos were soft and fresh. So that's it. Besides the unique setting, after a few great meals at CDMX, Chapulin could not stand out from others. Maybe it would have been different if we went there first.

    (Closer to a 3.75) The interior of the place was beautiful with a luxurious feel; high ceilings, wide open glass panels, elegant design. Service was attentive and great overall. The food for the most part was tasty, but nothing too special. We started off with some ant larva tostadas, which were my favorite dish of the meal. I'm a sucker for escamoles and these did not disappoint. The flavors from the toppings did not overwhelm the light nuttiness and buttery flavor of the escamoles. Next off, the namesake - chapulines (grasshoppers). These were served in a large bowl with a side of guac, cheese, and tortillas for the table to share. This was my first time trying grasshoppers and I found them to be just okay. They were crunchy and salty, but I can't say there was much else. Finally, for my main I had ordered the beef tongue served over an almond mole. Overall, this dish was not too memorable. I had also tried some of the fish (forgot which dish) and it was also unfortunately, forgettable. Overall, a cute date night spot if you are already in the general area, but not really worth a detour given all the other great options in Mexico City.

    Excellent fare right in the intercontinental Presidente hotel. Modern style layout inside. Very classy and service that never stopped. The prices for a group are very reasonable. All you can eat and drink on set menu way under 100 usd. I enjoyed all of the items except for the ant larvae delicacy.

    Best food, best service, best atmosphere!! Extremely friendly staff! Our servers name was Aldo and he took VERY good care of our table and gave us great recommendations! Everything we ate was excellent! 10/10 would recommend to anyone and would come back again! If you are in CDMX this place is a must try!

    Located on the second floor of the Intercontinental Presidente Hotel in Polanco, is this Mexican restaurant called Chapulin. Chapulin is the Mexican word for cricket, which is actually used in many of their dishes and as standalone platters. To get to the dining area, you walk through a wooden paneled winding corridor, which leads you to the host. The restaurant is split into a smoking and nonsmoking side divided by a glass wall. I commend them for making sure that the nonsmoking side is not penetrated by smoke from the smoking section. The dining area decor is clean, modern and furnished with different wood type chairs, tables and structures and is surrounded by glass walls that look out to what appears to be an atrium, but is really just the outside of the hotel decorated by many colorful plants. Once seated you are greeted by an array of salts that are placed on the table with an assortment of breads. One salt actually includes ants, while another includes crickets - crunchy texture included. The menu has many native entrees and as it was our first evening in Mexico we decided to (mostly) go local. We started with the Tostadas de Pulpo, which are crispy flat chips with a mountain of raw seafood and seasonings. These tostadas were great. For dinner we ordered the chicken with mole (a chocolate/chile sauce), salmon, steak and the cochinita pibil sandwich. The sandwich includes slow braised tender pork in a red sauce. The entrees came out in a timely manner and were all tasty. My sandwich was good but a part of me wished I would have ordered a more "dinner" type item and left the sandwich for lunch. For the grand finale (dessert), we ordered the Delicia de Xocolatl del Chapulin. A warm brownie with homemade strawberry ice cream. The chocolate is local and not too sweet. It paired well with the also not too sweet strawberry ice cream. It was the perfect way to end our dinner at Chapulin. All in all a great dining experience and start to lovely vacation in Mexico City. Chapulin gives you the great tastes of Mexico without having to leave your hotel.

    Their steak tacos are fire. They came with a sauce from which i understood it was made of plants, later I heard it was actually ANTS. That was an interesting surprise , the sauce is so good with the steak! The short rib is also very nice, delicious , very soft meat in a good juice. The service is fast and friendly. The restaurant has a relaxed vibe, lots of pleasant daylight coming in. love it and recommend it to anyone staying in or around el Presidente hotel.

    This place seemed nice on the surface. We started with fresh tableside guacamole which was delicious. We then ordered 2 shrimp ceviche as shareable plates for the table. When it arrived it looked and was presented in a way I had never seen. I know in Mexico shrimp ceviche is made with raw shrimp. I was initially hesitant but thought that given this was a restaurant in a well known branded hotel they know what they are doing. Three of us at dinner that night ate one piece of shrimp while the others declined. Little did I know I would go to bed and wake up a few hours later with shellfish poisoning. I now realized that this restaurant served raw shrimp that was no where near properly prepared which is visible from the grey coloring. Here I am 7 days later still dealing with the aftermath of shellfish poisoning. I also confirmed with my 2 other co-workers they too were sick. Be careful what you eat here!

I actually enjoyed my cocktail, made with fresh fruit, here more than the world renowned bar down the street. Also got salsa made tableside and an appetizer of pork taquitos (which, in this context, were tiny tacos). Both were flavor bombs. Overall, we are glad that we stopped by to get a sampling of very flavorful food from this restaurant and I'd definitely come back!

I would say some of the dishes were a bit too salty and as yummy as the drinks were mine was too sweet. The main dishes on the other hand were really delicious and unique. I will say the service was impeccable, they checked on us often and even found a charger so we could charge our phones! Very great hospitality and service.

The interior is pretty plain, with some Oaxacan art on the walls, apparently available for purchase. We were served tortilla chips with samples of 3 moles (Negro, Coloradito and I think the 3rd was Mancha Manteles) and 2 salsas. As my wife and I primarily went to Barro Negro to sample moles, it was great that we could taste them before committing to a full entree. They were all very good and very different. If you think all moles are 'a Mexican chocolate sauce,' then you'll be surprised at the different varieties. The salsas were all very good and on the spicy side. For entree, I ordered the Mole Coloradito and my wife got the Mole Negro. Both were served with a chicken leg/thigh quarter covered in a very generous pool of mole, along with a small amount of rice and beans. For me, it was the right amount of mole (a lot!) and rice and beans (a small portion of each). The Coloradito is a sweeter mole, very smooth and rich. It was excellent. The Negro is smoky, almost burnt tasting. I happened to know that the cooking process includes burning chile seeds and adding them to the mixture. To me, it was kind of ashy and not to my taste. My wife said that she really liked it and the flavor mellows as you eat more. At any rate, if you're familiar with Mole Poblano, which is also very dark, the Oaxacan black mole is a totally different dish. As it was late, we chose not to get any dessert. The service was attentive and quick, not surprising given that the restaurant we empty. We enjoyed our food very much and highly recommend Barro Negro for sampling Oaxacan moles.
