Friends seemed to enjoy their pizza and their soup, the pastrami sandwich and side salad were definitely serviceable. Something about the pastrami lacked the rich, satisfying, loaded feel of a proper one, but it was a close enough facsimile that I had no complaints. Service was pretty good as well, the vibe is a bit dated (as is much of the hotel), the kitchen was fast enough. Located inside the DoubleTree hotel. It is a classic old school Sports Bar, with a more modern refresh on the interior. (The lobby bar is more open and newer, but Characters has lots of charm). The menu is a mix of classic bar food and more elevated farm to table type food. The service is quick and friendly, and after years of coming here, I am impressed by the updates to the menu and the decor, and I will definitely come back. read more

While staying at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Denver, we opted to dine at Character's Sports Bar instead of going elsewhere. We ordered nachos and blackened salmon, but unfortunately, the nachos became soggy within 10 minutes. However, the blackened salmon was quite delicious. The service was lacking, as our server was difficult to find and only checked on us after 30-40 minutes, despite the restaurant not being very busy. It would have been preferable for the server to be more attentive to our needs. We anticipated a lively ambiance with sports being played on the TVs around the bar, given that it's a sports bar. read more

This is connected to the Doubletree in Denver, so it's super convenient, especially if you want to drink and not have to worry about an Uber. I've been here a couple times. They stop serving food at 10PM so it's convenient for evenings that you fly in late. Drinks are typical bar drinks. They do have some beer and wine options which is nice. Typical sports bar, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but the convenience is nice after a long day. read more

The staff was so accommodating. Our flight was delayed and as soon as we ordered our food, it got moved back up! Travel has been a headache lately, but our server quickly changed our order to to-go so we could get on our way quickly. I had the summer salad with chicken and it was delicious! I stayed at the hotel with my husband this summer where this little nook of a bar sat below. On our first night arriving here, after a drive from Salt Lake City through the Rockies, it was just the spot we were looking for to fill up our empty tanks. We walked into this bar where there were a half dozen raised tables and seats adjacent to a rather full and well adorned bar with sports memorabilia and signed autographs. A juke box played patrons' requests in the rear not far from a popcorn machine where one could get a fresh box for free of delicious popcorn. If sitting at the bar or on elevated seats isn't your thing, they also have normal size tables scattered throughout the rest of the space. There were even two tables that were actually old school video games with glass counter tops. One could play with a partner the classics, like Galaxy or Pac Man. When we first walked in, we were warmly greeted. We sat the high seats and glanced over a menu that had the usual pub style food. My husband asked for a beer recommendation. With a straight face, the waiter recommended Coors. Then he realized my husband was looking for something that was actually palatable. After offering a few more options, we put in our order and received our food pretty quickly. We both got burgers, his with fries and mine with onion rings. The prices were right and the food mouth watering. We liked it so much that a few nights later before we departed we went again. This time I challenged my husband to some video games while we had dessert. I had the berry with creme anglais and he had cheesecake. We couldn't have had our sweet tooth satisfied more. I am definitely delighted to have discovered this little nook in such a convenient place when the weary traveler just wants something close by. read more

Food was decent, service was a little lacking - 1. Waited 10 minutes to be noticed. 2. Another 10 for a drink menu 3. Asked them if they could put on the NBA playoff game on the TV near me. Surprised an NBA playoff game wasn't on in a sports bar, but whatevs. Took a second request for them to try to change the channel. They changed it to Fox News and then it took another ten minutes to get them to change it to the game. I think an entire quarter went by. A least I got to catch up on what Giuliani has been up to. 4. I order a cup of chili and a salad, both were decent, but nothing special. Probably took 30 minutes for them to come and about an hour after I sat down. The chili had a nice spice to it, but overall was a bad thing because I couldn't get a glass of water. 5. They brought me two salads. An easy mistake to make with a big group, but I was eating alone. Two salads? 6. When they brought the food there was no silverware, which they promptly went and got, but just a knife and fork which wasn't optimal for eating chili. 7. I ordered a glass of the Hess Shirtail Cab. They brought me house cab, which was terrible. At least it was only half the price. 8. I finished my food, the game ended and it took another 20 minutes to get a check, which gave me plenty of time to write this review. They were pretty busy so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt of maybe being understaffed, but it was a comically bad experience. read more

After checking into the Double Tree following our drive from Salt Lake City, the wife and I checked our various internet social networking sites before realizing that we really needed something to fill our tummies. Given that we really didn't want to drive anywhere, we checked the in-house options. Café Restaurant seemed nice, but we wanted something a little more edgy. Starbucks' offerings didn't excite us either, and the In-Room Dining option was just a bit too depressing. So that left the Sports Bar. There's nothing about this location that you can't find at a thousand other sports bars, but it works just the same. Burgers, Fish & Chips, and Beer are the main offerings. I was disappointed when I asked our server for a local brew and his first response was "Coors", but he did come around and suggest a more appropriate offering. Food was something you'd expect from such an establishment, fills you up but nothing particularly memorable. We did come back a couple nights later for dessert and al key hall, and it worked well enough (do like the availability of Ms. Pacman), but I'd suggest to the proprietors that they should keep an eye on sports teams coming in and eating the free popcorn. Here in Denver on business and thought I would try the sports bar for dinner. OMG....are you kidding me? And hidden gem inside my hotel! I ordered the Pork Belly Cobb Salad which the bartender said was really good. Guess what? He was right. Seriously the best Cobb salad I have ever had!! Cobb salad is my go to at most restaurants and this truly was the best!! The tomatoes actually tasted like tomatoes, the picked onions were to die for, generous portion of fresh avacado and blue cheese and the pork belly was out of this world. Great price as well!! This bar is in the Double Tree on Quebec Street. They open at 4, and the days we were there it started out pretty slow, but got a bit full at night. The first night we had a bartender named Shane, he was very nice. The next night it was a different guy, but he was ok too. Both weren't over friendly, they got there job done though, and I guess that's what matters. We ordered Mile high nachos one day, they were average. They looked beautiful, but they were cold.... even the chicken! We were the only people at the bar that day! Cheesesteak sandwiches were the next day, we actually wanted them to go. They were good, but the sandwiches (both) were put in the box upside down..... So the cheese and meat were melted to the paper in the bottom! Beer is good and price is pretty good for a hotel bar. Food is bland though and staff always seem to be overwhelmed leading to slow service.

Every time I am back in Denver I stop by. This bar is great, it's in the Doubletree hotel in Stapleton but has a neighborhood bar vibe. Bartenders are always friendly, especially Margie. Food is pretty decent as well. Can be a little pricey (hence the 4 stars), but kinda expected since it's in a hotel. read more
