A quick, let's go have dinner event. Nothing fancy, just a decent menu and good service. Noah took care of us this night. Nice special on a standard menu item was mine: the seared Halibut ($36). A good sized hunk of fish with a wonderful garnish of fruits lightened by a little citrus and vinegar. Excellent. Wife had a glass of wine at $15, a bit too high for us and a generous Chicken and Avocado Salad ($20). Did end up leaving my credit card there, so next day dropped by and there it was. This place is still nothing to write home about. Came here yesterday with a party of 11 others for work. As we trickled in, we were told they wouldn't seat us until 6 of us arrived. No matter that the table was reserved and ready for us. We were told that we could order drinks at the bar. Yet they weren't sure they could transfer the tab to the table whenever they decided to seat us. I ordered the short ribs, which turned out to be nothing better than a tiny portion of what seemed to be pot roast. It was ok. Nothing stellar and certainly not worth the $32 price tag. Service was spotty especially with beverages. The highlight of the evening was the appetizers. Those were pretty good. Not coming back anytime soon. Hubby and I met here after work to enjoy dinner in Ballantyne. It's December and the place looked nice decorated for Christmas. There was a large Christmas tree at the foyer and a small thin Christmas tree in the backroom where we were seated. He had the chips and salsa/ queso appetizer while waiting for me. The quantity and quality was lacking. The cheese was so runny it was like a thin soup. Neither of us liked it. I had a few chips when I showed up and was not impressed. The rest of the dinner was pretty good though. He had the chicken with potatoes and asparagus. It was tasty and a good deal and quantity for the price. The mashed potatoes were excellent. My salmon and asparagus was very good, but not filling. It needed rice. I had to steal some of hubby's potatoes to feel full after eating my own meal. Our waitress was nice. Food came out timely. I was surprised to see so many apparently single people at the bar area. It looked like folks in their 50s were hanging out trying to meet each other. Have heard a lot abt this place and was excited to finally get the chance to check them out. I walk in and was immediately greeted by a friendly bartender (who I would come to find out his name is Brad), his welcome was so warm I ended up sitting at the bar even though that wasn't my intention when I got there. I'm glad I did. He made the whole first visit worth it. His bubbly outgoing personality is exactly what you want to deal with at a bar/restaurant. I ordered the chicken soup which was so yummy! Then I got the chicken sandwich and again another yummy goodness. I heard the people beside me raving abt the martini Brad made them so I asked him what it was. It was gingerbread so I couldn't pass it up and glad I didn't. It was very delish. The place is beautifully decorated. Only reason why I knocked one star off is because their grade at 93. Excellent service. Nice ambiance but a little too loud. Food was mixed. Ceasar salad was mostly brown and wilted with so-so dressing. Croutons were tasty but a bit stale. My spouse loved the all natural chicken, mashed potatoes were excellent. The asparagas was overcooked with little flavor. The halibut was overcooked, such a shame. See above for potatoes and asparagas. We have dined here before with a better review of the food-the brisket sandwich was the best in town! We will dine here again. I started off a little worried. It was 8:30 when I arrived, and the hostess said she needed to check what time they were closing. Both the door and the website said 10, but for a moment, I felt like that late-night customer. In the end, I grabbed a seat at the bar, which offered full service and a friendly, competent bartender. He recommended the Legion Hazy IPA (excellent choice) and pointed me toward the "Fall Features" menu. The pork shank caught both his approval and my curiosity--and I'm glad it did. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly, with a lightly caramelized exterior and a tender, juicy interior. The shank rested on a little pillow of pumpkin-sage and sun-dried tomato orzo that tied it all together beautifully. And the portion? Let's just say it wasn't dinosaur-sized, but definitely hearty. Maybe we'll call it a pigosaur. Or a hogosaur. Still workshopping it. Anyway, it turned out to be a very nice dinner while traveling for work. Location/Atmosphere: Juniper is located in a nice part of Ballantyne with plenty of parking. The restaurant is pretty spacious, upscale, and inviting. Service: Our server was great and took the time to explain the entire menu, which we weren't expecting. Our server had great table management. We got our appetizer and food at a very reasonable time. Food (A+J): We shared the dip trio appetizer and WOW! We'd rate it a 10/10 (our first 10/10.) The dip trio included salsa, queso, and guacamole. Everything was insanelyyyyyyy fresh and you could tell everything was just made. Food (A): I ordered the handheld chicken sandwich and I'd rate it a 7.5/10. It was pretty good, nothing out of the ordinary but good chicken considering I'm picky with chicken. I wasn't the biggest fan of their fries. Food (J): I ordered the brisket quesadilla and I'd rate it a 9.2/10. This combination is phenomenal and the first time I had it. I see a lot of not so flattering reviews, was glad we did not get that experience. The venue is a vibe. Large space. We opted to sit at the bar and glad we did. Brad was our bar tender and he was an absolute gem. His