To my surprise the food was pretty good! Decided to try something new and near home to avoid heavy 5 o clock traffic. They perfectly had a Tuesday special. $36 Steak dinner for two with Steak of choice, great side salad, and choice of another side(good selections). Drink special was any flavor martini $6. Chose NY strip and Filet Of Ribeye delicious! Very tender, well seasoned, and perfectly cooked to order! No joke they gave RC a little run for their money because they were darn near perfect! Tried the warm pretzels with beer cheese as an appetizer but it was just okay. The cheese was a little on the salty side. Would probably stick to entrees. We enjoy sitting at the bar mostly. We brought our family here and the service was slow, but the food was decent.

Ordered wings, fried pickles, fish tacos, and a bean burger to go. Everything was pretty good other than the fried pickles- easily the worst I've ever had. Tasted like the days old cooking oil it was fried in. Absolutely disgusting. Also it's apparently a $1.50 charge to place a to go order. Probably won't spend $80 here again. read more

We came for 1/2 off martinis and tater tots. Maybe it's because we were the only POC in the establishment but we were at the table for 5 minutes without any service before we decided to go to the bar. Nice setup but struggled. Service was superb! Food options were limited I felt and deliver of food items was so/so. My meat dish and wife's were Luke warm at best. Side items were similar. Parking is ample but competitive with neighbor stores. Thus may need to walk further than envisioned. I would return but likely for a sport TV event with beer and burger. read more

I came in the other day it wasn't too busy and i ordered togo they said 30 mins and it took almost 50... what took long was the fries i order sweet potato waffle fries and got a very small portion... i then ordered the smokehouse burger the onions were soggy & just big cut into big pieces like they didn't take their time on it... i then got the buffalo chicken dip and it wasn't spicy it was very different from any other dips i would say... but the staff they were amazing !! read more

3rd time in a row I have asked for extra ranch with my to-go wing order, and they ignore.

We've been to Char Bar a few times and have always had an exceptional experience. We combine it with weekly grocery shopping at Publix next door. They have excellent drink specials every day and the menu offers some jazzed-up traditional pub items at reasonable prices. For instance, there are about 10 different salads you can choose from, and if none of those work for you, you can build your own. There are even more burger options. We usually order a sandwich/burger. They offer MUCH more than just your typical burger with cheese, lettuce, and tomato. Last night, I ordered the CB7 Burger, which was blue cheese cole slaw, apple wood smoked bacon, swiss cheese, and their CB7 sauce on a pretzel roll. YUM! You also get a few different options as a side (tater tots, please!). All for about $10. The burgers are always so big and flavorful, too. We usually sit indoors at a high-top near the bar, but we have ventured outdoors once. They have a nice, good-sized outdoor patio on the side of the restaurant that offers a great atmosphere and plenty of fresh air. read more

CharBar 7s (there are a few now) appear to be trying to overtake The Hickory Tavern's local pub model. They have similar, upscale sportsbar & grill atmospheres. The menus could very easily be copy/pasted from each other. The service is average, as is the experience overall. The one big differentiator I've noticed between the two places so far is, CharBar7 usually has a nice loungey, outdoor/patio type area that is pretty nice to chill in. Bottom line for me though is that the food just underdelivers. It's just okay pub food. Reading the menu, you're like - 'oh yea, that could be hella good', but then when it arrives, inevitably you wind up a bit dissapointed. I too would echo my other yelpers on the service as well, unfortunately. It's just not justifiable to be that inept, slow, and generally stand-off-ish. You literally have an opportunity to make this THE local pub for about 500 homes within a 2 mile radius. The way to do that? have a decent venue (check) and KILL IT with service. With remarkable service, people wouldn't notice the high price tags or average food. read more

