A hot summer night and here we were, waiting with a massive body of other people for a table. It was crowded, every table occupied, plus there was a long table set up in front of the bar for some sort of party. It was Saturday night. We waited and reviewed the menu, which on first glance is sandwiches and burgers, but there are other more sophisticated options. Seated, we had to yell to converse with Sydney C., our server. There is a pretty good wine list for bottles and wines by the glass. We opted for their Malbec ($9). It was too hot to eat much so we had a Smother Me Burger ($17.95) which my wife enjoyed. I did the Fish and Chips ($17.95) which was a sizeable serving and was very good. French fries were so salty that I asked Sydney if I could have it replaced with normal or no sale. No problem. She snatched my plate and returned with fries that were still steaming from the fryer. We think that a repeat trip, not on a weekend, is in order to give us a better idea as to who they are and what they can produce. read more

Char Bar has been completely upgraded, from the space to the menu. The food is delicious, especially the shirmp tacos, and the service is excellent. Staff are friendly, the food comes out hot and fast, and everything ran smoothly even on a packed Sunday night. We had burger, nachos, sweet potato tots, and fried mushrooms, all were great. The outdoor seating is a major plus, very comfortable and enjoyable. They don't have a liquor license yet, but you can easily grab a bottle of wine from the nearby Hariss Teeter. Prices are reasonable, and the menu offers plenty of great choices. The Smother Me Naked Chicken and Bacon Burger are favorites. It's a perfect neighborhood spot for a casual meal with family or friends. Definitely coming back to try more. read more

After looking for a new place to watch football a friend recommended Char Bar on Carmel Road. Nice TVs and lots of them ! There isn't a bad seat in the house. The food was really delicious and the service was great! The hubs had a salmon dinner and I had a steak salad. Both were just delicious. We had a fantastic view to watch our poor Raiders lose another game so to keep our spirits up we ordered a delicious cheese cake dessert which did the trick. So I'm a little hesitant to write this review, but ultimately want to go ahead so that hopefully our takeout dining experience next time is better. My fiancé and I live super close to this restaurant and eat here either in-person or get takeout at least once every 2 weeks. We SWEAR by this restaurant and bring all our friends here when they come over or are in town. Our go-to on weekends is to get takeout from here, and unfortunately we recently had a really bad experience. My fiancé always gets either a burger or chicken tenders. Two weekends ago he got tenders and tater tots for takeout, which costs $18 when you order online, and what he got is pictured. There has never ever been this much open space on the takeout dish and we were just really disappointed. The sauces he asked for weren't given, the tenders were small and dry, and barely any tater tots given at all. For this to be our favorite local spot, which we rave about it's consistency, this was a big disappointment and we have been super hesitant to order takeout from or go in person since because we don't want to waste our money. $18 for what we received is pitiful, and unfortunately even the chicken tender that looks picked off of was completely untouched by us- meaning this is how it was served. read more

When I was seated, I was told the live music would not begin until 830. This was at 6:30 ; we ordered and then the music began , 20 minutes later, two tables away from where we were seated? We asked the waitress to please ask the manager to ask them to turn it down just a little. Didn't happen. We were unable to hear each other at all. The food was okay but then we couldn't pay our bill?? We even took the bill to the bar, but no one would get it for us. We finally paid the bill and we left. I will never EVER return. We love char bar!!! The ambiance is amazing. Seriously SUCH an upgrade from their last location. The renovation is amazing and all the decorations are beautiful. The food is amazing. The shaved Brussels salad is my go to. So filling and so good. The beer battered mushrooms as a app is amazing and the smothered chicken is so good. Everything I get is delicious and you really can't go wrong. The menu is rather pricy but it is all so good. They have a full bar as well with TONS of TV's showing sports, so fun! The service has not been good the past few times we have gone which is why I'm giving them 4 stars. We go for lunch and there are always not a lot of guests in there. It takes a while for us to be seen, then we will be sitting there for a while, needing something and haven't seen anyone for an extended period of time. Lots of time with drinks empty. I've tried to give them a second chance but we repeatedly get this experience. I would still go back though the food and ambiance are so worth it! read more