energy, attentiveness and just overall vibe was just amazing. I always say service matters and Brad knew the assignment. The cocktails we very good. We had a range from old fashions, to cucumber refreshers, spicy margs, gin and tonics, green tea shots, THEN for my bourbon drinkers we found a unicorn, Eagle Rare 17! A bottle I'm sure I'd never afford, but for 80.00 for a one oz pour we were all in. Some may be blinking hard but my bourbon drinkers know the deal! And let me say it was worth every penny, a very great Bourbon. Now the food.. The chipotle skirt steak with mash potatoes was very good. Nice portion. The chipotle sauce was good, maybe could of been more smokey but still went great with the steak which was seasoned perfectly. The mash potatoes were literally the second best I've ever had! Fluffy, creamy and a flavor bomb! I got a side or the mexician street corn, perfect choice. After trying that, I had to try something else, which I ordered to go. I choose the smokehouse dish, where I chose brisket and smoked sausage with a side of coleslaw. I definitely did not like the coleslaw, but that is because I am more a mayo based slaw so it was totally a dislike due to preference. The brisket wasn't a wow, but was good. Went back to Juniper Grill in Ballantyne for a pre-birthday lunch. Tried the street taco appetizer - be warned they didn't ask if we wanted pork or chicken - you have to tell them. Didn't realize we could've chosen and they brought us chicken (really wanted to try the pork). There was no way I was going to waste food so we ate the chicken - wow, they were wonderful! We just scooped them up with a chip and added some queso! yummy! Decided to try the ribeye with I believe it was fried sweet potato. A little surprised that it was over salted in many areas. Cooked perfectly, great flavor and texture, but you may want to ask them to be careful with the salt and not overdo it. Tried the Chipotle Skirt Steak and replaced the mashed potatoes with asparagus. I thought that it was cooked perfectly at medium rare. For skirt steak I was pleasantly surprised by the texture and I really liked the light. I believe it's a chili cream drizzle over the top. We ordered a little cup of horseradish sauce and a separate little cup of Gorgonzola. Really enjoyed the horseradish sauce on both cuts of meat. We were too full to eat dessert at Juniper Grill, but? Happy to have found a new spot in the Ballentyne area! Came in recently with some friends and their 2 year old daughter. We were originally seated at a booth but their daughter didn't seem to enjoy it too much so they were very accommodating and moved us to a table! The place is more elevated than a typical sports bar, with some great seafood and wood grilled entrees. That being said they had plenty of TVs and looked like some people were there to watch football. We got some mimosas and for my entree I went with the beef brisket sandwich. It was very tasty with a horseradish barbecue type sauce and generous hunks of brisket. They definitely have a Cali vibe and lean into it with their seafood and salad options, so I highly recommend coming in to check out their menu. Unfortunately they do not offer a brunch menu aside from certain holidays, we were mistaken when we thought they did Sunday brunch because we saw pictures people posted from reviews of Easter and Mother's Day brunch. Typically we have an excellent dinner. Ordered a drink and asked to get plain tequila vs Serrano infused. They did not inform us the drink would be $21 vs $13.50. When I went to the bar to ask about it had to wait for the bartender to finish his conversation with a customer, which he didn't but finally the customer told him to speak to me. He informed me they didn't have any tequilas that weren't top shelf, called the manager over who just said "that's what it costs". You should inform a customer if you are going to charge that much extra for a drink. However the cole slaw was very dry/under dressed so they subbed out for the corn. I ordered the short ribs and they were not what I expected. The taste was burnt, borderline scorched. I had someone else at the table try them and they said the same. Just so happens a manager/supervisor delivered something to our table so I took the opportunity to ask about the preparation b/c the burnt taste was overwhelming. He stated they char the short ribs on the grill. Hey, different strokes for different folks but charring a piece of meat that has been slow cooked to un-toughen it, didn't land well on the plate for me. The staff was very understanding and offered a different entree. I selected the crab cakes as my friends loved them. Well these came out quickly and over cooked on top and bottom. Perhaps this was a bad night in the kitchen as it was Friday and the place was packed. However this is my 2nd visit and the only thing I've liked so far, are the cocktails. My group of six went to celebrate a birthday dinner. My salmon and asparagus was perfect. My mango habanero was tasty and beautiful. Two people at our table ordered the Parmesan broccolini and it was so hard they couldn't cut it so they sent it back and got different vegetable sides. I discreetly asked if they did anything for birthdays and they said they did ice cream with a candle and gave me the choice of vanilla or banana pudding. I played it safe and got her vanilla but they brought her the banana pudding. I didn't complain because I thought it was a freebie but later I saw we were charged for it (we didn't bother complaining). They were supposed to split up the birthday girl's bill amongst the 5 of us - but they split my bill instead. We didn't complain just to avoid dealing with it.