Stopped here for the first time in a while to grab dinner after visiting some open houses nearby. I opted for a burger and tots, my wife got chicken tenders and house chips, and my little one got Mac N Cheese! We just got beer as the beer prices were a little steep and we were really just thirsty and dehydrated. My kids food came out first and it was just plain old Kraft mac n cheese. Then my burger and wifes tenders. my burger was cooked to order, medium, and it was perfectly warm in the middle but not a shoe. It was juicy and tasty. My wife said her tenders were moist and flavorful as well. Overall it was a good experience, we got there at the right time as it was mostly empty when we arrived, but then as we left it was almost full on a Sunday Evening. read more

They have tots! Gotta love a good tot-they have the regular white potato and sweet potato with a honey butter that is to die for. Another point in their favor is any burger you want is served on a Gluten-free bun if you need that. Generous salads, big full bar area, and my favorite Palmetto Cheese appetizer. Great food and service. We highly recommend Char Bar 7. Marcia is an awesome employee and always makes the meal more enjoyable. There is a wide variety of choice so everyone has something to choose. Deserts are delicious so save room. I think right now the most important thing is they take your safety very seriously by social distancing and wearing masks and gloves. We live across the road from the char bar. When we moved into matthews ridge, i was happy there was a bar/restaurant so close. The food is great but my wife and i also like to see variety in beers being offered. This means rotating beers so the options aren't the same every time. Because of this, we do not frequent as often we would like. So char bar, please consider keeping your taps full and rotate. Thanks read more

Just left! This place had horrible front desk hosts. We waited more than 30 minutes watching customers finish dinner & their tables cleaned but the one girl checking in & seating people wasn't seating anyone at those specific empty tables with any urgency. I wish I had her name!! She also told me the round tables at the bar area were not a part of the bar but yet I saw a couple seat themselves there AND got served?! Well, it appears that inflation has now come to CharBar and along with it a degradation in quality and portion size. I went here last night 1/3/22. There were three of us. One person had the 1/2 nachos which were the best dish of the three. My other friend had the fish and chips. The fish was horrible. They gave her two small sticks about an inch wide by 4 inches long. Breading was terrible. I suspect they were frozen and old. It was more of a lunch portion size than a dinner size for 15 dollars. I had the French dip. It tasted good but the size was dainty and the roll was straight from the supermarket. French dips are supposed to be prepared with...wait for it...French bread! Not soggy rolls bought 6 to a pack. Also 15 dollars. The fish and dip both came with fries and they were horrible. The fries were cold and mostly small bits like when you get the bottom of the fryer leftovers. Total bill with two sodas nearly $50 without tip. It's gonna be a while before I return and most likely it will be beer and wings. read more

Stopped in on Sunday for dinner and drinks. Sat in outdoor seating, service was wonderful. Waiter was attentive, all staff followed Covid protocol and quickly cleaned tables once customers finished. What a fabulous day to sit outside on the patio at Char Bar No 7. The patio is not just a patio, it has some style and a nice atmosphere. Today's weather situation made it THE place to be. This was my first experience at a Char Bar and I really enjoyed it. The server was so friendly and made great suggestions about the food. I ordered the smothered chicken that had mushrooms and onions on it, accompanied by the broccoli. I love how the broccoli was served in a small black skillet. A+ on the presentation! The chicken dish was great and the price was right, as it was a lunch special. The inside of the restaurant looked just as cozy as the outside. I don't think this is a fine dining establishment, but if you like burgers and chicken and sandwiches and tater tots and fish and chips, this might just be your place. I like the fact that you don't have to order at a counter. You have a servers taking care of you from start to finish. That is somewhat of a rarity these days. There are several Char Bars in Charlotte, and I am anxious to hit more of them. Great lunch time experience! Yippee. read more

I am going to second my sisters review! This particular Char Bar is really great. There is lots of choices for vegetarians ( they could do vegetarian tacos with their house made Black bean burger), but maybe they will if I ask. We had an excellent server the night we went her name was Jasmine. I'd say if you go- ask to sit in Jasmine's section as she was one of the best servers ever. Char Bar has great prices, and the food is fresh, pretty quick and their drinks are great. I know we will continue to have this be one of our normal places to go to eat. And I am a picky vegetarian beoutch and I love their food! Good Job Char Bar in Matthews! And awesome server Jasmine! read more