So, I'm gonna have to say no to this place. Yall need a second bartender on Saturdays because the one from yesterday was unfriendly as ever, and I've never felt more like a burden sitting at a bar. He did not say hello when I sat down. Did not ask if I'd been there before. Never checked on me while eating my food. Possibly one of the few cackling hostesses at the host stand could've helped him out instead of screaming across the restaurant if people were cut or not. Onto the food, which was decent. The breaded mushrooms were incredible, I'd recommend those. The CB sauce, which tastes like RR campfire sauce, was difficult for the bartender to describe for some reason. The burgers were mediocre, so I'm not sure why you guys are known for them. All in all a subpar place & Not a memorable experience. read more

WOW. just had the absolute worst dining experience in years. Service was terrible. Food was cold, and order was wrong. Tater tots had freezer burn (and were cold, yuck)! both tables on our sides had issues with incorrect checks. Waiter never bothered to re-fill our drinks. We had to order another glass of wine/beer from the bar. Way too expensive for US foods pre-cooked bar food. Manager was completely useless, not supporting staff when clearly our waiter was first day on the job. Do not recommend and will never step foot in this dump again. Char Bar is a wonderful family owned local chain with a few locations around the Charlotte Metro. Primarily you'll find them in suburban areas giving each place a local watering hole vibe. This location here on Carmel is my favorite. They have an abundance of TVs set up so it is a great place to watch the game. Their menu is a bit more elevated than your typical bar food, but in my opinion their mvps are their burgers and wings. Their wings are reasonably priced and have several options for flavor. My favorites were the dry rub and the hot. You can also choose to have them charred if you like your wings blackened. Just be warned that having them blackened definitely changes the flavor. I also have to highlight their Das Pretzels. It comes with three smaller pretzels as opposed to one large one. They are soft and delicious, perfectly salted and served with queso and beer mustard. Makes for an amazing game day snack. Aside from this they also have reasonably priced beers that they serve in icy cold mugs. Overall if you have one of these nearby your neighborhood I would highly recommend giving them a shot for a casual night out. read more

We have not been to Char Bar in awhile due to life circumstances, but we used to regularly go there on Monday nights. Laura is very good and makes a great drink based on our needs, but tonight, the food was suboptimal. The new Chicken dip appetizer has way too many cracker crumbs on top of it and was not good. On many occasions, we have had the chicken nachos and we have specifically gone there to have them. They were far less than what they have been in the past. They were not hot, had limited toppings, and just did not taste great. Nothing was piping hot and everything came out quickly. The food quality has gone downhill and we will not be back for sometime. We do hate this as the restaurant is close to us and we left huingry tonight. read more

What an incredible new spot for an amazing restaurant. I ate many times at char Bar 7 in their former Charlotte location and always felt that the food was such high quality but the spot felt old. Since they've moved to this new spot- the ambiance, atmosphere and style fits the exceptional food experience. The best part- it's delicious food, great service, beautiful atmosphere- all without any pretentiousness. I went with a girlfriend and our children after soccer, gymnastics and our usual Saturday chaos. When we arrived, we wanted to sit outside but the patio only accommodated groups of 2 per table. The hostesses didn't dismiss our expectations of an outdoor lunch. They contacted the manager and created a kid table for 4 and then an "adult table" for myself, my husband and my friend. The day got even better when we met the BEST server we have ever had, Chene (pronounced "Shane"). If you do eat here and he is working-request him. You WONT be dissapointed! He is incredibly personable, and all 4 kids became instant fans of their new friend. He was attentive, friendly and super on top of his game. If that guy isn't running his own restaurant (or business, enterprise etc...) in the next few years I would be shocked. He's a true gem in any business! We ended the awesome experience with a visit from the regional manager Greg. He checked in on our experience (which I love) and then gave us a really cool overview of the history of char Bar 7, as well as how incredible, kind and down to earth the ownership team is. Overall, we had a really incredible experience at this location and will 100% be repeat customers. Extra points for a create your own salad section. Can't wait to create my next one! read more

It isn't that good and no longer worth going to despite the convenient location . Food is consistently meh; I don't know where they source their meat but the steak and prime rib French dip have chewy pieces every time. This last time, my daughter had to spit hers out it was so bad, and my husband was unable to finish is $22 French dip sandwich. There are a few options that aren't bad, but really aren't that good either. Service is inconsistent; our last (and final) experience included forgetting orders (food and drinks), bringing out adult meals before kid meals with a 10 min lag in between (if you go out to eat with kids, you know how bad this is), and never checking back in to make sure everything is right, good, and refilling our drinks. Ambiance was good; loud enough that made it kid friendly, tvs for distraction, nice outdoor patio. Overall we won't be returning because the food and service is so poor. read more
